I stay in the area semi-often (in a just need a safe place to crash way, not the relaxing vacation way) and had never even considered staying here because they had NO reviews on Yelp or TripAdvisor. It is 2014, and they've been in business a long time, and there were ZERO reviews. Also, inconveniently, they do not have any way to reserve rooms online. There is a chance these things are related. For my most recent trip there was some stupid event happening in the area, completely unrelated to why I was there, and all the the room rates were offensively high to me - as in the mediocre place I can usually book for $50-$60 was asking $127. I finally gave in and called this place and was quoted a tolerable $70 for a weekend night with an event in the area. This is a no frills budget motel - so a 1 Diamond level (except AAA doesn't even bother to rate them ). AAA's definition of 1 Diamond: "Budget-oriented, offering essential, no-frills accommodations with basic comfort and hospitality". I am not saying it is a 4 Star Hotel, I am saying that for a no frills budget motel, it does its job better than many such places. Really I give it 3+ stars, but it is getting rounded up instead of down because there wasn't really anything wrong with the stay, especially considering I went into it concerned that there were no reviews because all previous guests had been stabbed to death in the shower. If you are into time travel on a budget, stay at this motel. You have to call to reserve your room. When you get there you will be given a card style room key. No, not the kind that you get now, the old kind with the holes punched in it that need to line up just right in the door. You'll struggle to get your room open the first time, but keep at it, you'll eventually work it out. Inside you'll find a fairly spacious room with a tube television that has a built in VCR! Bring some VHS tapes with you to really enjoy your time travel experience. The room was clean. The bathroom was clean. The furniture is all really dated, but in decent shape. The place looks taken care of. The shower was clean. We used it, and were not stabbed to death (or to the pain) during the shower. The soundproofing of the walls and the floor ceiling was better than I usually find in budget motels. The worst noise is through the door and window. The manager or owner has a baby and our room was very close to the office/their living area, and I could hear the baby crying, but it was quiet and distant sounding enough to not be aggravating. In the average Motel 6 it would have sounded like the baby was inside the room with you. The rooms are all non-smoking. There are lots of disgusting buckets of cigarettes outside and people lurking right outside their doors puffing away. It is better than the room smelling like a shut-in with a 4 pack a day habit had been staying there for a decade, but it can make getting to and from the room fairly unpleasant. I find this a common problem at all budget motels, but most of those have horrible smelling smoking rooms, so at least this is a step above that. The bed was reasonably comfortable. The heater worked. There is not an air conditioner, so that could be a problem during certain times of the year. It will not become my regular cheap place to stay in town because I can't book online, but the next time the rates everywhere else are too high, I'll give them a call. Too bad I finally got rid of all my VHS tapes a few years back.

    My $70 room. 13 Nov 2015

$70 for king size bed, fridge, microwave, desk on a Friday night in November with free WiFi. No pets allowed. I'm so glad I stopped into the Laguna Lodge last night. I got a king size bed, fridge, desk on the first floor for $70. I just tested the wifi speed and it came in at 11.76 download, 1.44 upload. (more tests 11.13, 1.45; 11.44, 1.33) (I came here to get work done with internet so its a must.) Free wifi, immaculate grounds, the linens feel cozy with a rich feel (NOT cheap & scratchy), Dish TV and close to all the stores I could possibly need. Coffee maker, old school blow dryer. Street noise can be heard but nothing bad at all. Will likely stay again tonight....and in the future!

they have the best prostitutes here and i bought my bomb making materials gere to kill the us president and the 3rd floor is magnificent

Good quality place, receptionist was nice. The plants make the place pop out. I felt safe there.

The additional space would have been nice for two adults and their furry friend. It was still a great room with an awesome view of the dunes and water. Check in was terrific. The lobby is beautiful and stocked for a quick whatever you might want. There is a backyard behind the lobby that is sheltered from those pesky ocean breezes with firepit, tables, chairs and other stuff. Nice touch. Our room was spotless. The bathroom was very nice. Clean and let me say that the shower was fantastic. There is a heater/fan in the bathroom that made getting out of the shower, pleasantly warm. Toiletries are of nice quality. Our dog, Sian found the stick library very useful and she had a blast going after it on the beach and in the ocean. She even brought it back to the library the morning we left, for others to use during their stay. The pet welcome is a nice touch. This site is very pet friendly. Not so much for the timeshares that are on the same property. And that's fine. Parking is not allowed at the units. You are driven to your unit by one of the great golf cart drivers. Zach was our driver. Loaded all our luggage on to the the cart. As we journeyed to our cottage, Zach pointed out sites as well as amenities. Unloaded our luggage as wll as went and got us ice as we settled in. If you need help getting to your car, onsite restaurant or the lobby, just call the lobby about 10 minutes before you want to go and someone will be there. The restaurant is great. We ate there twice and had breakfast delivered to our unit twice. The bread platter... OMG... the bread platter. We loved it so much that we went to Otto's bakery in Salinas on our way out of town to bring it home with us. The restaurant is not open for breakfast but, at check in, you will get a room service menu that that's how you can have breakfast onsite. More on the restaurant in that review... Can't wait to go back. Have to say that overall, this is probably in our top 3 of vacation spots. Including Hawaii. It's just great.

I had this…read morehotel saved for a long time and booked it after seeing so many glowing reviews about the pet-friendly luxury experience. We paid around $1,000 for one night, so I arrived excited and expecting something special. Unfortunately, our experience was the opposite. Many of the pet-friendly touches that influenced me to book were missing at check-in. There was no personalized dog welcome setup, no dog package, and my dog's name was not on the welcome sign until I called later. I had also requested a simple welcome card for my mother-in-law's first trip to California, and although staff said they would gladly do it, it was never done. We also had multiple room issues throughout the stay. The TV was not working, the phone buttons to reach the front desk did not work, there was no extra pillow for the fold-out bed, and there was even a leftover dog chew from a previous guest found in the bed. To be fair, the maintenance employee was kind and helpful, and the complimentary bottle of wine was appreciated. However, for this price point, the lack of attention to detail and overall service was really disappointing. What upset me most was checkout. I politely explained that I was disappointed and thought at minimum the pet fee might be removed, but there was no effort to make things right beyond emailing the receipt. Beautiful location, but the experience did not match the cost or reputation. I truly wanted to love this stay and left sad and let down instead.

This. Place. SUCKS!…read more You can hear EVERYTHING. The engines and security beeps of every car in the parking lot. The obnoxious kids running and yelling endlessly up and down the hallway outside your door. The neighbor's TV and conversation and snoring in every room adjacent to your own. Every door opening and closing all night long.... And that's just OUTSIDE your room. Inside, the AC/fan is loud and the beds creak and groan every time you breathe. I barely slept might #1 and judging by the crowd of elephants that just entered the room next door, I won't get much more tonight as I'm typing this at 11 PM. The layout of the room is awful. As soon as someone opens the door, everyone inside is blasted by either the outdoor lights or the sun. The bathroom is ridiculously tiny. You can barely get inside to close the door to use the toilet. The shower curtain bar was falling out of the wall, drooping, and causing the curtain to continously slip to the middle of the bar, letting all the shower spray out onto the floor. And nevermind any soft or adjustable lighting--it's all harsh, bright light ricocheting across mirrors so no one can sleep if one person is up. The floor creaks when you walk and was filthy and gritty when we arrived. There's mildew and mold in most corners and all over the bathroom. The toilet seat is such flimsy, cheap plastic you can't sit on it without it sliding half of the toilet or bowing under you. Did I mention that you will hear all the screaming and crying children on either side of you all hours of the night? The parking lot was NEVER full, but the place still put everyone in consecutive rooms when clearly there were empty rooms that could have been used to space us all out to make buffers for noise since this place has zero soundproofing. The room as a whole was grimy and dirty. Stuff on the walls, paint peeling, bathroom and bathtub surfaces cracked, rusted, and moldy. Absolutely disgusting. The only positives I can cite are the blackout curtains (worked well) and that there was a mini-fridge and microwave in the room. The continental breakfast was okay, too. But if you actually want to sleep on your trip, don't stay here. This place clearly does not care one bit about helping you get a decent night's rest. Never. Ever. Again.

They offer FREE coffee, tea, water and ice to fill up your water bottles. I took off 1 Star.... My only complaint would be the parking. We couldn't find a parking at the hotel after dark. The hotel is surrounded by apartments so I'm sure people from other places park there. There's only 30 or so parking spots and it's Not monitored which I wish they would do. Maybe give us a parking pass to put on the car or something and tow the ones who don't belong. My husband had to park a block and half away. We would consider staying here again if they fixed the parking issue. It's very inconvenient for families who have little ones.
