My husband and I weren't too impressed this time dining in. We've ordered take out many times and it seemed the food is better togo. I only order the Costillas (grilled short beef ribs) or Chuletas De Puerco (grilled pork chops) always with double rice. The grilled plates have great flavor, but since it's served on a cast iron it's super hot and dries out the meat. I still like my grilled meats on the juicy and moist side. I feel that they are shorting you when you sub no beans for double rice. The portion seems to be the same as a single serving. It's unfortunate because I love their Spanish rice. It's cooked perfectly with hints of garlic. The service is good, they have several staff coming around. You won't have the same server check on you. So far, this has been our go to spot in the Humble area and we'll be back. We'll just order takeout instead. read more

Chips and salsa: I was expecting fireworks when they brought the chips and salsa out, but the chips didn't have any salt on them and were plain tasting. Along with the salsas they tasted like a bland soup. Sot hen I tried to recover the chips by ordering some chile con queso with ground beef and they barely added any meat and the cheese was flavorless. Margarita: I ordered a peach margarita that that I didn't finish because it was overly sweet. I didn't get a buzz either. Main Entrée: I ordered a taco salad and had to add ranch to enjoy it. It was ok but not mind blowing. Service: The staff did not speak English well, so it was hard to communicate with them. This caused delays with me ordering food as well. Came in on a Monday evening for dinner and sat at the bar. Place was super empty and just a few tables had customers. Bartender was nowhere in sight. I waited a good 5 minutes before someone came out to take my drink order. The chip boy brought chips out. I had to ask for both a drink menu and food menu. After the server brought my drink, I waited another 5-10 minutes before someone came out to take my order. No one brought water. A couple men came to sit at the bar and immediately got served a drink, chips, and had their order taken. They seemed to know the employees. I can't tell you how many times all the employees walked right past me, made eye contact, and never asked if I needed anything. I ordered the fish tacos and needless to say they were subpar. Very dry and plain. No sauce, just a couple slices of avocado and some diced tomatoes to put on. Fortunately, I had ordered queso, so I poured that on. It made the tacos bearable. For a $50 meal, I was highly unimpressed. There are too many good Mexican places with great food and service in this area for me to ever consider returning. Do not recommend. read more

This was just not our cup of tea. We were in the neighborhood and had about 2hours to burn, so we decided to come here. It's decorated like a typical Mexican restaurant with colorful decor; piñatas, sombreros, etc. We were promptly seated and given menus. We also received a red & green salsa with fresh chips. Waitstaff were very friendly and the food came out really, really quick. Entrees: fajita street tacos (best bite) Stuffed avocado w/ chicken Street tacos were good. They come with grilled veggies and plenty of cilantro, but the tortilla itself disintegrated while we're were eating them. The stuffed avocado was okay, not much flavor, just plenty of cheese. My main issue was with the queso. It was plastic looking and bland. Bill was less than 40 dollars, so this would be a great place for families with small kids. They also have free soft serve ice cream. We won't be back, but if you have kids, you should try them. read more

Good mojitos and portions! The wait is usually not too bad but the waiting area is a bit on the small side. Usually we get the fajitas for two and share and it's enough food. They offer a chicken and beef mix with six tortillas total. The staff is attentive but during Friday dinner it can get slower. The mojito is pretty good even though it's a little low on the mint but that seems typical in most places I've been to in Houston. The bar area is very small and doesn't usually seat people unless it's very busy. They do however have the soft serve ice cream machine. read more

Las Palomas recently updated their menu and added a few items. They also changed some of their ingredients such as the beef they use in their fajitas. I ordered the fajitas ranchera which comes with sides of rice, beans, pico, guacamole and cheese. The new beef is delicious and is better than the beef they were previously using. This is by far the best Mexican restaurant in this area. I have not read the reviews in a while so I'm not sure why they only have four stars. If you're a foodie and are familiar with Yelp reviews in this area you will know that a lot of them are total nonsense. The reason "good" restaurants do not move into this area are the same reason you see those reviews. That being said, I try to bring reality into the Yelp reviews of the restaurants around here. I will not give a place one star because they gave me four pieces of ice instead of five in my ice tea. I will judge a restaurant by the food which is why I go to restaurants. We're still adjusting from San Antonio TexMex to Houston TexMex food. While not quite as delicious as home, we find Las Palomas to be pretty close. The food is always great, servers are friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. We especially love the Saturday happy hour margaritas! read more

Terrible customer service experience. Came for margaritas on a Saturday during Happy Hour. Menu reflects $2 off all house margaritas (in photo). I did have to replace the mango margarita because there was a fruit fly in it. I didn't complain, as I know this can unintentionally happen. When the bill came the discount wasn't included. Spoke with the waitress and then the manager. They doubled down on it only including small house, and not large house margaritas (which the menu doesn't state). The manager acknowledged that the menu is misleading. When asked to make it right, she said no. I told her of my intention to leave a negative review to which she responded "go ahead". This was my 3rd visit to Las Palomas, and definitely my last. The absolute disregard and disrespect from the Las Palomas staff is inexcusable. read more

Today is the first time I visited this location. A smaller establishment than the Woodforest location but just as good and friendly. Nice decor and homey. Today I tried the Presidente. Chicken topped with white cheese, rice, and salad. Very good and plentiful even though the shrimp could use some seasoning because it lacks flavor unless you mix it with salsa and add salt. Chips are always good as are their salsas. We were given to try a hotter salsa version that was good but the red fresh salsa is still my favorite. I recommend eating at either location. One of the best Mexican food restaurants I have visited in the Houston area (Humble/Atascasita). The red salsa that came with the chips was served warm and both were very flavorful and not so spicy you couldn't enjoy it. Enchiladas were tender and the chicken inside was juicy and seasoned well. The fajitas were tender and sizzling when they arrived. Rice and beans were very good and the sopapillas were some of the best I've ever had. They were soft, tender, and slightly crispy. It was an explosion of tenders in your mouth! Service was friendly and playful. They make their flour tortillas in house! Definitely a spot we will visit again when we are in the area. When I inquired I was told I would get free with the purchase of a 4 oz salsa, I was told that if I bought 2 containers of 8oz I would get NO FREE Chips.
