Stumbled around this little restaurant while searching for lunch for a day in Miami. We wanted Cuban food and this was perfect. It was lunch time and the place was actually empty so we were skeptical but gave it a try anyways. Definitely looks like a family owned and family-run restaurant. The menu has a lot of choices. I believe the main dishes were only available for dinner so we went with the breakfast and lunch option. Steak, egg, toast, coffee- hubby got this breakfast special and the portion was huge! Look at the plate. It was a big slice of steak, 2 eggs (scrambled) fries, a side of bread and a cup of coffee. We could have totally shared the one entree and be full for 2 people! The price definitely beats the portion. Steak sandwich- I got the sandwich which was also big in portion. It came with chips fries on top. The sandwich had onions and lettuce, tomatoes. It may not be the tastiest meal but it def satisfied our belly and our wallet. The service was great. The guy who took our order was very nice and the lady seems like she didn't speak a lot of English. The food was not salty so more on the bland side so you can definitely dress it up with sauce. You don't come here for the ambience, should come here for some dang good food! We started with some café con Leche, and then got a Cubano with fries for our meal. I walked into the restaurant and waited about 15 minutes before being approached to place my order. When the gentleman at the counter asked what kind of coffee I wanted, I said a colada. He then asked if I wanted it with or without sugar. I simply replied, "A colada isn't a colada without sugar," and confirmed I wanted it with sugar. To my surprise, this seemed to offend him, and he refused to serve me. He even refused service to the person standing next to me, someone I didn't know, simply because they were nearby. Because 4.5 stars is not an option, and the service deserves 5 stars... A very small tucked away place, quiet and simple... as opposed to the few restaurants across the street. The little grandma was so friendly and sweet, and was kind enough to refill my coffee mug with extra milk. And she even steamed it before refilling for me! That's the kind of service you don't really get anymore without either paying an arm and a leg or just have to go without these days. The food gets 4 stars because the hash brown could be a little less oily and the palmas steak could be a little more tender. Otherwise, the flavor and the amount is amazing... The prices deserves 5 stars in this economical climate and I'm shocked they can be this cheap in this neck of the woods but I appreciate it nonetheless. My only complaint is actually the mosquitoes... I got 6 bites in the 30mins while I ate there. Las Palmas in downtown Miami is a hidden gem--so tucked away, you might pass it twice before realizing it's the spot you've been searching for. The food? Excellent. The staff? Great place to eat if you don't have a lot of time but can sit down for a few. I had the breakfast sandwich with bacon, eggs and cheese on wheat bread. It was cooked just right. The bread was toasted just right. The Cuban coffee was superb! I also took one to go! The staff were efficient at getting the orders right and back to the kitchen. They came out rather quickly. So happy my friend brought me to this cute little Cuban spot for breakfast while I was in Miami. It's a small shop but some people are in and out so if you want to sit down and eat then you can do so at some of the tables. The breakfast here is sooo good and extremely affordable. For around $4, I had eggs, hash brown, sausage and a bottle water or coffee. Literally just $4. That's like a steal, especially for someone who pays that price for just a bagel in nyc. Just look at the picture (look closely).The craziest part is that when they went back to show the roach in the food, the owner came out and said " that happens, it's normal they crawl in there"!! This is the Ben's Chili Bowl of Miami. For non-DC people, Ben's is probably the most iconic place in Washington, authentic DC flavor and food. My friend and I needed a relatively quick place to stop on the way out of town and wanted authentic Cuban food. It's the real deal - the cubano is HUGE and yummy (although for me I could use a bit more pickle). Plantains were perfectly fried. The people working behind the counter were lovely and the service was quick. The best thing about Las Palmas is the vibe. It's legit, no frills, and affordable. It's slightly overpriced for the quality of food. It is one of the better cuban places you'll find in downtown. If you're willing to drive, you'll find better places around town. The best part of this place was learning about guayana soda (however, you spell it). I usually don't drink soda, but that brazilian soda was delicious! I got the cuban sandwich here and it's typical. Nothing special, so I'd say you can get it anywhere and slightly less pricey. This place does the job to get your cuban fix, but it's not my go to cuban place. read more
