I've been hearing the rave about Lapis and Lapop for some time now and was so excited to check it out. We came here for dessert and drinks after dinner and were pleasantly surprised with the moody atmosphere. We were seated an ordered drinks from their menu. Great to note you are able to order anything on their Lapis menu while at Lapop - there is simply a curtain that separates you from the restaurant! To eat, I tried the Phirnee, a delicious sweet pudding made with ground rice and topped with nuts. Being very familiar with the Indian version of this dessert, I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was. Smooth texture, nutty, and perfectly sweet! Highly recommend checking out Lapop! Cannot wait to come back and try more menu items.

La Pop is in the former Sweet Science Coffee location in Adams Morgan. This basement bar / restaurant has warm energy, great music on vinyl, and creative drinks. 10/10 service.

Along Columbia Road NW in Columbia Heights is a basement bar with vibes. With a two bars and several rooms with tables, vinyl records and books decorate the shelves. My friend and I grabbed two seats at the bar easily on a Wednesday evening around 8 pm. Then bartender was attentive yet chill. The menu is fascinating with a wide range of cocktails, beer, and wine. It's unique but you'll notice the focus on flavors like vanilla and cardamom in many drinks. Enjoying more sweet and sour drinks, the bartender recommended the Buz-Kishi Sour and the Babur Gardens. I ordered both and found both unexpected, unique, and refreshing. My friend enjoying stiff and bitter drinks, he didn't love the Herati Western or the Qabooli Old Fashion. Both seemed unbalanced and a little off with the latter being too sweet. Five stars for everything else from service to space.

Hands down best restaurant in DC!! The drinks were delicious and the food was even more so. Will be visiting Lapis next time to get the full experience. Beautiful ambiance and service was solid!

I came here for a friend's DJ set and was instantly wowed by the ambiance. The space is trendy, yet warm and inviting. I am hoping I can update this review upon another visit, but I have to say that frankly the bar service was subpar. The bartenders themselves were very generous, but they seemed confused about tabs and it took me a very long time to close out as they had their hands full between taking and fulfilling new orders. Maybe just a growing pain; I know this is a newer spot overall. I will look forward to Lapop again soon!

The review I am offering today is solely for the lounge/underground bar and music venue portion of the restaurant. With that said, I have to offer a disfavorable review as I was there to see a show that was set to start at 9:00 p.m. However, it did not begin until approximately 10:30 p.m. There are many points at which I considered leaving; something I would have done, if the tickets did not cost a significant amount of cash, as do the drinks as well. Likewise, as I don't live close to the venue I felt as if I could not justify the trip unless I stayed around to witness the performance. The performance was okay but not spectacular. Likewise I found the venue quite confusing in that it was neither a music venue nor a nightclub. It was too loud to actually carry on with a conversation and hang out, but likewise, it was not a nightclub in which dancing and fashionably reckless alcoholism could ensue. While decent in taste and execution, I would also say the drinks do not carry the level of value one would expect given their price tag. I will say, however, that the service is exceptional. Lots of attentive staff and I found the hosts and waitstaff to be very friendly.

The only reason I'm adding the second star is for the quality of the drink. However, the service was horrendous. Your female bartender had a horrible attitude, and we were so insanely excited to check out the vibe of this place. However, despite planning to be here for over two hours until our reservation at Lapis, we ended up leaving after only one hour. We saw a new bartender after our dinner, so we planned to try and get another drink. However, despite being open for another 30 minutes, they said they wouldn't serve us. We exited back out Lapis and were told by a server that they just choose when they're going to close early. So disappointed, and frankly, I'm fighting to not just stick with the one star review honestly.

I had heard great things about La Pop and it did not disappoint when I finally visited. The atmosphere is cozy but elegant and the cocktails are fantastic. The service was friendly and attentive and of course the food ordered from the Lapis menu was delicious.

Went last night for Valentine's dinner. Was a little skeptical given I couldn't find any other recent reviews. Absolute hidden gem. Great drinks and you can order food from Lapis, very flavorful delicious food. Will be back!

What a quaint cafe. I had never been here before and it's such a vibe. The decor was nice and it's a great place to read, study, or just meet up with friends to chat. I got a hot tea and lamb patties which were very delicious. Can't wait to come back and try out more items on the menu. It wasn't loud at all, aside from a few laughable customers.

Such a low key coffee shop (good coffee too). Love it, it's located on the basement of the restaurant. It has very comfy seating, many tables to study and books to read on. They play classical music with I think is perfect and soothing when I really need to focus. On the basement you will find both the bar area and coffee station. It is sometimes booked for private events at certain hours they don't really say anything in advance just start kicking everybody out lol but nevertheless a great spot!

La Pop is a cute little basement coffee shop located under Lapis in Adams Morgan. La pop is a welcome respite from many of the other overcrowded coffee shops in the area. While the space lacks natural light, the warm lighting, eclectic décor, and low-key atmosphere make you feel right at home. It's the perfect spot for those looking to get a little work done on the weekend or meet up with a friend in a cozy, more intimate setting. The drinks are made with care and have enough caffeine in them to get you going without making you feel too jittery. The pastry selection is relatively small (coffee cake, croissants, etc.), but that is offset by the ability to order food from Lapis, which serves up tasty Afghan food. Pros: great ambiance, lots of space, good wifi, good food options Cons: limited cell service in the basement Tips: La Pop offers a $12 bento box consisting of one main dish and a few sides. They also host a series of cultural events (comedy, dj sets, etc.) and have a small art gallery in the back of the space.

I think this is really nice latteart i really like. 100%I recommended this great place.

It's a sexy basement vinyl den with additional outdoor seating, 10/10 unique cocktails, and incredible Japanese inspired small plates. Between two visits, we have tried 6 different drinks. They are named after songs and listed on the back of a fake vinyl cover. Each costs around $20, but with the mandatory tip and tax, it comes to around $26-28 per drink. The since I left you, though, is worth every penny. It is similar to an old fashioned but a little sweeter, with bourbon (makers mark), and while the menu says it also has miso, blackberry, cardamom, and cacao, I wouldn't say those flavors come through. But it is one of the best cocktails being served in DC right now. It is so good. They serve it with a cardamom tuile that is delicious as well. There is a lot of variety on here, but my number 2 is the Roses, a bright red gin based drink with a hint of fruitiness and a spicy kick in the back end. If you want something a little sweeter, the Takeover is a cognac based drink with coffee notes served with a mini donut. The food is exceptionally well seasoned and so flavorful. The fried chicken cannot be missed, and I love that you can get it in half or full size portions. The shrimp tempura might be even better. You get four large pieces that are super crisp and have a little orange sauce on them. Amazing. Our second visit we tried their chips and dip, and these potato chips alone are worth a visit. Large, crunchy, and served with a tasty ranch dip. I think 2 dishes is good for two people to fill you up, but add a third if hungry. The place is quite expensive, but they are worth it. For a date night, they are a great choice. Four drinks and three dishes shared between two people came to around $195, but as of this review, they are offering a $30 off deal if you pay through the app In Kind. Bonus points because the first time we came, they seated us maybe 5 minutes after our reservation time, and they gave us a free glass of cava. Top notch customer service right there

This bar is sweet -- awesome music, a neat menu, truly craft cocktails, and a unique menu. We tried several cocktails and each was delicious - from spicy to sweet, they don't miss. We also tried the cheese burger egg rolls and the tuna hand roll. The food is expensive for what you get but it's advertised to be small bites, not a meal. The egg rolls felt like remixed in n out, and as a Californian, I was grateful. Why not 5 stars? With the premium pricetag, I do expect premium service. The bartender was more interested in chatting with some folks he knew who came to sit at the bar. He also spent a lot of time chatting up the couple next to us, so do sit at the bar if you're feeling social. However, for the spare attention he did provide us, he was a bit condescending when we asked for a different glass for a drink that came in a bowl. It was slow until the very end of our stay and yet there were several times where I had an empty glass for a long period (and wanted to order more) or needed water. FYI for 6 drinks and a few bar bites it was $165... we went for a cheap burger dinner afterwards!

The drinks tasted watered down and unbalanced. The banana flavor in mine was dull and overripe rather than fresh and vibrant. The smoke and fire presentation was nice, but the actual cocktails did not justify the $25 price point. The restroom was unacceptable. There was urine on the floor, a strong foul odor, and the surface was slippery. For a speakeasy positioning itself as upscale, this was a major miss. I am aware this is a small space, I did research on it and did notice their website makes mention that while they prefer reservations, they do have a limited spot for walk ins. Knowing this, I sent my husband here, hoping for a spot at the bar as he was alone. When he arrived around 6pm, he saw 2 open bar spots and a bunch of tables with reserved signs. The head of house asked about a reservation and my husband said he was hoping to get 1-2 drinks, bar spots were fine. He noticed a group of 4 girls waiting as well- he was then told the bar was full and the 2 open spots were not to be filled at the group of 4 had first dibs on them. This makes 0 sense because one person could have easily filled them but I digress. On top of that, when my husband asked what time they could potentially get him in, as he did not mind waiting, they told him 11:30PM. Then the host scoffed and said "You do know it's Friday, right?" insinuating my husband must be an idiot who can't read a weekly calendar. Look - I get it, small exclusive spot obviously trying to replicate the swanky NYC speakeasies vibe, those that are impossible to get into- however, do not be flat out rude.
