I had a craving from menudo and you can pretty much only get it on the weekends. For 13 bucks the portion was pretty large. I really don't have anything else to compare it with because this is the first time I've had it at a restaurant. I get why it's a great hangover food. It's fatty and warm. It was cold out. I still prefer creamier or thicker soups though. This place was busy during lunch. Parking was fine but the complex is busy so it's difficult to turn left out of it. I didn't realize how much El Taco veloz has expanded. Would I come here again? Maybe. The other one half a mile away may have smaller seating but it has a charm to it. read more

So I happen to stumble across this place and you would never really know it was there It gives kind of a hole in the wall kinda vibe (which isn't a bad thing). It's in a strip mall that's kind of tucked away. As soon as you come in, they have all of the menu items with pictures so it's really helpful to know what you want. There is a sitting area if you want to dine in but I did carry out. I came in and needed explanation for some of the translations on the menu, and they were very helpful. The service was fast, and everybody wore a mask. It was 7:30 in the morning so I feel like it probably wasn't going to be crowded anyway! The Shrimp taco was pretty good. I felt like there could have been more shrimp in there, but since the tacos are already so small in size, you can only fit so much. They had a pretty good flavor. Carnita /pork tacos were okay, but for those you actually needed to have the sauce. They weren't as flavorful and they were a little dryer so the sauces were necessary for it. The Carne asada taco and burrito were decent. You also needed the sauce, it went well with the green sauce. It had flavor, but not enough to carry it without a little extra. I would get the taco again. The Chorizo taco had a lot of flavor, and was pretty spicy. You didn't actually need any sauce for it. It was good on his own! Solid choice. read more

I noticed this El Taco Veloz just off of Chamblee Dunwoody Rd when I was driving by, so I decided to check it out and eat in during mid-October at about 1:30 pm on a weekday. At that time, parking was very easy to find, even though El Taco Veloz is located in a busy shopping center. Parking is available at all neighboring storefronts, and parking is free. I found a spot in front of El Taco Veloz and walked in. It wasn't busy when I walked in. Customers were eating at three tables, and two people were ahead of me at the order counter. This is a restaurant where customers order at the order counter, sit at a table of their choice and pick up their food at the order counter when their order number is called out. The menu is busy, but is separated by categories, such as Desayuno (breakfast), Tortas (sandwiches), Quesadillas, Tacos, Burritos, Especiales (specials), Sides and Bebidas/Postres (drinks and desserts). I ordered flautas, fried corn tortillas with chicken in them. The young woman taking orders at the counter just looked at me. I told her again that I wanted the flautas. She looked confused, so it was obvious that she didn't know that flautas were on the menu. She asked me in Spanish, "What?" I told her again that I wanted flautas. She told me in Spanish, "Just one moment," and hurried to get someone to help me. She came back with another woman, who asked me in English, "Can I help you?" I told her, "Yes, I'd like to order flautas." She looked at me, also obviously confused. I was annoyed at this point, and told her, "I want the flautas, they're on the menu!," while pointing at the menu where FLAUTAS was written. She looked, and asked me, "Where?" Omg ... ! I said, "Flautas, right over there ... the taquitos." Her bewilderment quickly disappeared after I said taquitos, and she said, "Oh, taquitos!" Smh - neither one of them knew that flautas were on the menu! I also ordered a bottle of lime Jarritos, telling her, "Lima." I waited at a table for about 10 minutes, and then my number was called out, so I picked up my food at the pick up counter, then ladled out a couple small cups worth of red hot sauce before I went back to my table. The food was nice and hot!. The flautas were crispy on the outside and the chicken inside was still moist and not dried out. The rice and beans that came with the flautas were delicious. The small salad was ok; the onions just overpowered the flavor of the shredded lettuce. I dipped the flautas in the red hot sauce with every bite; the hot sauce was very spicy! The lime Jarritos helped to put out the fire in my mouth! As I was finishing my meal, I took the time to notice how not so clean this restaurant was, and saw that this place was not maintained well. The walls were patched up where holes used to me. Tables weren't being cleaned after customers left. Ceiling panels had obvious water damage, and a couple of ceiling panels were missing. It looked like there may have been black mold on the panels. The food and drink were delicious and priced well. Everything else I experienced was not good. It was clear to me that after almost cutting off my finger while meal prepping and spilling the entire cup of water I just filled to help my oncoming migraine, I probably needed a break. I decided to order dinner through Uber Eats a few weeks back while waiting for my pot roast to cook at home in the slow cooker. This place popped up in my Uber Eats suggestions as one of the top picks. I was warned by the app that delivery times would be long that Friday night as lots of people were ordering and the number of couriers was low in certain areas. I really didn't want to leave the house with my migraine, so I agreed to it and waited patiently for my order from here. After about 1-2 hours my order was processed and delivered finally. Luckily, the restaurant was nice enough to make my order fresh once a courier was near or at least reheated it for me as it was warm upon delivery. I appreciated that either way. I ordered the shredded beef (barbacoa) plate and a chicken tamale on the side. The listing for the chicken tamale is listed in plural as "tamales," so I thought I would be getting at least two, but it turned out it was only one. However, the single chicken tamale was very good at least - my favorite part of the meal. It has a good ratio of meat to masa and good flavor. This is something I would get again from here. The shredded beef on the other hand was not my favorite. It was very greasy, fatty, and gristly! The fat wasn't the nice buttery kind either but very stringy - the kind that gets stuck in your throat. It just was not my favorite thing. The rice, tortillas, and beans that came with it were good but standard. It was good to not have to wait for my pot roast all night just to eat, but I'm not really planning on ordering from this location again. If I do, I wouldn't get the shredded beef again and might give their original location on Buford Highway a try instead. El Taco Veloz has the best tacos and burritos that I've found outside of a Mercado. I've been to several locations with Buford being the best. Went to Chamblee last week. They never have the avocado salsa and the burrito was tiny. Came to the Doraville location today and the same thing. It was a cute little disappointing burrito. Cmon Taco Veloz. A lot of Yelpers know about the original El Taco Veloz shack on Buford Highway, but how many have come to eat here? El Taco Veloz 9 serves the same authentic and inexpensive Mexican cuisine just around the corner and there's air conditioning, booth seating, TVs, and a salsa bar inside! I came here for last night's UYE (http://www.yelp.com/events/atlanta-buford-highway-uye-el-taco-veloz) with eight other Yelpers. El Taco Veloz 9 is located in small shopping complex on Chamblee Dunwoody Rd. in between New Peachtree Rd. (where Chinatown is) and Buford Highway. This neighborhood is heavily Hispanic. The parking lot is very tight, so be careful when maneuvering for a spot. There are several other small shops and businesses in this plaza and it sees its fair share of automobile and pedestrian traffic. You order at the counter and wait for your order to be called. The food comes out quick. Menus are posted on the wall behind the register and pictures of select dishes are taped to the counter. Everything is pretty inexpensive and the restaurant serves just about every typical Mexican dish. Since there were a lot of us, I was able to try many things. Here's a rundown of what I tried: Chips, cheese dip, and green salsa Lengua (beef tongue) taco Chile releno (cheese stuffed pepper) taco Chorizo (pork sausage) taco Torta carne asada - Mexican charbroiled steak sandwich Churros - Spanish doughnut Flan Overall, everything was good. El Taco Veloz's cheese dip has bits of jalapenos in it, so if you bite into them, it can get spicy. I really like their green house salsa. It's got plenty of fresh cilantro in it and is spicy as well. Yum. Of the three tacos I tried, I enjoyed the chorizo the best. It consisted of ground pork sausage and was very flavorful. A bit salty, though. All of El Taco Veloz's tacos are served with onions, cilantro, and green salsa inside two pieces of soft flour tortilla. You can also get corn tortillas instead if you want. The lengua taco wasn't bad either. The tongue was very tender. I've had chile releno before, but not in taco form. It was pretty much a miniature chile releno topped with green salsa and wrapped inside soft flour tortilla shells. The torta (Mexican sandwich) was pretty awesome and probably my favorite dish of the night. The entire sandwich was well put together and the bread was delicious. In addition to the savory steak, the sandwich was loaded with onion, lettuce, tomato, fresh avocado, cheese, mayo, and refried beans. I'll be ordering another torta on my next visit. The churros, sprinkled with sugar, were crispy and sweet. The flan was pre-packaged flan, but still very good. If you want a small dessert with your meal here, I recommend both. I left the restaurant completely stuffed. Two tacos is plenty here. If you're really hungry, order three. Some of the food here, particularly the tacos and burritos, can be messy to eat because of all the sauces spilling out. You might want to grab some silverware and extra napkins. El Taco Veloz has all the things that I look for in an authentic taco place. It is extremely tasty while being extremely affordable (all of the tacos are less than $3!). My go-to taco is the Lengua (beef tongue) taco, which is extremely tender and tasty. During my last visit I also got the Barbacoa and Carne Asada tacos which were equally as delicious. You essentially can't go wrong with any of the tacos. Each taco is served on two corn tortillas with onions and cilantro- you can ask for any additional red/green sauce to add on top. In addition to the tasty tacos and cheap prices, they are very quick with making the orders. This particular location is located in a little plaza, so there are plenty of parking spots- it just may be a little bit of a tight squeeze getting out of a space. When people ask me where to get tacos in ATL, I always tell them Taco Veloz is one of my favorite places. Truly an authentic experience! read more

Admittedly it's rather difficult to get in and out of this parking lot, and the complex looks run-down. If you dare to brave these superficialities, then you'll be rewarded with an excellent taco eating experience. You can tell its a favorite dining spot within the Hispanic community, telling me that the recipes hit close to home for them. The barbacoa is flavorful & tender, especially if you pair it with whatever they call the white salsa (I didn't ask, as we were in a rush), which tasted like a corn and pepper purée. The carnitas tacos actually have crispy shredded pork, unlike some other taco stands. Unfortunately, the al pastor didn't have pineapple bits like I'mused to, but it is still very good, nonetheless. The tables are cleaned right after each party finishes their meal, though the floors and ceilings don't appear to be...personally, it doesn't bother me, because I'm not eating food from either of those places. All in all, if you aren't put off by the appearances, then this is a great option for a delicious, budget friendly meal (about $20 for 6 tacos and drinks). read more

I'm a sucker for a good & legit barbacoa taco...It should be full of what I like to call 'meat butter'. Tender, melt in your mouth beef...This spot definitely fits the bill! I like that they start their tacos with two corn tortillas (1 just makes a big ole' mess) and the barbacoa...oh let me tell ya'....so delicious! Flavorful, tender and it just makes your whole body happy! To me, tacos are a food that just make you happy...imagine eating a taco in a bad mood...you can't can you? 3 barbacoa tacos was extremely filling (the do not skimp on the inner workings of said amazing taco) and their in house salsas are so delish! Unseasoned pure garbage. This is not Mexican. I could have gotten much better Mexican fare from Taco Bell which says everything you need to know. Then I ordered via Doordash which has given this place a very high score but clearly people are lying or have very low expectations. I ordered chicken nachos and a taco. It was full of bland canned retried beans, a very thin dried out layer of shredded quesadilla cheese, dry tasteless chicken and awkwardly cut onion slices. The taco was on a corn tortilla so it completely fell apart by the time I had received. It featured the same paper tasting chicken from the nachos. I wouldn't eat here even if i was paid to. If you like authentic Mexican food, this is a great place. Many of the workers speak English as a second language (at best), so you may need some patience with the translation. That never bothers me in the least (here or elsewhere) though. I also like that they have pictures of the food items on the menu. Ha - my original plan was to check out the new Shoya Izakaya that everyone's been raving about - but they're closed on Mondays! So guess where we went instead? El Taco Veloz - clearly as far away as you can get in terms of ambience, food, & price. But it satisfied :) I'd just read Todd P's newly posted reviews before picking up my friend for dinner, so his "El Taco Veloz 9" review was top-of-mind when I needed a back-up plan. I'm glad my friend was flexible :) Ambience is definitely fast food joint - there is seating, too (unlike the Buford Hwy taco stand location). Food & prices - even better than fast food. They had tacos from $.99-1.85. I got the pollo for $.99 and the Barbacoa for $1.69. Tacos are served with onions, cilantro, & salsa verde, and wrapped in double corn tortilla. Tacos were spicy & had lots of flavor - I liked the chicken better but the Barbacoa was pretty good, too. I also ordered chips & salsa for $1.50 - I was hoping for red salsa but got the salsa verde instead. Salsa was extremely spicy - I asked our server if I could get something slightly less spicy. She directed me to the salsa bar which had the red salsa, the salsa verde, tomatillo salsa, pico de gallo, onions, cilantro, limes, etc. Ha - all the salsas were extremely spicy :) The chips were ok - just made & so hot I could barely hold them. Damn, do I feel like an idiot. There I was, freezing my butt off all winter at their BuHi location, when this location - which is all indoor seating - is just minutes down the street! Quick, authentic Mexican food for cheap - and their super nachos - best nachos in Atlanta! Possibly the world. These locations have the same menu, with the exception of their daily specials, potentially. Speaking of their specials, for this visit, I strayed from my typical order and went for one of their taco specials, it was the "Taco de Tortillitas De Camarones". Side note: One of the few words in Spanish I know is camarones for shrimp. A shrimp taco sounded perfect, but after I ordered, the boyfriend informed me that what I had ordered was a "shrimp cake" taco. Hmmm...I do enjoy crab cakes and various Asian seafood pancakes, so I thought there was still a chance I would enjoy it....turns out, eh, it was okay. I ordered quesadillas in the drive-thru and there was a hair in one of the pieces, medium in length. It grossed me out so much that I threw up. Absolutely disgusting. They need to wear hairnets. I don't have any hair longer than a half inch so I know it didn't come from me or my place and it was cooked into the quesadilla melted into the cheese. Only reason I saw it was because I was putting Tapatio (hot sauce) on them when I got home. Inspect your food. They need to fix this ASAP. They need more training in food safety and handling in addition to customer service. Some employees just hand you food and don't say anything and don't know how to communicate (in English nor Spanish). The ambiance did not feel like I was an appreciated customer neither nor did it seem clean they touch everything with bare hands and don't wear gloves. They bring food out, open doors, go back to the kitchen, touch things, then bring food to others with no regard for hygiene or health. This place is located in a small shopping complex off Chamblee Dunwoody. It could be easy to miss, but that would be a mistake. El Taco Veloz has some of the best tacos I have ever eaten. The chicken was phenomenal - it was hot, flavorful, and the tortillas were spectacular. I could have eaten ten of them, and I'm not prone to exaggeration. I also had a carne asada taco, and though not quite as good as the chicken, was in a league of its own. I'm going to go back and try the rest soon. I'm not kidding, I could have sat there eating them all night. The location has indoor seating and the workers are friendly. My girlfriend dusted off her Spanish skills and, to her delight, received a Spanish reply and had a good conversation with the young woman at the counter. Pretty good Mexican. Authentic. The flavors were really good. I ordered the chorizo tacos. Really tasty, except for the fact that it was not made with love. It was wet and the hot sauce was not evenly distributed throughout the taco. Don't get me wrong, I love me some spicy, but for every job, have some pride man. The decor...needs a little work. The menu board has items written on paper and pasted over old items. There are a bunch of laminated pictures taped to the counter where you order. You can see into the stock area and i betcha food services took a point or two away for the crappy lighting. Having said that, the place was fairly clean, bathrooms were clean. El Taco Veloz is a Mexican taqueria located in "Chamblee Commerce Plaza" at 3245 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd., between Buford Hwy. & PT Industrial.... Food: I ordered the following: Huevos Divorciados - (two eggs, fried, served on top of ham and corn tortillas, one egg topped with a red salsa and the other topped with a green salsa, served with refried beans, Spanish rice and corn tortillas) - This dish was OK, 2 1/2 stars, I'd say... Albeit the eggs were cooked a bit too long and were a bit rubbery as a result - but the salsa and ham offset this to some degree. Also, the frijoles refritos (refried beans) were bland and had a thin consistency. Carnitas Taco - (pork cooked in lard and spices - served in double maiz (corn) tortillas & then wrapped in aluminum foil) - the pork itself was tough and the corn tortillas were soggy - as a result of being wrapped up in the foil. Al Pastor Taco - (pork and other meats, spiced and roasted on a spit, also served in double corn tortillas and then wrapped in aluminum foil) - like the carnitas, the pork, etc was on the chewy side, and the tacos were soggy due to being wrapped up in aluminum foil. Service: Order at the counter and they bring it out to you. Atmosphere: First, about the surrounding area.... Not since having lived in Central Phoenix a few years back have I seen anything like this plaza or surrounding area.... If there is a "Little Mexico" in Atlanta, THIS IS IT! The food was average to subpar and the atmosphere of the surrounding area had me watching my wallet & car constantly, making sure someone wasn't about to lift my laptop or worse... I give this place a 3.5. El Taco Veloz 9 is sort of hidden from Chamblee-Dunwoody Rd. It's the kind of place where you order at the counter and they bring the food to you. FOOD: Their tacos come with hot sauce, cilantro, and onions. I had the steak and beef (Barbacoa) tacos without the hot sauce and cilantro. The steak taco had bits of dried steak which I added salsa, but still not good. The beef was tasty by itself. Their salsa station had 4 different types of salsa which were all spicy. Came back to Veloz several days later for a weekday breakfast of huevos rancheros, beans, rice, and extra tortillas. Very good food at an extremely low price (must've gotten the 50% off deal another reviewer mentioned). Back on the weekend at dinner time for tacos. I had a shrimp, a chorizo, and a pastor, pretty much pure Mexican-style. All were very good. So far I can't find anything not to like about this funky little taqueria. It's humble, it's honest, and it's good. Yep, the parking situation is small and narrow, and on the weekend evening it was very crowded and busy with both cars and pedestrians. Decent Food, Good Prices, Quick. I naturally compare El Taco Veloz to the other nearby quick-service restaurants, Las Tortas Locas and Don Pedro. I visited all three within a couple weeks and LTL is, by far, the best. El Taco Veloz is a solid second, Don Pedro is a distant third. El Taco Veloz has the best service and corn tortillas of the three. I got three tacos, pastor, chile relleno, and chorizo, and an order of rice and beans. The great - The service here was great. The lady at the counter was friendly and efficient. Their corn tortillas are excellent. The beans (refried) were very creamy and flavorful. The rice was solid. The good- The prices are good. The chorizo taco was good. It was very greasy, but I can't call that a fault because good chorizo should be greasy. The bad- The pastor was just ok. It didn't have any good seared crispy parts, it seemed more steamed than grilled. Only one salsa option for to-go. It was a fiery red arbol chile sauce. It was very loud inside. Some piece of machinery was making a very loud buzzing noise. Also, the TV was turned WAY up. Either to cover the noise or so it could be heard over it. I practically had to yell at the cashier to get my order in. The ugly- The chile relleno taco was inedible. I don't know what was going on with it. But it was so hard and dry I couldn't bite through it. I ended up throwing out the chile relleno part and eating the tortilla with beans and salsa. I might go back, they have some interesting options on the menu, the burrito especial might be worth a try. But Las Tortas Locas is better overall. read more

This isnt your standard mexican food in Atlanta, its better, much much better. If you are after real Mexican food come here. You know you're in a good place if any of the following are present: 1. little to no english is spoken 2. no other non-latino people are there 3. Mexican wrestling is on the TV All three were present here. I ordered a carne asada burrito with chips and salsa. My wife ordered a super nacho. Both were really great. The burrito was big and full of steak. The nachos were plenty good but I was more happy with the burrito, Also the queso was one of the best parts. I know its not authentic but it was great with the fresh made chips. I will go back here next time I crave great Mexican food. read more

Real, genuine off the charts Mexican food! We are often the only gringos in the restaurant. The service is excellent, the restaurant clean and the food is mouth watering and generous. I highly recommend the steak nachos but everything is very very good. read more

Ordered a steak quesadilla and it was pretty good! The person at the counter spoke English. Prices were good and they have a nice little sauce bar with fresh cilantro at the end of the counter. read more

I came here a couple of days ago with my daughter for dinner. I've passed by this place before and wanted to try it out, and I'm so glad we did. I love that their menu have quite a variety of items. They have a great sauce bar too with some that I haven't seen before. We were greeted with a smile and had our order taken by a very nice lady. This is a casual spot. You place your order and wait for your number to be called. My daughter ordered the steak quesadilla, and I ordered the flautas. Her quesadilla was loaded with meat and cheese which we appreciate. We've been to places where they were a bit stingy on their meat. Their flautas had only one option which was chicken, and it came with rice and refried beans. It tasted great, but the chicken was a bit dry. We also ordered horchata. I like that theirs is not overly sweet. There are a lot of other items I would like to try on their menu, so I will definitely be back. read more

Just wasnt as good as other authentic Mexican places I've been to. For example, I threw away the barbacoa taco b/c it was nothing but a string of fat/lining with lil to no meat on it. The chile relleno breading was subpar- almost donut like. I did enjoy the chorizo and queso tacos and the green chunky salsa was very tasty! Other plus- they sell Mexican Coke...its so much tastier and made with real cane sugar not that terribly silly corn fructose syrup nonsense. read more
