It is key to manage expectations here. You would miss this place if you were not looking. It is a hidden gem, but follow all rules or you will be given a hard time. No seating yourself and no grabbing beers out of the cooler in front. You will be blacklisted. :) This place reminded me of a Seinfeld episode. You will know what I mean after you visit. The menu is simple. Prices are spot on. The food is excellent. Good portions. The place is small. The restrooms could use a little love, but again.... this is a dive. I've been here about 4 times since I've been in town and every time I've gotten delicious food. I've had a stuffed pepper, Oysters Po Boy twice and Gator bites from the Daily Special Board the first time I went. Everything has been well prepared and delicious and I've never had any tummy problems from anything. The service is boisterous and enthusiastic. There is always lots of bantering going on between the employees which makes it kind of fun to observe and listen to. The walls are lined with clever sayings, admonitions, and lots of photos of fishing that I assume are of the owner and employees. It is very small inside with only about 10 to 15 tables. I always feel welcomed and remembered when I come in. They have items as low as 9.99, which is what I usually get being on a budget, but they also have fancy or dishes in the $20 range so you can find something within your budget no matter what. Oh, and I'm from San Diego so if I give a place a thumbs up that's in the middle of Texas it's coming from a person who knows seafood. read more

So good!! It's definitely a dive, so if your wanting fancy, this is not for you, but if you want good food and cold beer, this is the place!! It is a small place with maybe 20 tables. I've had oysters all over town and this is still my go to place. My husband always has the fried fish and I usually get the fried oysters, we always get at least a dozen raw oysters. There is usually only one waitress but she also knows her stuff and does well in keeping up. Everyone is friendly, and the food has never disappointed. Wonderful food with a fun, dive-y atmosphere. BYOB is welcome since they only serve a limited selection of bottled beers, iced tea, and some canned sodas. The specials are usually wonderful. Shrimp Creole on Thursdays is my favorite but you can't go wrong with a fried shrimp dinner. They serve Blue Point oysters on the half-shell and have the best prices in town if you like oysters. So I just finished eating here and I absolutely loved it! From Canada it was my first taste of southern food. If your going to be impatient or expect a fancy dinner, this isn't your place. They had a full house on a Monday night and yes sometimes you wait a bit for service but I think it's all part of its charm and atmosphe The guy serving the whole place was absolutely fantastic and was running his butt off! Was hungry and looking online for restaurant ideas and saw this place with pictures of some of the food baskets they offer. Found the place kinda hidden away. New Years eve afternoon and this really small place is packed nonstop. I had the catfish basket and daughter had the fried oyster basket. We both enjoyed them very much. Took quite a while to get our order so not sure if this is a good place if you are in a hurry, but for fried oysters in the Texas panhandle these were dang good good. read more

Ok the food and service was great. But make sure you ask about the market price of the OYSTERS!! Because I ordered 1 dozen Oysters and 1/2 order of boiled shrimp plus one sprite in a can and the Total bill was $39.98 not including tip. The shrimp was 9.95 and the drink I guess $2 so that would make the Oysters $27.00+ This is WAY TOO HIGH for me and it might be for you. I have never paid that much for 1 dozen Oysters. Lesson learn always ask how much before ordering. read more

Loved the homemade batter on the shrimp and catfish! The hushpuppies were tasty and moist. The dive features signs saying do not sit at a dirty table at the entrance that a few people got hollarded at for not obeying. Also the sign above the horse trough of beer saying that it is not self service and that if you take one you will be charged for two was really funny. I lived in Amarillo for a little over a year, and this place was my favorite in the town. I almost want to road-trip to Amarillo just for the food - here and a few others. This place was right around the corner from my work, and people were always talking about it. Once I tried it, I was hooked and ate there once or twice a week. I'm actually not too familiar with their regular menu because they have daily specials, and those are the ones to get. My fav was definitely the fried alligator platter they had on Fridays. You could order either lunch or dinner size... and the dinner portion provided two large meals. They also had a 'Cajun bowl' on Saturday, which consisted of crab legs, shrimp, corn on the cob, hush puppies and dirty rice. All of that in a bowl (maybe I'm forgetting something) and covered with spicy seasoning. I would usually get my food to go, but eating there is an experience. Nostalgic decorations everywhere, fun to see everything. However, the place is tiny, and I wouldn't recommend dining in during lunch or dinner rush. Food quality here is great, service is good and friendly, reasonable prices. Highly recommended. read more

Here's my key test of an Amarillo restaurant: Do locals eat there? For Scott's, the answer is an easy 'Yes.' BUT Scott's is a classic example of a place where atmosphere bolsters OK food. The dining room is super small and is lined with various pictures (mainly of Scott) and Houston memorabilia. There is also a small patio dining area that is always popular--but especially so during the summer evenings when the dining room is too hot. The food, though always fresh, is just OK. Amarillo doesn't have much at all to choose from in the way of seafood, but if you've been to oyster bars in other cities (like, say, Houston) you have probably had better. read more

Be prepared for a short wait because it's a dive and just one waiter, but he got the order right and took care of everything we asked of. Fish was surprisingly great - catfish wasn't greasy, it was tender and tasty. Sat outside and enjoyed the patio, which only has 4 picnic tables with pocket knife carvings on them. Great seafood. My girlfriend and I went here for dinner recently. I hadn't been here in 10 years and she hadn't ever been so we decided to kind of do an a la carte sampler. We ordered 1/2 dozen raw oysters, a basket of fried oysters, 1/2 order of fried shrimp, fries, and slaw. Everything was great and we got out having spent about $50 before tax which is reasonable in my opinion when you're getting good seafood. The half shell oysters were great. Came with nice juicy lemons, cocktail sauce, and delicious horseradish. The fried shrimp and oysters were great as well. Sometimes it seems that they may need to change out the oil a little more frequently but that's just a small complaint. Standard fries and good slaw. I'm not much of a fan of coleslaw but it's nice to have when you're eating fried food. Definitely going to be coming back more often from now on. I will be getting a full dozen of the half shell oysters next time for sure. read more

First of all the food is great! Oysters on half shell was very fresh and good sized. Catfish and fried shrimp was very good. Now for the reason behind the bad review. The place is just freakin nasty! I mean nasty. The air literally hung heavy with grease and smoke from the fryers. The manager is just as rude as the place was nasty. My wife and I just came straight home, stripped down, threw the clothes in the washer and had to shower to get the fried smell out of our hair. Sad that this is the only "fresh" oysters in Amarillo. First of all, the food here is excellent. You really can't get better, more flavorful oysters anywhere in the area as of right now. The catfish is fried perfectly and isn't greasy--it's great! However, the service is some of the worst I've ever seen. We were some of the first people in the building upon opening. (Apparently the order you get there doesn't matter, as others behind us in line got service first.) Only one waitress was taking orders in the small, packed-out building at lunchtime. That wouldn't have bothered me so much, but the waitress had the personality of a brick. She didn't seem to care about providing good service and she never asked if I needed a refill the entire hour I was there. I tried to get her attention, but she never even returned to give us our check. We eventually had to go to her and she seemed too preoccupied to even care. Food is 5 stars. Service is 1. read more
