I had the quinoa bowl with grilled chicken and it was so flavorful! The veggies were cooked perfectly. Chicken was a little overcooked but I would for sure order this again! My friend and I stopped here briefly after sending our friend to the Amtrak station across the way. Hence, this shop gets points for convenience. We were 3rd in line but getting nervous & wanting to rush back because we forgot to pay street parking. Thankfully both of us decided our orders while waiting & the process was quick. My friend was told they ran out of maple syrup so she said pumpkin spice was fine. I got the banana pudding matcha & spinach/artichoke roll. Both of these are my go-to's in other coffee shops, so I knew they wouldn't disappoint. The matcha was great, almost keeps up with Merit Coffee in Austin. I'm actually shocked at how fast this specific combo has taken over specialty coffee shops, I thought it was unique to Merit! We came here for dinner before a show at The Fitzgerald on a Saturday night. They had a pretty good crowd there. We didn't have a lot of time, and I was impressed with the server who got us our drinks and dinner very quickly. We tried the Greek hamburger and a chicken tinga rice bowl and we both enjoyed our meals. My friend had a Jameson ginger and I had a glass of the sauv blanc. They brought the wrong wine, but quickly replaced it. The restaurant also has a coffee shop side which is cool. The building is really old and has a lot of character. I would definitely go back to have a longer, more leisurely meal. Parking was a bit tough, but we found a meter near Mears Park. read more

The Lost Fox has a good vibe and a pleasant atmosphere but the food was pretty bad. I ordered a Cuban sandwich for takeout. It was reputed to be grilled pork, but tasted more like tuna salad with barbeque sauce. The sandwich wasn't grilled as it should have been and the roll it was served on was a fluffy white thing that seemed more akin to a hotdog bun than a true Cubano roll. The greens served on the side were fine, but at nearly $20 the meal it was waaay overpriced. If I hadn't been so hungry, I would have returned it after the first bite. I've been here for coffee many times and I love the coffee and the atmosphere. I've only hesitated to write a review because I've never been to the dining section so I can't comment on it. For me, this is a charming urban coffee counter and hangout. Prices for coffee drinks are better than similar places, and the service is always very friendly. The decor is busy with botany and art; very pleasant city-joint atmosphere. I really need to try the food in the restaurant. I'll probably update my review after doing that, but for now you can officially know that I love stopping here for coffee. read more

Lost Fox in downtown St. Paul is a fantastic little spot that offers the coziness of a coffee shop, cafe, to the night vibes of a dive bar. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. I must admit my first impression was not the best when I visited a year ago for breakfast. However on this latest visited, I was impressed. I stopped in for a snack and to watch the vikings game with friends and ordered the Deep-Fried Pickle Chips, and they were a great choice! The pickles themselves were nicely briny and tart, and the breading was perfectly golden and crispy. What really set them apart was the hint of dill in the coating, which added a fresh, a nice kick to the crunch. They came with a great dipping sauce that complemented them perfectly. The service was friendly, and they do come to your table to place your order. I am glad I gave this place another chance; i had no idea that they had a bar. This is a gem to have in DT Saint Paul; our lowertown neighborhood needs places like these as we are limited. read more

Twin Cities grub - east side of the river - 2 of 2 At this point, on the east side of the river in downtown St. Paul, I took it upon myself to find the place to eat. I did this by just asking someone. It's no surprise that the person I asked was a foreigner working as a doorman and security guard. I bring this up because I find myself speaking to foreigners more so than my American contemporaries would. At any rate, the Lost Fox was suggested. The Lost Fox is right there in the center; however, it sits to one side of the platform at the Union Station Depot terminus of the Metro Green line. It doesn't jump out at you ... after all, the fox is "lost." Upon entering, you are inside a woodsy locale that has a good vibe. The front part is more of a coffeehouse, with books and laptops open while people have coffee or tea and something to eat on the sides of their tables as well. Moving a little inward, it becomes a restaurant and there is a bar slightly further in. We got to pick where we wanted to sit and were attended to promptly. My friend had a pulled pork sandwich. I had a Cubano sandwich. My friend accompanied the pulled pork with a pale ale beer. I had the usual refillable soft drink. My friend thought the pulled pork sandwich platter was good. I thought my Cubano sandwich was just okay. In looking at both platters, they seemingly used to same pulled pork to stuff the Cubano sandwich. Almost every Cubano sandwich I've had uses a pork loin that features larger more intact slices and seem to be pressed with the other ingredients. I prefer that presentation and, truthfully, other Cubano sandwiches I've had have tasted better. The service at the Lost Fox was very low key and helpful. There is an interesting mix of people in the restaurant and in the coffeehouse. While downtown St. Paul seemingly goes into a slumber after 5 p.m. and it's much smaller than Minneapolis's downtown, it is the state capital and people will want to eat or do the coffeehouse thing here later than the hours kept by public offices and local businesses. Given that, the Lost Fox is open late. They also have a reputable weekend brunch. While I didn't ask, I'm guessing my friend would give the Lost Fox 4 stars. It's my review, so I'm going to go with 3 stars, albeit a strong 3 stars. It's because the Cubano sandwich was just okay. However, while I didn't have the opportunity to return, this is the sort of woodsy coffeehouse I would enjoy patronizing and, additionally, they had some desserts that were priced fairly and looked tasty. That said, I would recommend the Lost Fox for its multifaceted possibilities as a restaurant, coffeehouse, and bar that you can easily reach by the Metro, parking your car nearby, and even on foot in this compact city center. read more

Stopped by Lost Fox in the morning, and wow what a gem! During the day it runs as a coffee shop and transitions into a restaurant at night, which I think is such a cool concept. I ordered a Cortado (a triple!) something I've never seen before and it was absolutely perfect. The Ultimate Breakfast Bagel Sandwich was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and so good that I ended up ordering a second one. The atmosphere is super cozy, with thoughtful designer touches, unique art pieces, and even some fun games around that make it feel warm and inviting. My friend and I came here for dinner and loved the vibes! The front half of the space is a coffee shop and the back half is a restaurant / bar. They had live music starting as we were leaving. I love live music so this was a positive in my books! The staff were friendly and attentive. We went around dinner time and were able to get a table right away. I ordered the Cubano Sammie and my friend ordered the Pulled Pork Sammie. Party of three, two of which were first timers, came in for dinner. We were immediately seated and quickly ordered chicken wings as an appetizer. We placed our orders, which took quite awhile to arrive, with one party's order arriving well before the other two entrees. The chicken wings appetizer arrived after our entrees, which the server apologized for. We ordered a chicken rice bowl, hamburger, hotdog, fries and the ahi tuna salad. The rice bowl was plentiful, as were the fries. They were out of hotdogs, so they served two "halved" small hotdogs in a large bun. It tastes the same I guess, but it was a visual disappointment. The ahi tuna salad was a miss. The salad was dry, yet over saturated with dressing at the same time. The tuna was cut poorly (very uneven and fraying edges) and had a very obvious "previously frozen" texture. It was almost like it had severe freezer burn but without the freezer burn flavor. It was weird. And for $17, the portion was inadequate. Our server was a sweetheart. Upon leaving, I attempted to order a latte at the coffee bar. The server/barista literally made four drinks while standing less than five feet away from me, without acknowledging me whatsoever. When he was ready to take my order, he turned to the register and just stared at me. No "what can I get you" or anything. It made me super uncomfortable! I received my latte without a single word. Someone in my party had eaten there last night and had this man as his server in the restaurant area and received good service, so maybe he was having a bad night. We intend to eat at a neighboring restaurant, but ended up here due to the other place being closed. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again, but it wasn't bad enough to never return. read more

Highly recommend! Gluten free options available. The food was so good and the drinks were great. We were in town for the weekend and actually went twice for dinner. We were lucky enough to have Jayna as our server and she was awesome. Great service and great conversation. Yikes! After seeing the menu, we should have left. Only stayed because we just put $3.00 on the parking meter. I had an egg sandwich on English Muffin for $8.00! Oh, and a small bag of chips to go with it. The muffin was under toasted and the grease from the undercooked, greasy, limp bacon soaked in to the muffin. Grease was dripping from the soggy muffin. McDonald's have far superior egg muffins and much cheaper. Will not be back. I won't even tell you about my husband's overpriced croissant sandwich. Cute building, though. We came to Lost Fox for the first time for brunch; it's in a convenient location right off the light rail & across from Union Depot (which has a parking garage). I loved the look of their branding & logos! The decor is interesting; it feels like there was an existing space that the business moved into & added some decor (neither here nor there, but it wasn't necessarily a selling point). The restaurant has 2 halves, one side is seated with a server, the other is cafe style where you order at a counter. We sat on the served side & our service was great. I got a Vietnamese coffee, which was the Americanized version with espresso. It was pretty good but didn't pack as much of a punch as traditional Vietnamese coffee, at least in terms of flavor. I also had the eggs Benedict (with the prosciutto on the side) with their mixed green salad as the side. The mixed greens were not what I'd call a salad; it was literally lettuce with some red onion & I couldn't taste any sort of dressing. The eggs Benedict itself was tasty, a standard English muffin with really good hollandaise. The eggs, though, were definitely too overcooked to be considered poached, so that was a bummer. The prosciutto was crispy, almost like it'd been air fried, & my husband enjoyed that. He got the lox eggs Benedict with the breakfast potatoes & a side of mixed berries; the dish originally came out with the mixed greens, but the staff corrected it & brought out the potatoes & berries quickly. The potatoes were worth it; they were crisp on the outside & soft & potatoey on the inside, which was a highlight of the meal. All in all, I may come back to try the cafe side of things. Prices were very reasonable, so it wasn't a bad experience overall. The service was excellent so we can't complain too much :) read more

Ambiance - outside: Simple sidewalk patio, partially shaded by a fence with vines/flowers. There is a set of double doors at the entrance. Ambiance - inside: High dark painted ceiling, and an open floor plan - consisting of the cafe (right) and restaurant (left). The two spaces were divided by wooden, rectangular inline planters. The first wall you see walking in - opposite door - is made of yellow/tan brick, with several contemporary art pieces hanging on it. This gave the space a sort-of hip and artsy feel. That wall is counterbalanced by the opposite wall, which is painted black (or dark blue) with random white stars on it. Food: I ordered broccoli cheddar soup and a "Beef-ziki burger". The soup was creamy, cheesy and somewhat zesty. There were a couple of sizeable (I'd prefer smaller) pieces of broccoli in it. The burger consisted of 2 beef patties, taziki sauce, feta cheese, cucumbers, onions, lettuce and tomatoes. It was VERY GOOD, and a unique burger offering (to me). The burger came with an ample serving of thin French fries. The fries were hot and generously salted. Service: Two thumbs up for server Danny L. He was prompt, professional, attentive and accurate. I love the location of lost fox! I'm usually not in downtown St. Paul but the area around this cafe is sooo beautiful!! I loved it! There is plenty of street parking but you do have to walk as lost fox is right in front of the green/blue line so there is no parking. However the walk was super cute as you can see the buildings and there is a nice park a block away. Lost fox itself is HUGE and I love the cozy ambiance they have!! It is great for a study session especially since they're one of the only shops that are open later, closing at 10pm and 1am on weekends. There's so much space and a side that is busier than the other, one for eating with a bar and tables, while the other side is more for studying with a coffee bar and plenty of outlets. The bathrooms are very clean too and require a code. The only downfall here was the actual service. I tried to order a coffee as I believe there is not heating there, however nobody was at the bar so I asked someone in the restaurant side and she said she would send someone over. 30 minutes in line and there were about four other sets of customers in line with me but nobody came over. This was on a Monday night and I just sat back down, I understand they could have just been busy but I would definitely still recommend this spot! read more

My Iced Vietnamese coffee was not the best in class - a bit on the weak side, so I'd steer clear of that on a return visit, but I would return for a different beverage or food if I so happen to be in dt STP. 3 stars for my beverage, 5 stars for the vibe and options. read more

I'll be so for real, I was quite intoxicated by the time I joined friends here for drinks so my recollection may be a bit shotty, however I did like the atmosphere in addition to all of the beer options.
