There are a handful of these cafes around and the one thing that I love most is the step back in time. It's like going to the cafe when I was a kid. Smell. Floor tiles. Table and chairs. Counter seating. It all makes me happy. The location in commerce city is near our office. Sometimes you just need a breakfast sandwich at 7am or a burger and fries for lunch. Nothing glamorous or over priced. Everyone there is super nice and I've seen most of them off and on for 6 years. Service is always just right. This place crossed my mind after a good workout and was feeling a yummy breakfast. This location is surrounded by industries and small. Parking is also small. I came in good timing and it wasn't crowded. I took a seat anywhere. My waitress was great and attentive. I got grapefruit juice and the #1 order which consisted of 1 French toast, 2 slices of bacon, 1 scrambled egg, and 2 sausage patties. Oh, boy, my breakfast was savory!!! Everything on my plate deserved a clean licking. Lol Yes, I slowly savored every bite, drink, and feeling as it sat in my mouth, touched my tongue, went down my esophagus, and into my tummy. I was looking for a breakfast spot in Commerce City, since I'm here for the weekend, and don't know where anything is, and don't really like driving that much. Yelp notified me of The Butcher Block. It is a small diner, mom and pop style. Saturday morning, it's not super busy, but enough people to not worry me haha. I ordered a few things, and I swear to you, it was all out within 5 minutes. The cinnamon roll was definitely microwaved, however it was still delicious. Slathered in butter, how could it not be? I also ordered a side of biscuits and gravy, the biscuits aren't super thick, and the gravy is a little spicy (keep in mind I don't do any sort of spice well. Yes. I am a pansy), but this was a perfect side. I love B&G and you can tell a lot by a place and this particular dish. I also ordered 2 slices of French toast, and it was not my favorite. A little soggy. But it didn't keep me from eating. Also, they bring the syrup to you warm, which is an A+ move for me. If I lived here, this is definitely somewhere i would frequent. The employees are incredibly friendly, especially my server, his name was Todd. You definitely want to be in his section, never had a more kind person as my server. So it's been quite awhile since we've been here bu it's not changed. This used to be a regular treat fo us when we worked in the area but that was years ago we been back once, but I thought I'd treat my son and grandkids to it. So packed up wife and little ones and off we went. So to my stomach's delight it was still as tasty as before even most of the staff was the same. Like they say if it's not broke dont fix it. We all opted for burgers with mine being a double blockbuster cheeseburger that will stand up to any chain or competitor out there and yes that includes ,Jim's burger haven or Grandpa's, and probably win. Of course there's nothing fancy here but during the week you used to get a mixed crowd but who doesnt like good food?. Of course the have other options and serve breakfast all day and have daily specials but in m mind the burger is the way to go. They do have limited hours so check before you go but definitely worth it. read more

My favorite is the Full Roundhouse (see photo): The plate starts with a base of buttery hash browns, next comes the ham, sausage, AND bacon layer... pig x 3 = awesome. Then, we find the cheese layer. Next, your choice of egg preparation is topped on all of that and finally we get to the 'smothered in green chile' layer. What's not to like about a dish like this? Oh yeah - NOTHING! What can you say about this little jewel nestled into the hustle and bustle of industrial Commerce Shitty. But this place is a beacon for all that crave a fair-priced breakfast that's on par with other more expensive restaurants. Brandy! Sweet, smiley, humble, soft spoken but knows her way around customers. All around a five star experience. It's not fancy yet has a warm old school greasy spoon feel. Chicken Fried Steak please, over easy, wheat, coffee, and water. Hmm, what's on this plate coming my way? no gravy? oh, genius! they put the gravy on the bottom! You can see that instead of a crudded up with batter patty of mystery meat hidden under that ol' artery clogging white shit, they laid down a chunk of beef dusted with flour and nicely browned, on top of just the right amount of gravy! Don't get the salad - I ordered a side salad to try to make myself feel better about my main dish selection (the Block Buster greasy spoon burger) and it was a tiny bowl of half brown lettuce with a few strips of dried up carrot topped with straight-from-the-bottle Hidden Valley Ranch. But as my husband stated so simply, "It's not called the Butcher's Garden", true that! Aside from the salad, everything was very tasty, served hot, filling, and very affordable. As mentioned, I had the Block Buster, a 1/3 pound greasy spoon hamburger served with crisp lettuce, freshly sliced tomatoes, pickles and onions. My husband enjoyed the Block Buster with cheese. We both got a side order of fries and while they weren't the best we've ever had, they were crispy and flavory. Not a place for a date but what a great and simple menu.Every time I am here I read the menu,I don't know why it hasn't changed in 30 years.There are 3 of these in Denver owned by 3 brothers for the last three decades.This one isn't much to look at inside or out but I promise that once you have had there burgers or one of there breakfasts you will return.
