Worst experience! Lisa the owner is nice and the only decent nail technician but it's still a risk. She really needs to hire new people. One lady ruined my nails entirely. After 5 mins they started peeling, they were chunky, bubbly, and bumpy. I tried to find it in my heart to keep them but they were soooo bad I had to have them remove the paint. Afterwards she wanted to charge me full price. I told her I would leave her a large tip for her time but I could not walk out with my nails destroyed paying full price since I was going to have to go elsewhere to get them fixed. I even told her if she cleaned them up and put clear gel on them I would pay her more but she just argued and yelled at me. A older lady did my pedicure named Lisa. When I told her if she can cut my nail alittle more because it's uneven she said no it's fine like that. I made them better say thank you. None of my toes are even or shaped so that was making me mad. And my gel manicure ugh done by a guy it's all sloppy and chunky on a couple nails this is day one and I hope they don't chip or peel. I was getting my car washed next door and figured I would pop in for a quick gel manicure. The guy who did my nails was really sweet but it took him an hour to do them. Absolutely horrific. I made an appointment that started 15 minutes late. They used an electronic nail file to "loosen" my cuticles and cut me so badly that I bled the entire time. She did it NOT ONCE BUT TWICE!!! She then didn't listen when I told her that I was searching for a more natural pink. After not finding a color anywhere near (a simple natural pink!) I asked for one coat. I had to practically yell for her not to apply a second coat. The place was dirty - it looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in weeks. I don't mean dust, I mean nail bits everywhere. She used a dirty towel and her tools clearly hadn't been sanitized. Oh, and then she charged me full price for the botch job. Never again. read more

OKAY, I was so confused about why this place received so many negative reviews then I saw that a fellow yelper said the owner of this salon is named Tina... well NOT ANYMORE!. The new owner of this salon is named MICHELLE, her Vietnamese name is Phuong. The place is also slightly renovated (decorations) and definitely CLEANER than before. Michelle is SOOO nice and did a really good job on my nails. I got gel nails done, which uses my real nails and the paint didn't chip for a whole 2 weeks!. She has SOO many colors for gel nails, I got #17 which is this slightly sparkly pink and I got several compliments on them. I guess since she took over she threw out all the old nail polish and got a new selection. Yes, this place isn't in the greatest neighborhood, but it's a great place to get in, get your nails done, and get out. Oh, and btw.. since it's not in the greatest neighborhood, they have to buzz you in, so if you yank on the door and it doesn't open the first time, just try again 5 seconds later, lol. I also saw a lot of people come in for this other lady (forgot her name) to get their eyebrows done.. must try her next time. This is to make sure that no one else is treated in such an inappropriate and unsatisfactory manner ever in their lives. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON IF YOU CAN AVOID IT. Go anywhere just not here. I was there a few days ago and asked for a full set. After polishing my nails, they asked me to go to the back of the salon to wash my hands. I accidentally walked in on the employees switching one tub of water that they had previously used on another customer for a spa pedicure, and filling it in another tub and bringing it out for the other customer waiting for her pedicure. Of course when I mentioned something they told me they just washed the tub and they would never use the same water but I saw how the Asian lady in the back just filled the water into another tub and brought it out. Fortunately, the tubs were noticeably different and I am certain 100% that they switched the tubs but used the same water. They are disgusting. As soon as I mentioned it and called them out on it, they asked me to leave. Of course that didn't sit very well with them. Their conditions are unsanitary and disgusting! I don't know why there are so many negatives about Laurel Nails. I have been going here off and on for about 2 years now. I have never had a bad experience and my nails last forever. I go there to get fills and my nails never chip, like they do when I go to more expensive places. My nails grow crazy fast and they don't charge me to cut them down like other places do either...I don't get that, how do you charge to cut nails at a nail place. They do a great job on my pedicures too, again my pedicure lasts for a while too. they take their time and give a pretty darn good foot massage also. If you want a longer massage there is a charge for that. I have never made an appointment and never had to wait longer than 10 minutes to be seen, but then again, I do as a cabby make my own hours, so I can go doing off hours during the week. I have seen it get busy though, so if you want to go on the weekend or on in the evening an appointment couldn't hurt. I am pretty tight when it comes to money, so I think they the prices aren't bad, whenever I go, I get a pedicure and a fill, that costs me $30.00 with tip, I know there are places more expensive than that. My only complaint is that they do not take credit cards and parking can be sketchy especially since there is a major construction project on Oxnard and you can't park on the street.I am sorry that the other reviewers had such a bad experience, but I never have and I hope that others give them a chance. read more

This place I went to despite the bad reviews and yet surprised that I was very disappointed I got acrylic nails and gel polish the nails turned out crooked and the polish was messy and some was on my skin also weirdly she had me get up to wash my hands of all the filing after applying the acrylic to clean the nails! I can understand why this place had negative reviews before. Every time I got my nails done here before, I walked out unhappy with the results. I can't think of one time in the past where I walked out of there satisfied. I would go just because it was so close to my house(my fault). Plus, I really didn't like the girls that used to work here. So I stopped coming here altogether for a few years. However, now with the new owner it's so much better. I came back on a whim, and have been coming back ever since. Its definitely cleaner, than it used to be and looks better in general. I see Michelle & Lan (aka "Sandy") for my nails, they both do a great job. I especially love Michelle but all the girls are great here. They are always happy to help you, they're warm/inviting, they want you to be happy when you walk out. They have fair prices & every time I'm thrilled with the way my nails look. In fact, they do such a great job that I've ONLY had to get fills. The last new full set of acrylic I've gotten was about 8 MONTHS AGO. And I'm tough on my nails. I'm surprised fills have lasted this long for me. In the past I've always had to get new set, because eventually they would start to fall off. I payed $20 or $22 for a new set 8 months ago. And I only pay $13 for a fill every-time since. I just love this place & I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

You have got to be kidding me. For those who just want the quick and dirty - don't go there. SERIOUSLY! Save yourself some heartache. Ok, so let me get this straight - you open a salon, you make yourself out to be an aesthetician, you charge people money and they put their trust in you. They trust that you won't give them fungus, burn their skin with hot wax, or cut them with the nailclipper, right? Or am I like getting this whole salon idea wrong? Because really, I'm starting to think that all it is sometimes is just punishment for you not taking the time to do your own damn nails, or being too lazy to take the drive to the other salon, the one you usually go to, where they will actually do what salons are supposed to do, and not give you a gift that keeps on giving - whatever that might be. I'm like that pidgeon that once pecked the button and had a treat pop out, and so he keeps pecking that button until his beak bleeds, and yet no treats have popped out in like years. When I was an undergrad at UCSB, I lucked out with getting the most perfect wax at this dinky salon right off campus. Boy, did I get excited. Miracles do happen! Since then, I have always known that there must be this miracle-working humble-looking salon somewhere out there for me. I mean don't get me wrong, most of the time I chicken out and go to the normal ones - you know, the ones recommended by people I know. But my eye still wanders, hoping, searching. Well, I think this was my last stab at finding that Eldorado. This time, i needed an arm wax. Nothing special, right? It's not like it's a brazillian. No special skills required here, so I though, why not give it a try? I've made an appointment at Laurel Nails for 5 pm one afternoon, since they're like two blocks from where I live. I asked the lady on the phone if they accept checks. I was told YES. So I get there, and it's like...indescribably disgusting looking. I couldn't help but notice their nail polish choices - a pathetic display of ten dried out bottles. Well, I thought to myself, I'm not here for a manicure, thankfully. How can you mess up an arm wax? WELL - apparently you can. The lady who was doing my arms...how shall I put it...I think she's never done it before! To keep the already-long story from getting even longer, I was set on walking out of there with one arm unwaxed - she was THAT bad. She kept waxing the places that don't need to be waxed - like my hands - and missing spots that actually needed to be gone over. I had to actually tell her not to do that! The wax was so hot that it burned and didn't actually stick to the hair, so she ended up pulling the fabric off leaving the hair intact. I could've done a better job with a roll of packing tape, I kid you not! She kept asking me if it was hot, and upon receiving an affirmative answer, not doing anything about it. ANYWAY, at the end, it turns out that they don't even accept checks! F@$K! So being the law abiding citizen that I am, I actually call my boyfriend and ask him to drive those 20 bucks over, when in all fairness I should have just told them to either take the check or beat it, because it was by far the worst waxing job ever! read more

Extremely slow work and over priced, I regret getting gel polish here. It took one hour just for a color change and not even a manicure! The first color I chose started to shrink before she could even apply the clear coat and she had to remove all the gel and start over with another color! After I chose a different color, they asked for $20 even after all the trouble and time they wasted just for a gel color application. I feel ripped off and disappointed. read more

I came i for a fill nails and a pedicure. The staff was nice the pretty careful awesome they take a long time to taking care of my feet . They do try there best but they don't do your fill natural look. when she was painting my hands , I was having a nervous breakdown she was nice enough to give me a tea cause my hands were super cold . I absolutely love Sandy! This is the very first place I've ever gone to... to get my eyebrows done. I was never the type to trust people with my eyebrows so I always left them alone and bare rather than have someone screw them up and for them to be thin and possibly not grow back. But, after seeing my friend go in first to get hers done LOL, I saw how perfect they looked and I couldn't resist. By the time you're done, they look like you've drawn them on like the MUA Models, but they're the real deal! And Sandy is BOMB with EVERYTHING! People love to write horrible reviews, but not give props when it's due. It is a little shop, and actually I love it because it's my secret shop where I can get away when you def don't wanna be bothered by everyone and chaos! GO SANDY!!! I called this place and made an appointment with "Tina" - when I got there, Tina greeted me and told me to "pick color" - they had very few colors to choose from and the ones they did have were god-awful colors and all the bottles were only 1/4 full! If I had these at home, I would have thrown them out! "Tina" told me to have a seat, then some skinny little chinese guy (about 17 years old) who could have been someone's kid brother working there for all I knew, proceeded to sit in front of me and told me to "soak nails in water" - COLD water that is! Ugh! I said, "what happened to Tina?" - I got no response! I had to jerk my hand away from him since he was hurting me with the nail clippers and my cuticles were starting to bleed! Another non-english speaking asian (a woman) started with my feet and the so-called "massage" was fast and sloppy - then she had the nerve to ask if I wanted "extra massage" for $5 --- I said No. Then she asked if I wanted "chemical" put on my heels to get rid of dry skin for $5 --- God! What is it with these people! It seems like they nickel and dime you to death if you want a decent job done! This place is dirty and unprofessional!
