Upon arrival you will be welcomed in a comfortable space with soothing music and an amazing aroma. Dwainia (owner & stylist) is great. I haven't been in a while because I'm in a braid phase but De Tu Salon is THE place I go when I'm not wearing braids. I would have to move far, far away from San Pedro to change salons. I don't know if she does weaves but I know she is really into taking care of your hair and grooming it into a healthy state if it is not already there. If it is she will keep it there. She does African American hair as well as Latino, Asian, and Caucasion hair and she is very friendly, personable, and quick. She rarely falls behind schedule and works very hard to avoid it. Her prices are LOW, especially when you factor in her experience (she's been doing hair for a long time) and her professionalism. I really, really, really like this shop! When you walk in, its very unassuming - painted concrete floors, painted cinder block walls, elevated ceiling with piping / warehouse look, screens, plants everywhere, soft music playing in the background, easy and comfy chairs everywhere, a bubbling fountain, and a coat rack (really - when was the last time you saw a COAT RACK in a salon??!! I have never been in a salon where they even CARE about my coat...it was another nice touch). They were running a little behind schedule when I got there, so I had to wait awhile. But, really, the place is so relaxing, I could have waited another 1/2 hour and still been calm about it. I got a mani/pedi done by Winnetka. I had a Groupon, but the regular price is so reasonable, I would definitely go back to be pampered like this. There was no rushing, no hurrying, it was all about me and my nails and her making sure that everything was right about it. I scheduled for a mani/pedi, but there was no rush to get me out. W did my pedi and then started on my mani once.she.was.completely.done with my pedi....she didn't start my fingernails soaking early or anything. She was taking her time and not trying to multi-task or get me out quicker or anything. It's all very clean and sanitary (she even gave me the nail file when she was done with it), there are no "stations" in this shop (you sit in a club chair and she brings the stations to you), there were no electric files, no jet baths (everyone gets their own CLEAN foot bath), no loud talking, and no overbearing smell of acetone or acrylic. It's seriously so nice and calm and natural that I was SURPRISED when she pulled out a little electric fan to help my finger nails dry faster.... I would have sat and waited. I have never been so impressed by a salon in San Pedro! I've lived in this town my whole life, and wish I had found Lanta Salon sooner. I went to Winnetka for a mani and pedi, and was very pleased with both the service and price. Winetka really took her time with me. She is very friendly and funny, so the whole process was delightful. One week later, my nails still aren't chipped! I think this is because Winnetka uses a fast-drying top coat that seals in the polish. I read a few reviews before going to the salon, and was curious about parking. This salon has a whole garage full of free parking for customers; the entrance is on 7th street. I'm so happy with this salon, and I will keep coming back! read more

Love this place. I don't normally get manicures and pedicures done, but I had bought a deal to here through Livingsocial for a wedding I was in a few months ago. I didn't end up getting my nails done here for the wedding, but since I bought the coupon I decided I needed to use it. For it being a Sunday, the salon was nice and not crowded. When I initially got there for my 11:30 appointment, I was the only one there. Only two other people walked in during that entire time. The ambiance of the shop was very calming and nice. It didn't smell overwhelmingly of chemicals as most salons do. I got my manicure and pedicure done by Winnetka, who was very pleasant and nice. She took her time and didn't rush me into picking a color. She sat me down and told me to look through the color wheels while she started my pedicure (which was in my own, clean foot bath - no funky reused tubs of water here). When she was ready to start painting my nails, she asked what color I had chosen and went to go grab it. She took her time with both the pedicure and the manicure, and we had a great conversation. She genuinely seemed like she enjoys her job and enjoys talking to her customers. When she was done, she let me sit for a minute under the fan so my nails would dry. Overall it was a very relaxing experience. Normally I am very leery of paying someone to do my nails because I just feel it is something that I can do myself, so I really only get them done professionally if I am going to an event or something. I would never have found this place had it not been for Groupon... but with that being said, this place is great. It is a rather small salon with only one nail tech, but how much more do you need? I really appreciated the personal attention and not having to listen to other people talk while receiving my service. The Pandora station was playing very relaxing music and the quality of the service was top notch. There were almost TOO many color choices, but Winnetka helped me make a smart decision. Super cute place and the two ladies that work there (Winetka & her mom) are really nice and funny. I got the mani/pedi on Living Social and was very happy with the results. I also really like the fact that Winetka used a different liner for the foot soak for each customer. Prices are also very much reasonable & she has a very good selection of colors & quality polishes. My only minor complaint about the whole thing is that parking around that area is all paid, which is annoying. I tried Lanta Salon because I purchased a $30 for two gelish manicure on Groupon. Winnetka herself was very nice, and did a great job on my nails, but the gel peeled off after exactly one week. The reason I rated this place 2 stars is because booking an appointment with Lanta Salon is so difficult. For example, today is the third weekend of June and, there are no available weekend appointments throughout the month of July and August. Because of the poor customer service with booking appointments and the quick peel of my gel, I wouldn't go back to this salon. Unfortunately, a nice manicurist isn't enough. read more

I have had an 18 layer chakra aura cleanse, reiki and a past life regression with Dwainia and I felt so relaxed and at peace during these sessions. During these services she provides information to help you continue to grow spiritually. The energy during the reiki session was so profound you could feel the heat coming from her hands (it felt like hot stones) and it was so relaxing it felt like a massage with out her even touching me and I fell asleep every time and Dwainia allowed me to rest. Also during the reiki session I could feel tingling which let me know that was a spot that need attention. During the 18 layer chakra aura cleanse I could really feel tingling where I had previously injured myself and it was nice to know these were also injuries I've had in past lives but once this session was over the cords were cut. Last minute I decided to get highlights and a base color done which I already knew would take hours because my hair is long and I have so much of it! I called Lanta Salon to schedule an appointment a couple of hours later. I had just moved to San Pedro so I knew finding a great hair salon would be a challenge or so I thought. To my surprise when I walked in I was greeted by everyone and the owner Dwainia as well. The place is extremely cultured, inviting, and just a breath of fresh air compared to other salons I've been to. When I sat down Dwainia took the time to ask what I wanted in detail and she made sure to explain what she was going to do. I was really impressed at the amount of questions she asked me in regards to my hair because no other stylist had ever taken the time before. Once she figured out what would work best with my hair she got started. I'm usually the type that stays quiet while getting my hair done but Dwainia made me feel extremely comfortable. We chatted about the culture and history of San Pedro, life experiences, and she even explained to me why the Vincent Thomas Bridge is lit up with blue lights at night. I have never felt so comfortable with someone I just met! My hair took almost 3hrs which is what I expected since I have so much hair however, it felt like it went by so quickly because I feel so at ease in the atmosphere that they provide at Lanta Salon. When she was finished and my hair was done drying I was beyond impressed!!! I have been trying for 3yrs to get the highlights and base color exactly how she had done it. Also always up to date on all the new nail trends : crackle, matte, etc. Has a vast variety of colors to choose from! I love her!
