This place is seriously so cute! We stopped by for dessert and there were so many delicious options to choose from. I got the Mango Meringue and my husband went with the New York Cheesecake. Both were sooo good! I loved that neither dessert was overly sweet, they had just the right amount of sweetness and were light enough that you could finish them without feeling like you were in a sugar coma. The café itself is adorable and has such a cozy French-inspired vibe. It's the perfect spot to catch up with friends, go on a cute date, or just relax with a coffee or tea while enjoying a pastry (or something savory!). The service was amazing too.. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and quick. Overall, such a great experience. 10/10! You'll definitely be seeing more of me soon. Thanks for the yummy treats!
Wow, this place definitely earned a review. This was my first time trying this bakery/cafe. I ordered the red velvet cake, crème brûlée, and strawberry cream parfait, and all three were phenomenal. The cake was moist and fluffy, the crème brûlée was rich and creamy with the perfect caramelized top, and the parfait was fresh, light, and absolutely delicious. My only tiny note is that I would have loved a few more raspberries on the crème brûlée. What made this even better for me personally was learning that this local small business is Afghan-owned. As a fellow Afghan, I love supporting our community. But regardless, the desserts were pretty close to perfection. I look forward to going in and trying their coffee and chai drinks next. I'll definitely be a regular. Highly recommend!
This cafe is super nice inside. Fairly quiet and nice vibes. Only one girl working so she has to take both orders and make the drinks. Ordered iced banana bread latte and carrot walnut cake. I loved the cream cheese frosting. The cake was crumbly and moist. Just the way I like it! The latte was sweet, but the taste of banana was prominent which I liked. Would come back to try other things as well as get the same things because I recommend! I definitely recommend trying this place out.
This place is currently Layer Cake Bakery, although they are going through a rebranding and will be called Cafe Mosaic soon. They have a fresh baked goods case and I ordered a Cinnamon Morning Bun $4.25, a Brookie (brownie/cookie), a Pistachio Latte, and Earl Grey Matcha. The morning bun was big and fresh, although the texture was not like other morning buns I have had. It was just soft and bready and did not have enough cinnamon flavor. The brookie was individually wrapped and very fresh. It was a big piece and tasted homemade. I would get that again. As for the pistachio latte and earl grey matcha, both of these drinks were quite disappointing. There was not a lot of coffee in the latte and the pistachio flavor was very artificial. The earl grey matcha was one of the worst drinks I have had. I could barely taste any earl grey or matcha and there was too much cream and ice in the drink. Service was okay although there was only one worker in the morning on the weekend I went, and the drinks took a long time to come out. I will only come back here for their baked goods. Be sure to avoid their drinks.
Honestly, everything we got was good but here's a mini rundown anyway What we got: * Earl Gray Cheesecake- Great flavor, the texture is unlike a typical cheesecake, but it was yummy nonetheless. * Caramel Chocolate Tart- A delicious combo of the two flavors- the base of the tart was better than most others! * Biscoff Tart- I love biscoff so this was especially good!! * Cream Roll- A popular Afghan dessert, like a pastry with cream and some more flavor. * Rice Pudding- We have something similar as more of a South Asian dessert, so it was nice to see in their bakery! * Bolani- Afghan flatbread with potato. It was a delicious snack! The sauce on the side made it even better. * Tiramisu- Classic * Afghan Qaimaq Chai- Soothing, creamy, sweet, PINK * Creme Brulee Latte- Sooooo delicious!! It's pretty sweet, but we loved it was so yummy They're open until 10pm on the weekend- great for a chai night, or to grab some dessert! It's probably one of the later dessert chai spots in Irvine The ambiance was really nice! The way it's decorated inside is so cute and almost elevated. There's a decent amount of seating, and even more seating outside. The service was good! Those working were very nice.
This bakery is located inside a strip mall near Laventina's. There's tons of free parking here. We went here on a whim after a movie, about an hour before closing time. Inside is very clean and chic. The service was wonderful, the woman at the register was very helpful and answered our questions. We wanted to get some caffeine, so we ordered Americanos and picked up some desserts to try as well. The Americano was very smooth, probably one of my favorite places to order one. Sometimes, I go to places and it tastes burnt and super acidic but not here. The gluten free and brookie were a little dry for my taste but the Afghan pistachio cake type of goodie was really good. I would definitely go back for coffee or espresso here.
Came in on valentine's and thought the sweets were so beautiful, though I didn't actually order any. Was disappointed to see they were out of matcha so opted for a vanilla latte and the creme brulee latte. Both weren't bad, just not anything to write home about. They offer samples under a cake dome on the table across the register which is nice.
I love when I find a new cookie flavor to obsess over. This week's flavor is called ab-e dandan, which apparently means "melt in your mouth" in Farsi. It's a delicate, buttery cardamom cookie with crushed pistachios. It's absolutely lovely! It's the perfect cookie if you're looking for something not overly sweet. There are lots of other options at this bakery too, cookies, cupcakes, pies, and a full cafe. I got the apple cider chai and it was delish. Staff were friendly and it was nice and quiet in here too.
I hate to review this place three stars but genuinely shocked by the laziness shown writing congratulations on the cake we purchased. It's not centered, it's slanted, and it's literally partially covered by a strawberry because of how uncentered it is. The cake was very good, but this kind of effort really reflects poorly to me. I ordered online, so I didn't have direct interaction with the staff except for picking it up. The price is too expensive for a cake like this in my opinion.

We stopped in on a Saturday after having dinner at a restaurant in the same plaza. The hours posted outside indicated they closed hours before, but they were still open. The inside is brightly lit and thy have a few places to sit. The person working was very nice and answered all our questions (we had a lot). We ended up getting a Chai and a few pastries. Everything was pretty good!
Under new management for the past 3 months now. Super friendly staff and I like coming here because the store is very clean and they make their pastries daily. My favorite ones are the chocolate croissant, almond croissant, and the ultimate is the chocolate almond croissant. So flaky and delicious. Still good even 3 days after. They also have a few new Afghan cookies and cakes so those are quite tasty. Now they do custom in house cake so that's good to know. Will be back here soon!
This was the pumpkin qaimaq latte. She grabbed the regular milk at first and then realized I had asked for almond. The espresso machine wasn't used and she came out from the back and stated my drink was done. I took a sip in my car and drank something chunky. Opened the lid and there's the film you get when you warm up milk in a microwave. I wouldn't go back for their drinks.

Cake itself was really good minus the frosting. Did not care for the frosting at all... had no flavor just taste butter. Another disappointment was as you slice into the cake it was literally falling apart. Left it about 45 mins prior to serving as suggested. See pic. . read more
My friend got my birthday cake here and it was so scrumptious. A very simple and elegant naked cake. It was vanilla and Bavarian cream, the cake was so light and fluffy and not dense at all. After my party we would pick at it for what felt like a week! It was too good to throw away the extra! After lunch today, I finally stopped in to try their other treats and I'm so happy I did. The macaroons were so fresh and I split the tiramisu cake and it was also so delectable. Again very light and very flavorful! Loved the pour over coffee they had displayed and the bakery just smelled of sweet treats when you walked in! Super cute spot! read more

This review is solely for the cake that I ordered. Three stars because I was able to order my 6inch cake with only two days notice. The decor was exactly how I explained so no issue there. The reason for the two stars was the taste! The buttercream frosting tasted like margarine. And was held on to the cake in a thick layered block. Layer Cake Bakery did an AMAZING job with the cupcakes for my parents' anniversary party. Violet was a pleasure to work with and created custom decorations for each style of cupcake. Flavors, decorations, and delivery were all top notch! My personal favorite is the chocolate cake with salted caramel filling. Would order from LCB again in a heartbeat! read more

Her fanaticism of Layer Cake Bakery has caused this Macaron-ics Anonymous member to come close to binging the following six Parisian delicacies, from Fia's least favorite milky ganache to most: 6. Hazelnut: I am disappointed in myself for being picky w/ this particular flavor; I've stumbled upon hazelnut that's either too overwhelming or underwhelming--the latter, in this case =(. 5. Mango: It's tasty primarily b/c it's tolerably sweet; I had a difficult time noticing any mango aroma. 4. Rose: I deem it as acceptably floral, but it's weaker as opposed to 'Lette's kind. However, I do highly recommend this to both novel foodies & those sensitive to potent, flowery fragrances. 3. Chocolate: Woooow, it's off-the-wall chocolaty & richly thick, coming from a chocolate liker :P 2. Strawberry: Goody! It's very delectable for such a lightly fruit-flavored & sweetened mini dessert. So far it's my favorite strawberry mac. 1. Coconut: I just realized--I'm starting to love this type of coconut cooking/baking. (I've mentioned in my DoLy's review back in April that the only coconut passion I have is from Bibingka & Curry, & now the Coconut Macaron is proudly welcomed =D.) Something about the chew of the cookie, flaky shaving texture & coconut ganache simply yet spectacularly matched altogether. Yet, I also self-discovered that I'm pretty flexible w/ macaron textures--as long as there's flavorul potency in the ganache overall, & the cakey part of the cookie isn't desiccated & stale, whether fresh or post fridge-exit. In Layer Cake's not many folks will be comfortable with its airiness between the extremely delicate outer shell & thinly "coated" baked batter. Fortunately these sweet macs came w/ an acceptably moist & exceptionally dense cakey-ness--both the moment I ate the 1st one (Rose ;D) & amazingy 5 minutes after taking the rest out of the refrigerator =). I really need to start calling in ahead of time, like suggested by one of the shop workers, so I know what flavors of macarons are going to be available on the mornings I stop in. They vary greatly and there is no rhyme or reason to which flavors will be available on a given day. Since my favorite flavors of boysenberry, coconut and pistachio were not available when I stopped in, I purchased coffee, chocolate ganache, mango, and passion fruit this time around. Of those flavors, I'd have to say I'd repurchase the mango and passion fruit again. Tried a whoopie pie for the first time ever. Did not know what to expect. The one I had was with chocolate on the cake part and had white marshmallow filling. The overall taste kinda reminded me of a Ding Dong. It was pretty good, but I think I will stick to macarons. Was hoping to trying a slice of tiramisu cake but since I was so early, a lot of the cakes were not out yet. When I have time to sit and eat, I want to try some of the banana pecan or berry french toast that they have. read more

As full as I was from the Pho a couple of stores down, I made the mistake of following the whisper of the macarons... Thank goodness they were for the immediate family, since they wondered why a bite was missing from each of the flavors. They were very light and were a delight to the palate and tummy! Shortbread ginormous! Split one cookie 3 ways. Very yummy with coffee. Macarons and Shortbread cookie- 4 Stars Ambiance - 4 Stars - very clean and well organized Service - 2 Stars - I agree with Timmy S. Smiling school very much needed. With macarons being so popular and very similar, what would set apart one bakery from the next is the customer service. I recommend taking them home and keeping them in the box out of the fridge for a few hours. Exposure to room temp. seems to soften the tops. Taste in general: 4 stars. I was really looking forward to trying Layer Cake Bakery as the latest stop on Sandy T's Summer Cupcake Tour. The shop is really cute, and I like that they have tables so you can relax and enjoy your pastries. Everything in the case looked really good, but perhaps cupcakes are not their forte. Unfortunately I was disappointed with my selection. I got a coconut cupcake, and BF chose the Oreo cupcake. You would think these two flavors would be completely different, but alas, they were both plain cupcakes and only the frosting on top was different. The main thing I didn't like about the cupcakes is that they were in a refrigerated case. The cake was a little dry, and the frosting was similar in consistency to a block of Philadelphia cream cheese. I like to get a particular patio of cake to frosting in each bite, but that was impossible with this hard, cold frosting. Finally I ended up using a fork to eat my cupcake so that I could break off a bit of cake and then combine it with some frosting on my fork. And I thought the whole reason for having cupcakes was so you wouldn't need a fork. Silly me! I might come back to try other baked goods, but after the poor cupcake experience I had, I'm not overly excited to try Layer Cake Bakery again. read more

Layer Cake is definitely the best bakery in town! I have tried almost everything they have to offer: cakes, cupcakes, macarons, cookies... I ended up using them for my wedding cake (back in October) and I only have positive things to say! Liz was wonderful to work with. She was organized, and I had no doubts of how my cake would turn out. We decided to go with our top 3 cake flavors: Mango Delight, Lemon Raspberry, and the Red Velvet. Their cakes are always super moist, and the filling is "melt in your mouth" amazing! The decorations on the cake were exactly what we wanted... Beautiful! I highly recommend using Layer Cake for any parties and weddings. You won't be disappointed, and neither will your guests when they're eating a delicious slice of that cake!! read more

If I could give this bakery 10 stars I would !! 1. Great customer service ,EVERY TIME I have used this bakery I get great customer service ! 2. The cakes are to die for! We use the bakery for every Office occasion and tried every cake on their menu and never had a bad cake! The cakes were so good that me and my staff has purchased cakes for personal events ! 3. Prices - the prices aren't Costco prices , but these cakes are 100% better. The prices are reasonable , no one is breaking the bank. 4. Fresh ingredients are used in all of the items in the menu! You can taste it with every bit. 5. Baked goods , wow, just wow ! If you are looking for a fantastic bakery this is the place !! read more
2.5 Stars. After having a pretty crappy day, I was in a total funk. I came here to try their macarons, because trying new, yummy foods is one of the things that makes me the happiest. I got one of each of: pistachio, green tea, passion fruit, and strawberry flavors. They looked so cute and colorful all packaged up!! I couldn't wait and decided to eat them right in the car. That's when the disappointment set in. =( I ate the pistachio one first. While the flavor of the pistachio was nice, light, and not overwhelming, the macaron itself had a hard shell and dried out texture. It tasted like it had been sitting out for a couple of days. Maybe it had, because it was the last one in the case. Soo sad. It was the same situation with the passion fruit and strawberry - dried out, hard, gross. The green tea was actually softer and seemed a lot fresher, but unfortunately, it had a weird aftertaste. 4 gross macarons for $6.40. I was so, so sad! Definitely not a good first macaron experience. The macaroons here are DELICIOUS! They always have at least 10 varieties daily. I've also come in before for a last minute birthday cake, Red Velvet was nice and dense with sweet cocoa throughout, not too sweet though. Neither was the perfectly spread cream cheese frosting. More creamy than sugary sweet. The thumbprint cookies are also just like Great Granny used to make as Mr. B. says. I only wish they were closer :( read more

Best french toast I had in years! I had a brunch at LCB, and my friend and I ended up ordering so much because so many things looked great and we couldn't choose. We had a portobello mushroom sandwich, french toasts, cupcakes, and cookies! Everything was so good, but I have to say the french toasts were one of the best I had!! The bread for the toast was especially well baked. Soft and chewy. Will come back when I have my next trip to Irvine! When I was there, there were a lot of people, but my order was out quickly. read more

$1.60 each french macaron! I was in the area so of course I had to check this place out! The place was almost empty, except for this couple having a deep conversation, when I walked in at 10:30am. The place is roomy, plenty of open space...maybe because there was barely anybody there. I, having a sweet tooth, wanted to try everything in sight! Cakes! Cupcakes! Macarons! Pastries! My oh my! Decisions decicions!! Then I remembered, it's one of my friend's birthday today! Now there's my excuse to purchase everything in sight! After much contemplation, I walked out with a box of french macarons (9 macarons for $14)...i got 1 each of their flavors.. for my friend, a ginormous slice of red velvet cake ($5.50) for me, a morning bun for me, and a small iced caramel latte for me. I am hoping my friend will share her macarons with me when I give it to her! lol Iced caramel latte was on point...no complain on that. The morning bun was crunchy on the outside and had a croissant texture to it...it went well with my latte. Red Velvet cake was so delicious I could not stop eating it even after telling myself "one bite! just a taste!" I am weak...don't judge me! So I ate half of it...saved the rest for my hubby. Teetering on a 3.5 star, but I love going here for weekend brunch and they have 2 of my all time fave desserts!! So four stars it is. The fresh berries french toast is my go-to brunch choice while husby always opts for the breakfast combo. Portions are pretty filling and my belly is always a happy camper afterwards! There's about 4 tables for indoor seating and a few 2-person tables outside as well. We've usually been able to score a table every time we've gone as most people usually order the pastries to go. Of course after brunch I always make sure to buy some pastries! My faves are the budino (liquid crack I tell you!! so addicting) and the canele. Make sure you buy them when you see 'em, they've sold out a few times I've gone. The budino is in a small cup and is butterscotch pudding goodness! The canele, how to describe...it's like this chewy/soft/with a slight crunch pastry that just makes me want more after each bite. Not as sweet as the budino, but perfect with a cuppa tea or a latte! Their macarons are hit/miss with me. I've tried all the flavors on numerous occasions and can't seem to find consistency in the fillings. Sometimes bland other times delish. If any, the passion fruit macaron always has a burst of flavor. Their cakes are okay. Ordered the tres leches cake for husby's birthday one year and was hoping for a more moist cake as I'm used to tres leches cakes being drenched in in the sweet milk sauces. So I was a bit surprised that our cake was more on the dry side? Fluke? Maybe we'll try just a slice next time and see. Also tried the salted caramel & red velvet cupcakes as well as the flourless chocolate cake.. All three were tasty, though I think I'll stick with my caneles and budinos! y'know the mantra: good service + yummy goodness = thumbs up layer cake! read more
