Came here for lunch on a Friday at 11:45 am. Las Tortas Locas is part of a chain, and this location is located in a small strip mall with a big and free parking lot. This means that parking will always be available. When we arrived, only 5 tables were taken by customers already eating their meals. We ordered at the front counter, with an employee who was not friendly, whose job, apparently, was to just take customers' orders. I ordered the giant beef flautas (flautas gigantes de carne), and R ordered the two taco combo with beans and rice, getting carnitas in his tacos. We sat down at the table right next to the salsa bar, which had a hot red sauce, a spicy green sauce, a mild green sauce, onions, radishes and a mix of slimy carrots, onions and peppers that barely had any flavor or spice. We picked up our food at the pick up counter after one of the employees called out our order number. Overall, the food was ok. My two flautas were big, and were completely hidden by a mix of shredded lettuce, tomato, avocado, melted queso, and shredded cheese. I was disappointed that, after digging out the flautas from under the generous salad, the ends of the flautas were crispy, but the middle third of both of the flautas were not crispy at all and the shredded beef inside them was just warm. The flautas had a hint of flavor, and I dipped the flautas into red hot sauce before every bite. R said that his meal was also just ok. Meh.

The food was incredibly authentic and reminded me of home. I think the price of our meal made the night even better! Service was fast and employees were cleaning dirty tables as they become available.

The girl is not helping customers. She is constantly talking and texting on her phone and making another business deal with a customer. She needs to serve the customers not help out her friends for more than 1 hour. No service!!

My go-to spot for Tortas and tacos. Everything is made fresh and the meat is seasoned really well. The steak is always tender and the kitchen is very quick. The lot is never too packed so it usually easy to find a parking spot. Definitely reccomended for Mexican street food.

Inside. Pickup counter. Open kitchen. Lots of the meat on the griddle and a spit with al pastor meat (pork).

Las Tortas Locas is a local chain of Mexican restaurants specializing in tortas (Mexican sandwiches), tacos, burritos, and other Mexican food. Currently, there are eight locations in the Atlanta metro. This one is store #3 and it's located on Chamblee Tucker Road near Buford Highway. There's actually another Las Tortas Locas *on* Buford Highway near Clairmont Road. Don't get the two confused. At the time of writing this review, I've been to the Las Tortas Locas in Sandy Springs and this one. I've liked both. These are fast-casual restaurants with delicious food, quick service, and affordable prices. The restaurants are casual and no-frills. These places are authentic and in my experiences, both the staff and customers have been primarily Hispanic with Spanish as their primary language (so there might be a language barrier). This Las Tortas Locas has existed for least 10 years. It's located in an unassuming strip mall with a laundromat and a Vietnamese cafe. The restaurant is fairly spacious with seating for about 60 customers (guesstimate) at both tables and booths. There's an open kitchen, two registers, multiple TVs, and a salsa bar. There's really not much to the place. It's simple. The menu features over 25 different kinds of tortas priced at $5.45 to $6.49 each. In addition, there are tacos ($1.99 each), quesadillas ($4.95), burritos ($5.59), huaraches (tortillas topped with a variety of ingredients, $5.45), consome (soup, $2.09 or $3.75), flautas (rolled tortillas with fillings, $5.89), and sides ($1.59 to $4.49) like papas con queso (fries with melted cheese) and arroz y frijoles (rice and beans). There's an affordable lunch menu where everything is under $6. They serve Jarritos soda (Mexican brand soda) and various agua frescas (horchata, jamaica - hibiscus, tamarindo - tamarind, and mango; $1.59 to $2.25 each). There's a dessert case next to the registers with prepackaged items like gelatina, arroz con leche, pastel de tres leches, flan, and chocoflan. Desserts run roughly $2 to $3.50. Here's what I tried: * Torta Nortena ($6.49) - milanesa, queso chihuahua y queso fresco. (breaded steak, Chihuahua cheese and fresh white cheese) * Tacos ($1.99 each) - pastor (marinated spicy pork), carnitas (pork chunks), and chorizo (Mexican sausage) * Burrito bistec ($5.59) - grilled steak, onions, and cilantro * Queso fundido y chips ($4.49) - cheese dip and chips Overall, I thought the food was great. Everything was tasty. I enjoyed the Torta Nortena. It wasn't as massive as some tortas I'm used to seeing, but I appreciated that. Comparatively, this torta wasn't as huge, unmanageable, and messy to eat, yet it was still flavorful and filling enough. I thought all of the ingredients were on point, especially the bread which was subtly crispy on the outside and soft and scrumptious on the inside. Along with milanesa and cheese, this sandwich also came with lettuce, onion, tomato, and jalapeno inside. Yum. The tacos were terrific. Las Tortas Locas' tacos are served on double-layer corn tortillas with chopped white onion and cilantro. The savory pastor taco meat comes right off a spit which you can see spinning in the kitchen. The pastor taco I tried came with melted cheese and ripe pineapple. It was wonderful. The carnitas taco was perhaps the best I've ever had. I was impressed with not only the flavor, but the consistency of the meat. Oftentimes, carnitas can be dry and tough, but these chunks were quite moist and tender. As for the chorizo, it was very good too. One thing I really like about Las Tortas Locas' chorizo is it's not too greasy or oily and it still tastes good. The burrito was solid. It was packed with plenty of warm, succulent steak along with fresh, chopped onion and cilantro. The size of the burrito wasn't massive like the Mission-style burritos you might get at a Chipotle, Moe's, or Willy's and it wasn't small like the burritos Mexican restaurants serve on their combo plates. Instead, it was somewhere in between. The flour tortilla wrapping was soft and flaky. All in all, it was a pretty appetizing and satisfying burrito. I thought the queso fundido y chips was OK. The chips were harder, thicker, and more golden brown in color than the average tortilla chips (which was fine; I didn't mind them). The queso dip was alright. It wasn't bad, but also not very memorable. Nothing set it apart from other queso dips I've had. Its consistency was a bit on the thicker side. The self-serve salsa bar had seven different sauces/salsas on ice plus six other condiments like radishes, pickled jalapenos and carrots, lime, and sliced cucumbers. All of the items on the salsa bar seemed fresh. Service was speedy. All of the employees were uniformed and numbers were called on a microphone-speaker system when orders were ready for pick-up at the counter. The men's restroom was clean and the dining room was clean enough though some of the tables did feel a little sticky.

I have been to the Las Tortas Locas on Beaver Ruin Road in Norcross numerous times and enjoyed it, so I was excited to try this location. The layout is similar to the Norcross location: open and spacious with ample table and booth seating. The space is clean. I came here for a UYE and it accommodated all 19 of us comfortably. This has a bigger parking lot than the Norcross location. I don't see parking being an issue. Las Tortas Locas is a counter service restaurant. After you place your order at the counter, you are assigned a number for your order. You may pick up your food from the pick-up window near the kitchen when they call your order number. I ordered the following: 1 Asada taco 1 Pastor taco 1 Chorizo taco My total was under $7! Even though they are famous for their tortas, I actually have not tried the tortas. I always get their tacos. The tacos are delicious and authentic. The portions are great especially for the price. I like the asada and pastor the best, minus the pineapples. There is a salsa bar available with a nice variety of salsa and toppings. The green salsa is my favorite. It pairs well with most of the tacos. Of all the items I've tried, the only one I didn't enjoy was their tres leches cake. It was missing something. Service was fast and friendly.

Las Tortas Locas is my PREFERRED location for Mexican food. With 9 total locations in Atlanta, finding one near you shouldn't be too complicated. Atmosphere: There's nothing special about the inside. There are a good bit tables for you to eat at, but other than that, that's about it. You don't come here for the atmosphere, though. The later it is, the more people will be there, since they're one of the few restaurants still open in the surrounding area at that time. Food: Once you order and your food is ready, they'll call your order number printed on the receipt. Brush up on your Spanish if you're not good with numbers. You might miss your order being called. I've been here possibly 4 or 5 times and I ALWAYS manage to order the same thing. The Texana with French fries. The Texana is cooked with grilled steak, bacon, bell pepper and cheese. Obviously, it's THAT GOOD if that's the only thing that I've ordered. The steak is flavorful, tender, gives off enough "juice" that you don't really need any condiments to add to it--The only issue with the tortas is that the meat used doesn't equal the amount of bread there is. I threw the remaining bread away, because there was no meat left on the sandwich. If you order a torta, I highly recommend the fries. They're thick-cut and crispy. Overall, you MUST visit Las Tortas Locas. Extremely good Mexican food!

While in the Atlanta area and looking for some authentic quick Mexican food, we came across Las Tortas Locas. We tried to call in a order to pick up, but the young lady who answered the phone "no habla inglés". We knew we found the right place and drove over to try our high school "espanol" to order in person. The restaurant was busy compared to nearby competitors, so another good sign. A simple walk to the counter and order then wait for your food to dine in or take to go. Bright, clean, and inviting, even if we didn't appear to fit in with the majority of customers. We tried a couple of barbacoa tacos, chicken enchiladas, and steak huaraches. We gathered a variety of salsas from the salsa bar, which did not have any labels. Some of the light green sauce was surprisingly spicy, while the deep red with visible seeds was mild and flavorful. Everything was so delicious, we will definitely be taking out from this gem again in the future.

One day, I was feeling tacos, but not the type of tacos that I could get at a Taco Bell, or the type of tacos I could get from some Tex-Mex joint that would inevitably come with a bucket full of chips and salsa that I'd obliterate my appetite with. Nor any artisanal tacos that came from a restaurant that claimed to have "an executive chef" and served with any sort of slaw on top of it. Nah man, I wanted some salt-of-the-earth tacos, the type that you can most really only find on Buford Highway. While cruising down Buford Hwy, I actually failed to remember the name of the place I had in mind (El Rey). But I figured it wouldn't be that difficult to find somewhere else to get my tacos. I pulled into Taco Veloz, but since they have like 8 parking space, they were slam packed, so I pulled my car right back out of Taco Veloz and kept driving. I pulled up to the intersection of Chamblee-Tucker, and then I saw the sign for Las Tortas Locas; and just like that, the craving for tacos was gone, and I wanted a torta. The type of torta that hot pressed, and served bursting at the seams with meats and cheeses and peppers. This particular Las Tortas Locas (there appears to be several), is at the corner of Buford Hwy and Chamblee-Tucker. It's easy to get to off of both I-285 as well as I-85, as both cross streets have their own exits off of the highway. They're in a pretty discreet shopping center that's obviously predominantly Hispanic, on the ground level of multi-tier building. There's plenty of parking, but going at night, I'd probably park where it's lit; the amounts of shattered glass shards in the lot probably means there's a theft problem at dark. Entering, they have a giant menu of tortas, as well as tacos, if I were still hankering for them, but I switched gears and wanted a torta. English is very much a second language inside these walls, but when it comes to business, a high school level of Spanish, pointing at a menu and currency is all the language anyone needs. (Cashier actually spoke perfectly fine English, but I can't say the same for anyone else in the entire establishement) I ordered a Texana torta which had steak, bacon, peppers and cheese, and awaited my order. Numbers are read off in Spanish, so once again my rudimentary knowledge of high school Spanish came in handy so I could actually know when #72 was called. As hoped, this torta was a large brick of a sandwich that was easily larger than my hand and bursting with steak, bacon, cheese and pepper. It tasted every bit as good as it looked, and in an extremely short amount of time, it was completely devoured. As a good torta should be, it was a little messy, and required no less than two napkins to keep somewhat clean while eating it. And the best part was that it was barely $7 for this satisfying hunk of sandwich. I'm sure drinks or any sides would have brought the meal up closer to $10, but I just wanted the torta and nothing else. As far as I'm concerned, I see no reason to dock this place for anything. I'm sure others might not like the feeling of security in the parking lot or the lack of English speaking available inside, but none of that is important to me. All I know is that I got an extremely good sandwich at a very good price point, and if I'm ever in the mood for a torta again, this place stands high on my list of go-to joints.

Another discovery thanks to Yelp - this place has tortas (of course), tacos (but no fish), quesadillas, burritos, and lunch specials ($4.75-5.75). You order at the front, and they will call you when your food is ready. Cashier speaks English but the cooks do not -- I tried to ask for cilantro but they didn't understand me :) Restaurant looks very clean, employees are nice, they have a great salsa bar (the creamy spicy avocado salsa is my favorite), prices are in the $4-7 range, and the food is good. I was the only non-Mexican customer for both my visits so I guess that's a good sign too :) MILANESA TORTAS - $5.50 Breaded meat, avocado, cheese, lettuce, and tomato. Very tasty sandwich although a little overwhelmed by the bread. I'd still get it again. TACO COMBO LUNCH SPECIAL - $4.75 Includes two tacos, charbroiled chicken or steak (both good), double layer corn tortillas (authentic & fresh), but sadly Gringo-style w/ shredded iceberg and cheese ... if you're non-Mexican and you want chopped onions & cilantro, you probably have to ask for it. The combo also came w/ Mexican rice and black beans (both ok and rather small portion). CHIPS & SALSA - $2.50 Sadly not complimentary but you do get a nice tub of salsa which I ended up taking home. HORCHATA - $1.75 Very good. If you haven't had Horchata before, don't miss out. I'll definitely be back. I just wish they served fish tacos too. FYI - they're located in the strip mall just behind Penang.

Menu is extensive which could make it difficult to choose from so many dishes. Chips and salsa were brought almost immediately with a medium level of spice. The waiter asked if we wanted the habanero salsa. I took one tiny taste and it definitely was spicy! I decided to get the Enchiladas Suizas combination plate (with rice, green beans and pico de gallo). There were 2 enchiladas with shredded chicken, smothered in a sauce with lots of Mexican cheese on top. The meat was tender. My friend ordered a 1/2 order of the Nachos supreme with ground beef. The waiter and my friend said that the regular order of Nachos was huge! They weren't kidding! Our waiter was attentive, checking to make sure things were good and if we needed refills on our drinks or anything else we might need. Found out the salsa is home made, which is a good thing! There is patio seating available, tables in the bar area and regular booths and tables in the main dining area.
