I read the mixed reviews, but decided to come in for a consultation anyway. I am so glad I did! I do not understand the 1 or 2 stars. I moved to Long Beach just over a yr ago. I have been searching for someone to do my mini twists. Some had me looking like Medusa. ...so I kept going to northern cal to get my hair done...That was before MIMI's. She took my hair down, colored and conditioned my hair . The next morning she twisted/braided it back up. She was personable and on time! Imagine that...one of our salons that actually take a client on time! This was the first time I was pleasantly pleased ! I noticed that other cosmeticians that rent booths were also excellent. There were a few ladies that came in to get their hair done and I could not tell if their hair was theirs or a weave! I recently browsed Yelp to locate a braider so I could give my daughter a break from the stress of the rough wrangling of my nappy hair. I was referred to Mi Mi's by a lady I met at the Carol's Daughter counter at Macy's. I decided to look on Yelp to see if I could find any feedback on this business and I saw the review of Mi Mi's and said I have to check it out. I WAS NOT disappointed. The young lady who braided my hair was helpful and professional. I seriously laughed the whole time I was there. Although I don't want to be in a beauty shop all day if I ever have to Mi Mi's would be the place.The shop was neat and clean and the stylists and braiders were professional and friendly. From braids to fades.... The operators in this shop shine. Me, I usually get two inverted braids... ("Inga says Das is goot") when Mimi's finished with this classic style. Walk- ins beware! I had a event this month in October. I went into the Boutique to make an appointment. The stylist Mi Mi schedule on the date I selected was open no appointments. I chose 9 am on the date I selected. She called and left a message the day before . I called back got voice mail decided to just run in. She said her earlier appointment 7am was gonna take longer and needed to move my appointment. She was unconcerned with the inconvenience to me nor looking at her schedule for the up coming week or that day...I think because I was a walk in and maybe the hair style of her other client was more than $120. Detra braids exceptionally fast! She can complete a whole head of hair under 2 hours. Last time I visited her, she had me in and out in under an hour and half with a fill set of medium sized box braids! I like the environment. The fact that there's parking and the overall atmosphere of the establishment. The braid styles are a bit pricey--same price for all size box braids ($150) so you might as well get the smaller ones so they can last longer. read more

I got my pencil sized box braids done here for the first time a month ago. I was charged $160. That was $10 more than normal because my hair is long and thick. The installation took six hours. My stylist's name was Amber. She did a great job. She was very professional, and friendly. My braids have held up well, and I've gotten lots of compliments on them. read more

The first time I came to this place Tonja did my hair and she did a wonderful job. I was so happy and got so many compliments on my braids. Since I loved my braids so much the first time I decided to get them again and I wanted Tonja to do them again. Unfortunately she wasn't able to do them and recommended a girl named Cris. I messaged Cris right away and tried to set something up with her. From the getgo she was very slow in her responses. I finally just called her and we confirmed a day that would work for us. As soon as we hung up I texted her immediately asking for the address to the shop. She didn't respond and so I proceeded to text her again... no response. The next day rolls around and around 4 pm long behold I get a text from her saying she can't do my hair when my appt is tomorrow and I'm leaving out of the county on Friday!! Really??? Are you serious? Sooooo unprofessional. We had been messaging back and forth for about 3 days and finally confirmed the day and she goes and cancels on me the day before. The 2 stars isnt my review on Tonja. I would give her 5 alone if I could and she did an amazing job my first and probably only time I'll be going to that shop. Thanks for nothing, Cris. read more

I called Mimi's on a Thursday, a week before I needed to get my hair braided for a new job. The only day I had off was Sunday. I was sure that I wasn't going to get my hair done on Sunday because hair salons traditionally aren't open on Sundays. I am delighted to say that I was wrong. Cris braided my hair so well ON A SUNDAY, that I wanted to hug her. I think I did hug her. She was amazing professional. My appointment was at 10am. Cris was there at 9:57am. She is such a lovely person on the inside and out, but beyond that, she is an amazing braider. This is the third time I have been to Mimi's, but the first time Cris braided my hair. It will not be the last time she does it. She is flat out amazing. read more

Got my hair braided here yesterday, and i was pretty disappointed... its not done very tightly and has a lot of loose frizz around the top and especially in the back. doesnt really look like a professional did it.. chill atmosphere and the lady that did it was nice, but for my money, i would expect a little bit tighter and neater job.... read more

I traveled 3 hrs to this salon to do faux locs (as they were one of the only places that was available to do them when I needed). They charge $200 for the service, not including the $90 I spent on hair (as directed by the stylist). None of this would have been problem if we used all the hair & the style lasted me the proper amount of time. Not sure of my stylist name, however she was very unprofessional. She was snacking the whole time, on her phone, and took several breaks, causing my hair to take over 5.5 hrs! On top of that she sat on the counter to do my hair, so I was unable to watch in the mirror as she did it. After she finished the hair finally, I noticed that most of the faux locs were not wrapped tightly enough and you could see the braid peeking through. I worried that they would unravel so I brought it to her attention. She informed me there was "nothing she could do about that". Not even a week later , several of the braids had slipped out of the faux loc and began unraveling just as I had anticipated. I sent the stylist pictures & received no reply after 48 hrs, so I reached out to the owner. We scheduled an appointment to touch up on the hair, so I had to make another 3hr trip to long beach to get my hair fixed. On my way there the stylist said she had booked someone else for that time! How unprofessional! Luckily the owner was around to fix the mess on my head. However, even after her fixing it, I am still constantly dealing with unraveling faux locs & braids showing through. This salon over charges for a style they have not mastered in & could work on their customer service! I will give props where due: My friend got her hair done with box braids & they looked phenomenal. I definitely wouldn't recommend faux locs here, but braids are okay! read more

I first would like to say that I OVERALL like this place! I recently got my twist done here and unfortunately after 2 weeks I have had 5 slide out. I don't know if it's the style or what, but I do know that when I get regular individual braids they last much longer. The one thing that keeps me coming back is my braider never trims up each braid for neatness! When I take my hair down I don't have to worry about my hair being different lengths. read more

Deedee was my hair stylist and I honestly cannot wait to go back again. Without a doubt one of the best braiding experiences I have ever had. I have thick natural hair that is usually difficult to wash and blow, but Deedee managed this with such care and gentleness. She was very fast with braiding too - only took about 4.30 hours for single braids which came out very neat ! I would recommend Deedee to anyone that needs to get their hair done, this was the best, least painful hair experience I have ever had. I got my hair done yesterday by Crys, the owner's daughter. She was amazing. I am from South Carolina and was a little scared to get my hair braided but Crys made me feel comfortable and explained how to treat my braids and she made sure that I liked my hair as she was braiding it. Usually it takes 10 to 12 hours to get my hair braided but it only took her 6 hours. I would definitely recommend Mimi's boutique, it is a nice atmosphere and it beats going to someone's house to get your hair braided. Will definitely be coming back. read more

I wouldn't get my braid done anywhere else or from any other people ! I went to MiMi's because I'm fairly new to the area. The pros are that there are several stylists who will work late with no problem. The braiding styles were amazing! The con--their prices are crazy if you are getting anything other than braids. They charge $10 extra to wash your hair! Yes-- washes are NOT included in any style. The shampoo/conditioner was not salon quality. I went to a great stylist (she is really sweet) for natural hair and was satisfied with her price of $45 the first time I went. I went back a second time, she was a half hour late, no biggie, but the kicker was that this time she raised the price to $55 and didn't even tell me until the job was done. Is it just me or shouldn't you let the customer know you intend to charge more in advance? I was quoted $65 as the base price for a press by another stylist. The folks at MiMi's are nice but the economy is definitely playing a factor in their business practices. read more

VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! I arrived on time for my appt. for crochet braids. I waited about an hour and 45 min for her to finish her relative's hair who she had spent the whole day with. When I finally had gotten into the chair she braided my foundation and wrapped the long part across the middle of my head! (should be at the bottom). She started to apply the hair and separated each strand where the hair became real fuzzy/frizzy. By the time she was done it felt like a mop was on my head and the braid across the middle of my hair made my head look huuuuge. The part in the front was not filled in correctly either. I arrived at 4pm, and did not leave until after 9pm. I was not a happy camper! The next morning was a nightmare..my corn rows were very loose and hair was already falling out. Also the knots were becoming undone all throughout my head. I had to go back the following night from OC to have her fix what she could. She then added more hair and tried to tighten the corn rows. It really was not fixable. This all started on a Wed., and I ended up taking them out myself on Sat. morning! All in all it was a waste of $155 and about 6 gallons of gas! Not recommended read more

Cris did a great job with my daughter's braids. She's 2 1/2 and it's very hard to find anyone who will work on young kids. Cris was patient (during the meltdown half way thru) and fast. She even had stickers for her. We'll be back for sure! read more
