The service at this location is exceptional. Many members of the staff take special care to create relationships and positive interactions with regulars in particular. Especially outstanding in this regard are Rachel and Mallory who often run the counter area. They both make it a true pleasure to come sit and enjoy breakfast. It's just thick bacon covered with brown sugar sprinkled on top. $10 I ordered the corned beef eggs Benedict. Comes with 2 eggs and a side. Choose the tots. The eggs were clearly not traditional poached, but cooked in some sort of cup or even microwaved. The Hollandaise was water thin and had no flavor. The corned beef was not canned, but was shredded and in long strands stretched across both slices of muffin. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't very good. Meh. Wife ordered a single piece of French toast as a side. That was pretty good. Oh yeah... there's a 1% kitchen staff fee, and a 2% "restaurant impact service charge", and another Edgewater Improvement Fee. They don't mention that until you see the bill. We came. We tried. Stopped into Syrup in the Edgewater Public Market area. They are a semi new addition to the area and located on the right. This was the only place that I didn't check Yelp reviews first. Syrup reminds me of First Watch, but less affordable. It's def a cute place, with lots of seating as well as a full sized bar. The staff were great also, checking in on us often and with a smile. We ordered beignets to share and I had the jalapeño popper omelette. It should come with a choice of tater tots or seasoned diced potatoes, but this wasn't offered to me. If I weren't so immersed in conversation with my coworker, I would have caught this and potentially asked for a side salad instead. My bill might have hit 30 bucks though, which for an app and an omelette is steep. Maybe I'm thriftier than most, but wow. The food was good. I liked the creative omelette and the fluffy beignets, but I wasn't impressed with the cost nor the removal of my side option. My bill with tax and tip was almost $35. Insert sad face. Went here for brunch on a Saturday morning around 10am and there was no wait! Keep in mind they do not take reservations. The service was good as the server consistently checked up on us and answered questions as we had someone in our party with a gluten allergy. I got the remedy which is a potato skillet with green chili - I also couldn't resist getting a side of chocolate chip pancakes. The skillet was good, the only complaint was that the diced potatoes could be a little bigger. The pancakes were okay, they could've been more generous on the chocolate chips. Whoops. When our food arrived everything was lukewarm going on cold, so not sure why it took so long for us to get food that felt like it had been sitting around for 10 mins. No flavor in the corned beef hash, my English muffin was soggy, and my husband's eggs were super dense and hardly edible. It's easy to see why Syrup is a popular place to go for breakfast. They have a wide variety of options for everyone, and there's plenty of free parking in the lot next to the public market. Their most popular dishes are the Nutella stuffed French toast and chicken and waffles, which are great for people wanting a heavy & sweet breakfast. A good compromise and sharing complement is the combo of The Garden Omelet and The Remedy Classic. The Garden Omelet can be a little dry, and felt like it could be improved by the vegetables inside being cooked a little longer or adding a sauce. The Remedy was very liquid and had extra sauce. By putting The Remedy on top of the omelette, it was a perfect breakfast. The Remedy ($15) includes diced potatoes topped with chorizo, cheddar cheese, onion, roasted red pepper, avocado, 2 eggs any style (we requested over easy but they were more over-medium), and grilled jalapeño, smothered in pork green chili. The Brooklyn Omelet ($16) sounded good, with their award winning corned beef hash, but since we already had meat in The Remedy we went with The Garden. Waitstaff was laughing, joking visiting with each other while we stood waiting. A very young girl finally approached us and asked us if we needed a table. I can understand if this location isn't run by the same people as the flagship store, but did they change recipes as well? I was disappointed to find my "3 Little Pigs in a Blanket" have turned into "3 large pigs"! Which mean they now taste no different than regular pancakes and sausages. I remember the Cherry Creek Syrup served these with maple sausages that really did taste sweet, like maple. And the pancake that enveloped the sausages were not so doughy so as to not take the thunder of the sausages! My most favorite, signature cottage fries were replaced with tater tots that might as well have come from the frozen prepared foods isle. Can't hide my disappointment. Two waitresses, showed zero urgency, did not bring us waters until 10 minutes after having to request. Our food sat in the window in view for 10 minutes while the waitresses stood there chatting. I ordered the crunchy French toast and it was SOPPING in oil. Took one bite and it oozed with oil. I sent it back and the waitresses told me "it's deep fried so it's supposed to be like that"... in no way was that edible. This place has potential. Our food and mimosa pitcher was delicious...unfortunately we had a very poor experience with our server. She looked like she has attitude way before us. We got there and we got waters. She served our daughter water with ice. We asked for no ice. She gave attitude. Then she got our orders and didn't take our menus. Our table was cluttered. Then we ordered our mimosa pitcher. She served the drinks and lot of it spilled over on both drinks. We asked to get a new pitcher considering she spilled a lot. She gave us lip and said she'll talk to her manager. She came back and gave us a new pitcher and basically threw the pitcher on the table, didn't serve our drinks, and walked away with attitude. My service dog and I arrived to have breakfast at this location. There was a sign at the door welcoming service animals. After waiting to be seated in the nearly empty restaurant, a server approached stating they don't allow pets., I explained to her my dog is a service animal and she promptly rolled her eyes and scoffed as she grabbed the menus. Clearly I did not feel welcome at this establishment and we turned around and left. It is very discouraging to enter a hospitality establishment and to not even be greeted with a "good morning" or a "hello and welcome". Best Buffalo chicken wrap in town!! I love that it is made with ranch dressing versus blue cheese. I have only ever got it delivered through one of the apps but it's always packaged well. The wrap is never soggy to eat right then but if you want to eat half and save for later I highly recommend getting the sauces on the side.
