Explanation of $20/night destination fee
LaRae B.

Excellent location in downtown Monterey, within walking distance to the wharf and restaurants. The hotel itself feels a bit dark and dated, but overall it's a solid choice. FEES: No self-parking, valet $45 per night. Save money and park at the nearby Calle Principal municipal lot (468 Calle Principal). It's only $8 per day and hours of enforcement are 9 am- 6 pm Monday-Saturday. $20 daily "destination fee" which includes a $10 food & beverage credit at the hotel's restaurant, craft beer tastings, beach chair and towel rentals, and internet access. I only needed the Wi-Fi that I get free for being a Bonvoy member so the other stuff seemed like "weird reasons to tack on an extra 20 bucks". Dogs are welcome, with a one-time $70 non-refundable pet fee per stay.

I was left scrambling for a hotel room when my prior arrangements fell through. I was able to get a room at the Marriott hotel in downtown Monterey. Not going to soft sell this, the price was well ... pricey. But the customer service was excellent and the room was what was expected at that price. The hotel is quite large with its meandering hallways and circuitous stairwells. Even the lobby gave off airport terminal vastness vibes. The interior public spaces and hotel room were beautifully decorated and designed giving off a modern metro feel. They have a restaurant onsite serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The swimming pool was outside with the hotel rooms surrounding all four sides of it. So if you are looking for some peace and quiet, you might not want to book the rooms around the pool area. Parking is on site is an additional fee and is valet only. It's an unground parking lot. They have electric chargers but there are a limited number of them and there is no guarantee they'll be available when you need them. The valets were all super helpful and efficient. There are other non Marriott local parking options. For an additional fee, dogs are allowed with the hotel guests. But not sure if there are any green spaces for them to do their business. I saw a dog relieving himself out front on the sidewalk. Overall more pros than cons and definitely a solid hotel portion in Monterey if this falls into your budget.

Solid hotel in downtown, conveniently connected by a walkway to the Monterey Conference Center across the street. My stay was pleasant, with clean and well appointed rooms appropriate for a business trip, and reasonable prices (below $600 for two nights after fees and taxes). They have a restaurant on site with excellent food, and valet parking is $39 a night, though I self-parked at a city lot two blocks away for $12 per night. Happy to return.

Beautiful modern hotel, clean room and impeccable customer service. Valet only. Ive been parking in the street even though the valet already paid by my employer. I just don't like waiting for the car and I rarely carrying cash for tips. Very minimum room amenities, only soap, lotion, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, in which the shampoo was empty when we arrived. When I requested extra towels, creamers, Coffees, blanket, and microwave, they came bringing it quickly. Heated outdoor swimming pool in which very nice. Working hot tub. Only one. Some hotels this big have more than one hot tub. Restrooms for swimming pools accessible inside the building, in which you would need a key to go back to the pool area. Restroom have one stall of restroom and one stall for showering. Gym was decent size, overlooking the hot tub/ swimming pools. Breakfast can be buffet or a la carte. Buffet $35 per adult and $15 kids 12 and under. No coffee provided in the lobby, but available for purchase. Breakfast buffet is full buffet (pastries, omelette station, oatmeal, cereals, fruits, bacon, sausage, chorizo, steam rice, "congee" (was more mushed rice with soup). All drinks have to be served by the waitress. For almost $300 a night (some rates were more than $400), I just thought breakfast and coffee should be included, just like the other Marriott chain. Most of the time I just need 2 toasts and two cups of coffees, so at least those simple perks, I think, was very basic, and should be necessity. Mobile key was on and off, sometime worked, sometimes the "unlock door" option was missing from the app and had to re request in which a hassle. This was a big difference with Hilton and Marriott and often played a big role in me choosing lodging. I am member for both, and I often chose the other one because of the flexibility choosing my own room through the app prior to arriving, consistent mobile key function, evening reception and breakfast (I tend to ALWAYS lose the physical room key anyway, so mobile key function worked amazingly for me). Another thing too, with the other brand, I usually didn't have to stop by front desk when checking in, which was so helpful after a long travel. This Marriott next to the Monterey Conference distance and 5 minutes walk to the Old Fisherman Grotto, in which a row of fun little shops and restaurants. You can walked along the bike path overlooking the yachts and boats, and occasionally could spot crabs, or sea lions. 9 minutes walk and you got to the Monterey Station where the beach was clean and so quiet. It was a nice stay, bed was comfortable with fluffy pillows, but for next work function/ pleasure visit, I would choose another Marriott that offers self parking with simple breakfast included.

The hospitality is always great at a Marriott property and Monterey Marriott is no exception. I stayed here for a three day conference. The room was very spacious and clean. The sheets were silky soft. Our only complaint was that the pillows were too squishy and offered zero support. They asked on check in if we wanted housekeeping daily or if we wanted to forego it. I think this is the norm now, post COVID. Meeting room facilities were average, but what really stood out was the food! Breakfast, lunch and snacks were really good! My coworkers and I have never thought that even at some of the swankiest hotels we've been to at this particular annual conference that changes venues every year. There's a complimentary trolly that will take you around the area from 10am-6pm. Valet is a hefty $39/night. EV charging is not guaranteed, slow at 10kw/hr, and there's only two chargers available. We used my car once over our three night stay so the charging ended up not being an issue.

Gym (what's left of it)
Christine A.

I have always given this hotel 5 stars, but I think I may have been blinded by the room upgrades I received. The non upgrade rooms seem to need some TLC. The gym has always been my biggest complaint and it's even worse now. Half of the dumbbells have disappeared. Please knock out another room and make the gym double the space. They dramatically increase the room rate during conferences. Over $400 a night this week. Next week (during thanksgiving) just over $200 a night. Ridiculous.

Was in Monterey for a wedding and this hotel was a decent walk to the venue. Got a room with a bay view and def didnt disappoint. The valet was great, check in was on point even though we had to wait for our room. They gave us a voucher to wait at the bar and we enjoyed that. The only thing that was a challenge was that we weren't made aware that housekeeping service was upon request only. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay.

Just dated hotel
Million Dollar B.

This hotel is a bit dated Shower water pressure is 10/10 Sink water pressure is 3/10 Pillows 3:/10 The onsite restaurant is a 6:/10 I will say the water rations in each floor are nice Even though my preferences say room away from elevator I was placed next to elevator Would I stay here again Ehhhh probabaly not

This hotel in Monterey is wonderful and what makes it extremely ideal is the location! Just a block away from downtown Monterey, you can step out and walk to grab coffee, dinner and drinks, or go to the beach (a little farther of a walk)! They have a great outdoor lounge area with a nice hot tub, pool and outdoor bar where they also host events. The restaurant and bar are nicely situated away from the rooms. There are plenty of valets to park your car, or you can self park about a block from the hotel entrance. But don't let that put you off as you can unload your car in front of the hotel entrance located off the street so you don't block traffic. Overall, a great hotel in downtown Monterey that I would absolutely stay at again.

Some special rates are. They have a lovely buffet breakfast that has an omelette bar. I highly suggest to include it with your booking.

We enjoyed their rooftop spa overlooking the bay- next level. The entrance to the hotel opens up to a beautiful first floor with ocean view, large fireplace, sofas and seating areas, and a small bar. The hotel offers a nightly happy hour and musical performances. During our visit we had the pleasure to discover a highly talented artist by the name of Adrea, who has the most incredible voice and presence. We were so impressed by her and were very fortunate that she performed both nights of our visit. It was a performance we would have gladly paid to see, she is a rising talent for sure. I can't state how exceptional our experience was to enjoy the music in such an elevated atmosphere, relaxing by the fire, enjoying the outstanding craft cocktails by their highly talented mixologist. Schooners is not to be missed, the food is as outstanding as the ocean view! A special mention to the superior customer care provided by Pracha, a guest service manager at the hotel, who is an absolute star. This was our second time staying in Monterey and I had been looking forward to staying at this hotel someday. It was everything I imagined and more! The service was exceptional from the valet to the bellhop to registration and restaurant staff. We are also IHG elite members and we were given a room upgrade with a thoughtful card and gift for our anniversary. Our room was facing the ocean on Cannery Row with a balcony. It was a very nice, spacious and clean room with alot of thoughtful attention like providing refillable water bottles, robes and an amazing Nespresso machine. There was also a wine bar and snacks available for purchase. The hotel had a wonderful scent throughout and we enjoyed walking through the ocean vibes staircase featuring a jellyfish. Definitely look for that! We loved having our anniversary dinner at The C Restaurant, but that will be another well earned review on it's own. However, we did have two negative experiences, one was that we waited a bit too long for our car at the valet once and there was an accidental spa charge on our receipt when checking out. I still gave them 5 stars because they rectified it right away and even removed the valet charge for us, which was much appreciated. I would love to come back to this hotel someday to bring my parents and we hope you love it too!!

The hotel itself is beautiful, and the ocean views from our room were a huge highlight. The room was very clean and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed and more. The fireplace, tub, and private deck really elevated the whole experience. It was also great having a spa and restaurant right on site, adding even more convenience and relaxation to our stay. Toddler Notes for the Hotel: [[ Pro's ]] 1.) The room we got on the 3rd floor corner was very spacious and had a ton of room. We were able to set up a pack and play and still had a generous amount of room left to walk around. 2.) Blackout shades and see-through shades for double coverage which keeps the room nice and dark at night. 3.) Location is great as it's super close to Cannery Row, lots of restaurants, and Monterey Bay Aquarium which was our ultimate destination. 4.) Parking Garage is free and decently sized and can fit a mid-size SUV with no issues. It will get tighter if you have a humongous full-SUV though (see pictures). [[ Con's ]] 1.) So Many STAIRS. Like legitimately, there are so many stairs. I took a ton of pictures to give you an idea. Stairs coming down from the elevator, stairs between floors, etc. This is not very young kid friendly when you have a stroller, a bunch of kid items, etc. I'm not sure I would stay here again due to the amount of stairs and inconvenience. 2.) Noise Level - If your kid is sensitive to noise, be prepared to have a ton of sound machines because you really could hear a ton of things. Cars, honking, other people's rooms, etc. 3.) Shower - It did seem a bit rusty in certain places and our shower wouldn't drain so there was a big puddle the whole time we were showering. The steam also set off the fire alarm like another person mentioned. Quick conclusion - I think it's an okay IHG hotel but not very good for families with young kids. Good for the location though.

I would definitely stay here again if I wasn't looking to splurge and just wanted a room for the night.

We were able to go to the pier every day we were in Monterey to enjoy looking at the boats and the animals. We also really enjoyed how close it was to old town and restaurants, bakeries, and a Walgreens. The room itself was simple, but beautiful and big enough for our family of four. This was a clean room. You can tell that the staff care about the building and the space. The bed and pillows were just fine. It was fun to be a little bit further away from the elevator. We only tried breakfast at the restaurant but it was great. The serving sizes were huge. Definitely could have split one plate between 2 people. Even the kids meal was a large portion size. I will say however, that this is not the most accessible hotel if you have a stroller or wheelchair. The lobby has an accessible lift (the entrance is at the bottom of a small staircase), but we didnt know this when first walking over. So I spent a few minutes walking around the property trying to look for a way to get my stroller and 2 kids up to the front desk. The lift is also pretty narrow. I have a tandem double stroller so I was able to fit, but I dont think I would have been able to use the lift if I had a side by side double stroller. The only other way to get up to the lobby is to go through one of the elevators in the parking garage. But if you didn't park in the garage, then you'd have to walk your stroller (or move your wheelchair) into the parking garage and then use the correct elevator to get to the main lobby. Having small kids, this was just more inconvenient than anything. Not the hotel's fault, but just not a great fit for us at this time. I am grateful that they have multiple elevators throughout the parking garage so that you dont have to walk all the way across the property to use the elevator. The hotel was also recently renovated, but the attention to detail just wasnt there. One of the towel hooks in our bathroom was hanging off our wall, the light in the hallway was crooked and was very wobbly, and there was a panel that was supposed to covering the wires from the phone that was kinda just hanging loosely. Not a big deal for us, but just things that we noticed that could've used some work. Overall, not a bad hotel, but the stroller accessibility was just not a great fit for us as a family with young kids.

So either housekeeping was being dishonest about finding it originally, or they're being dishonest about changing the bedding between guests.) And now, after nearly a month of waiting, calling, and emailing, the kindle was FINALLY mailed. My initial review still stands. What an incredibly disappointing and frustrating experience. "Disappointed" would be an understatement. Booked one night (using points) at this property and really wish we hadn't. Was charged a mystery $50 fee at check in. Then at checkout we asked what it was for, the guy working the front desk didn't have a clue and he tried to say he'd fix it "when the computers were working again." When we called his bluff by saying we'd come back in an hour, it was magically fixed. Shady! The room itself was meh... the floors were strangely sloped/didn't feel level. The real kicker here: there was no bedside table on my side of the bed (an inconvenience in itself), so my kindle was placed on the bed with me. I unfortunately forgot my kindle on the bed and didn't realize until we had checked out and were hours away. We called the hotel and were told they didn't find anything in the room. I know for a fact it was left in that room (I've double triple quadruple checked my luggage and there's no where else it could possibly be). Again, SHADY.

The rooms were clean, comfortable, and had a warm charm that made it easy to relax after a day of exploring the city. One of the highlights of our stay was how the hotel carried such a unique atmosphere and history. It wasn't just a place to sleep--it felt like part of the adventure. Between the ocean views, cozy spaces, and local touches, it really captured the spirit of Monterrey. And then there were the ghost stories. Whether you're a believer or just love a good tale, they add an extra layer of fun and mystery to the stay. If you're someone that believes (or not), go to the front desk and ask for the "book". It had 78 pages of first hand accounts of unexplained happenings from guests. We had a very small moment ourselves, while I was sharing what I uncovered about the ghosts with my significant other in the morning, suddenly the bathroom light just turned on. Nobody was around and they do run on sensors. Not a significant event but certainly was well timed. Overall, Hotel Del Monte struck the perfect balance between comfort, history, and a touch of playful spookiness. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Monterrey that has access to a military installation--especially if you're looking for more than just a hotel, but a memorable experience.
