After speaking with 3 sisterlock consultants that are listed on the sisterlock website, I am completely changing my review from bad to worse. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING SISTERLOCKS, DO NOT START THEM HERE!! Cecile started my locs and I was told that I was set up to fail from the very beginning. First, they were too small for my hair type. They should have been started from the ends. I was grossly charged too much. I came in to do my touchups here for the following 18 months about every 4-6 weeks. For the most part, new growth was retightened and she washed my hair. She didn't groom my locs or even offer to shampoo me until I saw her washing someone else's hair. She told me to separate them and keep mty hair wrapped up at night and tio band them when I wash them with the shampoo. This was ALL of the information I was given. At about 18 months when the hair was starting to lock, they bunched and were fat in some places and extremely frizzy and not uniform at all. I thought that maybe something I did that caused this, but other consultants have informed me that if I was given maintenance and advice, this would have all been prevented. I told Cecile about the problem and asked her to fix it, and she did was say that she was sorry. After all the time and especially money that I spent to have someone completely turn their back on me is extremely hurtful and enrages me. One of the consultants told me that she would file a suit if she were me. I am still considering it. If you want to pay top dollar for some mediocre work, then this is the place to be. I would STRONGLY advice you to only get sisterlocks started by people listed on their website. In choosing someone from the website, you have more assurances and someone to advocate and rectify any problems, if some arise. I appreciate the consultants that have FREELY shared their advice and offered some solutions. That has restored some of my faith that people really do care and aren't just in it for the money. I waited about 6 months after I was blown off to inquire about what went wrong between Cecile and I. I wanted to clear the air and she if maybe there was a misunderstanding on my end. She wouldn't answer the phone or return my text messages. To me, this is further evidence that she knew and intentionally ripped me off. I particularly like this place because of the ease of getting in and out of the shop quickly. Braiders are fast and take minimal breaks. I have been searching for a natural hair care salon for a while and I have finally found the one. Most beauticians I've been to don't take their time to detangle my hair. In fact they cause my hair to tangle more as they would try detangling it. I went to Gretchen and she not only detangled my hair in less time than any other person has ever done, she also caused way less hair shedding than any other time I've had my hair done. She's like a wizard when it comes to hair care. She really knows what she's doing. I look forward to going back to her. Beware of Nikki!!! After 10 months of growing my hair out from a shaved cut, i decided to go to nikki for a press n curl. Firstly, our appointment was scheduled at 7am but she arrived 15 minutes late. I wasn't worried about it as i was the only one in the shop. She then washed blow dried, press trimmed and flat ironed my hair, charging me a total of $80. Once home, the press n curl didnt last so i decided to wash my hair because i wanted to refrain from putting heat on it myself. After washing my hair, i noticed my texture would not come back. NIKKI COMPLETELY DAMAGED MY HAIR WITH TOO MUCH HEAT. I exclaimed to her what happened and asked for refund but she denied and told me she'd offer me a free steam treatment. Anyone that knows anything about heat damage knows the hair needs to be cut as it will not revert back to its natural curl. Nikki is very unprofessional and shady as she damaged my hair and will not give me at lease a partial refund (which i would have been okay with) . This review comes with great regret. I really wanted to like this place. I saw Gretchen at the grocery store and I loved her locs. I got her information and decided it was time I took the "plunge". Worst mistake and really it's all my fault. First off I've been two 3 different loctician for quotes. All of them told me I have "soft hair" and that interlocking was the best way for me to start my locs. When I got a consultation from Gretchen she told me straight palm rolling and no tools. I figured she knew what she was doing...And again it's my fault. If 3 people told me I would need something and she told me I wouldn't - that should have been a red flag. Story short - I went to her and she palm rolled by hair and they didn't last a week. Some I had to retwist and some I had to two strand twist, some I braided - they were all over the place. The parts were big and not uniform. Just a mess. I went back after 4 weeks for a retwist and I really really wanted them to look right. Nope, she retwist them and again they were not tight at the root. They were loose and still coming a loose. That was the worst 4-5 weeks because I didn't wash my hair. I told her my needs ahead of time and I like to work out and she gave me Palm rolls. I took them out and decided to go elsewhere. I've been coming here for 2 years now and Chenel is 1/3 people (family & myself) to twist my Locs and she is Great at what she does. The shampoo is a tingly peppermint and feels great on my scalp. She twists very quick... Quicker than I could ever twist and the people in the shop offer good stories. I started my Sisterlocs Bonded By Roots with Chenel on 4/29/2008 and have been going to her ever since. My experience with Chanel has been exceptional. Her prices are fair and reasonable, no price gouging. Plus, she really cares about the health of your hair. Five stars hands down. I had a great experience from the start. Cecil (sorry if I spelled her name wrong) was nice answering all of my questions on my phone calls. She was likely busy when I called, but still tended to each question with great care. When I arrived (early), she was nice and greeted me as well as the other beautician who was working also. The vibe there is comforting. They laugh and joke like a normal salon and you feel welcomed into the "family" as soon as you enter. Cecil got right to work on my hair & did it in less time than I expected (under 2 1/2 hours). Usually beauticians take longer than their quoted time but she quoted the timing almost perfectly. I recommend these ladies for all your natural hair needs. Cecil was knowledgable and did a terrific job on my starter Locs (see pictures). I will be back for certain... His locs always untwisted or looked matted in less than a week. Rae's locs still look fresh even after 6 weeks or more & my son's does not take good care of his hair.
