Absolutely horrible experience at this overpriced and mismanaged property. Everything from check-in to check-out was weird and unpleasant, which makes sense after meeting the "manager" who couldn't be less interested in guest feedback. The heating/cooling system wasn't working, our room was entered without permission while we were away, the complimentary cookies were stale and inedible, the bar wasn't open because the bartender was late, the complimentary bikes weren't available, our breakfast order was wrong, there was no shuttle service, my husband had several insect bites on his legs from lord knows what, on and on and on. No limited views of the water are worth these room rates. There are too many other choices in Carmel to ever risk staying here again. read more

Amazing room! We were overlooking the ocean & the room also had a 270 degree circular atrium! Made you want to just lounge in there & have everything brought to you. Lovely neighborhood & grounds, so close to the beach. Very clean with lovely amenities including an elaborate snack tray & champagne for our anniversary. Staff is friendly & helpful. We have stayed in many inns, b&bs & hotels in the Carmel area over the years. This one is a keeper. We will be back in the fall for our birthdays. read more

I wanted to love this place so bad. We booked the "ocean front room" for my birthday celebration and I was disappointed. They tried to be nice but the amount you pay for the room does not live up to the hype. There was no birthday welcome or small celebration in the room. Very outdated rooms and minimal ocean view. Little to no amenities and the car service was always busy. There's minimal food service and the small bar available closes early and provides no complimentary drinks on arrival. I wanted this place to blow my expectations for Carmel but the only plus was the proximity to the beach in walking distance. There are also restaurants several blocks away we ended up walking to after waiting for the "car service". Very disappointed and sadly I would not recommended. The area is spot on and very quiet, safe, and relaxing but I wouldn't recommend this hotel. Very overpriced for what you get. read more

The staff was rude. The free shuttle service was not working that night. The bar was not open that night. Someone entered our room when we went out for dinner. We did not agree to that. We were not asked how our stay was because the staff could have cared less. I specifically asked for a room with a stand alone tub. We did not get that. We strayed from our usual hotel to try this place. They accommodated early check-in which was appreciated. We did find the staff to be generally pretty aloof, with the exception of the gentleman who helped us get set up with the bikes that they have for guest use. We were disappointed to learn that the staff overlooked offering us welcome cocktails and popcorn upon our arrival. Didn't know this was a thing here until we were in the lobby and saw others checking in being given welcome drinks and snacks. They do offer complimentary glass bottles of water in the room and have spa water available in the lobby so that was great. We had breakfast in the room - food was good, but the kitchen needs to do better at anticipating guest needs and supply the tray with options for sweeteners as well as provide ample cream for a full carafe of coffee. We had to call down after delivery and request needed items both mornings. We opted to dine elsewhere the third morning to avoid the hassle we experienced on previous days. The room was decent but didn't feel luxurious. It appears that the hotel was recently renovated and the bathroom was rather nice and had a good layout. We had a beautiful view of the ocean that could be enjoyed from the bathroom, bed, or balcony. The beds were extremely comfortable and it was quiet each night. If you are looking for luxury and well executed service and amenities, this is probably not the place. It was quaint, conveniently located, and comfortable. The inconsistencies in service and minor issues with the condition of the facilities are what made the experience less than I would have expected. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in one of our most favorite towns. read more

My husband and I planned a rare weekend away and chose Carmel Beach Hotel because it looked lovely. It was - the property is charming, rooms are nicely renovated, 1 min walk to the beach, you wake up to the sound of the waves. The quaint little bar and utterly charming bartender Lucy were wonderful. She took care of us, busing snacks out, making drinks that looked like art, and genuinely friendly. However, the front of house staff acted like we were a gross inconvenience to them. Valerie and her colleague who was front of house on Sat Mar 21 were unhelpful, dismissive and need a course correction if they have any intention of staying in hospitality. As it stands, Lucy should be running the place. We would only come back if we read reviews that this had been fixed. read more

The room (second floor with a balcony/view) was a partial view of the ocean because there were houses in front but I love the sound of the birds and waves from our room. Underwhelming & Overpriced - Not 'Pet Friendly' We booked Carmel Beach Hotel because it was listed as pet friendly and looked great. Unfortunately, that description is totally misleading. They charged me $273 for my dog ($250 pet fee + tax on the pet fee) with zero amenities or effort to make us feel welcome. No water bowl, treats, or pet-friendly vibe--just a HUGE extra charge. I wasn't aware of the fee when booking, and when I was informed and wanted to cancel, the manager said we'd still be charged for one of our two nights. Not great customer service. The room was spacious and had a soaking tub, but the water pressure was low, the carpet was dingy, and the noise level was unacceptable--you can hear everything: conversations, all the rolling suitcases over the bricks, even raccoons fighting outside over the garbage. Room 6 is especially bad since it's right above housekeeping/maintenance. Also, the window coverings don't block light, so expect an early wake-up call from the sun. The property is nice enough, but the "lawn" is fake plastic turf. The beach is close, but if you want to walk to town, it's 15-20 minutes in the dark--no sidewalks or streetlights. They did offer a car service until 9:45PM. Bottom line: it's not pet-friendly, not welcoming and relaxing, and definitely not worth the price. There are much nicer hotels in Carmel at this price point. Would NOT stay again. read more

After staying at this location for ten years (Colonial Terrace prior to 2020) now the Carmel Beach Hotel we will go somewhere else for our frequent stays. Why? it needs better management! you definitely feel the guest does not come first. There are limited TV options, you now pay for breakfast which used to be included, our room wasn't made up until we called at 4 pm. When she came she complained she just had too much to do. The "car service" which dropped us up on Dolores and Ocean for dinner gave us a number to call for our return but was a hotel number which did not answer. After 10 minutes we walked home. Finally the next day after we checked out they called us and accused us of taking a $75 bottle of shower wash ( we never showered there and never saw the bottle) . I assured them that in 70 years of traveling we had never taken anything belonging to any hotel. If this sounds like somewhere you want to stay. Be prepared. We plan to go elsewhere. read more

Unsympathetic management staff (front desk staff was fine, nice young ladies). The night before I was coming to stay here for my birthday, my transmission went went out on my car on my way home from work. Took 3 hours to get home. I told them all this, understanding they might not refund me, they have a TEN day advance cancelation policy! So, i requested to maybe reschedule. No, they wouldn't even let me speak to management. Only the front desk staff. No credit, no chance to reschedule and pay any increase change in price fee. Nothing. Just more than $600 dollars gone. I offered to show them documents from my mechanic etc. Nope nothing. I wish I had been given a chance reschedule, seemed like it would have been relaxing. read more

Wow....this is quite the little gem. This hotel is absolutely wonderful and the staff are incredibly pleasant. The hotel is nestled in a beautiful quiet neighborhood with a 5 min walk down to the beach and 15 minute walk to downtown Carmel. Our room was a small suite with a lot of space, tons of natural sunlight and we lucked out facing the ocean. We were greeted with mango iced tea beverages upon arrival/check-in and received help taking our luggage to the room. We drove up from Redondo Beach and so we were ready for snacks and wine and the staff delivered! The iced tea was a perfect touch after a long drive and then we had shrimp cocktail and charred avocado guacamole that was so, so good. We had a glass of Pinot to finish up and it was delightful. Another huge bonus is they have a dedicated Mercedes for the hotel and we were driven to and from dinner. What more could you ask for?? The staff were so sweet and helpful and this experience couldn't be done without them. Thank you so much! We would ABSOLUTELY stay here again. read more

Fruit water and a different snack each day in the small bar, a fire pit with chairs outside for an extra touch and if you don't want to walk downtown there's a driver and car service you can book at the front desk . Good thing is we check out tomorrow. No access to any of the major tv networks (NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox). No college football available. Very well appointed rooms with absolutely horrible service. Great hotel, but do NOT book through Expedia. Expedia lists the property as a pay-when-you-stay, but then they still charge you beforehand. This has happened to me twice with this hotel (Expedia has the wrong type of payment method listed for many hotels, not just this one). Better to book direct. The rooms are nice and new. We would have appreciated a refund for the night we had to cancel to attend the funeral, or at least one free night upon return at another date. Amazing property with super easy access to the beach (literally 100 steps) and to downtown Carmel (just a few blocks). The room was cozy and beautifully designed. The hotel hasn't even been open for a year so everything is new and beautifully decorated. Love that breakfast is included (and it's actually really good). There is a cute little bar in the lobby where you can grab a beer, glass of wine or a cocktail and hang out on your deck or by the fire pit and enjoy the stunning sunsets and ocean views. One of the best features of the hotel is the complimentary Mercedes S Class car service that will drop you off and pick you up from shopping or dinner downtown. Super convenient especially if you want to go wine tasting responsibly. The hotel staff are extremely friendly and accommodating and made the stay extra special! For $750, you are definitely paying for the location...steps from Carmel beach. Otherwise, the rooms are nice and new but average, and this place is just not worth it. The water pressure is so awful, you end up taking a 45 minute shower just to get clean. The restaurant isn't a true restaurant...you have to fill out a paper form to order a meal for the next day, which seems a little strange and completely home-grown. And the "bar" is a small bar 5 ft. away from the check in desk...we had two drinks (a Manhattan and a glass of wine) for $60. So again, can't beat the location, but otherwise overpriced and underwhelming. You can pay half as much a few blocks further up from the beach for a much better experience. read more

Finally, a NEW and FULLY REFURBISHED hotel in Carmel-by-the-Sea! Opened in 2023, the Carmel Beach Hotel took the place of old Colonial Terrace Inn. While the new rooms are beautiful, the location is what makes this hotel superior to others as it is just one short block away from Carmel beach. The hotel itself spans a full block on 13th Avenue between San Antonio and Carmelo, right in the heart of Carmel-by-the-Sea's prime residential neighborhood known as the Golden Rectangle. They even have a small food outlet, called Secoya, that serves snacks exclusively for hotel guests (the public is not allowed to eat at Secoya, we were told, it is only for hotel guests). A great place to stay if you are looking to be in a residential neighborhood near the beach and away from the busier Ocean Avenue part of town. read more

Came here for a little romantic get away and booked spa appointments for the one day we were going to be there. The spa calls me 40 minutes before our scheduled spa appointments and they tell me the masseuse called in sick that morning. They will call me back to tell me if they can find a replacement for our originally scheduled appointments or if we need to push later that afternoon. They call back and tell me they not only can't keep the original time but need to cancel the appointment all together. 1. We planned around the appointments 2. Where has Carmel been all my life? The Carmel Beach Hotel is incredibly quaint and clean. We enjoyed their delicious breakfast, heavenly cookies, and teas. Exploring the town on their seaside bikes was fantastic. It's a perfect 10 out of 10 experience, and my husband and I have made it a goal to visit 3 to 4 times a year because we're absolutely enamored. Additionally, the staff is incredibly helpful and nice. They even shared insights about why the homes don't have numbers, and how at night, there's no public light to prevent light pollution. read more

It's not often that I am sad to leave a hotel, but this place is truly special. From plush, comfortable bedding, to the delicious (included!!) breakfast, to incredible service, immaculately kept grounds/property.... I have no notes. This place exceeded my expectations! Location is pristine as well, just steps from a gorgeous white sand beach, nestled in the coziest neighborhood and about 5 min drive to downtown Carmel-by-the-sea. Oh! Really disappointing lack of professionalism by hotel staff. We selected this hotel for our guests at Pro-Am weekend mostly because of its spa availability, which the hotel confirmed weeks in advance. The day before the appointments, the hotel let me know that they, in fact, never had the providers scheduled for our guests. And, the staff did absolutely nothing to remediate this failure - even worse, the staff turtled and stopped returning calls, pretending as if there was no issue. There are much better, and much better run hotels, in Carmel by the Sea. read more

This hotel is Carmel perfection. The rooms are lovely and updated. The room with a deck has just enough view that we could see whales spouting. The staff was very attentive and helpful with enthusiasm. The car service was helpful for getting to dinner and back. It's one block from the scenic path and beach which draws you out to it.
