I decided it was finally time to give it another shot, and I'm so glad I did. First of all, the service was phenomenal. The employee who took my order ~I believe his name was Aidan~ did an amazing job. Not only did he take my order quickly and efficiently, but since I was dining in, he also brought my food out to my table, which I really appreciated. Everywhere I go I always order some kind of dirty Mac and cheese, which in this case is the chopped brisket with Mac and Cheese, even though it isn't listed on the menu as a meal. I usually know exactly what I want before I get to the register so I don't waste anyone's time, and Aidan knew exactly how to ring it up. The entire transaction took less than a minute but didn't feel rushed. The atmosphere was very relaxed on a Thursday evening. It wasn't very busy, but after this visit, I can definitely understand why people keep coming back. The food was excellent. The mac and cheese was perfectly cheesy, and the chopped brisket was moist and flavorful. To finish off the meal, I had a slice of apple crumb pie for dessert, and it was a great ending to an already fantastic experience. I'll definitely be coming back again soon perhaps to try the breakfast tacos next time. If this visit is any indication, I have high hopes for them. This has become one of my favorite experiences at a local restaurant, and I'm excited to return.

My daughter looked at the blob of congealed cheese with hard noodles contained in the solid mass and apologized for not being able to eat it. It honestly looked like something that was rescued from a cafeteria dumpster over a week ago. The potato salad was the second unappetizing blob on the plate. Mind you, they were all at room temperature. Remember that we live three minutes away. I tried to be positive and pointed out that it's all about the barbecue. Dry brisket - tough ribs and sausage that looked as if it had spoiled prior to being cooked and left out for three days before making it in to the to go containers. I wouldn't even feed this sausage to a dog and can't believe they would actually serve this. We were the only customers so it isn't as if they were in a rush and too busy to notice. Since it was so expensive and we were brought up to be polite and not waste food we all tried to eat some of the meal. I'm sorry this is so long but it seems I have plenty of time as two of our three bathrooms have been occupied for what feels like an eternity - less than two hours after picking up our $65 dinner from Smokey Mo's Leander

The sandwiches had a healthy portion of meat and were very juicy with limited fat (it had been trimmed). It was excellent - we tried two of the BBQ sauces, both were also excellent and I liked the spicy (and thicker) sauce the best - it was not too spicy. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the brisket was! Also the pickles are homemade - try them with your food! The pickles are so good that we bought a side order to take home. To sum it up, while the aesthetics of the place are nothing special, the BBQ and the service was excellent! One can order meat by the half pound, and I will do a to-go order and give that turkey a try. May 24 Update I was in the area and bought a pound each of turkey and brisket to go. Both are wonderful - they need to get containers to take out some BBQ sauce with orders - all they have are 1 ounce plastic containers that you fill yourself - it can be messy filling them up. I was excited to try it because we all know, the Hill Country has some of the best BBQ in the state. It seemed like they did more pick up orders than actual people dining in. They have quite a few locations scattered around Texas so they must be doing something right. My friend did the pick up so I can't speak on the customer service. My friend ordered a smaller family pack which was a perfect amount of food for the amount of people eating. It came with 2 pounds of up to 3 meats and 3 pints of sides. It also came with all the fixins' like bread, sauce, onion and pickles. We got brisket, sausage and pork ribs along with mac & cheese, green beans and potato salad. The meal was not bad by any means, but it's not that top tier BBQ you come to expect in Texas. It's more of the backyard cookout BBQ. I've been spoiling myself and checking out the Texas Monthly Top 50 and Michelin star spots recently and this is not that. Respectable 'que though! The brisket didn't have that delicious bark or a prominent smoke ring, but there was flavor. The ribs didn't fall off the bone and these days, everybody is talking about that tenderism. This didn't have that, but again, tasty. The sausage was probably my favorite meat. It was sliced super thing which isn't my favorite kind of slice, but it packed flavor. The sides were ok, nothing to write home about. If you're looking to satisfy a quick BBQ craving, this place can be a great choice for your local neighborhood spot. When I opened the platter I was shocked to see how little meat was in there and the quality of the meat was a bit scrappy. :( I was also disappointed to see that the pint of potato salad that I had paid for was missing a whole scoop off of the top. I'm not sure if it was because it was towards the end of the day or if the quality and service have just declined that much, but I don't think I will be ordering from smoky Mo's again, unfortunately.

We snacked on the 4 POUNDS of delicious BBQ for dinner and honestly, can't offer any criticism - it was fantastic! If you want great food at a great value - give this place a try!
