This is one of my favorite restaurants in the area and one I recommend to anyone who enjoys Asian cuisine. It's helpful to have a reservation on weekends but not always necessary if you're willing to roll the dice. This restaurant is an extraordinary find! The food is Vietmanese, but whit a Chinese influence. All ingredients are sourced and prepared by a member of the family. The creativity in the dishes and quality are world class, and I've lived in NYC for over a decade and dined in numerous world capitals. First time here on a Thursday night around 7:30pm. Service was excellent. I wasn't a fan of the steamed dumplings at all but my pho was pretty good as were the spring rolls. The fried rice with egg was good too. The others in my party got the calamari and they said it was good. Maybe it's because we did takeout. Maybe this is just something the locals like. Either way, I was so not impressed. They get an 'A' for presentation because the food was beautifully packaged. Here's what we ordered: -Vietnamese Egg Rolls: we got 2 orders since they looked fabulous and 1 order only comes with two egg rolls. Very crunchy, which I thoroughly loved. The flavor, not so much. I was so underwhelmed with the lack of flavor in these egg rolls, even after dipping in the sauce. I couldn't eat a whole one. -Shrimp Stir Fry: loved the abundance of vegetables. Loved that the shrimp were jumbo. Didn't love that there were only 5 shrimp. Also didn't love the lack of flavor in the brown sauce. I'm thinking soy sauce, fish sauce and garlic will have this dish packed with flavor and goodness. It was so bland. And after the 5 shrimp were gone there was still a full container of vegetables left. -Chicken Dumplings: Saved the best for last! These were my absolute favorite. The only thing I devoured. So much flavor and the dipping sauce is fantastic. I would go back and order these, and these alone. And you get 6 in an order which is a decent amount. Very delicious. We also ordered plain fried rice, which my husband enjoyed and the stir fry came with plain white rice. I will drive further out to eat at a better Vietnamese restaurant. Our go to local place for fresh Vietnamese/Asian food. Food is always great, veggies are fresh and owners are awesome. My go to is the chicken stir fry with basil sauce or the house vermicelli bowl. Vietnamese egg rolls are also great. Highly recommended. read more

While staying at the nearby Doubletree hotel we found Lang on Yelp. I had a spring cold and just needed a warm bowl of soup. Our waitress was so nice and friendly (Cloe maybe, I'm old sorry but young with short blondish hair). We had a great conversation with her. Sherry had the beef meatball pho. So good and flavorful with a rich broth - the cornerstone of a good Pho. I had chicken Pho with rice noodles. Just like mother would make if my Italian mother was really Vietnamese! Lovely setting with beautiful art. Thoroughly enjoyed our evening there. read more

After five years, the restaurant formerly known as Hong Thanh returned to its original location on N. 6th Street in 2017 under the new name, "Lang," named after owner Lang Huynh. Still intact is the same great menu we all know and love, which includes an assortment of dishes that reflect Lang's own style of cooking that combines traditional Vietnamese with classical French cuisine. So yeah, there's your standard pho selection, but you'll also find sauteed filet mignon cubes with garlic butter on the menu. I'm a little disappointed that they no longer serve frog legs. But I'll attribute that to Berks County residents' penchant for conservative eating habits, preferring to go with the "tried-and-true" rather than trying something new. Service can be a bit rocky at times, but it is markedly improved over years past. Still insisting on comically small water glasses, it may take four or five passes by a staffer to notice it's in need of replenishment. But there's no doubt team effort is encouraged now more than ever before. In my last visit, we had about three or four front-of-house staff (in addition to our server) stop by at different times either running food, clearing dishes, or refilling drinks. All in all, everyone was working as one cohesive, harmonious unit, and it was definitely appreciated. To cut to the chase, Lang is simply the finest Vietnamese restaurant in town. Make reservations on weekends, as this place fills up fast. There's no dedicated parking lot, so you'll need to test your luck finding a spot on the street. If there's an event in town and you really can't find any street parking, you can always try the Reed and Court Garage about a block down the road going east on Court Street. Additionally, it's an 8 minute walk from the Santander Arena and a stone's throw from the Double Tree Hilton Hotel. So if you're in town for a show, this could be the perfect pre-show dinner spot. read more

Guys. It's back. I loved the Court Street location when this was still under the Hong Thanh name. I had my favorite appetizers (the dumplings and the Vietnamese egg rolls) and they did not disappoint. I had the chicken dumplings but they come in several tasty versions. The egg rolls are better than ANYWHERE ELSE. Roll them in the lettuce, dip and enjoy. I had the chicken and vegetables in brown sauce for my entree. Slightly different than I remember? Still good but not 5 stars. My service was friendly and well paced. read more

Mustard green salad was delish per usual but the chicken fried rice entree ordered by my grandson was just that...rice with a few lives of chicken...no scallions, mushrooms, onion...anything else. My veg with lime ginger sauce was actually inedible in that vegs were raw and someone neglected to taste the sauce. I brought it home hoping it would somehow magically improve by next day's lunchtime but no luck. I had to throw it away. Service was not good: slow and we had to ask fir more water and extra napkins a total of 3 times. Yikes...this place used to be aces in every aspect. read more

So disappointed. Maybe it's a new location under new ownership but the food quality has fallen. We ordered our usual meal -- takeout -- and our chicken lettuce wrap was pork. And, dry, burnt pork. Called the restaurant and they first admitted the issue was a problem in the kitchen but put us on hold and hung up. Next call we were told it was "dark chicken" and they were not going to replace it. End of story. Sad a good restaurant has gone downhill. read more

I met an old friend there for dinner tonight and absolutely loved it! The space on 6th street was modern but welcoming. I got shrimp stir fry, which was really good! The food was absolutely amazing. Tasty and all around good eats!!!! Now the down fall. Without a doubt the worst service I ever experienced. No plates to start. Then no napkins. Then no salt or pepper. When she brought the extra salt the shakers were empty. Then she asked if we wanted dessert or coffee and had only been 5 minutes into our meal. Upon completion of the meal she brought bill. Then came back with credit card machine and couldn't print out receipt. Horrible service. But food was out of the world. People know how to say "Lang," haha. Menu -- and prices -- are the same, and it is BYOB again, whee! The rice vermicelli bowl is still $8. They have an alternative for the fish sauce for vegan diners; add steamed tofu for an extra $1. Their veggie dumplings are incredible as are the cold veg rolls with peanut sauce. I have been eating here for about 20 years and guess I will follow them wherever they go. Currently, only the left side is open. Leave extra time for parking (best to carpool it in if you don't live close), and thank you for supporting the city of Reading. read more

This is fabulous, delicious, beautiful and inventive Vietnamese cuisine. When our entire family gets together, we head to Lang's. With a combination of omnivores, pescatarians, vegetarians, vegans, and picky eaters in our group, Lang's feeds us all. There is a widely varied menu, and the specials list is always a happy surprise for me. The desserts are worth looking at before you order your meal, because you will want to save room. I like their return to the former bookstore on the corner of 6th and Court Streets. I have never had trouble finding on-street parking near the restaurant during dinner hours. My only issue is with the noise level. The decor is clean, but the hard floors and high ceilings make an echo chamber in which even a few small groups make a lot of noise. I will return to Lang's many times, and am sure to have a delicious meal every time. read more

Excellent restaurant. Easily one of the best in downtown Reading if not the best. They do every thing. The Pho will warm your soul. My favorite dish is the steak and watercrest. It's fantastic! But I have yet to have any food item that was less than great. They can get overwhelmed at times and communication breaks down almost like they forget. But at most it will cost you an extra 10 minutes or so. read more
