    Laut's menu spans southeast asian cuisines. My friend has been there a few times, so we went with her top recommended dishes. The place was packed even on a weekday evening. Just a heads-up it's pretty loud inside, and the tables are pretty close together. The prices are definitely on the higher side so come prepared for an elevated malaysian meal. *Satay Chicken $16/4pcs ** This isn't your regular satay chicken skewer because the peanut sauce is next level! So rich, nutty, and savory, with even more crunch from crushed peanuts on top. *Roti Canai $11 Flaky yet pillowy, served with a vegan curry sauce. The curry was a bit watery, but still paired nicely with the roti. *Ultimate Curry Laksa with Mixed Seafood $28** The broth was SO GOOD we couldn't stop sipping it! We went with the recommended egg noodles. Chewy, bouncy, and perfect for soaking up the broth. You can choose different proteins, and we picked mixed seafood which came with shrimp and squid. *Nasi Lemak $30 Of course I had to try the malaysian national dish here. The coconut rice is lowkey addictive, especially with the rendang curry chicken. Though the portion felt a bit small for the price. We only got 3-4 small pieces of chicken. Worth noting it's cheaper ($25) during lunch. *Coconut Pudding $16 A light dessert after a rich meal. I was surprised it comes in a whole coconut! The silky, jiggly coconut jelly was fun to scoop straight from the shell, but nothing impressive flavor-wise. *Teh Tarik (Pulled Tea) $8 *Sweet Thai Iced Tea $8 Both were very sweet and pretty strong on caffeine. I definitely felt it later and it kept me up all night...I preferred the malaysian pulled tea over the thai iced tea.

    Been going here for almost a decade and it always hits. The ultimate curry laksa, any of the rice noodles (char kway teow, pad see ew, etc.), chicken satay, and nasi lemak are great. The Bok choy is also really flavorful and tasty. The roti canai is great and chewy. Can't go wrong with anything! We got a reservation for Friday evening and were seated immediately.

    We found this place through Google Maps and walked in around 5pm on Saturday and they were already busy. Since we didn't have a reservation, we sat at the bar (which only seats 4). Staff was very helpful in recommending dishes and courteous. Roti was super flaky and delicious with the curry. We also enjoyed the coconut rice with rendang fish. Laksa we got with shrimp and thick egg noodles which were delicious as well. Great spicy warm broth on a cold day! They have happy hour but only on weekdays.

    Loved the vibe at Laut, such a cool space and the signage really adds to it. There were a couple birthdays while we were there and they do this fun song with flickering lights, which made the whole experience feel really lively and memorable. The food was solid but didn't totally blow me away. We got the ultimate curry laksa and assam laksa. The assam laksa had great flavor, but the broth was pretty thick, almost more like a sauce. That said, the roti canai is a must try! It's so good and honestly the standout of the meal. I also liked the teh tarik, which was refreshing and not too sweet!

    We had came across this hidden gem while wondering around the city hungry. We were having cravings of Thai/Malaysian food and luckily this spot incorporated the best of both worlds. Initially, we had wanted to try Nyonya (a Malaysian restaurant in lower manhattan) but didn't have the time. Service here was amazing, warm and friendly. A small & quaint restaurant that deserves all the recognition! :)

    Everything was very good!! The nasi lemak and laksa are both very good. Laut feels very authentic. Everything comes in big portions, so it's good to share everything. The service is great, and it feels modern and elegant inside.

    Lunch specials: - Indo Nasi Goreng - fried rice was very flavorful and the dried shrimp sambal sauce was great. Comes with a fried egg and I think it was topped with a thin circular prawn cracker. Protein was shrimp (+$2) and I added an extra portion for shrimp (+$6) for $28.31 (after tax). Since it was a lunch special, it came with egg rolls which were decent. I got a total of 7 shrimps in my take out. Not sure if I was supposed to get a total of 8 shrimps in total for extra portion of shrimp. [4 out of 5 STARS] - Curry Laksa with mixed seafood ($24) was OK but it was very filling. Lots of fish balls, shrimp and squid. The egg round noodles were a little thick for my liking. Good curry flavor. Maybe next time I'll get thin rice noodle instead. [3 of 5 STARS] Cashier was very friendly and helpful with my to go order. Takeout service was very fast. My indo Nasi Goreng was done in like 5 minutes.

    Had an interesting time at Laut to say the least with another one of our couple friends and a friend of mine who was the connection between both of us couples. We got a nice corner table to ourselves. Little bit away from the door and also hidden a bit from the overall bustle. After chatting for a while, we finally got to ordering drinks. Now about the drinks - it was some of the most unique presentation I've ever seen. The Api-Api I got - which came in what looked like a take out rice container - was something I've never been before. Kudos to the creativity. From there, we started to order the food, which surprisingly came out very fast even after it took a while to get the waitresses' attention. We tried the Roti Telur to share. Was pretty solid and this was more of a unique Malaysian dish of sorts. We then split off our own ways to order the entrees. We did get a tofu satay & also the fresh pineapple wok fry to share between the both of us. The tofu satay was a bit too bland and dry, in my humble opinion. The pineapple wok fry was good too. I did wish I could have more, but couldn't be greedy. We then split a mango cheesecake for dessert. We were gonna order the coconut pudding, but unfortunately it wasn't available. Great time, good food, maybe a bit too expensive for what you're getting. I think the experience together made up for that though.

    Laut NYC has become one of my absolute favorite spots in the city. Every single dish we tried was packed with flavor and done perfectly. The Nasi Lemak was incredible -- rich, fragrant, comforting, and full of authentic flavors. The Hainanese Fried Rice was another standout, simple in the best way and executed flawlessly. The Tom Yum Noodle Soup had the perfect balance of spice, tanginess, and warmth, and the Pad Thai was easily one of the best I've had in NYC. But the true star of the meal was the Roti Canai. Honestly, it deserves its own 10/10 rating. Crispy, indulgent, creative, and absolutely unforgettable. The ambience is amazing as well. The restaurant has such a warm, lively, and cozy vibe that makes the whole dining experience feel special without trying too hard. Whether it's a casual dinner or a date night, the atmosphere just works perfectly. And the service was an absolute 10/10. Everyone was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind throughout the meal. Laut is one of those places where every part of the experience -- food, ambience, and service -- comes together perfectly. Already looking forward to my next visit.

    For someone who grew up visiting KL and Singapore regularly, Laut missed the mark for me. Flavors were good but far off from other NYC Malaysian restaurants, let alone meals I've had back in Malaysia. Started off with the roti which was chewy and flaky that went well with the curry sauce. I just wish it was warmer. The butter garlic crab is something I would get again because of how tasty and crispy it was. It does have some sprinkled salt, sugar, and a little of MSG which made it even better. I wish they had a salted duck egg version which would have been amazing with the crab. Appreciated how they gave us lots of curry leaves! For mains, the laksa really fell short of my expectations. The soup was bland; all I could taste was the coconut milk. I wish it had more spice, more flavors, more umami. The thick egg noodles were also just fine because they were a little overcooked. The squid pieces, fish balls, tofu were solid. For our rendang, we wanted to switch it up and got the fish instead of beef. The fish itself was solid - fried nicely with a crunchy batter and tender meat. The rendang sauce itself was more peanut-y and tasty on its own; however it lacked the herbaciousness, the lemongrass, the spice that rendang is known for. I would have given the food a 3.5 but the service dropped it down to a 3. It felt like we had to seek our server's attention and the dessert menu wasn't offered, when I heard other tables talking about it. With the dim lighting and prices, I think they were trying to deliver a more elevated experience, but I was put off by the old curry stains on the lights and menus. From the dishes to ambience and service, I was hoping for a little more.

    I love the food over at Laut! I first heard about Laut from the curry laksa dish so I've been interested in this restaurant since. I also had the roti canai, satay chicken, and basil fried rice. I like the satay chicken and didn't find it to be dry. The peanut really made it stood out! I loved the roti canai as well! I like the curry that came with it, but I did wish that it came with more things though such as chicken or potatoes. I also loved both of my entrees but the curry laksa is definitely one of my favorite curry dishes I've ever had!

    Great vibe for a family dinner! Nice interior with exposed brick. We tried a bunch of dishes: roti canai, curry puffs, tofu satay, nasi lemak, Singapore chili crab, ikan bakar, drunk-man noodles and fragrant pineapple fried rice. Great way to try a variety of Malaysian flavors, but certain items could have been more tender and it's pricey for the portion size. Favorites were the Singapore chili crab, Ikan bakar, and small sides that are served with the nasi lemak. Service was kind, but could have been more attentive.

    Made a reservation to ensure our spot, and good thing we did, cause it got packed within 20 minutes of opening during lunch hours on a Sunday. Upon entering, I was so impressed with the interior, gorgeous wall art, beautiful ceiling, and a small bar in the back corner. The menu had so many exciting dishes. They were pricey but that's expected in the city. We picked a bunch to have a full on family style meal. We ordered the roti canai, roti telur, ilat bakar (fish), duck curry, Singapore crispy soft shell chili crab, baby bok choi, Hainanese roast chicken with rice, Malaysian curry with shrimp and side of bao buns. The dishes started coming out one after another within short intervals. All the dishes were so amazing, huge portions, full of flavors. My favorite were the chili crab, duck, roti canai and the Thai iced tea. All of us were belly full as we throughly enjoyed all the dishes. We even had some leftovers to take home. The service was good. Our server was so friendly. Empty dishes and plates were taken out quickly. We were able to take our sweet time dining in. Overall we had a delightful lunch experience here with our friends and kids.

The beef rendang was the last dish to come out, the beef pieces were very tender and this was the spiciest dish out of all 3 that we had ordered. It came with about a bowl's worth of white rice on the side and some cucumbers and purple cabbage salad. It was a pretty okay lunch. Not the best Malaysian food I've had (Chinatown is still the best spot for me) but it's a good spot if you're craving Malaysian food in the west village area. Bathrooms were immaculately clean which is always a plus.
