The energy on this corner has definitely changed! Oh my goodness what an amazing restaurant. The breakfast menu is extensive (that's a T not a P!) and it is filled with Wonderful Adventures in Breakfast! The orange juice tasted fresh-squeezed, my eggs, sunny-side-up were delicious and cooked in butter. The hashbrowns were crispy on the outside and sumptuous on the inside. And the coffee was The Perfect Coffee! (It was dark and rich and stood up to the cream and sugar that I added.) The steak that I had was grilled to perfection, I ordered mine med./rare. Everything I ordered was fresh, excellently prepared and delicious. And the hospitality ... EXQUISITE! I love this place! This is by far the most friendly place I've visited lately. Harking back to the neighborhood small town diner with kind of a down home feel The Perfect Coffee makes good on it's name. The blended roast was robust and reeking with after taste, (a good thing). Being greeted on the first step in the door the customer service keeps coming. There are cheese cakes for pastries and a large breakfast anytime menu with favorites made with three eggs. I had a simple grilled cheese sandwich on Sour Dough (my choice of bread always), and cheddar cheese, (you can switch cheese). Thick bread to hold together and generous cheese at a reasonable price. Road construction is wrapping up on Rice and Arcade streets as this area is slowly redeveloping. Should start thriving from here on in. read more

The Perfect Coffee is one of the best and one of my favorite restaurants in the St. Paul area. The first time I ate there was several months ago with a friend and it was such a great experience, I've already gone back a handful of times and cannot recommend it enough. The service is fantastic, the staff are friendly, kind, patient, helpful, and fast. The food is absolutely delicious, fresh, and comes out pretty quickly after you put in your order. I especially love their fries, which are the perfect size and crispy. I also love their orange juice, which is freshly squeezed every time you order. Their burgers are just the right size, not too small, not too big, cooked just the way you like it and very filling. Their breakfast dishes are abundant and scrumptious. I've had their Florentine Benedict, Biscuits and gravy, and Eggs Benedict. Whether it's meeting up with friends for a good meal or going for a bite while working by yourself, this is the place to go. I'll for sure go back again every chance I get. read more

Finally went to "The Perfect Coffee" today at Rice & Arlington. The old Coffee Cup. They've swarmed the neighborhood with signs pointing out how to get there, with all the construction. Feel bad for those Rice Street businesses. Anyway, I got the country fried steak and my wife got the Huevos Rancheros. First off, as a nod to the old Coffee Cup perhaps, each platter could have fed three teenage boys. A lot of food. My steak was okay, the sausage gravy was tasty. They didn't do that annoying thing with frying the hashbrowns in butter-flavored Crisco. My wife's breakfast was another story. A good portion of peppers and onions, and a ranchero sauce that was pretty hot! There were a lot of folks there, so I'm happy for them. Hopefully those signs drove a little business their way. Next time I'll try one of their Mexican breakfasts. It's the same folks who own that Mexican restaurant up the street, and they know that cuisine. read more

I'm glad they are here! This is a new version of the longtime staple that was a neighborhood favorite breakfast spot. The space is greatly refreshed but the menu is similar. Large portions of American breakfast and lunch classics is what you'll get here. I've been getting a white chocolate mocha on my recent visits and those are sweet and delicious, so I have no objection to this new name. The Eggs Benedict are good; the Hollandaise sauce has a bit more tartness than I usually notice, and I like it; good choice. Today I got a ham and cheese omelet and there was way too much ham. So I just didn't eat all the ham. The cheese and eggs were great. But, like, so many big ol' ham cubes up in there. And just like with the old spot, they are exceedingly generous with hash browns, but they are very typical hash browns. Prices are higher than they used to be, which seems like more of a sign of the times than a reflection on their approach. I'll keep coming here for sure, but I hope to discover something on the menu that stands out enough that I could more easily recommend to people from outside the neighborhood. read more

We went there for breakfast on a Sunday morning. The space is clean & bright. The service is fast and friendly. I had a veggie omelette which was huge and chock full of perfectly cooked veggies. The toast was yummy and it also came with a large side of crispy hash browns...I'll probably be eating this for 3 days. On a final note, my hubby inadvertently left his credit card on the table. Thankfully the young lady cleaning our table literally ran out after us which was much appreciated. We will return. read more

Went back for a 2nd time. I kept reading about how great the orange juice was so I wanted to try it. Oh my goddess people weren't kidding. Best OJ I have ever tasted. I also enjoyed the tanginess of the Hollandaise sauce. I stole a couple of fries from my Mister and really enjoyed them too. I would say the service wasn't as great as the first time we ate there, but wasn't bad. I was super happy that they seemed to have a good number of customers in there. With all the road work on Rice street. Very clean still, which was no surprise. It could have been cooler in there for my taste but that's just personal preference. read more

We stopped here for breakfast while visiting our daughter, who attends university in the area. Our breakfast was fantastic! I had the Florentine Benedict, which was delicious. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the other ingredients were fresh and high quality. My wife had the French toast with fruit, which was fluffy and flavorful. The fresh squeezed orange juice was as advertised. The service was very attentive, as the manager (or maybe owner?) stopped by to check on us.
