I honestly don't know how they do it. The sushi chefs at Kyo are performing literal wizardry back there. Every bite is consistently insane. At one point my mouth was doing things I probably shouldn't describe in a public review. We did order for delivery, which disappointed us because it never showed up. BUT, i called the restaurant and it was ready for pick up. They quickly resolved that i had paid online and i was good to go at pick up. Easy peasy and with a smile. Okay, let's talk food! I will start with, the fish is impossibly fresh, the rolls are balanced perfectly, and every single piece feels like it was crafted with obsessive attention. No throwaway bites. No filler. Just straight-up sushi perfection. Here's the real kicker: we live part-time in Kauai, a place that technically has a slight advantage when it comes to seafood given its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, and Kyo still wins our hearts when it comes to sushi. That's saying something. So if you're looking for perfection in every bite, grab your person and get your ass over to Kyo. You will not be disappointed. Woooooow this is the best salmon belly i ever had in my entire life. I moved to the area from los angeles and they have some amazing sushi over there but let me tell you this is UP THERE. It's a quaint spot and very unassuming but seriously please do yourself a favor and go to kyo sushi. Best sushi in the area and ive truly tried them all. Prices are also extremely unbeatable. I have never tried Susui TarTar, and honestly, I don't know why. I suspect I was a little afraid. But last night, we wandered, and so did my stomach. The result was that I finally had Tuna Tartare. Um, why had I waited? Phenominal Really great food overall. Good Sushi is a fantastic experience. I enjoyed the Tuna Tartare. We also got Gyoza, and that was also fantastic. My wife and I dined at Kyo Sushi last Friday to celebrate my birthday. Our longtime go-to spot for sushi used to be Yoyogi in Kentlands, but since they no longer offer dine-in, we've been on the lookout for a new favorite. For me, sushi just isn't the same as takeout. It's an experience best enjoyed fresh at the table. We started with the takoyaki for an appetizer, which came out hot and crisp with a nice savory flavor. For my main, I went with a sashimi platter, paired with a cold beer. It was fresh, clean, and exactly what I was hoping for. I ordered a sushi-forward meal for carry out, which was ready in about 30min and handed to me as soon as I entered. While I didn't dine in, the staff was welcoming and friendly for the brief minute that was inside. I did find that I needed to order several vegetarian rolls to build a meal given the 6-piece side. he vegetable roll had a great combination of elements for the filling--avocado, cucumber, asparagus and pickled radish. The sushi tasted fresh overall, but comparatively, not the freshest that I've had. However today we ordered and while waiting door dash texts us and said that kyo lost our order. When I called kyo they said that door dash was angry because they had to wait and then text us that kyo lost our order. Door dash is absolutely a bunch of instigators and trouble stirrers. ** If you go to Kyo only use cash, and never trust them with your card. Only written a few reviews on Yelp in the last couple years, mainly because I understand every place has good and bad nights. However the treatment at Kyo Sushi last Friday was so bad I will be dealing with it for days to come while my bank sorts out all of the attempted charges. It seems in general the quality of service has declined at several local restaurants over the last few months, but Kyo went above, and beyond in bad service. The food was decent, but a problem happened with the payment. Apparently internet stopped working when they swiped my card, and looks like they tried to swipe it several times. Anyways enough for my bank to block the credit card due to suspected fraud. So the server comes back to the table, and tells me to pay in cash. Ok, so go to ATM, and find out my card has been blocked. She asks me for another card, and says if they overcharged the first one not to worry I can come back another day for a refund. At this point I don't want to give them another card to experiment with so they pass me a Venmo app for the nail salon next door. I decide to use my Cash App to try and pay it, but not surprisingly Cash App declines, and suspects fraud. So now I have two cards blocked, and the manager is looking at me on how am I going to fix this, and get her the money owed. Asks if any one in my party wants to give up their card to see if it works. They do not want to let us leave, but obviously the card reader and Venmo is not working. I finally grab the receipt, drive down to the bank pull cash out with my wife's card, and pay them. However my bank says there is now a hold on my account for at least 72 hours, and a new card will have to be issued to me because they suspect fraudulent charges. The bank recommended transferring all money out of the account until further notice. This could have been avoided had the restaurant not tried to swipe my card 10 times, and accepted the internet was down on their part. The worst part is this happened to several customers, but at no time did the restaurant tell new customers they could only accept cash. Have been to Kyo probably 30-40 times in the last two years since we moved to Urbana. We have been there enough the workers know our faces, but could not trust us to drive to a bank and pull money out to pay them. I really Kyo before, but will never return now. Thankfully Urbana is getting a new Sushi restaurant near Giant soon. read more

I am extremely picky about the freshness of my sushi and this did not disappoint. Me and my daughters finished it all before I even took any pictures. We had the Alaska roll, red snapper, California roll, and shrimp tempura. I also ordered the white tuna tempura, but they forgot to put it in my bag. The sushi was so good, that I wasn't too upset that it was missing. It was all extremely fresh and I must have salmon that melts in your mouth and it did just that. Grabbed takeout from here and was trying it for the first time! This sushi place is a hidden gem in Urbana. I enjoyed an order of Haru Maki (vegetarian spring roll) to start which was delicious and crispy! I also had the miso soup which was pretty typical but came nice and piping hot. For sushi I had the sweet potato roll and crunch roll. They were both a good portion size with a nice flavor and texture! The crunch roll--made of shrimp tempura, avocado and eel sauce-- was presented nicely even in a takeout box! My only criticism is that the crunch tobiko topping the roll was a bit stale tasting. I read other reviews that praised their soy sauce and they were right! There is something different about Kyo's soy sauce... it's not just your typical soy sauce it's a little bit more tangy! Yum! It's so good! The order and pick up process was absolutely seamless! I was able to easily order online and they text you when it's ready and as soon as you walk in the door they hand you your order--super convenient! The part that irked me during the whole experience was that there was no music and I think they we're eating dinner. So we kind of had a weird experience overall. How's the food? The sashimi was well prepared. Nice thickness and bounce without the fishy smell. That's a good thing so I felt confident that it was prepared well and that the ingredients they used were fresh. I just wished there was more to this place. It is rather small and not a lot of options nearby. For a place in a new section, I would be curious if they can get creative and make something that would make me want to go back. Was near Sugarloaf Mountain Sunday evening. My gf loves sushi, so I did a search and found Kit Sushi about 15 minutes away. I would highly recommend the restaurant. We knew we were in the right place when all the conversations between the staff were in Japanese. They have a very large menu. My gf ordered the Spicy Miki Combo. While it is an upcharge, she was allowed to substitute brown rice for white rice in the roll. I am not a fan of sushi, so I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken. They are definitely practicing social distancing by having a plexiglass at the front entrance to pay. I found this place on Yelp while staying at Frederick overnight before visiting a customer site the next day. The restaurant is located in a residential area, I almost drove past it on a rainy night if not alerted by GPS that I had reach my destination. I ordered the Sashimi Deluxe, which is a chef's choice on the fish selection. It comes with either soup or salad. I chose Miso soup and it was nothing special. Need a little bit more tofu cubes though. The sashimi presentation was awesome (see photo). It came with Ahi Tuna, Super White Tuna, Salmon, Res Snapper and Yellow Fin. They tasted really fresh with great texture. It was enjoyable having this feast. I had to ask the chef for wasabi and ginger since I finished them quickly half way through the meal. We used to eat at Lazy Fish almost weekly, but when Covid hit, we ended up giving Kyo Sushi another try (when it first opened we didn't overly like it). Needless to say, we don't make the trip into downtown anymore to eat at Lazy Fish, or do takeout. Kyo Sushi is much better in my opinion than LF. The fish tastes better, and the rice that is used, along with the quality of items like Avocado seems to be much higher. We do takeout here almost every week, and love it! read more

Checked out this new place on a Saturday afternoon, and it was pretty good! But first, logistics. The place is located pretty close off the highway, and there's street parking or parking lot in the back. There are a few places you can hit up around the area (notably ice cream place!) with outdoor hang out area. Plenty of parking. Restaurant itself (and other stores around it) look like they were houses remodelled for commercial use. It's not a huge place but we were comfortably seated. The interior looked pretty new, and everything looked clean. Service was pretty quick, and our server came soon after we were seated. She was friendly and the place was quite inviting. Their menu was pretty large, and offered items like donburi, poke bowls, fried rice, and a few other Asian items (ex general tso's). I was happily surprised that their lunch special was still available on Saturdays, and got their three roll special. It came with miso soup and salad, and I got the Alaska roll, eel avocado roll, and tuna avocado roll. The miso soup tasted watered down, which was unfortunate because I love miso soup. The salad was ok, but instead of using a ginger carrot dressing most Japanese places use, it tasted more like thousand island. The rolls were pretty good, and tasted fresh. The ginger that came with it didn't seem too fresh, and I was surprised to see a little maraschino cherry. read more

On a rainy day, we went to our local Sushi place and what a surprise! Setting was clean and light. Service was excellent without being intrusive. I was really impressed with the quality of the food we ordered. First, Ocean Roll was superb with wonderful taste and the rice texture was perfect. Bento Box with Chicken Teriyaki was amazing. It was very flavorful and Gyoza that came with the lunch was excellent as well. I had no idea this place served such high quality food. My compliment to the Chef!
