Five stars for Ed Uhey. Here is why: My ceiling fan stopped responding to its remote control. After replacing the batteries in the remote to no effect, I located the manual online and figured the receiver quit working. I called the manufacturer whose tech support concurred and provided a part number needed for me to place an order with a distributor of my choosing. Amazon showed the part, but I wanted to vote with my dollars and buy local. My in-laws, who reliably make amazing suggestions, directed me to Lamps Plus. Problem is, and I can't understand why, Lamps Plus was nearly 2x more expensive than Amazon. The salesperson who took my initial call offered no compromise. Uncharacteristically, I decided to try again, and circled back in-person one night after work - perhaps because my in-laws are seldom wrong. Ed went over and beyond my expectations, offering troubleshooting advice, researching alternatives, and ultimately - without drama - price matched Amazon which solved my issue and reinforced my belief that some people roaming Earth still remain committed to delivering superlative customer service and can demonstrate technical proficiency in the products they retail. Ed - Thank you for being good at what you do, and please coach your colleagues who answer your phones to stop surrendering business to Amazon because they didn't have the mental stamina to offer a price match and thereby secure decades worth of continued patronage from a customer who values relationships and loyalty. read more

After researching ceiling fans online and becoming confused, our electrician sent us to the Pleasant Hill Lamps Plus store. We needed a low profile lamp with a light that could also be controlled remotely. It was so helpful to see the fans in person and to discuss them with sales representative, Jacqueline. She was knowledgeable and took time to ask us questions about our needs without being pushy. Her experience and patience allowed us to zero in on a fan to fit our specifications and we were in and out of the store within an hour, thanks to her kind and efficient service! There's absolutely no reason to shop at this store. The customer service is terrible. Took 15 minutes for a sales person to help me. They advertised up to 50% off lamps, but when I picked out a lamp I was told it wasn't on sale. When I began to question her, she couldn't give me a straight answer and was very flippant. I won't mention names in this review; I don't want to get them in trouble. The sales person AND the assistant manager are useless. Then they didn't have the lamps in stock after telling me they did. Overall just very bad customer skills. Shop lamps online. There's really no need for these retail stores anymore. It's just a matter of time before retail is gone; and you know what.......I'm all for it. There's no customer service anywhere quite frankly. I'd much rather shop online than deal with arrogant and dumbass salespeople. read more

There is something for everyone here. I do like the selection of light bulbs. On the downside they don't seem to have enough people on the floor to help customers. I didn't mind that I was going to have to wait to ask about a fixture I took a fancy too. I did mind that they did not take people in the order they were in line. This review is long overdue for the fantastic customer service from Michael Dubois. We have been helped by Michael on multiple occasions, and it is always a wonderful and positive experience. He is super friendly, and I immediately feel comfortable when talking with him about the different products and options. We purchased some Fallbrook Light Fixtures that my husband helpfully renamed the "H" lights, and Michael was kind enough to know what he was talking about and help us when the product was out of stock. Michael also had good recommendation about lightbulbs, because when you are spending extra money on the fixture, you should not cheapen the look with a bland bulb. A long time ago I once came in here looking for whatever. I was shocked by the prices and walked out. I couldn't even understand how a store like this could remain open? On this recent trip I was in the market for a floor lamp to put in my living room. It's our new house and I'm slowly designing the interior. I was looking for silver and chrome metal accents. When I searched online Lamps Plus kept coming up with the styles I was looking for. When I walked in I found the perfect lamp and was not shell shocked by the price at all. The prices are considerably better than the last time I came in years ago. They also have more than just lamps. There was unique artwork, really nice mirrors, decorative pillows, furniture and the misc. nick nack things. Help wasn't pushy and the same lady just checked on me as I perused. She got my lamp from the back while I kept walking around. Also, they carry every crazy light bulb you could imagine. I never knew that. I've had instances where I need a light bulb and can't find it anywhere. Now I know where. Once I'm closer to fine tuning the details of my living room decor I'm coming back for the little things. read more

We came into Lamps Plus searching for a ceiling fan for our bedroom and a dining room light fixture after we had some electrical updates on our house. The staff here are extremely friendly and knowledgeable and asked several questions in order to make sure that it fit our room size, matched our decor, etc. This place has a huge selection of light fixtures and fans to choose from. The items in the store are reasonably priced and the light fixture we picked out was discounted even more than what it was priced on the tag when we got to the register. Up until yesterday I have not enjoyed shopping in this store because they loudly greet/pounce on you as soon as you walk in, want to know your name immediately, follow you around and I found it really unhelpful and intrusive. I wish they would change this intense sales strategy and encourage employees to "read" the customer when they walk in or ask if they want help or just want to look around first. I've left so many times in the past because it was too much! Yesterday I avoided the first person to do this and then was later approached in a relaxed, pleasant low key manner by Jacqueline. She has changed my view of shopping here and I will be making a point of only seeking her out when I come back!! They do have a great selection of all kinds of lamps and accessories like fans, chairs and mirrors, knick knacks which is why I keep coming back. With shopping I enjoy just walking around and sometimes finding something other than just what I came in for. Often I want to just look around first and then if I want help I'll ask! I hope this review will encourage other employees to step back sometimes, just allow shoppers some time to browse and take in all this store has to offer and then approach us as Jacqueline did. read more

My husband and I went into Lamps Plus to buy bathroom and kitchen lights and a few mirrors. Payam met us at the door. We knew the colors we wanted and thought we would just grab a few lights and such and be done. Payam patiently walked us through the process of picking out lights, mirrors and fans and we are so happy with the results. We have shopped several times at Lamps Plus and always have had great customer service. This time it was ever better. Jacqueline introduced herself and ask how she could address us. She was enthusiastic in helping us for our selection in the type of lamp we were interested in. She took us to the area and asked our criteria for the lamp, and then let us take our time to decide. She said she would check back or if we were ready, just come up front. I went up to get her, she came back and explained more about the lamp we chose. We had very specific questions which she could answer professionally. We were in and out of the store in about 45 minutes with our purchase in hand. The store is fine but do NOT use their electric department. A rip off. I felt they overcharged me to put in some outdoor sensor lights. The electrician did not adjust them correctly and would not return my calls to come out and correct the problem. I would go to the store again, but next time will hire my own electrician. Horrible customer service: you are warned! Called multiple times for a specific light. It was on its website and they confirmed that they had two in stock (one on three floor). Went there to buy and they didn't have it. Tom and Wendy need to do their homework and ensure their stock before wasting time. Asked Tom if they can give free next day shipping because of this. He said no an offered the used light from the floor (no box and instructions) for 10% off. He valued my time at $12!!! Disappointed.... Never again will consider place. read more

Went in yesterday because we needed lighting for two bedrooms where we were having electrical updates done a lot sooner than we expected and wanted to get ceiling lights put in instead of floor lamps. Loved the large selection of drum lighting at Lamps Plus. We had gone to Walnut Creek Lighting Company just before and their selection wasn't quite modern enough for us and the prices were a bit higher than we wanted to pay. Donovan helped me and my husband out and he was very helpful in helping us with our lamp selection and also the selection for bulbs since we wanted to make sure it was bright enough in our dark rooms. Only awkward part was part way through someone else who worked there started yelling kind of rudely at him and he kept saying he was helping a customer and that person maybe didn't here and kept yelling for him to get back to the front until she realized he was helping us. We definitely plan to go back for more lamps when we get the rest of our side tables and nightstands and I am already eyeing new lighting for our dining room. I love my new house but the owners were quite a bit older and their taste different from those of mine and my husband. Note: Google Maps will take you a round about way to this location- it had us loop around some long back road behind the Target and through an area with a lot of apartment complex when you can just turn onto Contra Costa Blvd after getting off the freeway and make a left turn into their parking lot. read more

I recently renovated my home office. It was a long process and the final task was finding a new ceiling light fixture. I looked at a number of online lighting retailers and was frankly overwhelmed with the number of options and was nervous about buying a fixture without being able to see it and evaluate the quality first hand. I happened to be driving by Lamps Plus in Pleasant Hill and decided to stop in to look without any expectation of actually buying anything. First, I looked at semi-flush ceiling lights, but didn't find anything that really moved me. The sales manager, Azher, asked if I had considered a ceiling fan and showed me several options. Ultimately, I found a beautiful Monte Carlo fan which finishes the home office perfectly. Additionally, it provides much improved air circulation which I never realized was lacking. Azher was wonderful to work with. He listened to my needs, presented options, was not pushy, and ultimately gave me a great deal and excellent service. I'd like to offer an update on my negative review for Lamps Plus. Finally after many months of waiting for replacements for defective pendant globes and then receiving them as incomplete I did receive what I have asked for. I must say that the folks at Lamps Plus have been helpful when I've reached out to them. I guess we can't always expect that a purchase will go the way we'd like it to but at least they finally made good on getting me my replacements, although in parts that I have to assemble, but it's not a problem. We bought three fans and two ceiling lights recently and while in the store, the $300 fans were completely silent, when installed by a master electrician, all three buzz loudly. It's either pay to take them all out after paying to install and return, or live with it. Very disappointing. Out of the two ceiling lamps, one had clearly been installed previously and they had butchered the wires and foil. Not what we would expect from what supposedly is a quality store. We had a better experience with our purchases from Lowes. read more

When I moved my little Monte Carlo ceiling fan ended up with a broken blade. The manufacture wouldn't sell the blades directly to me, I called around to all the vendors that they suggested on their website, no one was willing to order the blades for me, until I got ahold of Azher over the phone. He looked up the part number, verified it was the correct part I needed, placed the order over the phone and shipped it to my home for no cost. I had the blades less than a week later. read more

I had ordered a chandelier and a recessed light converter. I was very hesitant about ordering from the store since they didn't have it in stock. I wanted to order it from the web because technically it's the same thing with a much better accountability. The agent told me not to do that as it helps the store stay open if I order it from the store. She promised I would receive it in few days. Now five days later the converter is not delivered. When I called to talk to Tom (the store manager) all he can tell me is that It's "in release" status. No idea what that means. When I asked to cancel that order he said I have to wait until it's delivered and then return it to the store. Waste of time if you ask me. read more

ATTENTION: Lamp Plus Management!!! Do something like training for your staff dealing customer service. Ridiculous experience. Selection wise, you guys have something unique. But people that works there needs some pleasing personality. Lack of communication. I'm supposed to get a phone call when my item is ready to be pick up. What end up happened was I had to call you guys to find out if my item is ready to be pick up after a week or longer. When I called up the store I heard from the background passing the phone to one person to another. Shows irresponsible people. In addition, 2 out of 3 items I bought are damaged. Crystal balls are cracked and light bulb is not working at all. Dinning light the crystal plate comes with it is cracked in half big time.
