Bandeja paisa, beef empanadas, buñuelo
Wen Jin G.

so much more than just a bakery! in a sea of asian businesses, latin bakery has stood out and held its own. i've been coming here for years and have tried a bunch of things. some standouts: -beef empanadas: hot, crunchy, flavorful, a really nice snack. -buñuelos: a big round ball of spongy, sorta eggy bread on the inside, crunchy outer shell. it has a teeny tiny bit of sweetness and i really like pairing it with hot coffee. -oxtail stew: filled with yucca, potatoes, and tender oxtails, it's super hearty, flavorful, and oh-so-comforting. they also ask if you want cilantro in it. as a cilantro lover, i'm onboard of course. however, i kno some ppl has an aversion to cilantro and it's nice that they look out for them too. -bandeja paisa: the unofficial national dish of Colombia. holy moley, this is the textbook definition of "itis". it comes with steak, chorizo, chicharron, maduro (fried sweet plantain), avocado, arepa, fried egg, rice, and beans. there's sooooo much going on and everything is nicely seasoned. the portion size is huge and i can make 2-3 meals out of it. eat this and you'll need a nap afterwards lol. the staff doesn't speak much english but they are nice and do try hard to help you. i also saw it as a chance to brush off and practice my broken Spanish lol. when all else fails, just smile (or as much as you can through a mask) and point lol. a good neighborhood spot and highly recommended for sure!

Beef empanada

The lady behind the counter sold me this beef empanada, it was burned and the shell was cut up like this. I bought this for my child to eat. It was very hard, I ended up throwing it in the trash. Shame on this worker for knowingly selling me food like this.

The special of the day. $8.75 for such a large amount of food.

I've been coming to this place for the past ten years. It's good solid homemade Spanish food. Usually when I come here I always get El Especial del día (the special of the day), or I'll just stop by to pick up a few empanadas to satisfy my craving. I'm also in love with their coffee (hot or iced). Today the lunch/dinner special was Roast chicken on a bed of white rice and (my favorite) platano maduro/sweet plantain. You also get a small salad and a side of brown beans (they're not like my mothers Dominican habichuelas, but they're still very delicious over the white rice). In ten years I've never had a bad experience here. I recommend this place for anyone craving authentic Spanish food in the downtown flushing area. PS don't forget to ask for their spicy sauce, it goes great with anything and everything.

Bakery items.

Large selection of bakery items and other assorted items. Check out their menu. Great cup of coffee.

Alfajores

Their desserts are ON POINT! They probably have some of the best alfajores I've ever had in my entire life.

1/4 chicken, beans, plantain, salad. $6.15

Brian C and I needed a quick paleo friendly bite before a trip to the city. We passed by the sign "pollos" and "colombian" which caught our attention. The long line of latin locals that almost went out the door was the final push to make us go in. Though I was saddened by the realization that I cannot indulge on the displayed empanadas and fried cheese balls, I was satisfied with the chicken lunch special offer (1/4 roasted chicken, beans, salad, plantains and rice for $7.50. We didn't get rice and was charged $6.15 a pop). The chicken (leg) was very tender and the beans were good. The bf commented that the plantain was harder than he preferred but I didn't mind. The dish we both eyed, however, was the Sunday special oxtail soup that everyone else was slurping up, gnawing at the oxtail with no shame. We'll be back for that in a few weeks. Note: many people do take out or opt to eat inside (there are about ten tables)

Found this in my rice.

Simple bakery items are good. The prepared food is mediocre at best. Had the mofongo and it was overpriced and not very tasty.

Good food only be sure to tell the lady deliver for fresh chicken . The aji de gallina pretty good…read morethe como salteado good, the lunch special pretty good.courteous nice in the phone

I happened to be searching nearby for Peruvian food and came across Bravazo. While i thought it was…read morea new spot, this pkace hs been opened for a while. We decided to order a 1/2 of rotisserie Peruvian chicken- chicken only ($10). Ceviche clasico ($20) and a side order of plantains ($6) and a bottle of my favorite Peruvian beer cusqueña ($6). We sat down about 6:30pm, the restaurant was relatively empty, seems like ther take out business was moving. We kept noticing people just coming from the outside to use the restroom. Food service was very quick, we noticed the rotisserie chicken breast was a bit dry, the leg and tight seem moist. The tostones were perfectly fried, the ceviches was fine nothing special. The typical green sauce was set in the table and it paired well with the chicken, tostones and ceviche. Overall the menu seems difficult to understand prices. Menu has family meals, and meals that are protein only such as the chicken i ordered. But in my opinion this is confusing, maybe family meals work when you have 4 or more people but for 2, its too much food. Psrking was difficult, when the bill came, the tip is automatically added onto the bill, while i dont have a problem tipping, they should tell you that from the beginning and not just add it to the bill automatically. When the server gave me the bill, they had also made a mistake to charge me for tap water. I went to the counter and i asked why there was a$2 charge for water and they told me it was a mistakebut neither the server or the person ringing the bill caught it, until i told them. I definitely had better Peruvian food but as a last minute decision we ate here because we were visiting my family nearby. I normally goto to Long Island, Ocenaside to eat at Ananau, now this joint the service, ambiance and the food is definitely 5 star. Bravazo did not feel like s restaurant ambiance, felt like a take spot. Dont get me wrong, the server was very nice but i wouldn't come back. While my wife was washing her hands in the restroom, some guy off the street who was not a customer came in loud, and started to bang on the door of the restroom. Nobody in management or even the servers said anything to him, weird situation and what was more disturbing was that he was hanging out at the pizza place next door. During our dinner, i notice people from the pizza place where coming in to use the restrooms in the restaurant.-totally weird.
