Hubby and I stayed here for a quick getaway. I loved the location and our view from the room was of the lake close by. The room itself was perfect and had a fridge along with the bed, desk and sitting area. They even have ev chargers in the parking garage and daily breakfast buffet that changes along with coffee and juice bar to serve yourself. There is an In n Out across the way too very convenient to the hotel as well as the beach nearby. We plan on staying here again when we return to Monterey next year. read more

The the guy at the front desk was extremely helpful and nice! We stayed in room 220 a few weeks ago and it had a very strong odor. Days later I saw someone had left a review on Google saying that room clearly has a mold problem, and I wonder if that's what we were smelling. The room was really clean besides the little table by the couch that had sticky cup rings on it. I have a toddler so I just wiped it with a baby wipe, not a big deal. The bed, towels, bathroom, and other tables were nice and clean. The sign on the AC that says the wall thermostat controls it, felt like a scam. Because I'll tell you now, the wall thermostat absolutely does NOT connect to the AC. The sign on the AC was hanging sideways, showing all the control buttons. Whatever glue was used wasn't sticking well. So I just moved it, and set it to what we wanted it at. It was set to low at 74 degrees. I set it to 69 on high, and before we left just set it back and put the sign back on. Not sure if I would stay here again, but the experience wasnt bad. Overall this was a great stay. Front desk did their job with no hassles. Big win in my book. No smell of reefer or loud noise through the walls which keeps their winning streak going. Somewhat difficult parking with our 1/2 ton, but that's our vacation truck, what're ya going to do?! They had a neat game room downstairs near the cafe area to lounge (see picture for cool aesthetics). The restrooms had gotten upgraded in just prior to 2021 so they were in good order. The only other gripe was that the elevator was operating beyond its permit expiration, but the pandemic could've played a part in that hold up for inspection and renewal. Brought in the New Year in Monterey and the Hampton Inn had the best value for our 3 night stay. You tell the hotel was recently renovated. Very clean, quaint, and quiet. We had a "lakeview" room, the lake isn't a big attraction, but I guess it's better than looking at the parking lot. Hotel has a single elevator, it's pretty quick but that can delay getting to/from your room. The room was a great size. Had enough room for a sofa and a king size bed. The staff that checked us in was amazing too. The hotel was about 5 minutes from downtown and 10 min from the pier. Seems pretty remote when you're there; however, you aren't too far from anything. Not a bad place to stay for couple nights if you're visiting monterey. Room was clean. I like that they have an ev charging station which is convenient especially for those who have an electric car to charge their cars. You just need to download the charge point app in order to use it. They have hot breakfast from 6:30 am to 10 am. They do have hot water for tea or hot chocolate and coffee all day. I have minimal interaction with the front desk but they were helpful when needed. Only issue I had was the elevator. It makes a big sound like its going break anytime soon whenever entering the elevator. The HVAC fan would blow the curtains into the room when the unit was blowing. Breakfast buffet was good for self-service - loved the Belgian waffle maker. The number of TV stations available was limited. Parking lot appears small and odd shaped but finding a parking space was never an issue. This hotel is okay. The rooms are cute, but the walls are thin. I stayed here for work for about two weeks and I was on the second floor next to the stairwell. Constantly heard the stairwell door opening/shutting all through the night and heard people above me walking around too. There's no microwaves in the rooms (or at least not in mine), so if you need to microwave, you need to use the one in the lobby. The fitness center is a bit lacking. It's got 3 cardio machines and that's about it. Staff was nice, rooms were clean. It's fine for a 1-2 night stay, but I probably wouldn't book here again for a long haul stay. read more

This place is like an overpriced Prison. We did the Sock test and the sicks came out Black, not Gray. There's 9 Doors in our Room, 6 of which have Dead bolts on them. The Ocean View we paid for is the side of the Building with a Bright White Light focused on our only Window. We came down this morning to find our Minivan was broken into. As far as cleanliness is concerned - I'd score 5 stars for being immaculate. And with the threat of covid - our room looked clean, felt clean, WAS clean. But, I'll admit, being overly paranoid I had to do some cleaning of my own just to make myself feel a little safer. 'No offense to housekeeping.' The noise was my big issue - or shall I say 'lack of sound proofing'. The first night my husband and I were watching TV in our room and we could hear the couple next door having an 'intimate moment'. No joke! Lol. It's not that the walls are thin; it's that the beds are loud. You can hear the rapidly repeating 'creeking' and 'squeeking' of the bed frame from our neighbors next door. Then there was the refrigerator in our room that would make a loud humming noise throughout the night. It was pretty bothersome. It was enough to wake me on both nights of our stay. Typically I have quite good experiences at Hampton Inns. This one is no exception. As mentioned, our room was clean. Location is convenient. Service is good. Diamond member parking available though the parking lot is a bit small. They had free breakfast which was good that included eggs, sausages, muffins, waffles etc.. The whole building was a bit dated however the housekeeping does a great job as the rooms itself were tidy and clean! The reason behind the 3 stars is because the first room we were given on the third floor had ants literally crawling all over the bar counter area as well as the bathroom, so we told the front desk and were going to show pictures but he said he believed us and that the ants come in sometimes after the rain. It did rain during the day. We were immediately given another room on the second floor and the front desk even called to ask if everything looked ok! It did so we thanked him and settled in. But after we still spotted a few ants crawling around in the bathroom and ceiling. Because of the ants situation we were extra cautious to not leave food out and to clean everything vigorously so the ants wouldn't find anything to eat and bring their friends. Because of that, it kind of ruined the hotel for me. So unless they start spraying for ants or something, I won't be back. read more

REPLACE THE ELEVATOR My family recently stayed here, and I agree with most of the reviews that say it's a nice, clean, friendly place. Awesome staff, and a pretty good breakfast included as well. My review is all about the elevator. We almost didn't stay here due to another review saying the elevator was loud, would break, and was expired on its safety review date. We decided anyways, and checked (jt was within its safety inspection date, but that day is actually March of 2024, so it's due again now) but yeah... this elevator will break, hopefully nobody is in it, but this review (along with others) are enough warning to the owners; if there's a future lawsuit, the evidence is right here. The elevator is a liability, it has been for months/years, and needs to be fixed. In our time it: - Was extremely loud when starting/stopping - would stop between floors - jolted when starting and stopping - eventually the doors stopped working, and the staff put up a sign explaining how to get out (you have to wait for it to stop at your floor and then hit the door open button or it won't open Great place. Have stayed at Monterey Hampton Inn a few times before and always had good experiences until this time. I am Hilton Diamond for Life because I have stayed in Hilton properties well over 1,000 nights at this point. That said, I have NEVER been treated so rudely by a front desk person! I was using hard earned points for my stay/vacation. VINCENT was working the front desk when we checked in. He told me there would be a $50 hold on my credit card for incidentals which was completely fine. ONLY out of curiosity, I asked what incidentals would be at this Hampton Inn since they do not have a restaurant or bar. He became completely defensive and rude from the question. I tried to calmly explain to him that I was only curious and didn't mind the hold. It was sooo strange because I also stated that I wasn't being argumentative and I felt like we were having miscommunication, but he just continued to act annoyed by me and became more and more rude. I was completely baffled and surprised by his attitude. I then asked him his name and be basically "yelled" Vincent in a loud and condescending way. I guess he knows he will have no repercussions. On other notes, we knew this was a dog friendly hotel and loved that. My travel is mostly business and I don't normally travel with my dog. I take full responsibility for not checking out a pet fee in advance. It was $75 which I feel is very reasonable. Also, parking is free. Location is convenient but doesn't feel super safe to walk around. Hotel condition is fine. To summarize, if not for the rude front desk which put a damper on my vacation, everything else about the hotel was fine. A great base if you bring your own bike to explore Monterey. There is a bike path in front of the hotel. The path will connect you to everywhere. It will take you about 30minutes biking to Lover's Point. The path is flat and will take you to many hidden photo worthy spot. I'm going to review just the breakfast bar here. So, hot breakfast is included and it's a very good quality spread. You have different kind of sugary cereals, oatmeal and its fixing, scramble Eggs with sausage, fruits, waffles, muffins, bread, and...... smoothies. I have never been to a hotel that provides smoothies before. They said it's only chobani yoghurt, banana and Berries or mangoes. Really impressed with this place. For the class of hotel our room was top notch. It doesn't look like much from the outside but our $150 room in the summer in the heart of Monterey was appreciated. Our suite had a bedroom, living area - like a great room with sofa and a second bed so this place could sleep 6. While the kitchen was only a mini fridge and microwave, it still had a dedicated space which added to the square footage. I thought our stay at Hampton Inn was fine and could consider coming back. Front desk was really nice. The location of the hotel is a little weird, just off the highway. It may be a bit noisy during the day with the highway traffic but it does die down as it becomes nighttime. There's not much around the hotel except for like an In-N-Out. It didn't look that nice to walk around at night (a bit deserted and dark) though, so I hope you have your car! They have breakfast every morning from 7-10am and I thought it was fine. They have a waffle machine with vanilla and chocolate batters which was cool. Standard eggs, sausages, some cereal and yogurt etc. Room was decent. We were actually near the elevator but couldn't really hear much noise. Occasionally if someone was super loud nearby we could hear but mostly pretty quiet. The double queen room is a little small (no couch, very tight space for seating otherwise) but ok. The bathroom had this weird sliding door with a weird unconventional lock. The mini fridge was oddly super cold - it froze my strawberries haha. There is a small coffee machine but no microwave. There is one downstairs though along with plates and utensils. We enjoyed our one night stay. This hotel felt very fresh and clean. It's a smaller hotel, but it has everything you would need, nothing extra that you wouldn't really need. The complimentary breakfast is your basic hotel breakfast but nonetheless it was good. This is an older hotel that's been kept up and nicely furnished. It was very quiet and the staff friendly. The hotel is close to everything! Many restaurants, shops and even Costco and Walmart. It is close to the airport so occasionally you'll hear the roar of a jet or two. Fisherman's Wharf, the Aquarium and Cannery Row are minutes away. They do offer breakfast consisting of breakfast burritos, hard boiled eggs, yogurts, muffins and cereal, it worked for us! I would come back again. read more

It's fine if you plan to spend most your time out and about and not at the hotel itself, as everything is relatively close quarters, including the lobby which is extremely small. There are more charming places to stay in Monterey, and within the Hilton chain, but we overall had a nice stay and it was quiet. The room and breakfast area were very clean and it was convenient to access the location and get in and out. Because of the hotels small size it wasn't ever too crowded or busy feeling which was nice. All parking is easy/close to access the building-- no huge parking lots to navigate or long walks with luggage. Service was just okay. Breakfast options just okay, but seating area nice and they do have high chairs for the littles. Don't expect to rely on the tiny snack bar. My favorite thing about this place is you can walk right out from the hotel and onto a walking path that runs beside the lake, then up 1/4 city block to Monterey State Beach in about 10 mins. We booked two rooms. We came here at 2:30 and was able to check in 1. We were told that the other is being cleaned. We came back 5:30 and we were told it hasn't been ready. When I got my room ready and I told front desk Vicent that I am disappointed that it is not ready by 5:30, and then I was educated that I have to electrically sign in to secure my room, even it is a prepaid. Technically it is not my room when I get here at 5:30, even if it is a prepaid. These are all fresh knowledge to me and what he said doesn't make sense to me at all. He did "apologize", you know, in a way that both of us know it is a joke. And he is like a "whatever" like attitude. I had some great experience with several Hampton before but not in recent 3 years. I normally review this place as 5 star customer service. I have been staying here for 5 months and this is the first bad experience. The front desk name ken told me I was rude . I was just telling him that if there is DoorDash delivery to not call me because I get notifications . Instead I got an answer that I don't have to be rude. I have to get out of the shower wet all over to answer my phone !!! I called front desk and my phone but he never answer ! That's what you call very bad customer service . We ask them to cancel the second night. We asked at least for some refund, but they told us if you would come 1 hour ago, we would probably try to do something, but right now, no . Definitely enjoyed our stay here. The staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming , especially the gentleman that checked us in. When I originally booked they only had a king bed with sofa bed but I was offered at check in an available double queen that just became available which was a great offer to make. However for some reason my kids wanted to stick with the sofa bed as it's "cool" they say lol As I was checking in I mentioned we were staying to celebrate one of my child's birthdays, he asked if it was ok to leave a little something for her in our room which I said was fine. When we got to our room after unloading we found a sweet little bucket of snacks with a happy birthday card. Very thoughtful! The room was clean, it's less than a 10 min drive to cannery row, and the hotel offers free parking and breakfast. Nothing fancy but just what you need to get started. I stay at a lot of Hilton properties during the year and most of them are Hampton Inns. Almost all of those stays are satisfactory and I usually give 3 scores to those properties. To me a 3 score for a hotel stay is a good score. When I arrived at this property and checking in and then getting into my room, I felt more like giving a 4. My room looked and felt nicer than usual. Not sure why but it's the way it felt to me. My bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had plenty of space with an attractive sink. One thing that added space to the bathroom was that it had a sliding door rather than the typical swing door. Also the room had a small portico with 3 windows that added visual appeal to it. On our last day, the manager on duty(same one that checked us in)and 3 other people(I believe they were just her friends, we were the only ones staying in the hotel) were in the breakfast area making pancakes for themselves, yet we didn't get a hot breakfast!?! Two of these people were smoking marijuana in their car, which was right outside the back(parking lot)entrance. I hope who ever is the owner of this hotel looks into this unprofessional behavior!!
