If you like hotels rooms with really low lighting, putting your makeup on in the dark, VERY low water pressure both in the shower and the sink, toilets that are sized for preschoolers, and having to make several maintenance calls, then you will LOVE this hotel! The staff, with the exception of the valet team, is very very nice and professional and helpful. The valet team doesn't care about service and has no sense of urgency. (Also, $42.00 per night, and no self park option) The room was very clean, has no carpet, which I appreciate, but they no longer have box springs on the beds, which makes them very low to the ground and not super comfortable. There was only one outlet in the vanity area that was coming out of the wall, and I probably should have moved one of the lamps over there to see myself in the mirror. Only one small towel bar in the bathroom, no other hooks for pajamas, additional towels, etc. I hate the sink. It's a large flat, shallow rectangle and water splashed EVERYWHERE, no matter how careful you were. I'd be willing to bet that some of the design choices were made by people who never stay in hotels. Marriott is an excellent brand, but when you're paying $500+ per night, you'd expect to walk away feeling good about your stay. PRO TIP: Check your security lock to make sure that when you turn the knob, the lock actually goes into the door. read more

The Monterey Marriott is primarily a convention hotel, which is what brought me there on several occasions. It is a straightforward, dependable Marriott with comfortable rooms, although the property felt a little tired and could benefit from a thoughtful refresh. What distinguishes it is the location, with easy access to downtown Monterey, Old Fisherman's Wharf, and the waterfront activities around the harbor. Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium are also nearby, giving business travelers plenty to do once the meetings end. Beyond Monterey itself, the hotel works well as a practical base for exploring one of the most beautiful and historically rich parts of California. The 17-Mile Drive runs through Pebble Beach and offers extraordinary coastal scenery, while continuing south brings you into Carmel-by-the-Sea, a charming town with galleries, restaurants, and a beautiful beach. Golfers are also exceptionally well positioned near the Pebble Beach complex and its world-renowned courses, while Big Sur is close enough for a memorable day trip. I feel fortunate to have visited this region several times because it is somewhat difficult to reach. I stayed here for a work related trip and thought it was one of the nicer Marriotts that I've stayed in within the per diem budget (IYKYK). Conveniently located in downtown Monterey, the hotel is in a great location and both the room and common facilities felt spacious, comfortable, and well maintained. One of the highlights of the stay was the staff. Everyone I interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and professional. The only downside was the noise. My room faced an area where street cleaning took place early in the morning, and it was loud enough to interrupt my sleep. If you're a light sleeper, it may be worth requesting a room away from the street. For those who are driving in / renting a car, please note that they only offer valet at this hotel and there isn't self parking available. read more

Clean & modern decor in an historical building. True to the Marriott branding model and managed by Bonvoy. Food is always good, especially the breakfast buffet with ample offerings for all tastebuds. Restaurant is a bit noisy due to the type of furniture & flooring, but room service is an option for guests. For locals, we love the weekend buffet!! Staff is always nice & helpful. The top floor has a lovely event space with Bay & harbor views that include the Santa Lucia Mountain Range. Banquet food is meh... pretty presentation, but definitely prepared by a cook and not a chef. Beware the vegan/veg options as the cook just coats them in spices to mask the lack of cooking experience. Opt for the fish cuz it's Monterey. The hotel is next to the Conference Center, so it's convenient for event attendance. Also, Marriott caters all meals & snacks at the Conference Center. read more

Housekeeping on the 5th floor in particular need attention - towels left in the hallways and not picked up in days. Hallways needed to be vacuumed. The rooms were updated despite the exterior of the hotel looking very distressed. Management please train your staff that when DND is on the door that means do not come in the room. I was left scrambling for a hotel room when my prior arrangements fell through. I was able to get a room at the Marriott hotel in downtown Monterey. Not going to soft sell this, the price was well ... pricey. But the customer service was excellent and the room was what was expected at that price. The hotel is quite large with its meandering hallways and circuitous stairwells. Even the lobby gave off airport terminal vastness vibes. The interior public spaces and hotel room were beautifully decorated and designed giving off a modern metro feel. They have a restaurant onsite serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The swimming pool was outside with the hotel rooms surrounding all four sides of it. So if you are looking for some peace and quiet, you might not want to book the rooms around the pool area. Parking is on site is an additional fee and is valet only. It's an unground parking lot. They have electric chargers but there are a limited number of them and there is no guarantee they'll be available when you need them. The valets were all super helpful and efficient. There are other non Marriott local parking options. For an additional fee, dogs are allowed with the hotel guests.But not sure if there are any green spaces for them to do their business. I saw a dog relieving himself out front on the sidewalk. Overall more pros than cons and definitely a solid hotel portion in Monterey if this falls into your budget. read more

Three of us stayed the night of 3/8/26 during a road trip. The facility is wonderful. The lobby, the bar, the rooms - Everything was perfect, with two notes: 1. The bar staff was completely oblivious when we sat down for a drink that afternoon. We had to walk around to the other side of the bar to ask to have our order taken. We were the only three people at the bar, and they definitely saw us because they were washing glasses within 10 feet of us. They were friendly, but not bartender friendly. 2. The plumbing in our room was REALLY LOUD. I'm not sure I've ever stayed at a Marriott with plumbing this loud. read more

My stay was pleasant, with clean and well appointed rooms appropriate for a business trip, and reasonable prices (below $600 for two nights after fees and taxes). They have a restaurant on site with excellent food, and valet parking is $39 a night, though I self-parked at a city lot two blocks away for $12 per night. Happy to return. read more

Beautiful modern hotel, clean room and impeccable customer service. Valet only. Ive been parking in the street even though the valet already paid by my employer. I just don't like waiting for the car and I rarely carrying cash for tips. Very minimum room amenities, only soap, lotion, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, in which the shampoo was empty when we arrived. When I requested extra towels, creamers, Coffees, blanket, and microwave, they came bringing it quickly. Heated outdoor swimming pool in which very nice. Working hot tub. Only one. Some hotels this big have more than one hot tub. Restrooms for swimming pools accessible inside the building, in which you would need a key to go back to the pool area. Restroom have one stall of restroom and one stall for showering. Gym was decent size, overlooking the hot tub/ swimming pools. Breakfast can be buffet or a la carte. Buffet $35 per adult and $15 kids 12 and under. No coffee provided in the lobby, but available for purchase. Breakfast buffet is full buffet (pastries, omelette station, oatmeal, cereals, fruits, bacon, sausage, chorizo, steam rice, "congee" (was more mushed rice with soup). All drinks have to be served by the waitress. For almost $300 a night (some rates were more than $400), I just thought breakfast and coffee should be included, just like the other Marriott chain. Most of the time I just need 2 toasts and two cups of coffees, so at least those simple perks, I think, was very basic, and should be necessity. Mobile key was on and off, sometime worked, sometimes the "unlock door" option was missing from the app and had to re request in which a hassle. This was a big difference with Hilton and Marriott and often played a big role in me choosing lodging. I am member for both, and I often chose the other one because of the flexibility choosing my own room through the app prior to arriving, consistent mobile key function, evening reception and breakfast (I tend to ALWAYS lose the physical room key anyway, so mobile key function worked amazingly for me). Another thing too, with the other brand, I usually didn't have to stop by front desk when checking in, which was so helpful after a long travel. This Marriott next to the Monterey Conference distance and 5 minutes walk to the Old Fisherman Grotto, in which a row of fun little shops and restaurants. You can walked along the bike path overlooking the yachts and boats, and occasionally could spot crabs, or sea lions. 9 minutes walk and you got to the Monterey Station where the beach was clean and so quiet. It was a nice stay, bed was comfortable with fluffy pillows, but for next work function/ pleasure visit, I would choose another Marriott that offers self parking with simple breakfast included. read more

The hospitality is always great at a Marriott property and Monterey Marriott is no exception. I stayed here for a three day conference. The room was very spacious and clean. The sheets were silky soft. Our only complaint was that the pillows were too squishy and offered zero support. They asked on check in if we wanted housekeeping daily or if we wanted to forego it. I think this is the norm now, post COVID. Meeting room facilities were average, but what really stood out was the food! Breakfast, lunch and snacks were really good! My coworkers and I have never thought that even at some of the swankiest hotels we've been to at this particular annual conference that changes venues every year. There's a complimentary trolly that will take you around the area from 10am-6pm. Valet is a hefty $39/night. EV charging is not guaranteed, slow at 10kw/hr, and there's only two chargers available. We used my car once over our three night stay so the charging ended up not being an issue. read more

I stayed here recently for the Pacific Grove Lighthouse 5k and the Monterey Bay Half marathon. This is the race hotel and it was conveniently located next to the expo, next to the start and finish for the half and two miles away from the 5k. It was definitely pricey and I splurged for the privilege but they did not disappoint. Check in was stream lined. I was able to get to the valet area and someone was already there to help me unload all my luggage while someone else was handing me a slip for my car and then I watched it disappear underground while entering inside to check in. I had the mobile app but I like to check in anyway in case my mobile key doesn't work. They handed me water while I waited but front desk had everyone manning the desks to make this process flow because I think a majority of the people decided to stay here. My room was nice and spacious and luckily near the elevators and the ice/hydration. When I got back from each of the races, they had a water station setup and someone at the elevators to push the buttons. Excessive but I loved all the attention to the runners. They took their role as race hotel seriously. Power went out on Sunday night but they brought me a flashlight until power came back on and a breakfast voucher. I was considering checking out early if it didn't come on but I was so tired and glad it didn't last long. Breakfast this morning was lovely and the hot coffee really hit the spot. It was an overall lovely weekend and made my race weekend so enjoyable. Using the app to request things went smoothly, I just wish I had known you have to request housekeeping when you check in or else no one will come to your room but oh well. I'm doing Big Sur next year and seriously considering staying here because it's so close to everything - downtown, the expo, fisherman's wharf and cannery row. Not having to drive or walk far for food and entertainment is a major plus. read more

I have always given this hotel 5 stars, but I think I may have been blinded by the room upgrades I received. The non upgrade rooms seem to need some TLC. The gym has always been my biggest complaint and it's even worse now. Half of the dumbbells have disappeared. Please knock out another room and make the gym double the space. They dramatically increase the room rate during conferences. Over $400 a night this week. Next week (during thanksgiving) just over $200 a night. Ridiculous. read more

In the short time during check in, we saw one dog pee all over the floor in front of check in desk and another hair dog rolling around one of the couches in the lobby. That's just gross. Breakfast is ok, better than most, but no egg whites which is a bummer. The bathroom has two outlets and no place to hang towels. It is also the darkest bathroom, I can't even see to put make up on. The lighted mirror is lame and doesn't help. If they had more outlets I would have went to the store to buy a lamp, it was that bad. read more

Very comfortable stay. I was here for a military conference and the conference was directly across the street at the convention center. I enjoyed walking to the pier and all of the great restaurants centrally located. I appreciated they provided purified water everywhere and they had a good gym. Stayed here for a short getaway from the city and to visit Monterey. The location is very nice and easily walkable to the pier. The hotel itself is also quite large and lots of conference room space and a nice breakfast buffet area. We had an upgraded room which was new and modern however there are a lot of pros and cons. I liked how new the room was and it had a pool view. The room was semi clean (some stains on the counter) and shower newly renovated. The bad was that the walls are paper thin. I can hear the neighbors snoring, anyone in the hall way and someone was on their cellphone at the pool at 6 am and it woke us up and I could hear them talk as if I was right next to them. Moreover, Valet parking is a total rip off. DON'T PAY FOR IT! There is plenty of street parking for free especially on weekends you can just park 1 block away in the 2 hour parking zone overnight for free which I think starts at 9am (i think) and ends at 6pm so you essentially can park until 11am and park at 4pm. Sundays is also free all day on the street without time limits. The breakfast buffet is pretty nice though. Lots of choices and i liked their omelet bar. Donuts and pastries are fresh and ordered locally. Overall, we have a fun time here. Not a bad experience but also not the best hotel I've been to. Nice average hotel stay. read more

Overall, very happy with the staff and service , for this honestly it would be 5 star. Location is great right by the pier and lots of shops and eating in walking distance. Only reason really for the 4 star is the building is a little older , and no self parking ... well a few blocks away. That said I would recommend staying here and will be back for sure. Tried the happy hour and have to say the drinks and food was excellent and not bad price for a waterfront hotel in NorCal. Again , want to compliment the staff , valet , front desk , maid and bartender , all helped make the visit enjoyable ! This hotel in Monterey is wonderful and what makes it extremely ideal is the location! Just a block away from downtown Monterey, you can step out and walk to grab coffee, dinner and drinks, or go to the beach (a little farther of a walk)! They have a great outdoor lounge area with a nice hot tub, pool and outdoor bar where they also host events. The restaurant and bar are nicely situated away from the rooms. There are plenty of valets to park your car, or you can self park about a block from the hotel entrance. But don't let that put you off as you can unload your car in front of the hotel entrance located off the street so you don't block traffic. Overall, a great hotel in downtown Monterey that I would absolutely stay at again. read more

We had to checkout a day earlier than our original reservation as an elderly parent was hospitalized and we have to deal with all the corresponding issues with taking care of family. Asked Marriott for a refund or even a rescheduling because we liked the hotel so much. Staff is excellent and the rooms are well appointed and clean. As long as you are blowing the budget go a bit further and pay the additional cost for a bay view - request 6,7,8 or 914. These rooms have windows on 2 sides and provide a nice view. Good WiFi, plenty of light and hot water. Checks the comfort boxes. Loved our stay at the Monterey Marriott--definitely 5 stars! Check-in had a complicated booking issue, but front desk manager Emily (I think) stepped in to help Isaiah fix it fast and professionally. She was extremely friendly, patient, and so helpful--we were really thankful! The hotel is beautiful with a great heated pool and hot tub, plus a nice restaurant and bar (the beer tasting was fun!). Staff were smiling and friendly everywhere--the bell desk took our bags right to the room, super easy. Prime spot: short walk to Fisherman's Wharf and tons of downtown restaurants/food options steps away. Parking tip: Skip valet and use the nearby City of Monterey self-parking lot (a block away, like Calle Principal Garage). Pay via the easy ParkMobile app during enforced hours (9am-6pm Mon-Sat)--you can choose hourly ($1.50/hr) or the full day max (~$8 + small ~$0.40 app fee). Free after 6pm until morning. If the lower covered lot fills up, try the upper level. Note: Signage in the lot can be a bit confusing with all the details, so snap a pic of the main sign or check the app/zone number right away. Came in for 1 night with some friends from out of town and I will say, even though being a Bonvoy member and its free, you don't really get much and there are never any upgrades or anything available they promote about being loyal to them. Front desk staff and restaurant staff are always friendly and accommodating , but the bathroom was dirty when i checked in. But the view is nice on clear weather days (sadly, I came here late winter, so things were little more blustery.) However, if you don't have such restrictions and arrive in the spring and summer, the view'll be great and food will be satisfying. Nothing that would prevent one from seeking out better trendier options in town or within walking distance. Room was spacious and well kept. Stayed here for a weekend visit, chosen solely for its proximity to the wharf area- and racking up Marriott Bonvoy points. We utilized valet parking which was a seamless experience. The valet team was very diligent and friendly. The front desk staff was very friendly. We were given the option of daily housekeeping and opted for this. We like a clean room. This location allowed us many dining and shopping conveniences. I could not recommend the breakfast buffet, as I don't usually eat $30 worth of breakfast. I opted for a single menu item. The Classic Eggs Benedict Hollandaise was buttery rich and savory- probably the best I've ever had. Our room was a two double bed option with a pool view. Although the pool was very busy, we heard the hotel team keep the 10 o'clock enforcement. It's Summer--People enjoy being in a pool! No complaints here. Our room was modern and very clean.
