The room was actually disgusting. I went in to take a shower and I noticed the wall moved when I turned on the water. It was covered in the last guests hair. I have never seen anything like it in any hotel I have been in. To top it all off the bed also had a bunch of miscellaneous hairs all over the sheets. I could tell the room hadn't been cleaned at all. The staff did clean it upon request and apologized but the wall of hair in the shower was just too much for me . read more

I was surprised at the quality of this hotel! I came for a conference that was hosted here and the attached building which was super convenient. The bed was comfortable, the room was spacious and comfortable, the breakfast buffet may be one of the best I've ever had ($32). The staff was nice and the hotel seemed to be very clean. The one and only thing I didn't love was that I was in a room that had one of those doors attaching to the next room inside and I could hear every single thing. They also give you the ability to sign into Netflix on the tv which is a game changer! read more

Ok, so first thing's first. The rooms are nice and the lobby is beautiful. It looks recently renovated on the inside. The breakfast is actually really good, too. Oh, and they have free washers and dryers for guests. That's the good. On the bad side of things, first of all the entrance sucks. It's so tiny that cars are just backed up down the road trying to get to the valet. When you pick your car up, it's a nightmare trying to get out of the driveway because it's so packed. Also, the whole second floor had flooding in the rooms due to heavy rains. The building is old. While it is cosmetically nice, it's just structurally showing it's age. read more

The Monterey Marriott is very cleanly and the staff is friendly. There is valet available but no public parking garage. The hotel itself has great amenities including a gym and outdoor pool area. We have an awful experience at this hotel. Pros: Front Desk Staff: They were lovely and honestly all deserve raises for having to deal with such a broken hotel. Restaurant Staff: Equally lovely. Con's: Check in: it was raining when we arrived and they had a line of empty parked cars under the covering and were having guests that were checking in unload themselves in the rain. We have an infant with us and after waiting for cover or help my husband just pulled her out of the car and I covered her with an umbrella and ran in. He then had to unload the car himself and got soaking wet. They also say they have electric car changing BUT CANNOT TELL YOU OF THEY WILL CHARGE YOUR CAR. It's like, a surprise. Room: We requested a room with a bathtub which they gave us. However the drain was broken. We finallly got it to semi plug but then couldn't get it to unplug. Then when we hung up a towel on the bar in the shower it fell down. Security: This is the part that really gets me. At 10:30pm the fire alarm goes off. Not just for a few mins but for a good 20 mins. The whole place evacuates, again, in the rain. We woke up our sleeping infant to evacuate the hotel. We get outside and are standing in the rain at the side of the building which a bunch of other guests using the same exist route. We finally walk to the front of the hotel (in the rain with an infant) and notice people are going back inside. But there are some people outside still confused and nobody from the hotel telling us anything. So we go back inside and ask the front desk (who can't leave their station) what's up and they're like "oh it's a false alarm". Ok then WHY did you let it go off for so long and why are you letting your guests stand outside in the cold and rain instead of telling them to come back in. One little girl was crying she was so scared. Because of the sleep disruption our daughter was up on and off for hours, all night. Honestly I'm considering putting a stop on my credit card for the room charge because this was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. read more

For Starbucks fans, there is one just across the street from the main entrance. There are many small restaurants and fast foods around the hotel. The hotel has been updated but there is an unpleasant old carpet smell. Parking is $45 per day with unlimited in/out privileges 24 x 7. Front desk staffs are friendly and helpful. We may try a different hotel on future visits though. read more

From the moment we arrived, we felt safe and cared for. They are serious about staying Covid safe. Everyone is masked, sanitizer is available, there was someone monitoring the elevators to ensure they were limited to one group. There was a heat wave while we were there, and there was always someone offering bottled water - the valets, in the lobby, at the desks. They were very generous with it, and attentive to our needs. The Saturday we arrived, they began serving a limited menu dinner cooked outside and served at tables off the mezzanine. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. They disinfected the table in front of us and stood away from the table whenever possible. We were there the night of the crazy lightening storm and the power went out. The staff was wonderful, handing out cold water and flashlights. I had a stomach issue and the stores were closed, but someone went in the back and gave me a little box of crackers. The staff was excellent. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The location is terrific - adjacent to the convention center and a short walk from the wharf. What a great location and a room with comfortable beds. The only issue we had was trying to find our room because the wall signs didn't have our room number. It's like a mouse in a maze when you don't know which direction to go. The hotel should wake up and go eco-friendly and get rid of the mini shampoo bottles. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the staff wears masks and are behind plexiglass. Overnight parking is $27 but you can park down the street at the public parking building for $7 if you are on a budget. read more

The rooms were very clean and always smelled fresh. The entire staff and employees were all very accommodating and friendly. The rooms were very nice and had a spacious layout. We had two rooms on separate floors and both were nice. The location is in very close walking distance to all amenities including Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf. Crepes by Brittany (Brittanie) is a must try while in the area as well as Cibos Italian, not to mention the plethora of restaurants and shops along the boardwalk area. Absolutely AMAZING running/biking path that runs along the whole coast area. Very safe and comfortable for running long distances alone. The pool was small and lonely- but it is cold here during our stay anyway. The gym was severely lacking appeal but Luckily the outdoor running paths made up for it. read more

Stayed here over the Fourth of July weekend and had a great experience. Some of positives: - Great location. It's walking distance to the wharf and surrounded by shops and restaurants. - The rooms were clean and newly renovated. - Check-in was quick and the staff was friendly. Service requested via the app was also quick and convenient. - Like most hotels, housekeeping is on a request basis only. - The hotel is located right on the Fourth of July parade route, so it's easy to just walk out to watch. Something to think about: - The hotel is not near the Monterey Bay Aquarium/Cannery area. You can probably walk, but it is about a 5-10 minute drive. - Larger vehicles are parked off-site. Also when the hotel is busy, expect a 10-15 minute wait for your car. - As the staff reminded us frequently, the hotel is on the parade route. This means that between 8am to 11am, they won't be able to grab your vehicle. But you can let them know ahead if you need it during that time and they will make arrangements. read more

We normally stay at the Portola Hotel over Thanksgiving, however, this year the Marriott Monterey offered better rates, so we stayed here. I had email confirmations for each of the rooms I booked and dealt with Dale at the front desk when we arrived. He offered us an upgrade at no charge for one of the rooms - a better view - although ironically the room itself was not desirable as there was no closet, no safe and the sink backed up periodically. For only two nights, we took it. The hotel is totally dated, but they are apparently about to remodel so that should change. On our departure, I did not check the bill as I normally do because I wasn't feeling well. Later, when I did review it I saw that at least one of the rooms (no receipt on the other) was overcharged by $91. It took two days to get a response from billing and then I was told there was no proof of the charge I claimed was correct. Since I had the email confirmation of the lower charge I forwarded it to Ronnie in Billing. With the numbers right in front of him he continued to argue about the charge saying that reservation was cancelled. Right! I cancelled one rate in order to spend $91 more instead. I am still waiting to speak to the manager Update - I heard frim the Maas gets and thE $91 was credited to my account. read more

Knowing my wife and I were coming in to celebrate several life events, Emily went well out of her way to guarantee an amazing stay as well as surprising my wife with amenities, a truly lovely room and several personalized treats and gifts. As a lifetime Titanium member, I confess to being occasionally jaded and spoiled but seeing our visit through my wife's eyes, I couldn't have been happier. We stayed two nights at the Marriott Monterey in late December 2022. The valet service checked our car in quickly upon arrival, and brought it around just as quickly when we were checking out. The desk staff we interacted with were very friendly, helpful and efficient. Checkin was pretty easy. As of the last couple of days of 2022 they did not have a concierge on staff, but the nice gentleman who checked us in offered to help us find activities if needed. Our guest room was of decent size, with a king size bed, nice desk area and chaise lounge. It overlooked the street and valet area. The tv worked, as did all of the lights, and the unit was clean. There is no fan in the shower/toilet area, but I think the lack of a fan is pretty standard. The lighted makeup mirror worked well, but we did not try the provided blow dryer. An appropriate amount of bath towels was provided, and we were informed housekeeping is on an as-asked basis (which is standard for most properties). There was a mini fridge in the room which was very handy, and the ice machine was not far down the hall. The location was perfect for us - we were happy to leave the car with the valet service during our stay. We walked to Fisherman's Wharf and the Salvador Dali museum one day, then to Cannery Row and the aquarium on another day, which are about 1.5 mi from the hotel. We also explored old Monterey on foot - there are quite a few restaurants and shops within a 4 block radius, as well as many historical sites and the Monterey Museum of Art, which unfortunately was closed for the holidays. There are some homeless, particularly around the wharf area, but we did not feel they were a threat at all. The hotel has an entire floor full of ballrooms - I imagine it is a popular venue for corporate events. It also has a small pool and spa, which were closed during the time of our stay. The only negatives we can come up with are that its a little noisy - we were on the 7th floor and could clearly hear the activity (people talking) in the driveway/valet area, as well as out in the hallway for a couple of hours during the first night when there was a housekeeping cart parked in front of our room (and people conversing loudly in the hall during that time). We would also suggest to Management it would be nice if there was a binder with information about the onsite restaurant/bar, activities (if there are any), and local attractions. The first night there we decided to try the on-site restaurant - Fin + Field. We had a grumpy server (female, blonde) who seemed in a rush and annoyed with us because we weren't ready to order right away. Sorry lady - it was probably time for your shift to end and you wanted to wrap things up, but it was still several hours before closing. We ended up sharing the fish taco appetizer and she upsold us on chips with guacamole (good job). The fish tacos were pretty boring, but the chips were delicious (you only get about 10 though), and the guacamole was excellent as well. I almost forgot the most impressive part of our stay at the Marriott Monterey: the breakfast buffet was off the hook! They start serving at 0730, and they had of course fresh fruit, cereal, pastries, but also, scrambled eggs, chorizo & hash browns, waffles, the most delicious bacon and sausage, bisuits and gravy (YUM), and made-to-order omelets. I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but trust me - this was one of the better hotel breakfast buffets I have experienced. breakfast staff were amazing - pleasant and efficient. They kept everything stocked and hot, and were uber-nice. We would definitely stay here again, just wouldn't eat in the restaurant (except for the breakfast buffet, of course.) read more

Monterey Marriott is centrally located and close to the Monterey Wharf, cannery row and pebble beach. Service was uniformly excellent. The bellboy suggested we get extra pillows and a microwave sent to our room at no extra charge. A small refrigerator was included. Our package included an excellent breakfast buffet valued at $30 per person. Valet parking is $39 a day but there is close offsite parking. Rosine's restaurant is located a block and a half away and also provides room delivery. I highly recommend getting the minestrone. Best I've ever had with large chunks of meat. Going to the Monterey aquarium is a must as well as driving through the 17 mile drive at Pebble Beach. There is an entrance fee but if you have lunch reservations at Stillwater's restaurant at the Lodge the fee is waved. For a special dinner the Sardine Factory is recommended. If you're too tired to go out the hotel restaurant is convenient and comfortable. The only negative is the hotel doesn't have daily cleaning service. They provide only two paper coffee cups and limited filters. Trash accumulates quickly. You can call and request cleaning service but what a hassle. Should be provided. read more

We stayed here for my birthday celebration since COVID makes it hard for us to fly anywhere. We were so pleased with the accomodations and the level of friendly service that we received from the hotel guests. It is located right in the center of the wharf area with great access to the bike/walking trails and many restaurants. They gave us a wonderful corner room that overlooked Monterey Bay and the shops. The room was recently renovated (as well as the other areas in the hotel lobby) We brought our bicycles and they graciously kept them inside the storage room and took them out whenever we wanted to use them. Parking is valet and costs $23/day. Unfortunately, due to COVID, there is no food service offered at the hotel so you have to walk outside to get any food - plenty of places within a stone's throw of the hotel so that was not a problem for us at all. Gross! When we checked into the room, I opened the shades and saw there was a package of baby wipes on the ground, under the curtain. I thought, oh well, they must have missed that. Then I noticed there were hairpins scattered throughout the room. I'm not picky, so I wasn't fazed. On the first night, we went to the pool and hot tub. The pool was cold, so I went in the hot tub first. After a couple minutes, I noticed it smelled like moldy feet and I started to feel itchy all over. I got out and noticed I had bumps in the chest and back. Went back to the room, showered and told front desk. They sent security to see my rash and asked questions, but they ultimately sent and email that said nothing was wrong with the hot tub. I have no allergies and nothing like this has ever happened to me. When we were getting ready to leave I did the final check to make sure we hadn't left anything and I found a pair of underwear that was left by the previous occupants. Disgusting. If that's what I found, what did I miss or couldn't see? This hotel is a Petri dish of nastiness. You will get diseases if you stay here. read more

There are plenty of places to eat and the pier is within walking distance. There's also a great trail that's along the ocean that lead you all the way to Monterey Bay aquarium. The hotel is pretty pricey and their valet parking is as well at $27 per night. However if you're looking for pure convenience and you are not on a budget, this place is excellent. read more

Repeat visitor. Overall, good to very good experiences. However, most recent visit the air conditioning was not sufficient. The controller was mounted underneath the vent on the wall. I set the temp to 60 degrees. AC came on for a couple minutes at a time then shut off. The area near the vent was cool but the room itself was very warm. I surmise that the thermostat was contained within the controller and read the air coming from the vent right above it. Regardless, the room was warm and sleep was sub par. With the temp set to 60, the room should have been an icebox. Not even close. But, the good included the on site restaurant, the staff, and the location. If I return, I would insist on changing rooms if the AC was insufficient. I would test it on check in. read more

We stayed here for our 10 year anniversary. The front desk staff and valet staff were very friendly and went above and beyond service. We forgot our key card for our tesla, and the valet manager was able to park our car in a single stall, rather than having us park at a public parking garage. This property only has valet. Complimentary waters upon arrival from valet staff and front desk staff, as well as comp waters in the room. Their room was spacious and clean. Water pressure was strong in the shower. Their breakfast buffet was pretty cheap. $30 for 2 adults, or comp for Marriott members. Overall, a great stay. read more

Have stayed here many times in the past and it continues to decline. This past week was the last time I'll stay. The staff was nice, however, they did try to charge me for valet parking on my last night, even though I used the public garage up the street. The main reason I'll avoid going forward is they fact they let guests with dogs stay here. Not sure why Marriott goes that route now, but it literally seemed as if we were staying at a kennel. So many dogs, and the dogs were not quiet. Barking in the lobby, in the hallways at 6 am and having accidents right out in the front guest entrance. Staff literally had to hose away the remnants. I love dogs, in my home, just not when I'm trying to have a quiet, clean experience at a hotel when being charged well over $250 per night. Totally done with this place, and it's too bad. read more

We were able to secure an hotel reservation at the last minute using Marriott hotel points over the AT&T Pro Am golf tournament at Pebble Beach. We stayed Friday & Saturday nights. As such no hotel room upgrade was available as the hotel was 100% capacity. We valet parked our vehicle at $27 per night. Otherwise there's a parking garage offsite where you could park overnight. About two blocks down from the hotel. Not sure how much it was. We were given two breakfast vouchers each day as we're Marriott platinum elite status. This entitled us to the breakfast buffet. Our room was on the 3rd floor. Not renovated yet but still nice. The hotel staff was wonderful. Friendly and efficient. The parking valet was very easy. Call them about 10 minutes prior to going down to the front lobby. Each time our car was ready for us. I'd stay here again as the hotel was in the heart of downtown Monterey and very near to the local attractions. read more

This is a great location to hang out in Monterey. Close and walking distance ( if you like to take a nice stroll) to Fisherman's Wharf and there are also local restaurants nearby. It is also close to some of the historic parks. The front desk staff for both checkin (Emily) and check out ( Jake ) were very kind, friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and I had a decent view. Also, due to covid restrictions call the restaurants directly if they are open cause I found in this area a lot of the hours weren't updated/ incorrect. I actually saw a sign in this area as well about that if you don't wear mask you will be fined. As far as parking I found it best to valet as I believe you pay $27 for 24 hours with in / out privileges compared to city parking lot $1 per hour with no in/out privileges. I would recommend this establishment and stay there again. read more

Yucky! Sorry to say but this hotel was NOT pleasant at all. The maid service took two days to clean our room. Nobody answers the phone when you call the operator. The gym is not open, nor is the gym, jacuzzi or dinning. People working here act as if you should be so happy to have them! Didn't have our room because whom ever occupied the suite would not check out! Give me a break. LIARS. Stay some where else. Also, for people who don't want to sleep where every other room occupies a dog stay some place else. This hotel does not reserve special rooms for animals. They are welcome IN EVERY ROOM. YUCK. I have a dog at home but wouldn't imagine staying in a room that had another persons dog in there. read more

Clean and streamlined. This is a good Marriott site, but keep in mind you are a bit off the Cannery Row madness. I think that's great, but with limited Ubers etc it can be a pain unless you want to take the fun walk downtown. There is plenty right by and a great English pub across the street. The lobby is nice and straight forward. The bar could be bigger, but meets the purpose. The rooms are standard Marriott decent. The downside was the mini sized pool. I looked out twice and even with Covid the guests were stacked on top of each other. Ugh. Other than that a nice choice for the area. read more

This is an awful hotel. A total ripoff. I booked it because I wanted to go in the hot tub, but when I showed up, I found out that it's closed. But I did have a lovely view of the empty pool and hot tub. The sink leaked all over the counter. The room was so dark that I couldn't see to put on makeup. There is no reason whatsoever to stay near ugly downtown Monterey. Why not stay somewhere beautiful like Carmel? Yuck all around. So much money for absolutely nothing. read more

Marriott's never disappoint and neither did this one here in Monterey. It was a very busy weekend because it was the first opening since Covid and it was also spring break. The hotel handled the crowds flawlessly. The new general manager, Stefan seemed to be everywhere at all times starting from early in the morning until late into the night. Every time I turned around he was making sure everyone in valet, morning breakfast, check-in etc. were taken care of and no one was left standing or waiting. My only complaint, which is not the hotels fault, was our room was above the pool with all the little pool demons but it was spring break and children are a part of this hotel experience. read more

3.5 Stars, honestly. This is a nice central location but not really within walking distance of the aquarium FYI. That wasn't a problem for us. This place is very clean. Very well kept. Staff is accommodating. The beds are comfortable and if you need good pillows like me it was great. The only complaint was the ac it seemed to turn the heater on in the early morning and I woke up hot. I had the windows open but it got too noisy from the road outside. They couldn't valet my truck so I had to self park a couple blocks away. No parking close to hotel. I honestly thought it was very expensive for what it was. A Monday night 300 bucks?! I get it's Monterey but dang. If it wasn't as clean and comfortable as it was I'd be upset. It's not like it's on the beach or you can even see the beach. It's near downtown bars pubs restaurants. I'd probably stay somewhere right on the ocean next trip to Monterey. read more
