This has to be the worst braiding shop ever! I needed a quick braided style for an event and I found this place advertised on her website that they have 24hour service Thursday-Sun, turns out they are not. To me that is false advertising. I was in regular communication with the braider, let her know I was a little late, when I was in line at the beauty supply store and that I would be there in less than 5 minutes. As I am pulling into the parking lot I get a text message saying that she has to go. I text her right back telling her I was there and walking to to the door. No response. I walk in and the owner said she waited all day for you! Which was not true. I asked if she could contact the woman and she said she's gone. There was no offer to call another braided or anything to help me. After a couple of minutes I walked out to my call and the chick who was supposed to do my hair had been sitting in the car next to me the whole effing time! I then recalled how this shop was so familiar to me and that's when it hit me! I had been here in the past (10+ years) and received similar crappy customer service. The owner is borderline rude, blasé, unprofessional and has no semblance of what customer service is. My guess is that she has only been able to stay open this long because of her location, her friends and family and what regulars she has on top of collecting booth rent from other braiders. read more

Mimi's Braid Boutique is the TRUTH. I found Mimi on Instagram. She immediately got me booked and I have not been to any other braider since making the move from DC to OC. Mimi and Chris know hair, fast and great prices. Plus the shop atmosphere is amazing. I've networked with other clients and found some Gems to check out in Southern California. I highly recommend this shop. These shots are from my 50th photoshoot. Chris did my braids and I loved the triangle parts. Go check them out y'all. #DC2CALI read more

Best braid and hair salon throughout greater Long Beach area. Very classy accommodating and respectful of your time. Attention to detail is their forte. I cannot tell you how many braiding boutique's i have attended where i have specified a style i wanted my hair braided in only to get not what i wanted. This botique should be a community landmark. They deliver quality service, i have been going here for a little over a year. They have been around for 26 years and it shows because they know how to treat their customers. Always friendly always welcoming no exclusivity complex, as long as you give respect to them you get it from them 10x they are reasonable and very talented at what they do. I would tell you who braids my hair there but you gots to get your own lol. Do yourself a favor and and go to Mimi's braid botique. Highly recommend. read more

The first time I went in, as a walk-in, I was able to make an appointment with a competent young lady. A couple of days later, when I went in order to get my braids, she noticed that my edges were under tension. She did a special braid pattern to protect them. My braids were beautiful, economical, and lasted a while. That was years ago. I tried them again a month or so back. This time I walked in to make an appointment. I discussed the braids I wanted with the owner, Mimi. A few days before, I texted her with the picture and questions re the amount of hair I needed. She never responded. I called the office multiple times to receive no response. I called her cell number. She answered and said she would get back to me within the hour. She did not. Poor customer service. One star for today's service. 5 stars for how it use to be. Balances to 3. read more

Where do I start? 1st of all I know I got on Mimis nerves because I did do a lot of texting. I needed my hair done quickly and by a certain time and a difficult situation because I have no edges and I mean none. Mimi always wrote back and never seemed agitated by my constant texting. She recommended Tonja. Tonja was honest and said it would take a bit longer than I needed to be finished, she also fit me into her schedule to accommodate me. Tonja did the unexpected with my braids. I'm in awe of my braids, she is the miracle worker for those with no edges. Tonja was on time, very nice, professional and got me done in the time I needed to be done. I'm hooked! Thank you Mimi and Tonja! read more

Just a little dissapointed for $150. I definently want to be able to wear my hair in a ponytail/bun. But before I can do that I need to go back to the hair store, get a crochet needle and fill in thses huge gaps. AND figure out why there is just loose braiding hair sticking out the back of my head. Dont get me wrong, all the women who work here are really nice and I love seeing/supporting black owned businesses but I wont be back here--not worth $150, at all. Good luck to the owner. read more

I walked in today for the first time to just check it out - my girls wanted braids for picture day. The salon was very clean and met Chris - she was very professional and had a great personality with my 10 year old and 8 year old - she was willing to accept a walk in - she was fast and efficient - superb with my girls who are tender headed - braids were beautiful , neat and looked very natural not too tight ! It was an overall 5 star experience a gem in Long Beach . If you are looking for a place to get braids come check out Chris - she is awesome ! I came in today to get knotless braids and they turned out phenomenal! I was scheduled with Queda today (i hope i'm spelling your name right!) and now she has a client for life! She was personable, worked quickly and efficiently and it was the most gentle braiding session I've ever had! I don't have a headache and i'm inlove with the results! She only accepts cash (so bring cash ahead of time) & the knotless braids of my size were $200 and it was worth every penny! I brought in my own hair and will continue playing around with colors and getting my hair braided by her! Thanks girl, see you soon! read more

Update: I have now gone to Mimi for years and am still so impressed by the consistency in every twist and braid style she's done for me. After going to other Braider's in the past in Los Angeles, she is the only one who provides my natural hair with the nourishment and lack of tension it needs to thrive while put away in protective styles. I always appreciate how attentive and accommodating she is to the specific needs for my hair. Not to mention every style has come out amazing and I receive endless compliments. The environment of the boutique is comfortable and so down to earth. I highly recommend Mimi's Braid Boutique for all your Braid, twist, crochet, and loc needs! read more

I will not allow anyone else to touch my locs except for Mimi. She has grown my hair from little bitty beads to halfway down my back and by this time next year it should be touching my butt. I also bring my children here and they are treated with the utmost care every time. Once I walk through those doors I am greeted with laughter and some great advice. Everyone in that shop is extremely talented and will take care of you and your hair. They are educated on the best products for your hair and they stay up to date on styles and techniques. I was researching braid shops in Long Beach and came across this gem! Since I'm 9 months pregnant, I didn't feel like sitting in the chair for 8 hours, so I requested small individuals at the top with a weave in the back. Surprisingly, a lot of other stylists I called at other places were confused by the style and said they couldn't braid with human hair. Fortunately, I found Dede! She was very professional and even followed up with me to confirm my appointment a couple of days in advance. She was able to work her magic with my human hair. I got the wrong length for the top, but thankfully Dede manipulated the hair in a way where it blended in perfectly. The braids were very neat at the top and not too tight at all. She completed my hairstyle in about 3 1/2 hours which was great! The pricing was very reasonable as well. I absolutely love my hair and will definitely be back! read more

I decided to wear braids since spring break is in another week, and my brithday. I opted out going to any braider who braids from home. Didn't want to hear personal conversations, waiting for them to cook dinner, and/or screaming at their kids! Use to pass this place for years. After reading a few reviews, I made my appointment on a Thursday to have it done that Saturday afternoon. I was quoted $150 for individuals the size of a No. #2 pencil ...estimated time 2hours, and $10 for a wash. Since I was coming from work, I did not mind paying $10 to wash my hair. Environment: Not your typical hair shop atmosphere with various hot gossip polluting the air. Its really relaxing with the TV on and the small talk between clientele and stylist. My stylist Porche (please excuse if I misspelled) and myself were jamming with music in our ears. Stylist: Porche was very attentive to my request/needs. She's friendly and professional. Outcome: It took a little longer than 2 hours but she still got the job done fairly quickly. I'm happy with the outcome but I wish I could have requested for her to completely braid to the ends alittle more. I don't care for so much hair at the ends. I will DEFINITELY be back! Next time I would like to try the twist braids. read more

When I arrived, the shop was well maintained and people were very pleasant. I waited for a short time before I was called the chair. Mimi greeted me and took time to understand exactly what I wanted. Throughout the style she made sure I was comfortable. All and all, I was there for just under four hours. I love my hair and will definitely go back again soon. Murphy was my stylist and did a wonderful job! She gave me cornrows on both sides of my hair to hold back short hair I am growing out. She was on time, reasonably priced, and very sweet. I decided to treat my mom and get her hair twisted by Mimi, on day four the back of twist fell out, by week one not only did her twist come out, it begin to look very old. My mom called Mimi when she came back from her trip on day four of having her hair done, Mimi stated she did not work Sunday or Monday and that she'll work something out with my mom when she returns back to her shoppe. My mother never heard from her and decided not to go back to Long Beach because she did not want to be charged again. unfortunately it had been three weeks and she had to take her hair out. I'm so disappointed that her hair came out on day four and it only went down hill from there. To pay 190 dollars for her hair to look like it was done by someone still learning to twist is unacceptable. I do not recommend getting twist done by Mimi at all. Thank you for responding Mimi, when my mom arrived an hour late she appreciated that you were kind enough to keep her hair appointment since she was coming from Irvine. I helped her call braiding salons in the OC and LBC and I asked specifically how much does it cost for bra length/waist twists, my mom NEVER EVER wore he hair/ braids short she loves long hair, so there's no way she would request to have short twist. Regardless of the length I was surprised her hair came out in the back on day four. I noticed personally her hair began to look worse everyday. I'm glade you can admit her hair looked bad. She did tried her best to maintain her loose twist but unfortunately since the twist was done so poorly it just didn't stand the test of time. I cannot speak for your other customer but for this specific customer the twist looked tacky. I decided to give you two stars because she did say that you're a nice woman. I hope you learn from constructive criticism. Below I placed two beautiful pictures I found on google of what professional Senegalese twist should look like. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I scheduled an appointment for my daughter to get twist done through styleseat, not knowing my daughter had to go to work, I texted and asked if she could arrive early. I was told yes, she could show up at 9:30am. I said perfect! I got a text this morning for the stylist telling me that she's going to be 10 minutes late, I responded and said no problem, my daughter just wants large twist, just as long as she's out by 2:30, 3 pm we're good. I'm at work, and the stylist calls upset saying, "she's not a robot, she got kids, and doesn't work under pressure", I told her it wasn't a problem, my daughter would be able to show up a little late to work, we get off the phone, I thought everything was fine....few minutes later, I get a refund of my money. I texted the stylist, no response, I called her back, and was told, she doesn't work under pressure and that MY DAUGHTER WAS LATE! I was like, umm ok(but you texted me to tell me you were going to be late). So, I was very upset because at the end of the day this person was very unprofessional. If you woke up late, or the kids had you running late, you should have just said you didn't want to do it instead of wasting my time. Plus you still owe me one dollar. read more

Ok folks.. This is black hair shop in case you couldn't tell from the name. It's not a foofy Beverly Hills salon where you pay WAAAY over price for the services they provide. The staff are like any salon, they rent the booths from the owner. I found this by recommendation of gal that came into my work and I loved her hair extensions. Miyona is the name she gave me so I gave her a call for my daughter to get her hair braided. She was very professional and quoted me a price for her and gave me her facebook page so I look at the styles that she did. She also explained there was different pricing for adding hair and or beads. We set a time and I showed up at the shop and she was there and on time. My daughter has never had her hair braided. She is half african american her hair is getting a little out of control. I leave to work early and her dad, god bless him tries, but sometimes when I pick her up from school, she looks like she stuck her finger in a light socket or I'm afraid CPS is going pick her up. So to ease the whole process we decided she was probably old enough to tolerate the braiding process. Miyona was very good with her and my little one stayed pretty still, of course threatening her to walk out with half her hair done, if she causes problems, might have helped. Anyhow it look her about 1.5 hrs to do it, and it was so tight and tiny. My daughter loved it. She got tips how to take care of it from the stylists and it lasted a little over 3.5 weeks.$35 was the price. I was so impressed that I went and got my hair done, with added hair. Miyona took 2 hrs. only, I also wanted it tied in a bun at the nape of my neck and she sewed in once she had configured it in bund. My hair lasted way past the 6 weeks. Tip: Hair braiders are not required to have a cosmotology license. It is a trade that is learnedor comes natural. Miyona is going the extra step to go to cosmo-school to get licensed to other items such as pressing, relaxing etc., and for that I think she is on her was to a great professional career. Best of all they don't blink an eye on what ethnicity you are. read more
