Took my daughter to get her hair braided for the first time so she can start the school year with her hair done and Mimi did not disappoint! Super sweet and she was patient and nice with my 4 year old. I'm so grateful for her since I noticed that most braiders don't do younger kids. Best braid and hair salon throughout greater Long Beach area. Very classy accommodating and respectful of your time. Attention to detail is their forte. I cannot tell you how many braiding boutique's i have attended where i have specified a style i wanted my hair braided in only to get not what i wanted. This botique should be a community landmark. They deliver quality service, i have been going here for a little over a year. They have been around for 26 years and it shows because they know how to treat their customers. Always friendly always welcoming no exclusivity complex, as long as you give respect to them you get it from them 10x they are reasonable and very talented at what they do. I would tell you who braids my hair there but you gots to get your own lol. Do yourself a favor and and go to Mimi's braid botique. Highly recommend.

Where do I start? 1st of all I know I got on Mimis nerves because I did do a lot of texting. I needed my hair done quickly and by a certain time and a difficult situation because I have no edges and I mean none. Mimi always wrote back and never seemed agitated by my constant texting. She recommended Tonja. Tonja was honest and said it would take a bit longer than I needed to be finished, she also fit me into her schedule to accommodate me. Tonja did the unexpected with my braids. I'm in awe of my braids, she is the miracle worker for those with no edges. Tonja was on time, very nice, professional and got me done in the time I needed to be done. I'm hooked! This is my second time, getting my hair braided from cris. My appointment was initially was at 230pm but of course I was running late I appreciate cris for even still taking me at a different time. I know time is money. She's fast efficient professional and a sweet heart. The shop brings a warm family vibe her and her mom are both great stylist

Just a little dissapointed for $150. I definently want to be able to wear my hair in a ponytail/bun. But before I can do that I need to go back to the hair store, get a crochet needle and fill in thses huge gaps. AND figure out why there is just loose braiding hair sticking out the back of my head. Dont get me wrong, all the women who work here are really nice and I love seeing/supporting black owned businesses but I wont be back here--not worth $150, at all. Good luck to the owner.

I came in today to get knotless braids and they turned out phenomenal! I was scheduled with Queda today (i hope i'm spelling your name right!) and now she has a client for life! She was personable, worked quickly and efficiently and it was the most gentle braiding session I've ever had! I don't have a headache and i'm inlove with the results! She only accepts cash (so bring cash ahead of time) & the knotless braids of my size were $200 and it was worth every penny! I brought in my own hair and will continue playing around with colors and getting my hair braided by her! Thanks girl, see you soon!

Update: I have now gone to Mimi for years and am still so impressed by the consistency in every twist and braid style she's done for me. After going to other Braider's in the past in Los Angeles, she is the only one who provides my natural hair with the nourishment and lack of tension it needs to thrive while put away in protective styles. I always appreciate how attentive and accommodating she is to the specific needs for my hair. Not to mention every style has come out amazing and I receive endless compliments. The environment of the boutique is comfortable and so down to earth. I highly recommend Mimi's Braid Boutique for all your Braid,twist,crochet, and loc needs!

I was researching braid shops in Long Beach and came across this gem! Since I'm 9 months pregnant, I didn't feel like sitting in the chair for 8 hours, so I requested small individuals at the top with a weave in the back. Surprisingly, a lot of other stylists I called at other places were confused by the style and said they couldn't braid with human hair. Fortunately, I found Dede! She was very professional and even followed up with me to confirm my appointment a couple of days in advance.She was able to work her magic with my human hair. I got the wrong length for the top, but thankfully Dede manipulated the hair in a way where it blended in perfectly. The braids were very neat at the top and not too tight at all. She completed my hairstyle in about 3 1/2 hours which was great! The pricing was very reasonable as well. I absolutely love my hair and will definitely be back!

I decided to wear braids since spring break is in another week, and my brithday. I opted out going to any braider who braids from home. Didn't want to hear personal conversations, waiting for them to cook dinner, and/or screaming at their kids! Use to pass this place for years. After reading a few reviews, I made my appointment on a Thursday to have it done that Saturday afternoon. I was quoted $150 for individuals the size of a No. #2 pencil ...estimated time 2hours, and $10 for a wash. Since I was coming from work, I did not mind paying $10 to wash my hair. Environment: Not your typical hair shop atmosphere with various hot gossip polluting the air. Its really relaxing with the TV on and the small talk between clientele and stylist. My stylist Porche (please excuse if I misspelled) and myself were jamming with music in our ears. Stylist: Porche was very attentive to my request/needs. She's friendly and professional. Outcome: It took a little longer than 2 hours but she still got the job done fairly quickly. I'm happy with the outcome but I wish I could have requested for her to completely braid to the ends alittle more. I don't care for so much hair at the ends. I will DEFINITELY be back! Next time I would like to try the twist braids.

This was my first time getting crochet braids after months of research and I found her on here and saw some of her clients photos and was sold. She asked me how I wanted it before I went in, so I was stoked!! The environment is nice and relaxing with big plush black couches, a tv with hilarious day time programs on, and these all these lovely women doing amazing hair!! I found Mimi here on Yelp and I'm so happy I did. From start to finish, my experience was a positive one. I called in and got a very reasonable quote for crochet braids and made my appointment. When I arrived, the shop was well maintained and people were very pleasant. I waited for a short time before I was called the chair. Mimi greeted me and took time to understand exactly what I wanted. Throughout the style she made sure I was comfortable. All and all, I was there for just under four hours. I love my hair and will definitely go back again soon. I highly recommend this place if you're looking to get braided in any way. The hair I used was Isis Caribbean Bundle Braid - Bahamas Loose Wave, color 4.

All I can say is if I could give 10 stars, I would! My regular braider of over 10 years up and moved to Australia on me (how dare she! haha). My husband actually was the one who suggested I look on yelp for a new place. Mimi's was the first place that came up and after reading the reviews, I decided to give a call. Best decision I made that week! I spoke to Mimi who was very warm on the phone and very accommodating to my desire to come in on the following Saturday, which everyone knows is the busiest day salon wise. That leads me to today...Mimi called me this morning to confirm my appointment, which I thought was a great touch. I arrived with hair at my appointment time and she was very friendly. She showed me a book with pictures if her work and we discussed what I was looking for style wise. She promptly began working thereafter and showed me a sample braid to make sure it was what I wanted length wise. From there she got to work and time seemed to fly by. Mimi was done with my entire head (I got medium individuals) within 3 1/2 hours...record fast time for me! I also learned they provide takedown service as well, which I may definitely take advantage of. Bottom line, I have found my new braid location! I LOVE MY LONG KINKY TWISTS!!! I gave Mimi's Braid Boutique a try about a week and a half ago... best decision I have made. I called and Mimi was not able to fit me in but she passed me along to Cris. Not only did Cris set up a 6am appointment with me but she was there on time, focused, fast, neat, organized, relatable and affordable!! My husband loves my hair and so do I... Porche braided my hair on June 8th. I like her work and I have been getting many compliments. I called the main number after reading the reviews and the location is very close to me. I am so happy I did. She was very accommodating with my schedule. Gave me good vibes... She is very quick. She completed very small individual braids in five hours. I have sat for over 8 hours in the past, so those of you that know braids, the time Porche took is very quick. The prices are affordable as well. She did not braid too tight either. My braids are in there but will not make my edges fall out! This is very important ladies!! She is nice and very professional too. ALL the ladies in there ROCK. I recently visited Mimi's Braid Boutique to get my hair braided. Before having surgery the next week. First time there my appointment was with Cris. Cris did not waste any time with my individuals braid style . I was in at 12:30 and out at 4:30. She is exactly the type of stylist I needed. I came in today to bring my son in for 6 straight back braids.. it was a last minute thing and needed his hair braided within 2 hours.. & MiMi came to the rescue, she was able to tame my son, very very thick hair that most braiders can not do.. my son was satisfied with it which is all that matters! read more

So.. unfortunately, my 5 stars has turned into 1 star... Amber was doing my hair for about 1 year until she stopped returning my messages blindly, without warning. Our interactions were always lovely (from my opinion), but I do understand that we all interpret behavior differently and I may have done something to offend her that I may not have realized.. Long story short-- I am happy to admit when I make mistakes and after several contact attempts, I sent 1 last, very thoughtful message asking if everything was alright with her and if she could just clearly state whether she was still interested in doing my hair and still no response... Several months later, I tried to schedule an appointment at Mimi's with someone else. The appointment was booked, but then I get a call from Mimi a day before the appointment and she says she remembers that I was Amber's client and that she's cancelling the appointment I made and that NO ONE in her shop will do my hair because it's "too thick" and "not manageable" without being blow dried.. Several days earlier, I told her I would air dry before the appointment because I did not want to blow dry and cause heat damage. If you are a professional black hair salon, my opinion is that you should be able to work with all hair types including type 4C hair like mine.. The communication was also poor for soooo long and I wish someone was just clear with me from the beginning. Mimi never wants me to return without "blow dried" hair, but I will never return regardless. read more

My husband and I went in to get his hair braided. At first it didn't look like he could get it braided but Cris blow dried it out and she saw that it was barely long enough to braid! My original braider cancelled on me 10 minutes before my scheduled appointment. I had seen good reviews on Yelp, so I called this salon in a panic. Mimi answered and after sending pics of what I wanted, she scheduled me for 5:30 the same day! She was so accommodating and did a great job! And it only took 3.5 hours. I love this place. Mimi always takes care of me and my daughters when its time for braids. She is on time and works fast. The shop is clean and everyone is friendly. Although I've only had Mimi do my hair all the ladies at this shop have skills. Everyone walks out cute. I highly recommend this shop if you want to get braided right. read more

I was looking a braiding salon and came across mimi braiding Salon. Talk to Rene whom was very nice at first and that she was professional. Who calls new client hour before they hair to have them come to shop 6pm and not get out until 10pm at night. It unprofessional to call new client hour before to come at later time not knowing the client live in area or not. read more

What would you call a business whose proprietor initially (for a week) won't return a call when you are inquiring about a service and once you get them on the telephone, promises to call you back and doesn't--just ignores a potential client? I'd call them DISRESPECTFUL and that is what I'll say about Mimi's Braid Boutique. They showed me that they don't care. They most definitely are highly disrespectful. Beware. I made an appointment for the first time at this business. When I arrived I was greeted very nice by Mimi herself. She made me feel very welcomed! ... However my appointment was with Tonja, who from the getgo just made me feel I was more of a bother. Anyway, she was still pleasant and did my hair (just 1 track extension). After only a week it was already coming loose. I have been getting my hair done same thing for years and know that shouldn't happen. I don't wash my hair every day and I am very gentle because I want it to last. Anyway, I called and asked her to fix it for me, Well again, the other lady in the shop at that time was more friendly and helpful. Tonja just made me feel like a bother, and even charged me full price when she did not do a good job in the first place. I am a very nice and friendly person and never gave her any attitude whatsoever. It is really shitty to be treated so poorly when someone doesn't even know you...and she didn't even acknowledge she didn't do a good job. I would have given her a good tip for fixing my hair and appreciated her time. I will never go back now. Otherwise the other ladies there were very nice and pleasant! read more

Chris was great! I came on time for my hair appointment and she didn't have me wait a minute. It took about 2 hours and 45 minutes for pinkie size individuals on my tapered cut (shaved sides and back with long hair at the top). She was friendly and the price was reasonable. Her work is very neat and I'll definitely be back! read more

You wanna laugh all afternoon? Hang out with a bunch of sistahs and listen to the braiding horror stories. Getting braids isn't as always as easy as it sounds. A lot of braiders do it from their cribs, so you have to deal with the drama at their crib....crying kids, baby daddy drama, unchecked roach infestation, weed breaks, friends stopping by and ever changing prices. Most of these are unlicensed operations....duh. When I don't want to add fake hair into my 'fro my damn self, I go to Mimi's. She has a standing shop and there is no home braiding drama associated with getting your hair did. Her prices are fair, but I could not fathom paying someone 200 for a hairstyle that I could do myself. As a bonus, when you are finished and your face is pulled back into a permanent grimace, Liquor Land is in the same strip mall. read more

I read the mixed reviews, but decided to come in for a consultation anyway. I am so glad I did! I do not understand the 1 or 2 stars. I moved to Long Beach just over a yr ago. I have been searching for someone to do my mini twists. Some had me looking like Medusa. ...so I kept going to northern cal to get my hair done...That was before MIMI's. She took my hair down, colored and conditioned my hair . The next morning she twisted/braided it back up. She was personable and on time! Imagine that...one of our salons that actually take a client on time! This was the first time I was pleasantly pleased ! I noticed that other cosmeticians that rent booths were also excellent. There were a few ladies that came in to get their hair done and I could not tell if their hair was theirs or a weave! As I shared Mimi is reasonable, personable, professional...I will definitely be back! Job well done! read more

I recently browsed Yelp to locate a braider so I could give my daughter a break from the stress of the rough wrangling of my nappy hair. I was referred to Mi Mi's by a lady I met at the Carol's Daughter counter at Macy's. I decided to look on Yelp to see if I could find any feedback on this business and I saw the review of Mi Mi's and said I have to check it out. I WAS NOT disappointed. The young lady who braided my hair was helpful and professional. I seriously laughed the whole time I was there. Although I don't want to be in a beauty shop all day if I ever have to Mi Mi's would be the place.The shop was neat and clean and the stylists and braiders were professional and friendly. You can tell the group had respect for each other and their clients which is important. I will definitely be going back! read more

I heard of this place from a friend. Her braids are gorgeous. I booked my appointment with Dietra and she did a wonderful job. My appointment was at 4pm. I sitting in Dietra's chair by 3:58pm! On time hair salon! Very important. I was finished with complete individual braids by 6:30!!! I have A LOT of hair. Dietra is amazing and does terrific work. I HIGHLY recommend this place. read more

The parking situation was a little cramped. I got in and out, cheaper for me here than anywhere else and my hair was done well. Affordable quality is always great. I got my natural hair braided in two layers of cornrows/French braids but next time I'm definitely going for cornrows in the front and individuals in the back. Thanks Mimi!! read more

Mi Mi's Braid Boutique is heaven sent! As soon as I enter into the establishment I feel at home. All the stylists are professional, and their customer service is exceptional. Mi Mi is my stylist and she gives me what I want and goes above and beyond in making sure I am 100% satisfied. The environment is relaxing and that's important to me being a mom of two boys! I can get my hair braided and get a break from my boys. I feel safe because The Braid Boutique has a buzzer to let only customers in without being solicited by outsiders. Original : I know the stylists have their own way of booking or dealing with affairs apart of the salon but I think it's wild they have a rebooking fee of over $30 if client has to reschedule last minute their appointments BUT when I get my appointment canceled TWICE by the stylist ON THE DAY OF THE APPOINTMENT , due to "family emergencies" that apparently always happen. I think it's wild that a stylist can waste a clients time and day considering the first time it was canceled I had planned to get my hair cut before my birthday trip and today it got canceled I had just told my boss no to coming in for a shift because of my scheduled appointment ... what do we clients get in return besides wasted time and lost money ? At least she returned my $20 deposit that has been kept since August but damn , homegirl really needs to take care of home before taking appointments , we have a life out here too.

I just left this shop. Porche braided my hair. Overall it was an ok experience. She was about 13 minutes late but once she arrived I realized she had carpooled with her friend who also braids in the shop and I know how that can be sometimes. Her and her friend are pretty goofy which i didn't mind. they were talking & laughing with each other the entire hour and 1/2 I was there. I just got my natural hair braided into cornrows and she did an ok job but compared to the last 3 previous braiders I've had she's about the 3rd best. (I've been trying to settle down...just haven't found a good match :) It cost me $35 and I didnt tip because she was late. The shop isn't really ghetto either which is a plus! Like the last reviewer said they are some "sistah's"... not hoodrats! I may go back because of the convenience of the location but I'm probably not going to make this "my shop". Oh & I also liked that when she dropped the comb she didn't put it back in my head, she grabbed a new one - which she had to do twice. That was very considerate though!! Thanks Porche! 6/25/2010 I just had to take back 2 stars because of my latest experience with this shop. I went in for the same hairstyle as I did last time but I got a different braider. Her name was Monique. She was faster than Porche but in the end she charged me $45. I paid her what she asked and then asked Mimi if I could schedule an appointment 2 weeks out with one of her braiders that charge $35 for the style I got. Sounding puzzled she asked, "well what did she charge you?" I told her $45 & she blurted "probably because of the length of your hair". When I told her I just got my hair braided 2 weeks back and it was $35 she didn't say anything. Finally I just said nevermind.... Don't support this shop. The first time I went I was wearing a sweat suit. The 2nd time I went I was dressed professionally because I had an occasion to go to... I assume Monique felt like "I had it" this time and probably didn't recognize me from the first time I came into the shop so she charged more. I've seen it sooo many times! Especially when they see a caucasian walk in... all of a sudden prices hike up... SMH. I will NOT be going back to this shop. read more

I have not had my hair braided in more than a decade, and about 3 weeks ago, a good friend got her hair done. It looked so fabulous that I told her that I was going to copy her, and asked her where she got it done. She told me that she got it done at Mimi's Braid Boutique, and she was very impressed by everything, from the location, to the beautiful braiding, to the friendliness of the staff. That's really all I needed to hear, but I went on Yelp just to see any other reviews. Other than one crazy review, everything was positive. I got my hair done today, and it was a great experience. The staff was extremely professional and super friendly. I got my hair braided by Mimi herself, and she is wonderful! The atmosphere of the shop was so positive and I felt so relaxed! I got medium sized individuals, and it took so much less time than I thought it would! I am so happy with my experience! Nice, professional work, done by nice, professional people! I have gone through many milestones in my life while at the Braid Boutique including taking in my niece, losing my father, getting a cat and a dog (around the same time as Mimi and Kris got Sparkle) .... Black female owned salon, reasonable prices, and they can do any style imaginable. I normally get my hair braided. I originally had this appointment the first week of December but I had gotten my hair done by her sometime late summer (for the 1st time) and had just taken them out early fall, my scalp was still a little tender from that, so I decided to reschedule. And so I had to wait another month to get my hair braided. Which I didn't have a problem with as that's her policy, just context. Fast forward to today, my appointment is at 7am, she confirmed the night before. I have very thick, long 4c hair that I spent all night blow drying. Y'all know how it is. She braids in a tiny *ss room with no mirrors and zero conversation which was odd for a 7hour long appt. With the recent spikes in COVID, I wanted to check in and ask about her disinfecting in between clients and stuff. A very valid question that anyone would and SHOULD have. She should be proud of her taking care of her space as keeping clients safe. She then canceled my appointment. And canceled my call, refusing to communicate with me as to why she canceled when I hadn't requested that. And zero communication from then on out. The appointment I had waited 2 months for. I have a big feeling that she outed herself and she wasn't even disinfecting. Bc if she was, why would she cancel and why wouldn't she have a conversation about it? I never leave reviews, I usually don't speak up unless I have something nice to say bc I'm a huge fan of supported small, especially Black businesses, but this lady is shady asf and did me dirty. And y'all should know that she is possibly: Unsafe. And definitely: Unreliable and shady. {I also felt like when she braided my hair the first time, she used too much hair per part for the size I chose, which was the smallest option. It didn't come out as full as it usually does when I get braided. I totally understand the fact that you're not supposed to use more fake hair than real hair when it comes to the ratio of the braid, but being that I have thick hair, it would've looked cuter, more accurate to sizing, and lasted longer if less of MY hair was used. Could've done without the excessive amount of gel too.}
