I visited Lake and Bryant Cafe hoping for a great Uptown breakfast experience, and while the atmosphere is certainly cozy--with a nice vibe and that famed fireplace lounge--my visit was a mixed bag that ultimately left me feeling disappointed. I ordered the breakfast sandwich, and unfortunately, it missed the mark. For a café that seems to put so much effort into its unique menu the sandwich felt processed and lacked the fresh, high-quality ingredients I expected. It was just an unsatisfying start to the meal. The waffle tasted like one of those store-bought belgian waffles However, I have to give credit where it's due: the espresso was excellent. It was nice and strong, clearly made from well-sourced beans. It's a great spot for a caffeine fix. The staff were kind and attentive, and the cafe itself is a great spot to work on a laptop, but based on the food quality of my visit, I can't give it a full recommendation yet. I'll likely be back for the coffee, but I'll stick to one of their more popular items next time. read more

I had high hopes based on the menu I read online and photos. Dishes were not traditionally prepared and lacked flavor. It felt like an intentionally healthier take on traditional foods, however fell flat for me. Coffee was ok. I had higher hopes in this area as well. The service was fine and staff are friendly. Off the bat, the ambiance is killer. The central fireplace with surrounding seating is gorgeous, the ambiance is calm, and the artwork gives the restaurant a finishing cultured touch. The restaurant operates cafe counter style where you order up from and listen for your name to grab food which can sometimes cause long lines but we were ultimately impressed with how quick the food and drinks came out. The coffees we got were very unique and tasty so huge points there. We also liked the variety of food options, including a lot of vegetarian options. I ended up choosing the shakshuka and it was good however it lacked full bodied seasoning. But it came with an entire mini loaf of fresh baked bread so I was quite the happy camper. Overall, will definitely be back but more for a casual coffee get together than for a meal. read more

This was my first time at Lake & Bryant & it's SO cute. I love the fireplace/conversation area in the center of the restaurant, plus their patio area is perfect. I also appreciate counter service; when you're in a hurry, it's nice to have ordered and be able to leave whenever you get your order. Our drinks came up very quickly, with the food taking a little longer, but it was fresh! I ordered a Down to Earth latte (with oat milk), which was AMAZING. It was the perfect balance of rose, with a little sweetness. I also ordered Huevos Rancheros, which were a bit different than I've had before. They were served on little corn muffins, almost like an English muffin, which were delicious. I would say that everything could've used some more salt/seasoning, but overall it was fresh & tasty. I used to come here once a week when I lived in this part of town, and the staff would greet me by name. I hadn't been here in ages, and I didn't recognize anyone working, but everyone was still friendly. Do yourself a favor--try the Down To Earth latte with saffron and rose. It's unlike anything I've ever had. If you try those spicy noodles, be prepared! They are not Minnesota spicy, they are FOR REAL spicy and delicious. The Prime Rib Sandwich is hands down the best breakfast sandwich in the Twin Cities and I will die on that hill. I grabbed a latte ($4.75) with oat milk (+$1!) to start and the garam masala tofu scramble ($10.75; vegan). The order was ready in under 10 minutes. The latte was solid, no complaints there. The tofu scramble was nicely seasoned, somewhat spicy, a bit under-salted, served with green onions and a bit of chopped tomato, with a side of fresh artisan bread that went nicely with it. I'd say this was a tad underwhelming -- tofu scrambles come a lot more interesting than this -- but good for the price. Nice interior and very comfortable. Solid spot. read more

Staff will call out your name when your food items are ready to pick up your order from the counter. You will also need to bus your own table here as well. Staff are all attentive and efficient. We ordered a green tea pina colada, hot honey mocha with oat milk, steel cut oats less coconut flakes, masala tofu scramble with added Turkey bacon and the fire grilled chicken roll special . $46.18. The hot honey mocha tastes very much like a Mexican mocha. The green tea pina colada isn't my jam, but then again pina isn't my favorite, but that's the only green tea option here. The steel cut coat is nice, the blueberries, walnuts, brown sugar. The fire grilled chicken roll was super tasty and had big chunks of chicken in it. My masala tofu scramble is quite good with the Turkey bacon. The marrying of Indian flavors here really works. The croissant here is so buttery and flaky and unbelievably good. The tofu scramble comes normally with a white dinner loaf. It all worked out nicely that our hotel had s dismal breakfast for us. We got to discover this place our first full day here. :) read more

This is one of my favorite spots due to the cozy vibe. There are unique coffee flavors and a wide variety of food options. I got the oatmeal and they put quite the twist on it, lots of texture with goji berries, coconut, sesame seeds, walnuts and some maple syrup but not too sweet. I got the down to earth latte while it was okay i wasn't a fan of the pairings of saffron and rose. it felt grainy. I also tried the made for each other and really enjoyed this as it wasn't too sweet. The staff was kind, interactive and a bit silly when they called my name in a funny one. We laughed about it, it felt very genuine. I have gone here a few times and would go back. My one word of advice is go earlier so you have enough time to soak this place in. I like the fire place and the plants all over the cafe. It really gives the space a cozy feeling and improves the atmosphere. I ordered a Matcha Smoothie Bowl with coconuts, matcha yogurt, goji berries, blueberries, mango purée, flax seeds, walnuts & date syrup. Wasn't very sweet and it was really creamy. I also had a orange lavender latte with lavender flower and orange zest syrup with oat milk. I ordered it iced but the barista accidentally made it hot, he offered to remake it but it wasn't that big of a deal so i accepted it and it was still pretty good. The menus isn't very big, we ordered the Matcha Smoothie Bowl and the Breakfast Burrito. The burrito was decent, the potatoes that came with it were the star of the show. The matcha smoothie bowl, on the other hand, not my thing. I'm sure others think it's delicious, I won't yuck someone else's yum but I did not care for it whatsoever. The ambiance was super cute and laid back, seemed like a great place to work, study, meet to catch up. There's always something, good, bad or indifferent. My "always something" is I wish they would have had another option for a smoothie bowl instead of just matcha. This cafe offers all the usual selection of coffee and tea as well as a very eclectic menu of items like tofu banh mi, or extremely spicy noodles, or the chicken tikka sandwich which I ordered. The owners are a lovely South Asian couple according to my girlfriend so I decided to ordered the chicken tikka sandwich as I love chicken tikka and was very happy to see it on the menu. Let me tell you, that sandwich was freaking amazing! The chicken tikka was cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly, and just so juicy and flavorful. Combine that with the fluffy, fresh bun and you have a top tier sandwich. I mean I would genuinely eat this almost everyday if I could. They do also have a cute little outdoor turf area with some tables and seats to enjoy if the weathers nice. Otherwise, their interior is pretty big and people love to chill and do work here. I know a lot of people come here just for coffee, but this place is worth going out of your way just for the sandwich I had alone. I will 100% be back soon. read more

We found Lake and Bryant on Yelp, and what was possibly the BEST breakfast sandwich of my life. We liked this place so much we even stopped again after our trip before we flew out of Minneapolis. The first time I tried the breakfast burrito, which was super delicious & had whole potatoes on the side. Unique for sure, but they were well-seasoned! I heard rave reviews from the others about the waffle breakfast sandwich, so I had to get that on the 2nd round. WOW. The waffle had crystal sugar on it, so it was both sweet & savory, and between it was egg, cheese, and avocado. I mean.... WOW. Do NOT miss this. To top it all off, the staff was SO friendly. When we asked questions about the menu, the owner literally went through every menu item & described it for us. What a lovely oasis on busy W Lake Street! They have their own parking lot! So I'm walking in already in a good mood. There are plenty of nice nooks inside for meeting a friend, working on your computer, sitting by the fireplace. The pistachio muffin actually tastes like pistachio. The blueberry muffin has a dollop of lemon curd hidden under the crumbly topping. The strawberry rhubarb muffin is tangy and tasty. Yes, I ate all three of the muffins myself. The extremely spicy breakfast noodles really are that spicy, but strangely addictive. It helps if you get a cup of their freshly squeezed orange juice to take the edge off the spice. The tofu banh mi is very flavorful, with fresh crunchy cucumbers and shredded carrots and radish. I'm really glad I stopped in to try this place. I'll definitely be back! read more

FOOD: The food here is fantastic - my favorite is the chicken tikka sandwich, which is simple but perfectly balanced and super tasty. Their coffee is also great, and recently I've been trying their caffeinated mocktails which are also quite good. AMBIANCE: I love the convenient location on lake street, and the inside has a huge fireplace and lots of plants which make it both cozy and super bright and airy. In the summer there are tables outside with some umbrellas for some much needed shade. SERVICE: Always prompt and friendly, perfect for a quick bite. Holy buckets this food is incredible!! We got the El Paso pork sandwich and the Red Eye prime rib sandwich - both are phenomenal! The pork sandwich is very hearty and has a nice kick to it. The bread on both is slightly crispy on the outside but so light and fluffy so you can squish it down and actually eat both as a sandwich. Love the unique menu items!! read more

Super charming atmosphere with a feeling of neighborhood camaraderie. I ordered the breakfast burrito and the Made for Each Other drink iced. The service was great and the guy at the counter answered my questions with ease. Both food and drink came out in a timely manner. The burrito was a good size and not overly filling or hard to eat like some breakfast burritos are. Overall it was a solid breakfast burrito that I would give 4 stars out of 5. I absolutely loved the drink and would get it again in a heartbeat. The slight notes of cardamom were delicious and so unique to a lot of the coffee drinks you find around the twin cities.
