Cute little urban coffee shop in Lynhurst. I hung out for a little bit and had a mocha, that's it but it was actually a perfect mocha. The ideal balance of sweetness, not overpowering the great coffee flavor. And they make their own syrups! I didn't know that was a thing. They are clearly popular in the neighborhood because they've always been very populated when I've been there. They have a display case with some bakery items but they are clearly hanging their hat on the coffee experience. Parking is actually kind of tricky, but that's the only real knock. That's city life, baby. My barista was working hard during my recent visit, but also maintained a cheery conversation with me so I just really like it here. read more

This was a cozy little coffee shop. I was greeted quickly and kindly. The gal behind the counter seemed shocked when i asked for a recommendation. I got a tea matcha mix and it was delightful and colorful. I will say the seating in here was rather tight and not as comfortable as it could have been. I really enjoyed my time at this coffee shop! My only complaint is that I wish it was bigger, but I understand that sometimes that just isn't possible. The coffee was great and I believe that they home make all of their syrups! The flavor is great and their espresso is tasty. I have yet to have something I don't like. I haven't tasted their food or pastries, but they look delicious. The staff are very friendly and I have no complaints about the service. Found this place for dog friendly inside versus outside on the patio. My friend was visiting from Chicago and brought their dog and needed to be dog friendly. Short Wave didn't disappoint as there were many dogs with their owners coming and going. Service was ok in that we didn't get our drinks and food all at once but available as they are ready. I just had black coffee with cream and sugar. It was ok. They had specialty lattes available on their small chalk board with three different kind of pie flavors. The space is small but cozy. Prices are reasonable. The caramel roll just melts in your mouth so definitely recommend ordering once of them if available. read more

This place is so cute! I walked in right when they opened on Wednesday, and there were already two people waiting for their coffee (which is really nice to see). I was followed by a few other people, so they must stay pretty busy! The barista greeted me right away, even though she was making other drinks. She took my order and offered me a suggestion for my husband's coffee. The drinks were made quickly, and the foam heart was cute! I am so excited to find out that they have a cardamom latte on their menu all the time, as cardamom is my favorite flavor, and it's hard to find places that have it on their menu (and not just as a seasonal special). I ordered the special - chocolate covered raspberry latte. I could taste the raspberry so it tasted like a normal mocha to me. Not overly sweet which is appreciated. My daughter invited me to join her at a newly opened coffee shop near Tangletown. Shortwave Coffee is a family-owned and operated coffee shop. According to the barista and owner, Muran (Myou-rrrran, and roll the 'R' if you want to impress him!), this is their fourth site, with the first two in Columbia, MO, and the third in Tampa. Muran is the legal mind behind the business, but he pours a mean Dirty Chai Latte to boot! We arrived in early afternoon on a cold winter's day (actually, a pretty mild 31F for Minneapolis in mid-January, but "cold winter's day" sounds better...extra points if you know the song!). A take-out order preceded ours. Note that this is a craft coffee shop, with slightly longer ordering and premium pricing. But (and it's a big BUT), they serve their coffee in actual cups on actual saucers. I like my espresso drinks, but I *really* like them served hot in nice cups or mugs. I'm a sucker for baked goods, so I splurged on a small $3 baklava. Very, very good. So good that the baklava I bought for my daughter is at risk of being plundered if she doesn't finish it up...darn, too late. Since we arrived an hour ago, there's been a steady stream of customers, with folks at 3 of the 5 tables. Even so, there's a large table with room for 6, plus a couch and two chairs, and window-front seating for 5. Lots of room, with lots of plugs for your energy-thirsty laptop. According to Muran, they're in a soft open right now to smooth things out, with the grand opening coming up soon. Street parking is still available, but it's a bit crowded if you have to go back into the adjacent neighborhoods with their encroaching snowdrifts. read more

I want to like Shortwave. They put thought into it. The coffee and ambiance are above average. It's in a good location for when I have to burn time in this part of Minneapolis. The service is earnest... but often barely competent, and therein lies the issue: half of my visits have had a new person who doesn't quite know how to make the drinks or handle the obligations, but not for lack of enthusiasm. It seems like an issue with onboarding and training. Still, I'm willing to keep trying but I won't put it in the upper echelon of Twin Cities coffee spots. 3.5 stars. read more

Close to impeccable. [Coffee snob speaking. Although unlike most of us, I prefer dark roasts and coffees of the Americas. I honestly don't understand how folks find African or Indonesian varieties drinkable, much less delicious!] They roast well and have a broad enough range to satisfy nearly anyone. I usually don't write reviews, but my experience today was so unpleasant I felt compelled to. Filthy cafe; floor was littered with trash and dirt. They were out of one of the teas on their menu. After I ordered and paid I found out they were also out of skim milk. In other words they didn't have basic items in stock. Barista was not apologetic or friendly. The matcha was flavorless and I ended up feeling like I paid more than $6 for a cup of two percent milk with ice in it. I felt like I wasted my money. I wish I had read all the previous reviews about it being dirty, overpriced, and the poor service. I won't be back. read more

We've been here twice now - the first time was when we were visiting the area and the second most recently just after moving here! The shop is a super cute vibe with areas for working, people watching and chilling in the couch. The coffee options are also great! We are coffee snobs that love a good pour over so we loved that they have some really great options! I don't remember the service the first time but the most recent time we went we had such a horrible experience that we will never go back! We popped in about 15 mins to closing since we had been unpacking all day and needed coffee beans. It almost looked like it was closed but it was open so we asked if they were still taking orders and the barista said yes so we ordered 2 pour overs and bought beans (pretty standard order for us). The next 15 mins were the most uncomfortable as the barista started making the coffee he proceeded to tell us repeatedly that we should be thankful he didn't kick us out as his coworkers would not do that same. He told us about how they have told others to not come in so close to closing and order a drink. He told us we should t do this again as others will not be so kind ...well guess what bro I am NEVER coming back to your store again! Clearly this place doesn't need my business and instead of saying no we are closed he offered to make us coffee only to repeatedly tell me how I am a terrible human. read more
