    Bed stains

Absolutely disgusting and unsafe. If I could leave zero stars I would. We checked in to our room and immediately noticed the back door to the patio was unlocked and there were beer bottles with a ton of cigarettes left out there. The bed was covered in stains, clearly had not been cleaned. We asked for a refund and were only refunded 2 of our 3 nights since we had already checked in even though we were there less than 10 minutes. We have stayed in some pretty run down hotels/motels but this was truly the worst of the worst for us.

We reserved a stay at the Seaside Inn Seaside for Saturday, May 29 2021. It's sad to me that the owners of this hotel can repeatedly treat customers in an horrible manner whenever they feel like it. They have zero consequences simply because of where they are located. They will never have poor business until someone can truly hold them accountable for their astounding rudeness, lack of cleanliness, or even a remote sense of consideration for their paying guests. If I could give zero stars I would. My husband and I made a reservation based on the ratings. (I have no idea how they are managing to get such good ones). We get into our room and the first thing we notice is the fire alarm is chirping because the battery is low. Then I see the bedspread. There was a white stain on it (I included pictures). I inspected the rest of the room and found it really hadn't been cleaned. I wasn't feeling well, and was very tired. I went to tell the front desk about the condition of the room. There was a thick glass partition, and the receptionist was wearing a mask. I couldn't understand or hear him and ended up yelling at him to please come clean the room (which I apologized for right after). We told him we were going to get something to eat and he said he'd take care of it but when we came back 3 hours later nothing had been done. Since I was still cranky I sent my hubby to go talk to the front desk. My husband came back to tell me the receptionist said the room was as clean as it was going to get, that they didn't wash the comforters every day, that there was nothing he could do about the smoke alarm because maintenance had left. When we said we wouldn't pay $200 for a dirty room with a faulty smoke alarm, the receptionist refused to give us a refund. So I told him we'd call the credit card company to cancel the charges and the hotel would be getting an insanely bad review. By this time there was another man at the front desk and he was just smiling (he didn't have on a mask but was also behind the glass partition) and shrugging at me, telling me they didn't care, I could do what I wanted. It's very surreal and absolutely unbelievable. Interesting enough, a day later they DID reverse the charges before we could contact the credit card company. I read a couple other reviews just now (that I wish I'd seen before we booked this place) that explains a similar attitude towards customers. I'm thinking that they just don't care if they anger a few people a year because it doesn't seem to affect their business much. It's sad and disappointing to see people behave like this.

We loved our stay here including our upgraded room to a two bedroom suite. For our family of 5 the…read moreextra space was much appreciated and everyone was able to fully relax after a long day. The breakfast was the star with so many options in the buffet and then an additional "made to order" breakfast window that doled out fresh pancakes, bacon, and omelettes, only added to the experience. You will truly find something for everyone. Our kids also enjoyed the indoor pool and the gift shop downstairs added to our convenience when we needed extra waters and late night snacks. Our room: incredibly spacious. I originally booked a suite with two double beds and was disappointed to discover the room we were in only had a single king bed. But the front desk came through and opened the adjoining room to reveal an additional two double beds. The living area was spacious with a small wet bar with fridge and dining table. And with the addition of the second sleeping quarters, we had access to another bathroom, which we didn't even know we needed until we had it. Big thank you to Pamela because this alone made our stay a 10/10 experience. The breakfast: the buffet had the best hot crispy potatoes of any hotel we have stayed, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit, yogurt, bagels, muffins and breads, cereal, made to order hot foods, and coffee, juices, and even a soda fountain provided everything anyone could need. 20/10 breakfast just very busy. The pool: we wished it was warmer and it did not open at 8am the next day like posted. We waited for quite a while, closer to 9am but our kids had a blast once there. They supply towels on a rack. We did not partake in the happy hour nor the restaurant but I liked knowing they were available. The gift shop: convenient. The lady who helped us during the night was so helpful. She gave us a spoon set for our ice cream and packed everything for us in a bag. The next morning I returned to buy a mug and the lady did not offer to put it in anything so I carried it out and chose not to tip her because..."what service?" And then I stopped to ask her for a spoon to which she simply answered "no". I had gotten one the night before so I know they have them and I didn't appreciate that she was as about unhelpful as a flower pot. The gift shop also sells speciality--what I believe is starbucks--coffee and you're telling me you can't part with a spoon? It was a little before 9am on Friday June 12th, 2026 and I stand by my decision to not tip her. 1/5 just for her but our previous night experience was a 5/5 so I'm torn. The hotel did charge a $15 resort fee that they gave back to you as credit to use at the gift shop or on food and a $20/night parking fee but we always pay for parking when staying in Monterey so I think it's standard. Overall, great experience. My suggestions: the railings make me nervous. With a kid on the spectrum I worried about her and had to hold her when going to our room. Luckily we were only on the third floor, which also came in handy when the elevators were packed and we had to use the stairs. Additionally, someone needs to brief the gift shop staff on basic customer service and yes I am specifically pointing out the one lady from that morning whose name I don't even remember. But she was the only one there and I'm sure easy to single out. I thought about deducting a star due to our experience with her but I'm not going to let one person overshadow an otherwise great stay. Everyone else from the front desk to the breakfast staff to even the guy testing the pool PH was so friendly and pleasant. Add in the proximity to literally everything including the beach and we will most definitely be staying here again. We like to visit the area at least once a year and have yet to find a hotel we would return to.

The 2 highlights for them were the pool and their bacon-infused free hot breakfast. As for the Grandparents, Gayle sat for hours by the pool watching them, having a really good breakfast ourselves, nd enjoying our favorite adult beverages and snacks at the evening reception. The room was Embassy Suites standard, which means main bed room, the separate living room (with sofa bed for the girls), and a single bathroom and counter (with fridge and microwave) in between. There was plenty of room for all of us, and affording just the right degree of semi-privacy. We all slept well too. The only minor complaint was the multiple efforts to get extra coffee and glasses as our stay continued. There's also the observation that the base hotel room, includes a number of local and state tax add-ons, a $20 daily parking charge and a $15 destination fee. But for our party of 4, this was our best and most economical choice that I could figure out at the time.

Days later I saw someone had left a review on Google saying that room clearly has a mold problem, and I wonder if that's what we were smelling. The room was really clean besides the little table by the couch that had sticky cup rings on it. I have a toddler so I just wiped it with a baby wipe, not a big deal. The bed, towels, bathroom, and other tables were nice and clean. The sign on the AC that says the wall thermostat controls it, felt like a scam. Because I'll tell you now, the wall thermostat absolutely does NOT connect to the AC. The sign on the AC was hanging sideways, showing all the control buttons. Whatever glue was used wasn't sticking well. So I just moved it, and set it to what we wanted it at. It was set to low at 74 degrees. I set it to 69 on high, and before we left just set it back and put the sign back on. Not sure if I would stay here again, but the experience wasnt bad. I would probably just pick a different room.

I assume it was a clog from the previous guest. My bed was comfortable and renovation fortunately wasn't overly disruptive on the noise front. Picture this: Thanksgiving leftovers are gone, everyone's off work for a few days, and boredom kicks in. So naturally we decided to take an impromptu road trip up the California coast on a holiday weekend with ZERO reservations. Yes. That was our brilliant plan. To be fair, we knew exactly what we were getting ourselves into. Hotel availability would be about as scarce as the leftovers back at home. But honestly? The adventure was the point. We ended up booking this hotel with a "standard room" while sitting in a restaurant eating dinner. My husband kept saying, "It's just one night. BOOK IT" and so I did. When we arrived, the woman at the front desk was incredibly kind and welcoming. She let us know they only had one room left and the bed was a full-size instead of a queen or king. I frowned and my husband gave me the universal exhausted husband look of, I truly do not care, I need sleep. The front desk agent even offered to let us look at the room first and said if we didn't like it, we could cancel with no penalty. That alone was appreciated. Now, I'm not going to lie the setup gave very classic roadside motel vibes. Open walkways, doors facing outside, the kind of place where someone could walk right up from the street to your room. I did my little internal cringe...but I knew Mr. Sleepy Pants wanted to sleep. We checked out the room, accepted our fate, and stayed. The room itself was actually very clean and comfortable. It had both a fridge and microwave, which was a nice surprise. I also asked for extra blankets because even at home in our king size bed we somehow fight like survivalists over blanket territory, and she happily gave us plenty. There was also a small concession area with snacks, which was convenient after a long drive. At the end of the day, if you're passing through and just need a clean, comfy place to sleep for the night, I honestly see nothing wrong with this property. Sometimes road trips aren't about luxury they're about the memories you laugh about later.

The next day our daughter wanted to eat in the lobby and honestly my wife and I were hesitant after the night before. Thankfully, we met Tanya. Tanya was fantastic. The hotel itself is okay, but social media definitely did it a few favors. Between the maintenance issues, extra fees, and inconsistent service, it wasn't quite the luxury experience we expected. The room itself was spacious, the bed was very comfortable (firm, just how we like it), and the harbor view was absolutely perfect. We were a little concerned after reading reviews about the sea lions being noisy, but we actually loved hearing them from the balcony! Once the balcony door was closed, we couldn't hear them at all, and they never disturbed our sleep. One of our favorite perks was the complimentary binoculars available to guests--they were a fun touch for watching the harbor. And don't miss the sunrise from the fourth-floor rooftop terrace--it's absolutely beautiful! There were just a few minor things that could be improved. The hotel only has one elevator, and it can be quite slow during busy times. We also wish the freshly baked cookies were available throughout the day. One of the highlights of our stay was how the hotel carried such a unique atmosphere and history. It wasn't just a place to sleep--it felt like part of the adventure. Between the ocean views, cozy spaces, and local touches, it really captured the spirit of Monterrey. And then there were the ghost stories. Whether you're a believer or just love a good tale, they add an extra layer of fun and mystery to the stay. If you're someone that believes (or not), go to the front desk and ask for the "book". It had 78 pages of first hand accounts of unexplained happenings from guests. We had a very small moment ourselves, while I was sharing what I uncovered about the ghosts with my significant other in the morning, suddenly the bathroom light just turned on. Nobody was around and they do run on sensors. Not a significant event but certainly was well timed. Overall, Hotel Del Monte struck the perfect balance between comfort, history, and a touch of playful spookiness. Our only negative was that we were given the first room next to the entrance and stairwell, which was not fun to hear folks stomping up and down the stairs and slamming the doors.
