They have quickly become my favorite place to get Mexican food. Let's get into it! Location and Parking They are located on Buford Highway in a small shopping plaza. The lot is medium sized, but they are sharing it with a few other businesses, and depending on the night it could definitely be hard to find a spot so keep that in mind. Venue and Atmosphere The venue is decently sized with both booths and regular tables. There are beautiful paintings hung all over, and the decorations that make you feel like you've stepped into a little part of Mexico. Atmosphere is super casual and comfortable. Food and drinks Now the menu here is massive. Take your time and prepare to be overwhelmed, because everything sounds amazing. Here's a breakdown of what we got each time. 1st visit - El Rey Del Taco Parrillada It's meant to be shared with two people, and comes with a pound of beef ribs, your choice of chicken or al pastor meat, six shrimp wrapped in bacon, with melted cheese and chorizo, plus tortillas and charro beans. It was just as delicious as it sounds. 2nd visit - Tacos The pastor con queso and the shrimp al pastor with cheese, onions, and al pastor sauce. You're welcome. 3rd visit - Fajitas Fajitas Texanas, with steak chicken and shrimp. There are 7 different combinations of sides that you can get. We got white rice, salad, and charro beans. This can also be shared, which my wife and I did. Speaking of the charro beans, they have the best beans I have ever had. For drinks I got the supreme regular mango margarita. My wife got strawberry. Both great. Service Food came out fast, but other than that the service was a little slow. Our waitress was nice, but it did seem that she forgot about us for a little while. The food was so good that I forgave it, plus at the end of the day I got everything I needed. Verdict If you're looking for amazing food and drinks, this is absolutely the place to get it. It just might end up being your favorite too! Until next time!

If I'm paying $19, I expect a flawless burrito. I was also confused as to why the menu labeled the item as langostino. It was a normal shrimp and quite deceptive to call it langostino (which translates to langoustine from Spanish). For the record, for a $19 burrito, I only received 3 "langostino" or "giant shrimp" which really was just a regular shrimp nestled in semi-cooked rice and bean. I did get 2 thin slices of avocado. The tacos taquero de bonemarrow was a simple taco with a side of bone marrow. For $28, I'd expect something with more substance and frankly, a little more seasoning. Tacos were quite bland and I luckily had a packet of salt in the car. The bone marrow was nice, but I wouldn't consider 4 small tacos and 1 bone marrow to be equivalent to $28. I saw good reviews online and wanted to try this place out to see Mexican food outside of CA. This place is mediocre and I'm certain there are other better places one can venture to in Atlanta. Service was okay. I called for takeout and paid in advance for my order. Parking is in an apartment complex building (maybe?) and you do have to walk out to find the store.

The food was plentiful, flavorful, and well-seasoned, making for a satisfying meal. Beyond the great food, the customer service was excellent, and the pricing was very affordable. Their menu is quite extensive, so I'm looking forward to returning and trying more dishes. Definitely a spot worth visiting!

Blending Mexican, regional American, and other Latino cultures as early as the 70s, many of the metro restaurants are some of the first Mexican restaurants to open in their respective ATL bubbles. All restaurants are known for their fajitas, margaritas, and use of fresh ingredients. Over the decades, I have regularly frequented the Doraville location (on Buford Highway right inside of the perimeter). It is one of my go-to spots for celebrating, reconnecting, venting, and exhaling. I've laughed, argued, and cried sitting in one of the back right booths. Service is on par for a casual restaurant. If you drink, plan on spending a couple of hours. Their margaritas, sangrias, and sangritas are not for the once-in-a-blue-moon drinker. Over the years, I've developed a sensitivity to triple sec that keeps me from drinking non-craft margaritas. Fortunately, there are other tasty beverages on the menu. Monterrey has lunch specials that carry into the weekend. My go-to order is the fajitas. I also enjoy their enchiladas, chicken tacos, and chimichangas. I can eat 2 bowls of chips by myself with their amazing salsa and queso dips (I love mine with jalapeños and chorizo, but my order depends on who I am with).

Menu is extensive which could make it difficult to choose from so many dishes. Chips and salsa were brought almost immediately with a medium level of spice. The waiter asked if we wanted the habanero salsa. I took one tiny taste and it definitely was spicy! I decided to get the Enchiladas Suizas combination plate (with rice, green beans and pico de gallo). There were 2 enchiladas with shredded chicken, smothered in a sauce with lots of Mexican cheese on top. The meat was tender. My friend ordered a 1/2 order of the Nachos supreme with ground beef. The waiter and my friend said that the regular order of Nachos was huge! They weren't kidding! Our waiter was attentive, checking to make sure things were good and if we needed refills on our drinks or anything else we might need. Found out the salsa is home made, which is a good thing! There is patio seating available, tables in the bar area and regular booths and tables in the main dining area. The music was lively but not so loud that you can't carry on a conversation Apparently, there are several other locations, but this one was convenient for me while I'm in Dunwoody. Will go again!

Maybe it's the spring weather, maybe it's the tequila, or maybe it's the fact they serve them in what look like 16th-century terracotta pots pulled from a shipwreck... but those drinks hit different. Two in and you're contemplating starting a band. Three in, you're planning your next visit before the check lands. 10/10 would sip from ancient pottery again.
