Absolutely disappointed when we took off of work to have a nice little lunch date we got dressed up nicely for and drove out 45 min for. It was 12:45 pm on Monday, December 8th, and we saw the lights off and the "closed" sign with no explanation on the door. There is no messaging system stating the restaurant is closed and we made sure to check the hours on the website to ensure Bloom was open, as we know many restaurants are closed Monday or Tuesday. I immediately fell in love with the vibe of this restaurant! It's so colorful! Had amazing drinks. Loved my lychee cosmo. My friend got the Hemlock. Both were great! My friend and I tried the chor muang dumplings and the Szechuan dumplings. Chor Muang weren't really my favorite, the texture was gooey for me-- kind of gelatinous. Enjoy the Szechuan ones, however definitely not spicy. I had the Sa-Tay for my main meal which was alright. Lovely peanut sauce, the chicken had some pretty dried out pieces and they veggies are truly steamed.. no seasoning. My friend had the beef bulgogi bowl which she enjoyed. Bloom was such an unexpected treat. My friend and I were in Frederick walking around and were drawn in by the stunning colors of the restaurant. The entire inside of the restaurant has amazing style. We sat at the bar and ordered appetizers, the chive dumplings, and the veggie mini pancakes were exceptional. The ube fries were spectacular. My party of 3 arrived around an hour and a half before closing. Service: was decent. We were seated right away because it was not busy. It took them a while to take our orders. One of the staffs came to us and asked if we were ever served yet after like 10 minutes of receiving our menus. It took them a while to refill my water; I had to ask for a refill. Food came out fairly quickly. 5.5/10 Food Presentation: Everything we had was presented very beautifully. 10/10 Food Taste: *Dumpling Soup - Pretty good. Tasted homemade. 8/10 *Trio Tempura - Bland, but the tempura dipping sauce was good. I like the fried parts, nice and crunchy. 5/10 *Squid Leg Karaage - Pretty good too. Again, I like the fried part, and the squid was tender and soft. The sauce was good too. I just wished the squid had more flavor. 7/10 *Ube Fries - Very bland, but the fried part is good. Texture was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. 6/10 *Hokkaido Scallop Ceviche - Had a very pungent fish sauce smell, but the taste of everything together was alright. I like the pickled onions. There just wasn't a "wow" factor to this dish. 6/10 *Chor Muang - Strong peanut smell, texture of the dough is like mochi. Taste was very underwhelming. This is a shameless expression to preserve and prosper a local restaurant that deserves to serve this community for years to come. We have visited Bloom a handful of times now, and were stunned by how lightly patroned they were on a Friday night. I'm our opinions, Bloom should be filled on every weekend! Our first visit was on a cold, rainy Saturday afternoon. In addition to the beautiful and whimsical decor, we were stunned by the quality of the dumplings and tea. The lotus leaf shaped peanut satay is not to be missed!! Additional visits revealed the highly consistent quality of their food and drinks. I can state personally that the fully developed flavors in their ramen is an utter rarity. The bulgogi is also surprising, both in regards to its perfect tenderness and distinct lack of over-sugaring. Lastly, the quality of service is outstanding. My only concern is a lack of pacing. I prefer finishing appetizers before entrees are produced. This however does not reduce the quality of our experiences dining at Bloom, or alter my perspective that this is a business that requires all our love and support. read more

My friend and I came for dinner on a Friday night. It was surprisingly slow but we noticed that about Frederick as a whole that night. The interior is very cute and harlequin. We were greeted and seated immediately. The food was delicious and beautifully plated. We ordered the Sichuan wontons, crying tiger steak, and soft shell crab tempura bao to share. It was plenty of food. Our server was not super attentive and was kind of awkward. He didn't seem to really know the menu either. Maybe he was new. Let me start with the decor. Eclectic and whimsical. There is no theme, but something is sure to bring a smile to your face. Then there is the excellent service. They refilled my water glass without my needing to ask. They were knowledgeable, didn't rush me, and didn't try to upsell the more expensive items. We started with trio tempura. The batter was light and not greasy. There were three items. Avocado was one of them. That was a first for me, but it worked. There were two dipping sauces. One was mayonnaise based and the other a rich broth. The other two choices were a dark mushroom, and asparagus spears. Quite a good start to the meal. Roasted pork bao bun was up next. 2 to an order. The bun contained pork, pickled ginger, and sesame seed. There was a crunch from the ginger, and strong pork flavor. See a picture of it to view how beautiful it looked adorned with yellow flowers. Lastly, the supreme noodle. The noodles were in a rich brown sauce. Then you had boiled shrimp, shrimp in wontons, and shrimp balls. Yu choy greens, and cilantro added more variety to the dish. Alongside the plate was a bowl on concentrated both that cleansed the palate while eating the dish. We have been here several times and have loved each and every meal we have had. This time we had ribeye hibachi, salt and pepper prawns, classic fried rice. We stopped here for lunch on our day trip to Frederick. We got there when they opened at 11:30am on a Saturday and were the first ones. Service was fantastic we got seated immediately, order taken, and food came out fast. The cocktail I got was the Mango Stickyrice ($15) and it was so unique. You got the flavor of fresh mango with a salted coconut foam which went so well together and then you got the surprise of little mango boba pearls at the end. Then for appetizers we got the Massaman Potstickers ($12) and the Tuna Tartare Bite ($14). The potstickers were in a curry sauce that was a little sweet but so good! The Tuna Tartare Bites were also very good the tuna was super fresh and went really well with the wonton chip and the wasabi mayo. The top thing we had here was the entree that we split, the Beef Bulgogi Rice Bowl ($19). The beef was so tender and flavorful and the sauce on it was the perfect blend of sweet and savory. The runny egg on top just brought it all together. I would get this all the time if I lived closer. This place deserves so much more hype. High hopes dashed at the Asian fusion restaurant that recently opened in downtown Frederick, MD. While the staff did a great job and were helpful and friendly the food was a disappointment. But let's not forget the oddly named Bloom Asian Haus -- what's Asian about the German word for house? I could understand if it was Bloom Asian Maison for the French were all over Asia while the Germans were busy in Africa. And the crazy interior decorated is like some sort of bad dream of flowers gone wild. I've been to Asia. They do not have flowers and decoration like this. As others have said, "...you won't see anything quite like this..." . Thank goodness. The beer was cold and the water nice. Otherwise almost everything that landed on our plates was a letdown. We started with Chor Muano, Shumai, and Trio Tempura. The size was right. The temperature correct. But the oddly colored blue Chor Muano were too sweet; maybe that was peanut butter? The Shumai was a dense ball of something in a wrapper but if there was a shrimp in there I could not find it. Shumai is made with diced shrimp but this seemingly had the blender treatment; it did not end well. And no Japanese would dare call the concoction of asparagus, mushroom, and avocado anything like "tempura". While the innards were fine the coating was much too thick. Fortunately we could break off the coating to reach the good stuff inside. None of the sauces were inspired. We ordered two more Tapas items. The Spring Roll was like none other. Not in a good way. The stand out dish was the Hong Kong pork. The meat was tender and charred in just the right places. The sauce added to the dish and the side of yu choyi (sic) it was served with was cooked well. Thank goodness for something edible and the vegetable was a great addition. This dish actually did appear to be done well and could have been served in Asia. In it's size, it was a main course not a Tapas. Total was $82 with two beers and a $20 tip. We will not be back. read more

I ordered the Mushroom Miso Soup and the Roti Curry. Most miso soups I have had around town have a pinch of scallions, teeny weeny tofu cubes, maybe two pieces of small mushrooms in miso broth. At Bloom, medium size tofu, A Lot of mixed mushrooms, looks mainly filled with shiitakes, and more seaweed than most. No skimping. The Roti Curry was presented in a creative way. The triangular flatbreads were tasty and had a subtle floral flavor...a bit more oily than a typical roti, more like a "paratha" in the sense that the oil gives it more of a flaky texture. The curry tasted like a traditional "safe" curry, flavorful and mild in spice level. We were the first ones there at opening time, so the service was within 15 minutes, and had no problem getting prompt refills of water. The whimsical decoration is definitely different, however, it resonates with the name of the establishment. My grandkids are going to enjoy this place. read more

The Honey Roast Pork Bao was only one serving, but it was packed with the most delicious pork. The Seared Salmon was a hit for me, the savory sauce and the perfectly cooked salmon and jasmine rice had me craving more despite being full. My sister had the Hibachi steak and while having a slightly smaller stomach than me, she savored each bite and took the rest home for a delicious leftover treat. To end our night we had some pretty amazing desserts. The Matcha crepe cake was delicious, slightly on the dry side and my ice cream was kind of freezer burnt but nonetheless I wiped my plate clean. My sister had the yuzu cheese cake and shocked me for a bit because she is not a dessert person. However, both of us left with empty plates than night. I love American style Asian cuisines and Bloom Asian Haus is a great addition to my roster. The restaurant is so beautiful and well designed. My friend and I were so surprised how nice it was and why it wasn't busier on a Saturday afternoon. Our server was super sweet and kept checking up on us. My friend and I both got the sweet and sour chicken. It was less saucy and "fast foody" than other versions, but I liked it! The Food: Appetizers were good for us, we had the Fried Taro and the Walnut Shrimp. The shrimp were big and delicious. The taro was crispy and the peanut sauce was delicious. The shrimp were also beautifully plated. Unfortunately, the main courses were very, very bad. 3 of us ordered the Chicken and Croffle. Every single one of our waffles were raw. Not by a little, they were raw goup-y dough. The berry mascarpone under the waffles was gritty. The chicken was just okay. The side salad was the best part of the dish, fresh and pretty. The Drinks: Bloom does not have a cocktail menu, though they have a full bar set up. This may change as they are fairly new. We ordered 3 bloody mary's and a mimosa. The drinks were so-so and ended up being quite pricey (we didn't know the price ahead of time because there was no menu). The verdict, we spent $100 on 2 main courses, 1 appetizer, and 2 drinks. We left disappointed, and hungry as we didn't eat the majority of our mains. ***we did not send the food back as it took a very long time to receive our food to begin with, and none of our food came out together.
