While on a gluten free trip I ordered the steak and eggs a couple of times and a side of green chile which was actually two meals because I brought most of the steak home to make tacos! Today, I got the bacon and eggs and asked for them to put cheese on the hash browns and smother them with green chile! They perfectly executed eggs over-medium, which was exactly what I needed to get the perfect texture for my deconstructed burrito. No longer gluten free, I opted to upgrade the toast to strawberry crepes! They have all kinds of baked goods that I am certain are amazing but should avoid becoming addicted to. I appreciate that I could order a hot dog and fries for breakfast, haha! In addition to this, I got the Banana and Nutella Crepes, which were yummy! I tried to order them again today, but they were out. :( The food here isn't extraordinary, but they do an above average job at breakfast food. Better than what I could cook myself, but not entirely possible. This place is a local business and all of the employees are kind, making the service great. You can tell that this is a small business and the inside is cozy. Nothing too fancy, and it feels like you can show up in your PJs, no judgment, which I love, haha. My husband and I went on Sunday for breakfast. I ordered the steak and egg breakfast so did he when I went to eat my breakfast I had a long black hair in it. I took it back to the lady that took my order. She takes the hair out of my food and then tries to bring me back the plate that had the hair in it when I look at her funny She asked me if I wanted a fresh plate. As a Denverite I've always gone to the Swifts on Santa Fe for years but then I started going here because it's clean and more open space. Both have great service and I like the folks who work here. Had an event but was early so we decided on breakfast. Didn't know what to expect but this is such a cute diner vibe restaurant. Regulars and those who wandered in like us. Parked right up front in the lot. The line cooks smiled their greetings as we walked in. Sat in a booth and Manda B. came over with menus. OJ and water to start while we went over the selections. Everything sounded yummy and we finally settled on the Basics - eggs, hash browns, toast with bacon. He chose the Big Breakfast - eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns and toast. He said everything was delicious except he didn't like the style of hash browns. They were more like country potatoes but a little mashed. The eggs were cooked perfectly- ooey gooey yolk sopped up with my toast. Bacon not over fried. The potatoes were good with salt and pepper but not like the hash browns we are used to. It was a nice atmosphere, friendly and inviting. Small town diner vibes. Manda was friendly and checked on us to make sure we were doing well. The restrooms were clean. Visiting from out of town looking for a reasonable brunchy place that would serve both my tastes and my elderly aunt. Diner atmosphere is perfect. I noticed a lot of talk about their green chili so I wanted to try that but I totally wanted French toast so we split up some breakfasts and portions were generous but not overwhelmingly so. French toast was fluffy OG and their hashbrowns were mmmm. Eggs perfectly cooked to order. they brought a dish of the green chili and I put on eggs and potatoes and really was great. Unique and complex flavors. Cleanliness was good in the dining area, bathroom left a bit to be desired but reasonable. My aunt is on a walker and they're busy so she had a bit of a tough time navigating through the restaurant. But the white staff was great, in fact the service was excellent. read more

Swift's Kitchen is the greasy spoon I've been longing to live by. There's nothing more romantic than having a spot around the corner from your house, one where you can roll out of bed looking your worst, and being revived back to life by coffee and eggs. Well, at least in my opinion, man. It's old school, maybe a little too old. Cash only, torn leather booths, the colors brown and orange surrounding the restaurant. Admittedly there's something charming about it. I'm a big breakfast guy, and Swift's actually serves a "big breakfast" plate. Two eggs your way, bacon, sausage, hash browns and toast of your choosing. I'd recommend their Texas toast if you like thick and buttery bread! As far as the rest of the plate was concerned, the eggs were over cooked, the sausage was leathery, and the hash browns weren't seasoned. These are fairly easy fixes for the kitchen and ones that shouldn't be overlooked, although at a diner like Swift's you don't expect a gourmet meal. I mean, it's cheap breakfast food. Our tab was $15 for the two of us and we left with full bellies. Our server was friendly and refilled our coffees. I expect many more visits to Swift's in the foreseeable future. Who knows, maybe I'll even update my review after a few more go 'rounds. read more

Great mom-and-pop place!! Our service was so fast- and everything was hot and delicious!! We were all sooo happy with our food here!! Our server checked with us just the right amount, and would refill our drinks as soon as they were half empty!! We all ordered the "everything in it" omelet and it was terrific!! Food was great, but there's a tradeoff. Service was absolutely horrible. My wife and I waited 20 minutes for water and to put our order in. There was only one server there, definitely not the nicest person. Then the second server showed up, you can tell she didn't want to be there either. Asked twice for a refill on my water, never got it. Waited another 20 minutes for my bill and to pay. Slow service you sit with empty drinks for a long time. The food is extremely bland. Apparently in this particular business 6 or 7 tables is extremely busy. Although the diner it showing its age, the breakfast was fantastic for the price! Service was friendly and my coffee cup was always full. The steak and eggs are a must have. For a breakfast steak, it was tender and delicious. This old diner is a thumbs up in my book, but don't go in expecting linen tablecloth's or gourmet coffee's. read more

I've been to quite a few diners in town when my parents visit from NC who are avid biscuit eaters, we all agree theirs rank at the top! I also really enjoyed their green chile, just enough to make me sweat but not too hot that I couldn't enjoy it. The portions are huge as to be expected from a greasy spoon like this. Swift's is just what I expect from a 50 year old homey diner on West Colfax. Do they have a website? No. Do they accept credit/debit cards? No. Do they have good portions, cheap prices, and crispy bacon? Yes! I went in with zero expectations, which is probably why I was so pleasantly surprised. The boyfriend and I went right before noon on a weekend and it was packed. It got even more packed by the time we left, with about 3 groups of people waiting for one of the 20-ish tables to open up. You can tell they have a lot of long time regulars; the servers were greeting people by name. I got the Everybody's Favorite, which was smothered in green chili. It wasn't spicy but had several good chunks of pork in there, so I was pleased. The server kept my boyfriend's coffee cup full so he was pleased too. On a Wednnesday lunch, I saw moslty blue collar workers and gaggles of eldery chubby Spanish folks. The wobbly eldery servers offer a stoic steady rythmn. I really enjoy this place. Its got a truck stop breakfast feel to it but without the truckers who reek of cigarettes. The people in there could be characters in a cartoon series. The waitresses are generally very attentive and nice. Its hard to find a place like this that has excellent food for an excellent price. They actually don't really exist anymore. You can get steak and eggs for $5.50. It comes with hash browns and 2 pieces of toast. They have gyros as well which are excellent. You can get a full breakfast for $4. I have been going here for years and would drive out of the way to eat here. It is in a shady part of town so if that bothers you than I wouldn't go. You do get plenty of interesting characters walking in and out of there that may make you uncomfortable. They keep it old school and don't accept credit cards. Its not a dirty place but doesn't look that clean or nice either. So save yourself a trip if that turns you off. read more
