Salmon Lover sushi

stumbled across Saltwater today looking for a place to eat lunch with friends and it did not disappoint! The rolls were very generous and reasonably priced for the quality of fish. We came on Labor Day and were one of 3 tables so our service was very quick and attentive. I look forward to coming back here to try other options on the menu.

California Roll - Shrimp Tempura Roll

We drove up from Baltimore to meet our friends in Mt Airy who wanted to introduce us to a restaurant that they enjoyed. We were very impressed with the décor of Saltwater Kitchen and Sushi. It had a quiet and serene feeling when you walked in. We were seated in a back room which was very quiet and lovely. Our server came over right away to ask for our drink order. They have quite an extensive lunch and dinner menu. We actually ordered off of both. They very kindly offer you a free soup and an appetizer to start. My husband and I had the Miso soup, which had a delightful taste. Our friends had the Clear soup, which they said was delicious. They also gave us a free appetizer that was Crab Tempura which we all shared, and it was really good. My husband ordered the lunch special of Hibachi Scallop and Shrimp that came with broccoli and fried rice. I was excited to try their lunch sushi special - "Pick two rolls for $12.00." I had a California Roll (Crabmeat, cucumber, and avocado) and a Shrimp Tempura Roll (Shrimp Tempura, cucumber and mayo) served with fresh ginger and wasabi. I was in sushi heaven. Our friends enjoyed two orders of the Crispy Shrimp Tempura Appetizers, which came with a lot of shrimp and vegetables. They also had an order of Vegetarian Spring Rolls and an order of Shrimp Fried Rice. It was a lot of food! They went home with more than enough for another meal. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunches and look forward to returning another time.

The food is good but the service has somehow gotten worse since they first opened. After waiting at the table for over 20 minutes, I had to find a waiter for menus, to place our order, and to get and pay our check. The couple sitting next to us left money on the table because their server had not come back after 30 minutes of waiting. We have tried to love this place but the lack of service is not worth it.

Nachos

Very spontaneous night out, got seated quick on a Thursday night. Staff was pleasant, miso soup was amazing and so were the Nachos. I am not a big fan of green onions in my sushi so just be aware of some textures in your sushi if you don't care for them either. It was our second try after ordering out our first time, and am glad we did! Solid choice. Ambiance was not terrible but I am not a fan of lights that shine right into my face , close to requiring a baseball hat! But it's just something that for me personally makes a huge impact. (We sat in the first room). We will come back!

was like minced tuna, mismatch, not grade a not good

Very happy excellent service Jonathan the manager is fantastic. They addressed issues we had and we are very happy and we will be going back to Saltwater.

Great vibe, excellent food and phenomenal service…read more The cute aesthetic starts before you even enter the restaurant. Fun old trunks, vintage floral fencing, and highly vibrant and decorative flowers and colors fill the area. Seating was super comfortable and quick. Everywhere in the restaurant you look, you find something unique to study while eating or waiting. Service was great, borderline perfect. Greeted at the door with a smile, seated immediately, was given enough time to view the menu and decide without being hounded or forgotten and the food came out very quickly, with good amount of time between the appetizer and entrees. Service made a good experience a great one. Food was fantastic. The Ube fries came out immediately and warm. Great mix of sweet and savory with a fun presentation. Which was a theme across all of the course, great presentation. Our entrees tasted extremely good with rich, vibrant and colorful flavors. Portions were sizable, both needing a box to go at the end. Overall great experience and would highly recommend to anyone in the area.

The service was quick, attentive, and had a great smile and relaxing demeanor. The food... YUM!…read more Fresh delightful flavors. We loved and shared everything we ordered. Whoever created the menu is a creative genius. We spent more time deciding what to order because reading the names in the menu was so fun. I've had Cry Baby Noodles before and this was by far the best that I had yet. The umami was so delightful I didn't use any hot sauce. I want the recipe for the fried fish tofu! Tofu is tough to get right in my world. This was fresh, not fishy, and had just the right amount of crisp. Rice me up did not disappoint either. I'm not a fan of Asian sausage. The cured pork served in this dish was delectable! The crispy curried rice added just the right crunch. The dish was not swimming in dressing and was a delight from start (at the restaurant) to finish (later at home). Next time we must go with more people so that we can try more of their dishes. Is was an unforgettable meal! Can't wait for son to get home for the holidays so that we can take him. PS- if you want to take a large group, they had a table set up by the window that could seat maybe 20 people.

The names of the dishes at Eat A Lao remind me of a cocktail menu designed to be fun and seductive…read more Who wouldn't want to try Sex on the Beach, a Bahama Mamma, or a Painkiller, right? Or perhaps a more gentle Tequila Sunrise. Similarly, this restaurant has come up with fun names for dishes Americans may not be familiar with. Like: Over My Dead Body. Sunset on Mekong River. Fried Me to the Moon. You get the picture. Emboldened to try new dishes, we daringly ordered Over My Dead Body. There was indeed a dead body on the plate that arrived - a whole tilapia, head and tail intact, with a pile of veg and herbs on top. The taste - meh. The poor creature had been overly deep fried, so all you could taste was batter and oil. It did have crunch, though. I preferred the dishes with familiar names. Drunken Noodles was good, with heat to match the advertised three chili peppers - take these seriously! The star of the show was the chive bites - tasty with a delicious black soy sauce. But not all the familiar dishes were good either. I definitely would not get the overly sauced Pad Thai again. In short, a mixed bag. The prices were reasonable though, and the vibe energetic. So you can still have a good time even if all the dishes do not fry you to the moon.

Flew into town for a concert and saw this at the top of the recommendations, very serendipitous!…read more The place has a great atmosphere from the moment you walk in, the decor has a unique kitsch and the music is a definite vibe as well, and that's before you meet the staff. The staff was friendly front to back, hostess, waitress, bar tender- friendly and knew the menu and had solid recommendations and knowledge of the menu. The food was great, we had rangoons for an appetizer, followed by their famous General Tso's and the Mongolian Combination, all delicious! Highly recommend this place if you're in the area! However things went downhill pretty quickly. I ordered one of their specialty cocktails, which is more expensive than most of their meals, which was just ok. The drink was pretty strong which I didn't mind but most of it was just ice and the gummy was a little stale. Overall it looked cool but didn't really justify the price. The service is really where I felt let down. The 2 friends that I came with got their food in a normal timespan but it took 20-30 minutes for me to get my food. When I asked about it (because clearly they forgot) they lied and said their kitchen was backed up and the order is being prepared. The restaurant was half empty at that point so it was a little hard to believe. Also another waiter came out 10 minutes later and said my food just started to get cooked and will be out soon. Both my friends were pretty much done with their meals by the time I got mine and I didn't get anything from the staff aside from an insincere apology and a bad excuse. For the price we paid I expected much better service and for the staff to go above and beyond when they make a mistake, which didn't happen. The food was good when it eventually did come out though so I I'll give it an extra star for that.
