The place was so cute. The vibes are wonderful but I just wish we enjoyed the food. Neither me or my friend enjoyed our food sadly. I had nigiri and the Godzilla roll. It was over sauced honestly i had to take the eel off to finish it. But the presentation was so nice. My friend had the rainbow roll and The crab on the inside tasted weird to both of us. Not like it was bad but it just wasn't the flavor profile we liked! It tasted over done with mayo. But she said the fish on top was super good! I just don't think this place was for us. This is a really cool spot. I've been meaning to come here since I got to Frederick last week and was able to do so last night. It's on the second floor and has a really cool atmosphere. The sushi chef greeted me and was very attentive. I'm assuming he's the owner but I didn't ask him. He greeted every customer who came in, which really impressed me. The service in general was top notch. The Lemongrass Mojito was heavenly on a hot day. I'm a big fan of Sunomono and this place does a decent job. I prefer lots of vinegar dressing in mine but this place serves it more dry. However, it was good. The Keys Sushi Roll was very good. I also tried their happy hour Veggie Spring Rolls which were ok. Lazy Fish has some harder to find offerings such as Uni and Bluefin Tuna but I found the price points to be too high. $20 for 2 pieces of Uni just doesn't seem right. The sushi menu is abundant here for sure, but I feel the prices for some of their fish are higher than most places. Overall, this is a nice place with a great sushi menu and extremely good service. This is a somewhat out-of-the-way venue--since you have to go around the side of the building to enter, and then you have to go upstairs (either one or two flights of stairs). Once inside though, you will find a bustling restaurant, and although it doesn't have a lot of seating--it is cozy, and even though the tables are quite small, the food is so good that you don't even notice! My friend had sushi, and the sushi is very popular here! I had Honey Almond Shrimp, which was delicious! There is also an extensive wine and cocktail menu, and the drink sizes are ample. Other than having to walk up one or two flights of stairs, the only other critique I would have is that the restrooms are on the first floor in a hallway and are shared by another restaurant. I do think that the restrooms are accessible from outside--if someone walked into the entry hallway. Maybe a code to get into the restroom would make it seem a little safer, but this is really a minor detail for a restaurant that gets an A plus for its food!! read more

We've eaten here several times over the years and it's kinda hit or miss regarding the food quality. Sushi in Frederick has been hard to come by and everyone hopes for the best. Wegmans is pretty much the same quality, but not a dining out experience. There is just no way this is a 4 1/2 star sushi bar regardless of where it's located. It's a 3 1/2, sometimes a 4 sometimes a 3. 4 1/2 star restaurants are not inconsistent. The reason for the 2 star is that I went there last night hoping for a quick dinner nearby and at 8:40 we walked in to be rudely told that "the sign on the door is flipped to closed". The door was open, the hours say open til 9:30 on Mondays. If I owned this restaurant, I'd be irate or change my hours. Hmmm? read more

It's a little hidden on the second floor, so being there feels like you're in on a secret Sushi here was good, and presented beautifully with an added touch of a flower petal to the standard ginger and wasabi. 2 out of the 3 of my rolls were delicious (Orioles roll and Takoyaki), but the crunchy spicy scallop seemed to lack the crunch. My partner ordered the lemongrass pork loin noodle dish and enjoyed it, only wishing he had some more sauce. The real stars of our meal were the dumplings though! The chicken gyoza had a flavorful sauce (we guess apple and ponzu), but the Mandu dumplings were our favorite! Unfortunately, Lazy Fish modifies their menu on holidays. They do not do happy hour or lunch options at all. I went in wanted a bento box, which they would not offer "due to the holiday". Instead, I got the beef bulgogi noodle bowl. It was very good! The broth tasted like it was simmered for hours. It had big pieces of bulgogi, egg noodles, bean sprouts, bok choy, and kimchi. TLDR: It's a strong 3-, weak 4-star sushi / asian-fusion restaurant. We came here looking for dinner based entirely on the Yelp* reviews. It was a Saturday evening and the restaurant was busy, which was a good sign. The "welcome" could have been a little more welcoming, but I'll pass on the story to save anyone from getting into too much trouble. Anyway, we were lucky enough to get a table as only a couple were open and the service was quick and friendly to greet us at the table. It's more of an Asian Fusion restaurant and their sushi rolls and descriptions, while numerous, weren't super interesting or exciting to me... and I will usually eat pretty much any sushi or sashimi. That said, the fish was fresh and the rolls were decent but they were missing something to really say they were outstanding. We got several other regualr entrees, though, all of which were quite good. Overall, this is probably a good sushi restaurant for the Frederick area but I've been to much better in the Baltimore-Washington area. It's not inexpensive but the restaurant is clean and service was good. Bottom line, I wouldn't steer anyone away if you happen to be nearby and hungry for sushi, just go in remembering you're not in a big city, so you aren't going to get big city sushi. read more

We were on a school trip last Monday with my 9-year-old son, and since my son loves Sushi, we went to this restaurant around 5:10 PM with barely anyone there. While we were getting seated 4 other parents with their 4 kids from my son's class also entered the restaurant. We all wanted to sit together but they refused to seat more than 4 people at a table. I asked them to just add a chair to the table or join two tables, but the waitress named Kat flat out rudely refused and rest of the staff just watched. My 9-year son was unable to sit with his friends who were totally confused that why can't he sit with them. He was so heartbroken and had tears in his eyes. Will never go to this place again. We have eaten in Michelin star restaurants in NYC, Chicago, London, Paris etc. and even they have accommodated especially for kids but not this place. There are two long couches that can sit 8-10 people in a row. I asked her to put 2-3 tables together so we can all sit together, that would not have violated any fire code, but she refused to do that. Please don't give me fire code excuse, every restaurant has a fire code bit they find a solution. Food was okay, not bad, nothing to write home about. read more
