We were happy to give this spot a try (recommendations are always the best) but our impression at the end was it was a one and done kind of visit for us. The sushi was amazing!! Incredibly fresh and still warm. The portions were huge for incredible prices and it made it such a luxurious and pleasant experience. I was very excited being able to order the king salmon and salmon belly as well. The gyoza I got were also great! Unfortunately, the chicken katsu was only okay. Tokyo (Fire) Sushi is 1) local, 2) easily accessible, and 3) way better than Katana. We do take out from this restaurant at least 2 - 3 times a month - and have since 2020. The sushi is the freshest - from the fish to the avocados. If you ask for extra tofu in the miso soup, they are happy to oblige. Also, the orders are filled quickly and efficiently with a customer service attitude - and the sushi is amazing. read more

Yum yum yum! I looked on Yelp as I was craving Japanese & found this place. I ordered the poke bowl with eel, salmon, cream cheese, shrimp & absolutely everything I love about Japanese food!!! It was delicious! My hubby ordered 3 diff types of rolls: Damascus roll & something else & Summer roll to go! It was all very good. His rolls weren't that big, but it was good! We decided to try this restaurant again and found that customer service had not improved. After being told to take a seat we sat there for at least 10 minutes without anyone stopping by. This is a gem of a restaurant tucked away across the Safeway parking lot in Damascus. The sushi selection is impressive, and we've repeatedly tried half a dozen different rolls and they've been delicious every time. Better than any sushi I've had in DC, and at much better prices. Sat at the sushi bar and went with my standard chirashi w/ no white tuna. Why no white tuna might you ask? Just google it and especially what happens if you have more than 6 ounces in your system. No bueno. Miso Soup had a great flavor, enough content and didn't need any soy added. I like the way they chop the kelp up so it's easy to get on the spoon. Salad was very good and just the right amount of dressing. It wasn't swimming!!! Chirashi had a nice presentation and nice size portions of fish. Some but not all of the fish was a little warm for my liking. Restaurant was clean and smelled good. Not very busy for a Monday at 12:30pm but I saw a bunch of carry out going out which was a good sign. Restroom was clean and smelled good...at least until I was done with it. ‍ Overall a good stop. I love sushi and am so glad I have a new go-to spot for it (less expensive than my original go-to spot in Mt Airy). Been here only twice...both times with my sister and sleeping 2 month old daughter. Given that they were weekday afternoons we were the only ones in the restaurant however people did come in to carry out. The sushi is reasonably priced but still very fresh and good. Loved the decor, although I felt kinda weird walking through a woman's legs on the way in (there's a cloth with a woman's pattern), but the atmosphere was cute. I ordered a chicken teriyaki yakisoba and my friend got the sweet potato roll and volcano roll. We shared and I think both were delicious. The volcano roll was delicious in only the way seasoned mayo can be (yum). Sweet potato roll was new for me, and the proportion of fried sweet potato was perfect, with not an overwhelming layer of rice wrapped around. Yakisoba was so so good. Noodles were a bit softer than I would have liked but the flavor hit the spot. Chicken was grilled perfectly, but what really made it was their sauce. Prices are not overwhelming. My experience couldn't have been worse. After sitting at a table for over ten minutes, a waitress finally came and took our drink order, but did not bring us menus. A few minutes later, we saw her put her purse on and walk out the door. We never received our drinks, and even though we made eye contact with two other employees, nobody ever waited on us. We've been here many times in the past and always ordered the chicken fried rice as well, it was delicious but they either changed their recipe or another cook was working that night because the fried rice was no where as good as it once was. We were very satisfied with our dishes. Presentation was spot on. Open decor, light as expected. Not sure about the curtains on the windows but.... The food was very good, today, the service was not good. Very Disappointed. When there on 6/16 around 5pm. They were not busy. Actually, we were the only patrons there, a 3-person party. When our food arrived, we remembered to ask for two orders of Damascus rolls, for take-out. That way, when we were done dining-in, our take-out order would be ready. After finishing our food, the server gave us our check, but not our take-out. Finally, we had to summons our server and ask her where our take-out food was. She did not say anything, not even an apology. We had to wait an extra 15-20 minutes for our take-out. Customer service need to be better. read more

Best food in Damascus. Period. This place is about a year old, I think, and I just ate there for the first time last night. We ordered a chicken teriyaki entree and shrimp hibachi entree as well as a crunchy roll and a Damascus roll. Let me tell you that every ingredient in all of the dishes were fresh and flavorful.
