    Triple Decker House Club Sandwich
    Darolyn B.

I haven't been here in years, I don't know why. The food is fabulous. I got the triple decker sandwich, 1/2 fries and 1/2 onion rings. They did not skimp on the meat, even plenty of bacon. I will definitely be a return customer.

Maybe veggie omelette with home fries and Homemade Cinnamon Roll
    Charlie R.

I ordered takeout that cost around 35 dollars. I got chicken fried steak and just a standard egg, bacon, potatoes and pancake breakfast. They sent me a 12 dollar veggie omelet and a big cinnamon roll. I figured Aw what the heck i dont want to waste it. The onion and bell peppers were chopped to a inconsistent medium to large dice in the potatoes They were seared on the edges, but very undercooked. The potatoes tasted like a baked potato chopped up into chunks. It literally had no salt or pepper at all. The omelet and the side of breakfast potatoes were not seasoned at all. The potatoes were probably pre-boiled with skins still intact and then heated up on a skillet with the bell peppers and onions with no oil. Very bland. . The omelette was cold and the juices from tomatoes in veggie omelette were seeping into the omelet so it was watery and cold. It was weird to bite into egg and have cold tomato juice run out. The cinnamon roll was stale as hell and, just warm on arrival. You can't give people a several day old cinnamon roll and pop it in a microwave for 30 seconds and try to trick people into thinking it was fresh. Absolute trash food and I'm glad I got a refund for receiving the wrong order. 2 stars for the effort and portion size for the price? Relatively cheaper than other breakfast places in the area. Omelet probably would have been good if it was fresh and cooked properly. Im guessing they prep their veggies and keep them cold on the side. Seems like they tossed cold ingredients into cooked eggs and pulled the omelet before the veggies were heated up. . I wound up not eating the rest and I am driving to breakfast somewhere else.

Chilaquiles w/eggs & cinnamon roll french toast.

First off the food has been better lately than at some points in recent years. Have come here on and off for over a decade. Just recently met their new waitress, Heather, who was holding down the entire restaurant along with one chef. The food was good, came out in a timely fashion, and the service she provided was stellar. We were instantly captivated by her engaging manner, friendliness and attentive responses. Some needs were anticipated before even asked. Something about her not only had our table raving, but tables that filled in around us. We were all engaged in thanking her for her amazing attitude. This might sound exaggerated, but Heather was very genuine and single-handedly up-leveled the whole dining experience for every table in our vicinity.

Our awesome server Heather made it a great experience. This was a super find as we traveled through my hometown of Lakeside, CA.

Surely they are masters at greasy bacon and eggs, day old coffee, and probably little else. Wrong. Very wrong. This place may look a little ordinary from the outside but there is nothing ordinary about it. It may look like a classic diner inside but it does not sling food like an old diner. The menu is well-written and the food is high quality, excellent, and borderline gourmet. Do not order eggs, bacon, and toast here. Swing for the cheap seats. We tried the Ham, Avocado and Tomato Eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce was fantastic. If I didn't care about remaining somewhere under 350 pounds, I would return every Saturday and eat my way through every single eggs benedict concoction on the menu and there are many such benedict creations from which to choose. The Banana Nutella crepe, with "whip" cream (not "whipped," apparently, we're gentle with our cream here, folks), was decadent. If you like your breakfasts on the sweet side, you will enjoy this one. The Tres Porkitos omelet (made with ham, bacon, sausage, and cheese) was hearty and just as good as it sounds. The breakfast potatoes were very nicely done but could have used a little more seasoning. There is a salt shaker (and numerous hot sauces) on the table for just these types of emergencies. Do NOT leave here without getting a freshly-made biscuit with butter and honey on the side. You have made a serious error in judgment if you leave without getting one of these. Even the freshly-squeezed orange juice was delicious. Our server was wonderful. No complaints. They have dining inside or on the patio. Encinitas is a delightful community. While I loved the old school diner feel inside, you cannot go wrong with the people watching outside on one of our almost always sunny days in So Cal. If you live here, you already pay the Sunshine Tax so get your money's worth and sit outside, if you can. 10 stars.

So we got back a second time and sit down to order, "Chicken and waffles please" - they are out of chicken. Oof! Strike 1. That sucks. She was disappointed but she got something else and we shrugged it off. Then about 2 weeks back we came in again... this time I asked first, "Do you have chicken for the chicken and waffles?" They are out of waffles. Oof! Strike 2! And isn't it just batter? I don't get it. We didn't stay that time because my daughter was visibly sad this time. So I think we are done trying or else this just becomes a running gag we try to get out of, like Groundhogs Day or something... Atmosphere: It's cozy inside. I love all of the details, like the wood carvings and all of the bear stuff. It's like you're in a log cabin. And I like that they have paper menus and throw them away (because plastic reusable menus are germ magnets). The newspaper-esque theme is pretty cool too. Price: It's no more expensive than say, Dennys or Ihop. Middle of the road and they have lots of options. A decent meal for two - 50$. Service: Each time we have been, the servers have been great. Nice servers and even when the guy had to tell us they were out of chicken, he was super apologetic. No complaints on the service. Overall: It's a nice place... when they have the advertised food. So I honestly don't know if we will be back or not. Maybe we will give it a shot but I don't want my daughter to be disappointed again. I get it, if it was something they only made 50 of a day, I'd understand. But... chicken and waffles? Hmmm...

Very unique and we totally would've tried some ribs had we not gone to Phil's for the first time the night before and had a ton of leftovers. We split a Country Benny and the Jalapeño scramble, which had their homemade pulled pork in it. Julie was an outstanding server. Super patient, attentive, and helpful. You can choose muffins or coffee cake (only $1 extra!) instead of toast, which I love by the way, but I really appreciated that she asked if I had tried the coffee cake because it's not what I thought it was. She explained it as more of a vanilla cupcake with nuts and white icing? Which is kinda random that they call it coffee cake, but it made us opt for the zucchini muffin which was definitely the right choice. Moist, warm, and delicious to nibble on while we waited for the rest of our meal. She also asked if we needed anything else, like salsa, when our entrees came.
