JD understood the assignment and then some! I came in needing a sew-in and left feeling like a whole new person. The install was neat, flat, and blended perfectly with my natural 4C hair. No bumps, no tension, no unnecessary pulling. Just clean work! What I really appreciated was the attention to detail. JD took time to make sure the parting was crisp, the leave-out matched, and the style actually fit my face. The owner responded to my review and that made me smile he was gracious and explained a lot that I hadn't considered and now I really do believe there was a lack of communication or possibly miscommunication on my behalf when I initially called. Particularly when the scheduling of an initial meeting didn't happen it never occurred to me that the owner was working solo in his establishment. I wanted to visit this salon in particular after searching in vain on Yelp for an African American hair stylist I found J D's Hair Studio and his work spoke for itself his reviews the pics and testimonials had me sold and it's near my condo that's why sister girl wanted to get her hair did. I'm a natural hair girl 10 years It's been years since I went to a professional shop the game has most definitely changed but what remains are the true professionals who actually do the work aka wash shampoo conditioner and style hair J D's fit the box and is old school as they get he puts in the work. My hair is thick, long, worn natural, and gray (which is somewhat wiry and coarse). It had been almost 2 years since my last flat iron. JD did a beautiful job. He used 4 different shampoos. Finger detangled, no yanking and pulling. Hit the roots with a pressing comb and flat ironed/curled it. My hair was bouncing and behaving in less than 2 hrs; most people take at least 3 hrs to do my hair. I received so many compliments. Almost 2 weeks later and it still looks good. I highly recommend him with no reservations. Other perks: He's punctual (started at 6 am), professional (no overbooking, I was the only client), and conversational. Most importantly, he DID NOT do any of the following annoying things some stylists do: 1) try to do other people at the same time and leave me under the dryer forever, 2) soak me when they wash my hair, 3) chop my hair when I asked for a trim, 4) tell me all the things that are wrong with my hair and try to sell me treatments and products to "fix" it, or 4) try to change the price after they finish. On Super Bowl week I contacted J D to purchase a lace wig and I absolutely love it. It holds the curls and even when the curls fall it gives it the natural look.
