The food is really good. I've tried a lot of different things on the menu and enjoyed all of them. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately after you get seated, it becomes very hard to get the attention of anyone to even place an order. The atmosphere is relaxed, and sometimes they even have live performers, which is a nice touch. It can get pretty crowded though, so calling ahead is probably a good idea because there have been times I've gone and they were completely packed. Carryout can also be a little slow at times since the hostesses are usually busy running around, so even when the food is ready there can still be a wait. read more

Since we moved to Mount Airy a few years ago, we have visited many local restaurants. And out of all of them, we have only picked two that we now visit (the rest are just o.k.). Saltwater has became our favorite. We've been coming here for months, and they've never disappointed us. There is a wide menu selection. Portions are generous. Everything is always so fresh. I can tell they only use high-quality ingredients. We are really impressed with the quality. The presentation of some dishes is spectacular! There are three dinning rooms with plenty of seating. But service is fast, even on a busy night. One night we and our friends couldn't get comfortable, so the manager, Jonathan, personally handled our seating changing our tables 3 times to ensure we have a good dinning experience. That kind of courtesy stood out to us. So this place ticks all the boxes: great food, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and fair prices. It's rare to find a restaurant that excels in every area. We drove up from Baltimore to meet our friends in Mt Airy who wanted to introduce us to a restaurant that they enjoyed. We were very impressed with the décor of Saltwater Kitchen and Sushi. It had a quiet and serene feeling when you walked in. We were seated in a back room which was very quiet and lovely. Our server came over right away to ask for our drink order. They have quite an extensive lunch and dinner menu. We actually ordered off of both. They very kindly offer you a free soup and an appetizer to start. My husband and I had the Miso soup, which had a delightful taste. Our friends had the Clear soup, which they said was delicious. They also gave us a free appetizer that was Crab Tempura which we all shared, and it was really good. My husband ordered the lunch special of Hibachi Scallop and Shrimp that came with broccoli and fried rice. I was excited to try their lunch sushi special - "Pick two rolls for $12.00." I had a California Roll (Crabmeat, cucumber, and avocado) and a Shrimp Tempura Roll (Shrimp Tempura, cucumber and mayo) served with fresh ginger and wasabi. I was in sushi heaven. Our friends enjoyed two orders of the Crispy Shrimp Tempura Appetizers, which came with a lot of shrimp and vegetables. They also had an order of Vegetarian Spring Rolls and an order of Shrimp Fried Rice. It was a lot of food! They went home with more than enough for another meal. The food was mediocre. I understand it's an Asian fusion, but I feel like the food is made to be "palatable" to Americans who don't eat ethnic food at all. We liked the mussels, but half of them were still shut closed. The sushi was also meh. Someone in my party got a roll with mango on it, the texture of the mango was inconsistent. Some of it was a harder texture while others were soft. I got a roll that had tempura and the fried shrimp tail wasn't crunchy at all, and tasted stale/hard. The service was indifferent about us, not checking on us unless we were calling for them. They weren't particularly rude or anything though. This is a new place in Mt Airy Maryland. I will say that the food is good. I have found the service to be mediocre. We visited for the 4 or 5th time this past weekend. Our waitress had blonde hair. She didn't introduce herself so I couldn't know her name.she didn't use a pad to write down our order. We have ordered drinks. An appetizer (fried dumplings), 3 rolls, and shrimp fried rice. We never received the fried dumplings. Also they brought 2 of the 3 sushi rolls. When I spoke to the lady who delivered them she asked what was missing and had it made promptly. We really like the fried rice and it has jumbo shrimp ... 4-5 in the order. I'd actually prefer a medium size shrimp and have more in the order. Jumbo shrimp are tougher and the fact that you only get a few in and order is not favorable. Plus you can't cut them up with chopsticks. The place is very clean and they give you a free appetizer (fried crab stick in sauce) and dessert (a cheesecake with a sponge cake mixture. My husband and I came here as a couple for date night. The fried rice we ordered was really good but the sushi we ordered was ok. The toro we ordered was kind of flame grilled which made it not that great. Our server was lackluster. She mixed up our order with other orders and forgot to bring us one dish of sushi. Very spontaneous night out, got seated quick on a Thursday night. Staff was pleasant, miso soup was amazing and so were the Nachos. I am not a big fan of green onions in my sushi so just be aware of some textures in your sushi if you don't care for them either. It was our second try after ordering out our first time, and am glad we did! Solid choice. Ambiance was not terrible but I am not a fan of lights that shine right into my face , close to requiring a baseball hat! But it's just something that for me personally makes a huge impact. First time coming here and we were meeting friends and super excited because of hearing such good things. Parking was a nightmare, we basically just drove around in circles for 20 minutes. Finally got a spot, came inside and saw as soon as we walked in that they were slammed. Was told it would be about 20 minutes so we put our name in and was given a beeper. There was really nowhere to stand to wait it was so crowded and the front area is tiny and we could tell we were in the way of the staff and also other guests so we took the beeper and sat in our cars. 20 mins went on and our beeper never went off so we we took inside and met our friends. Told them we had waited and was quickly seated. The restaurant is beautiful and much bigger than you think it's going to be. We were given menus when we sat down and we were excited to eat. 30 mins went by with no further service. No hello, no waters, no plates, no nothing. We finally got the attention of a server who apologized profusely for taking so long and took our drink orders and got them out quickly and then took our food orders. We all got beer and asked for waters but we never received the waters. Typically not a big deal but things add up. After that he came back out with a complimentary appetizer which was phenomenal. Our sushi came out fairly quickly but without plates, napkins, chopsticks, silverware and we were all ready for another drink. No one ever came back so our friend went and got plates and silverware and napkins somewhere. Not sure where but he got them in 2 seconds lol The sushi was truly fantastic. Our waiter came to clear the table and we asked for another round of drinks. He brought them out quickly. Look, this place IS great. The sushi is phenomenal and the service, when we did get it, was great. Pack your patience. We went on a Friday night at 6pm. My husband and I went here for the first time last night. Omg I am so happy- we have been waiting for more restaurants like this in the Mount Airy area! Real food that's packed with FLAVOR and the presentation was gorgeous! The service was fast and attentive. The food came out quickly and everyone on staff was extremely pleasant. It really does make a difference! We ordered the pad Thai YUM and the sushi which was so good! We literally had no room for dessert lol. We loved the bench seating and lighting (was a cute vibe and we could still see our food lol). We are so excited to take our friends from out of the area here. The sea bass was very good and there were two large pieces, so i took one home. I like that they give you miso soup and a sushi appetizer, plus a small cake for desert. The service was excellent, though not all the servers speak English, which made it difficult to ask questions about certain dishes. I wish they would bring a bill to the table instead of a machine. I find this a little unelegant, not in keeping with the beauty and comfort of everything else. i'd love to show a picture but did not have my phone with me. i was lucky to get a seat on a Friday evening, as people never stopped coming in the door! read more

We tried so many different dishes within our group of 4 - seafood pancake, ribeye, geisha smile and lobster rolls, octopus skewers and more. 10/10 for overall quality of food , flavor, and seasonings. We were seated near the sushi bar and our server was amazing. It was unfortunate to hear numerous complaints from people who don't understand how a new restaurant works. Sure there will be a ramp up period and you have to set the correct expectations. If you came out hungry and demanded to be sat in the window you were provided - read the room and see all the people enjoying some great food. That would make me wait even longer. This was a terrible experience from start to finish. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because the food was excellent and the manager did try to make emends. Our visit started out with no hostess so we were waiting for 15 minutes before anyone helped us. Finally sat down and got service pretty quickly, but then our visit went down hill. If you order sushi as your meal, but someone else at your table orders an entree dont expect the food to come out together. The entree that was ordered took an hour and a half to come out. We ordered our drinks, and food from a waitress and never saw her again. We had to wave two staff members down to figure out where the entree was at. Not to mention having to ask another person for our check, and no one ever came to ring us up. Which means we had to waive another person down to check us out. There was no kids menu so a child was waiting for the entree to come out. This truly was unacceptable service. Food is great but you have to sacrifice terrible service for good food. read more
