I have been shopping here for years, I always find the owner and the staff to be so pleasant and helpful. You can tell that the store is loved and that the buyer (who I think is the owner) is inspired. What I especially like about this store is that all of the clothing is super high quality and is often sourced from other small businesses who are committed to their craft. I have dresses that I purchased from Dotter years ago and I wear them constantly, but they still look like new. The prices are super reasonable especially for the quality and longevity of the items. I love to go here whenever I need to pick up a gift for a friend, I always find the perfect item. I am so happy that Dotter is open again, I've missed being inside of this special store!

I drive @45 minutes to get there and had actually selected a jacket for myself. I tried on the jacket and noticed that there was a $32 discrepancy between the coat on line versus in the store. I waited in the long line (holiday sale prompted throngs) and told (& showed her the jacket I had saved in my phone) the owner what happened. She asked me to wait to check. I waited a good 15 plus minutes during which time her assistant took down the coat from the web site and made it reflect the higher price. Then she brightly asked if I wanted to try it on again and I said no, I need to leave and then she said she wouldn't honor the price that was listed on line stating it was a human error and she was running a small business. I think it is bad form to not honor the price that was listed. She has known than I've brought friends who have spent significant money in her store and I come to her from great distance for years...this was their mistake and I think it's extremely poor form to not honor what was listed. This is customer service at its worse. So much for loyalty. I could easily have bought the jacket on line and picked it up at the store but I thought that would not have integrity. Come to think of it, her actions didn't have integrity. You would think she would cultivate keeping her loyal customer base. What a disappointment.

Anyways, This is the perfect place to find beautiful floral, frilly, dresses that are delicate, timeless, and very high quality. This is also their first brick and mortar store (it initially opened last year after doing pop-ups in Carpinteria and Smorgasburg). There are various dresses of sizes from XS to XL of various colors and floral patterns. Additionally, you'll find beautiful floral jewelry, hair accessories, candles, and hand-crafted perfume from local sellers. You'll even find art prints from artist Kim Hoppe of Carpinteria along with 123 lavender farm's lavender coffee. All of these would make perfect gifts for a friend, a significant other or in my case, for me - it was my birthday. The owners Astrid and Rikki are both very welcoming and friendly. Rikki also hosts candle making classes where you get to make your own custom scent, add crystals, add a wax seal and get complimentary drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). It's a wonderful activity to do with a friend, family member or loved one. I highly recommend making a stop here if you are walking along York Blvd. personal note: I rarely go clothes shopping. I only limit myself to buy at most 2-3 pieces of clothing a year to ensure I'm not over-consuming clothing. But when I do shop, 1 of the pieces I buy comes from here. I have 3 pieces from them and I get non-stop compliments whenever I wear them.

I found Eva's store while my husband and I were walking along Mission Avenue in South Pasadena. We had moved away from this area almost 10 years ago and wasn't familiar with what business were there now. We knew about the Dinosaur Store, one of the best places to connect with your inner child, across the way, but did not expect to find this Eva's gem of a store across the way. My husband was the one who spotted and encouraged me to walk in and see what was there. It was unpretentious and unassuming from the outside, until you walk in and discover Eva's treasures. I have now been to the store twice and Eva was there both times, to my delight. She is just as lovely as her designs. She took such care helping me find the right dress for a wedding. I could tell that she loves making her customers feel welcome in her special place. And when I finally decided on "the one" (and just like chocolates, it was REALLY hard to take just one), she surprised me again by letting me know that she can have her seamstress make the alterations right there; and that I could come back the same day! I'm so glad that my husband and I took that stroll in South Pasadena. Glad too that he had the patience to let me browse until I found THE DRESS and to meet the lovely Eva! And just like a box of my favorite chocolates, I know that I will keep coming back for more.

A Slice of Shopping Heaven in San Marino…read more Serafina is less of a boutique and more of a retail paradise where the fashion angels sing and the decor whispers, "Go on, treat yourself." Nestled in the heart of San Marino, just a stone's throw from Pasadena, it's the kind of place that makes you feel like royalty--no tiara required. Upon entering, it's clear this is no ordinary clothing emporium. The mix of designers is so carefully curated, I half expected to find a gallery label next to the Nili Lotan display. And with threads by Sea NY and Helmut Lang hanging around, you're not just shopping; you're adding to your art collection. The handbags? They've got more personality than a reality TV star. Shoes that make Cinderella's glass slipper look like a flip-flop. Fine jewelry that has you sparkling brighter than the twinkle in your eye. And let's not forget the gift items--because who doesn't love presents? But wait, there's more! A children's boutique so adorable, even your little ones will want to extend playtime to dress-up time. With names like Splendid and Ella Moss, your kids are walking out of there runway-ready for the sandbox catwalk. Sipping on Pellegrino while the staff, who are more like your personal fashion consultants, cater to your every need? Check. Enjoying a cappuccino as you peruse luxury labels? Double check. Feeling as comfortable as if you were lounging in your own living room? Well, if your living room was a casually chic sanctuary of style, then yes--triple check! If Serafina were a song, it'd be a symphony of style, luxury, and comfort. So next time you're in San Marino and need a dose of retail therapy, float on into Serafina and float out like the fashion deity you truly are.

I hate giving 2 stars, but in this instance my two stars go for the low level of customer service. No one greets you when you walk in (I've been a few times), no one asks to hold your items at the counter when they see you holding an armful of items, when I ask for a size they say that's all they have and can't be bothered to say they can order it for you or provide alternatives. This store seems to cater to the white and 60+ set (that's all there was at the store both times I've visited) and if you don't fit that demographic, they don't care you'll be dropping $5-600. I wanted to support a local business but I rather make the drive back to the country mart than give my money to a shop that does not value all of their shoppers. Perhaps I expect too much out of my shopping experience, but now more than ever (pandemic) I want my limited entries to shops to be memorable. I don't want to think "oh, I had a shitty time when I bought this $400 dress".
