Great hand pulled noodle with deep and complex flavored soup! My noodle was a bit overcooked so it was soft and swelled, but my friend's was perfectly chewy and bouncy. Another Chinese noodle place added to the Boston area. I've passed by Lan Feast a few times and saw that it was always packed inside, piquing my curiosity. I came with a party of 4 during weekend lunch time. They don't take reservations but they do have a waitlist system where you can put your number down and get notifications of where you are in line. We were seated relatively quickly but be prepared to wait a bit. The inside is very new, aesthetic, and modern -- i think pretty typical of newer Chinese restaurants. Menus are via QR code at the table. We ordered a Szechuan fried chicken bites to share (辣子鸡）and each got our own noodle bowl. Their signature is the Lanzhou beef noodle soup which you can customize based on noodle width, spiciness, scallion or cilantro presence. The food was great honestly, no flaws. The wait staff was a bit behind with orders and getting water out but I'll chalk that up to being new. Hopefully they get more efficient with experience. read more

Saw this new restaurant in Brookline and decided to give it a try as Lan Zhou noodle soup has been gaining popularity in Boston. It's a casual dining spot and the business has its liquor license. For the Lan Zhou soup you could choose noodle thickness, which is the first I've seen in the Boston area. I ordered the extra wide noodles which were thinner and my friend ordered the thick noodles which had more of a chew. The broth was flavorful, but not spicy even though I had ordered the spiciest level on the menu. We also ordered a shredded veggie dish which was pretty good and a yam with a blueberry sauce which was interesting (probably wouldn't order again). Service was fairly good, they had enough staff to support all the waiters and wasn't too busy when we walked in. Overall would go again occasionally. read more

I have visited his establishment for three times now and I'm always amazed at how good the food is. I ordered the hand pulled chili chili oil noodles and the garlicky string beans. The food is fresh and very tasty . My only issue is that they are so popular that sometimes is hard to get a seat or place an order . Of course that is just a testament of how really good they are . Got the Lanzhou Beef Noodles (regular everything), and they were absolutely delicious. The regular spice level had a nice kick... I shudder to think what "hot" would be like! The broth was rich, the noodles perfectly chewy, and everything came together beautifully. The green tea was surprisingly world-class. Fragrant and clean, not an afterthought like in most places. I was excited to try this new hand pulled noodle place in Coolidge corner, but was slightly disappointed after coming. I came with a friend on a Thursday night and the restaurant was full of people. They have an interesting layout with a bar in the middle and tables around the edge of the restaurant. We sat at the bar and scanned the QR code to view the menu. We ordered fried oyster mushrooms, lamb skewers, beef hand pulled noodles extra wide, and garlic green beans. The fried oyster mushrooms had so much batter on them, that the mushroom wasn't even featured. The lamb skewers were okay, nothing great, but a lot of the spicy seasoning on them. The hand pulled noodles were inconsistent and definitely not extra wide. The consistency also wasn't soft or chewy noodle. They had a video showing their noodles being made on one of the TV screens and that is what I expected to have from the bowl of noodles, but in reality it was far from it. The best part of the meal was the garlic green beans. You can taste and smell the stir fry which made the green beans crunchy to eat. I came here with my mom and we ordered the braised lamb shank (黄焖羊羔肉), hand pulled beef noodles with thick noodles, and sauteed cauliflower with garlic chives. The noodles were chewy and soup was pretty good as well, but not that memorable. We especially loved the braised lamb shank, as the lamb was super flavorful and tender. However, there were many tiny shards of hard bones which made it difficult to eat. The portion was huge though, and it lasted us 2 more meals. The menu does clearly label chili oil hand pulled noodles as being vegan, and after asking ther server we were able to find other veggie entrees & appetizers that are vegan as well! We ordered the cauliflower & chives + chili oil hand pulled noodles. Let me tell you, they were both so delicious... Cauliflowers were SO fresh and yummy and the dish felt incredible well seasoned, savory and crunchy. It would go great with a side of white rice next time. Lan Feast is a new addition to the Boston food scene and they're already doing so well! They were sooo busy even though they're only in their soft opening right now. Because of that, the service was a bit slow :/. I love the ambiance though. Gives classier vibes. They have tons of options, but are known for the Lanzhou beef noodle soup and other noodles. What's great about this place is that you can CHOOSE the thickness/type of noodles you want in most dishes!! For food, we got beef noodle soup with wide noodles, chili oil hand pulled noodles, braised lamb shank, szechuan fried chicken, and the ice cream with jelly. Beef noodle soup was what I was most excited for but it was disappointing.. The broth was very light and the flavor wasn't really there. I also wish I got the thinner noodles bc the noodles quickly absorbed the broth and got soggy. I liked the chili oil noodles though! The texture of these noodles were great and the chili oil was spicy. I wish there was more sauce and veggies because it got bland at times. Also it doesn't come with meat. Lamb shank dish was awesome. We liked the noodles in this dish more than the other 2 LOL because there was a mix of glass noodles and hand-pulled noodles. The glass noodles were sooo chewy- I wish we had more. The lamb was super tender and the sauce was a bit sweet while being packed with umami. Szechuan chicken was fire too. They definitely use the whole chicken because there were lots of bones so be careful. It also wasn't as spicy as it looks but the peppercorn was super apparent. I loveddd the dessert. Absolutely terrible experience at Lan Feast, and things have only gotten worse over time. I've been here many times, but each time something goes wrong. The first time, our table was extremely wobbly and they refused to switch it for us. The second time, the noodles were much worse than before. Another time, a dish I ordered never came--even after explaining to the staff, they just said "not sure if it was given to someone else or never ordered," but I was still charged for the drink on my bill. But my most recent visit was the last straw. I sat at the bar and waited at least 15 minutes before anyone came to take my order. Meanwhile, people who arrived after me got served first. When a server finally came over, they seemed impatient and rushed us to order, even saying they were "too busy" to make the drink I wanted. It took 15 minutes just to get water, while the staff chatted with others nearby. When it was time to order, they talked so fast I could barely understand and kept rushing us: "That's it, right?" This isn't just the occasional mistake--it's a consistent lack of respect for customers. I will never be coming back and I'm putting this place on my personal blacklist. There's no reason to go somewhere that makes eating a meal such a headache. read more

I love the noodle soup and the noodle, however, the beef in the noodle is stale. It is tasted like the beef absorbing odors from the fridge (the one missing star is because of that). I'm shocked at how rude our server was. We waited a long time before anyone came to take our order. When she finally arrived, she spoke so quickly that it was hard to follow, cut me off while I was speaking, switched between English and Chinese in the middle of sentences, and entered several items incorrectly. She did not repeat the order back, did not slow down when asked, and moved on to other tables without confirming what we said. When I tried to correct the mistakes, she brushed it aside and said she was busy. There was no apology or acknowledgment, and she repeatedly served guests who had just arrived while we were still waiting for help. I have eaten here many times and have not seen this server before. Past visits were smooth and friendly, which makes tonight stand out in a very negative way. What bothered me most was the pattern of rushing and not listening. A restaurant can be busy and still treat guests with basic courtesy. I hope management reviews training for order accuracy, confirmation, and table priority, and reminds staff to slow down, listen, and apologize when service falls short. Honestly so salty that I didn't want to finish it. The broth lacked depth and left me searching for flavor aside from salt. It was mostly noodles which I felt wasn't anything special in particular even though they're hand-pulled. There were only a few pieces of beef, so for $16 it wasn't worth the price. Tea was average so I don't recommend it. Service was a little slow and they seemed overwhelmed, but the server was nice and as attentive as they could be. I came on the opening weekend, lots of people. Lan Zhou Wide Noodle Soup - this had nice soup which was on the lighter side in terms of flavor but quite comforting, there was beef maybe 3 thin pieces, and noodles. The wide noodles were not particularly wide maybe fettuccini width, so if you are used to xian bian bian wide noodles I recommend extra wide. The lamb for me was left more to be desired when it came to flavor and more bones than meat itself although it was nice to chew on, the veggies are simple like mostly raw onion and bell peppers. The best dish was the mustard green and duck fried rice, it had a great duck flavor and the mustard green balanced very well. The service wasn't great but I may be picky as it was very busy. First off they use the tiny tea cups and not all tables had water pitchers so I drank my water is one gulp and had to wait 10-20 minutes for waiter to come back and ask for more water. You should either have a water pitcher on every table, have bigger water glasses, or give complimentary tea to every table. As right now the water with tea cups is not a great customer experience. I also didn't like how several of the high top tables were missing napkins, menu QRs, and soy sauce / chili, while the tables next to me had it so I had to ask, I recommend every table having the same accommodations. I ordered 4 items to go: Hand Pulled Noodles with chili oil (mild) Stir Fried Noodles with Beef (mild), Green Beans and Eggplant and Scallion Pancake. By the time we ate the hand pulled noodles a couple hours later they were severely dried out with not much flavor. The Stir fried noodles with beef ordered mild was still too spicy. The location is gorgeous as far as interior goes and as someone who was dining alone, the bar space was perfect for myself. Everyone was super nice to but the food is what really made me write this.
