I was here before Guy Fieri and I knew that the green bean soup was a trip to Flavor town. I love going on Monday to get the green bean soup, an American cheese kraut burger, and desert of the day. This day, a Tuesday, I asked if there was any leftover soup from Monday. There were 3 qts and I got one to go. I then brought home a huge slice of rhubarb cake and 2 kraut burgers for lunch with the husband. This is a homey diner; it is fun to listen to the banter between the locals. The ladies who work here are always smiling and helpful. And now that Guy gas been here, you get to see his poster and merchandise.

I had sort of resigned myself to having a series of only okay / good enough dining experiences on my Colorado vacation. However, our flight didn't leave till around 3 PM on our last day, and Lauer Krauts came up on Yelp with great reviews, so we decided to try it for lunch. Let me just say that Lauer Krauts CAME THROUGH!!! The food and especially the warm and welcoming service was absolutely phenomenal. It's a smaller space located inconspicuously on a side street in Brighton, Colorado. There are only 3 tables inside and a couple of tables outside. The menu is small, featuring mostly kraut burgers and wrapped sausages, and is posted on a few boards behind the register. There's also lots of Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives memorabilia around, as the restaurant was featured on the show. We walked in and were warmly greeted by a sweet lady who my mom immediately pegged as a former resident of Wisconsin from her accent (my mom was right, lol). They had a nice laugh and she explained the menu to us. Three of us got kraut burgers; mom and fiancé got theirs "original style" (cabbage, kraut, and ground beef in a homemade roll) with chips; I got my kraut burger with pepperjack cheese mixed into the roll. I opted to try the homemade potato soup as my side. My dad got a sausage roll and chips. We also got the German chocolate brownie as a dessert. Our food was delivered to us by the sweetest adolescent boy named Aaron. He was so sincere, professional, and friendly; it was obvious he took his job very seriously and it was such a pleasure to see a young person enjoying taking on service work. He explained the house made sauces and seasonings (try the honey mustard!) and made sure we didn't need anything else. He came back a few minutes later with a piece of their new pear kouga (a bit like a pear cake/strudel) cut into four pieces. They just wanted us to try it and let them know what we thought - no problem there, lol! The food was just as phenomenal as the service. The kraut burgers are NOT burgers in the conventional sense; they are much more like stuffed rolls. That being said, the homemade bread is soft, pillowy, yeasty and just delicious. The kraut is faintly sour and the meat is cooked well. Dipping it in the honey mustard or other homemade sauce brings it home. The potato soup was rich, creamy, and obviously made fresh. My dad liked his sausage roll, too. The German chocolate brownie was moist and had deep, dark chocolate flavor. And the pear kouga!! I am so glad they brought some out for us. It was perfectly balanced with the sweetness of the fruit and the butteriness of the crust. The price was right at less than $10 bucks a person for a hearty meal. The family matriarch, Lori Lauer, came out and chatted with us as we were finishing up, making sure we enjoyed our food, etc. She shared with us about their immigrant family, their history working in the sugar beet fields, and the history of the restaurant. She was absolutely delightful, gave each of us a warm smile and a hug and made sure we placed a pin on their map to represent where we were visiting from. :) Delicious food, great prices, and absolutely soul-warming service from a fascinating and welcoming family make for an experience not to be missed. We will make the drive back out to Brighton just for a Lauer Krauts fix whenever we make it back to Colorado.

Finally made it to Lauer Krauts for lunch with my better half. This place is famous for their kraut burgers and their desserts.... Not to mention their cinnamon rolls. Super pleasant place to have lunch. The staff members were all very nice not to mention the customers we interacted with. Just a few (4) tables in the dinning area with some outside seating, which wouldn't be a bad thing on a nice warm day. The entry to the restaurant is south facing along with the tables outside which makes for a nice warm cozy atmosphere. As for the menu, there are several variations to choose from as far as the kraut burgers go, not to mention some sausage & hotdogs wrapped in dough. The dough wrapped kraut burgers were excellent though. Don't forget to try the homemade soup too...next time we're in, definitely getting some dessert and a cinnamon roll, if there are any left.

Quick fresh and not expensive. Apparently Guy Fieri was here and I got to say watching his bit on that the burgers looked bigger on tv but anyway I highly recommend. Also the brownie for desert is really good! Only 3 tables inside and a little bit more outside so take into account

Heard about Lauer Krauts on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives a couple of months ago and knew I needed to make a trek over to give em a try - especially considering my family makes "kraut buns" basically identical to their kraut burgers. We were not disappointed! Great service. The kraut burgers were hot, flavorful and completed by the addition of mustard - very traditional. They had several kinds available including their made-in-house honey mustard. The warm German potato salad with bacon and green onions was tasty as well. We didn't get to try their famous cinnamon rolls as they apparently make them on Thursday's and we stopped in on a Wednesday. We did grab dessert to go - their Jail House Cake, but haven't tried it yet. Go see this place for yourself and enjoy a German Kraut Burger/Bun!

As a local and a regular, it is my pleasure to endorse Lauer Krauts as an integral and not-to-be-missed contributor to both Brighton's culinary culture and relative gustatory refinement. As the saying goes, the proof is in the pudding. Though Lauer Krauts offers runzas with cheese and other condiments, I've never felt tempted to elaborate needlessly on something that needs no elaboration. Those that disagree with me will say cheese and condiments take a great burger and make it better -- that's fine; because if that's all we're arguing, then I know we're already in agreement that Lauer Krauts is a great burger. And that is, after all, what you came looking for in the first place. read more

Parking: side street parking Atmosphere: cute little shop with 3 tables inside, it's kind of tight in there when waiting in line to order, there are a couple umbrella covered tables outside for dining. Staff: super friendly and helpful for this being our first time. Food: we ordered An Original, The American, Sausage Wrap & German Chocolate Brownie. Faster service than most fast-food joints! Lauer Krauts offers a home-cooked meal for a reasonable price. They have take out and dine in with seating on a patio. The kraut burgers are fresh tasting, quite delicious, and go well with a cup of soup. They are made from real ground beef, no hint of soy or other filler. The lunch menu is minimal and predictable which allows the quality of the meal to be as good as the last time you visited. A great little place to grab a warm meal in town. read more

Great find after picking up my father in-law at the airport. Had the Jack Lauer Kraut Burger and a clam chowder. Sign on the wall says "A grouchy German is a Sour Kraut." Nobody would be grouchy after eating here! We will definitely be back! read more

Finally found a restaurant in Brighton that has fresh from scratch food. Had the great food here! If it wasn't tucked back off the main street (Bridge Street), they would have a line going out the door. read more

This was a wonderful hidden gem! The kraut burger was delicious and all the food here is freshly made. A colleague from work had told me about this place and I was finally able to pay a visit. I am beyond happy that I did, this restaurant had the most delicious kraut burgers that I have had in a long time. I had to finish the meal with some freshly made cookies as well. I would definitely recommend Lauer Krauts and will certainly return myself. read more

We went to the wild animal sanctuary and found this Gem of a triple D place by chance. We visit so many triple D restaurants, we love it. We stopped in and had what was recommended and it was scrump-dilly-icious broccoli cheese soup was delish, signature dish was great with cheddar/or American cheese. Friendlist folks ever. On a road trip, we were looking for something good in an area we weren't similar with and were intrigued by the name and description of this restaurant. We chatted with the hostess and chose Krautburgers without cheese The sandwiches were delicious - bread and filling. This was a first time for me. . We also had soups - green bean and gazpacho. Both were excellent. We topped it off which whoopee pie and a German chocolate brownie. No complaints anywhere. The property is neat and clean. The conversations were good amongst patrons and staff. Give it a try if you are in the area. read more

Loved loved loved. Saw this on diners drive-ins and dives and thought we would give it a try. Ordered two of the lauer kraut burgers, the potato green bean dumplings soup and the jailhouse cake. Keep in mind we weren't even hungry but wanted to try all these dishes. The lauer kraut burgers...omg. The bread is amazing and just the amount of filling on the inside. We also tried their homemade honey mustard dip and it was the perfect accompaniment. The soup was very flavorful. Crackers were offered but we declined...they were simply not needed and we didn't want to compromise the flavor of the soup. The jailhouse cake was to die for. The serving was HUGE. Full of flavor and nuts, the icing was delicious and just the right amount. We opted to eat outside at one of their picnic tables. Our waitress and her service and recommendations were phenomenal! Silly me forgot to ask her name but just ask for the little retired police officer. We finished everything and would have licked the paper but since we were in public we didn't. Love this place, everything is homemade and the quality shines through in every way read more

Not many German place around. And if they are I definitely haven't found them. In fact I happened to find this place by luck. They have good meat here. One of the best I've had. I don't know whether it's a new place or not but it certainly has that new vibe to it and they seem to still be in the process of figuring some things out. The Service could be better in terms of haste and timing but the staff is super professional, the environment is nice, new and calm enough for a restaurant. I'm going to keep coming because I believe it's a wonderful place and it's only going to keep getting better as time goes on. read more

First time customer and we will absolutely be back. The best German food I've had since my grandparents. Their kraut burgers, broccoli cheddar soup, and green bean soup with dumplings, were all scrumptious! Always a favorite to go to. And always worth a wait! Usually it's pretty easy to come in and get seated right away, but if there is a wait it's usually shorter then predicted, and always worth it! The food is fresh and delicious and I will always recommend the tour of Italy because it is filling and delicious and you get to taste a few different dishes and see what you like best! The service is always amazing and the staff is always so kind! Perfect place for dates or just a night out! read more

Very friendly place, a family affair for sure. I ordered gluten free so the gave me a kraut burger with no bun which was fine except there was little spice or flavor. It was nutritious but flat. I love German food especially sauerkraut and may return but I'll bring some spice next time. read more

I am working a travel contract in SE Colorado, and had seen Lauer's on Guy's food network program. So I decided on my day off to drive the 2 hrs. plus to check this out. I ordered a #2 the soup of the day was clam chowda, I'm from the Maine coast so now I'm intrigued. Most chowda outside of Maine is made way too thick, this chowda had a nice creamy consistency with great clam flavor. The krautburgah is something new to me and was unbelievable. I left with a take out sausage wrap and a wicked big german chocolate brownie. The service was excellent and timely. I spoke with one of the owners and found out she was originally from Rockland, Maine. Just south of where I live. What more can I say but thank you Deah! read more

The hubby ordered the American krautburger and I ordered the Perry's special. Perry's special was very good-German sausage cooked in dough, smothered with chili, cheese, sauerkraut, and onions-but the chili had way too many beans for my taste. Little did we know...krautburgers are the Colorado version of what we Nebraskans call runzas. Runzas will always be at the top of my list. But kraut burgers are now a fairly close second! Although we were sharing our meals, the mister got the majority of the krautburger and I was jealous! The homemade honey mustard was delicious too. The service was super fast and the staff was extremely friendly! If we didn't live hundreds of miles away, this would certainly become a go-to lunch spot for us. read more

we took a little side trip from Denver on our way home last week to try some Runzas in Brighton. (that's what Germans from Nebraska call them)We were Not disappointed! These yummy, hot, tasty pockets full of hamburger, onions, and saurkraut/cabbage mixture were nearly as great as my Grandmas!! Comfort food a5 the fineat!! read more

I was especially surprised to find that they don't serve brandy, which feels like a slight omission for a well stocked bar. That said, I am one to always give second (maybe third and fourth) chances so on our recent visit, I ordered the Southwestern Steak Sandwich and it was a pleasant surprise--the sirloin was authentic (aka good cuts, not gristle) and cooked to my specifications (medium). The ancho chipotle sauce has a nice flavor which also pairs well with the house salad. So kudos to the waitress for allowing me to order a sampling of dressings for it (the salad). I am not converted just yet but will try for another visit and the pizza buffet. We all have goals in life, right?

The place was nice-looking enough and they had good energy from its patrons. It's just a shame the lack of good service kind of ruins the experience and makes us not want to visit this particular branch again on a return visit, whenever that might be.

I never had a real Kraut Burger before I stopped by here. Oh sure, I'd bought a crappy version at the King Soopers deli section now and then. But to really experience a real kraut burger, stop by Lauer Krauts. The location is kind of funky, next to the chiropractor's office across the street from the Senior Center. The kraut burgers are really good, but their soups are out of this world!Best chicken noodle soup I've had in a long time. Wednesdays are German Potato Salad day and well worth showing up mid-week. This place is the best kept secret in Brighton. If it weren't for its out of the way location, you would never be able to get in to eat here. Kraut burgers, soups and deserts, they're all excellant.
