I have stayed here numerous times once every year for a number of years in a row with my mom. We have gone as a mother daughter get away for the weekend. We tried a number of different inns in Carmel and this was definitely our favorite so we quit even trying any others. We just started going to this one and only this one. They always had wonderful breakfasts and just the cozy atmosphere and the location is great for walking to the beach; and into town is a little farther but we loved walking all around and looking at the beautiful homes! And we always we also walked all along the ocean walkway! It's only two blocks from the inn. I wish I could keep going the with my mom ; but she is 97 years old now and in a wheelchair. I hope to be going soon with a friend instead! read more

This is one of the very first bed and breakfast places of Carmel-by-the-Sea. The house is very old but the decor has an unbelievably young and whimsical look that you would never think it. The staff is so friendly too! They will sit and chat with you about the latest places to go frequent. The breakfast is so good and the wine and cheese in the afternoon is something to look forward to each day. I like that they have tea service available throughout your visit. A charming, quaint bed and breakfast in Carmel. We stayed at the smaller room (Room #4) with the private bathroom. Though after checking out the public bathroom (refer to the pics I posted), I wouldn't mind having to share that with occupants of one other room. We did street parking which was right in front of the property. The cutest beach was in walking distance but not visible from the window in the room. The staff was welcoming and friendly. The guests shared tips about nearby to-do's over complimentary wine in the living room. I recall having a cup of the afternoon tea to warm me up after spending the day out and about Carmel. It's such a lovely town. So while you're there you ought to stay in an equally lovely bed and breakfast, shouldn't you? read more

Sea View Inn is a really nice place for couples who want to get away and spend quiet time together. My wife and I just celebrated our anniversary here and the Inn and all that Carmel had to offer made it the perfect get away. The Inn is cozy and charming. The staff are friendly. The rooms (and we peeked into most before they were occupied) are beautifully decorated. Some have very sizable bathrooms and others have no baths for those willing to share a public bathroom. Wifi is free and it works very well. There is no TV which I like... as I consider TV to be a distraction to relationships. The Inn is about 1/2 mile from Carmel Beach and nearly a mile from the heart of the shopping area. I like where it's located as we were removed from car and foot traffic and found parking to be very convenient. The neighborhood is really nice for morning and early evening walks... though too dark to walk at night. My one disappointment was the breakfast. I felt a lot more effort should have go into this to make our stay exceptional and invite us to return. We had what appeared to be store-bought pastries, soft boiled egg in the shell (hard by the time we ate it), a small bowl of mixed fruit to share, a small bowl of plain yogurt to share, not very appealing coffee, and funky tasting orange juice from concentrate. We've been to other B&B's that have set a higher bar in providing great breakfasts and evening wine and cheese/meat platters. read more

This inn was so lovely, just private and quiet enough to celebrate our 30th anniversary. Room 7 was just as the website advertised, very cozy and comfortable. Great private bathroom with great shower. Inn is in a very quiet neighborhood, just a few blocks from the ocean and a few more blocks to the main downtown. Sea View Inn is a beautiful, charming home in a residential neighborhood in Carmel. It's about a .5 mile walk to town, but the area seems to be extremely safe so walking back at night wasn't any trouble. The inn itself is immaculate - everything was clean and bright and comfortable. We stayed in room #1, which is probably one of the smallest rooms on the very top floor. It shares a bathroom with room #2, but that wasn't any issue at all. The room was very small (but really cozy!) and it even had a sink so you don't have to go to the shared restroom for everything. The bed and pillows were SO comfortable and everything was spotless. We got a great rate on booking.com and I was surprised at how nice the inn was, considering the price! We did not eat breakfast at the inn, but it looked and smelled really delicious. Margo is such a sweetheart and she makes you feel like you're staying at your grandmother's house. All in all, it was a wonderful stay and I would definitely go back!! read more

Had a horrible experience. Wild parties raging until past 1 AM on both sides of the street. No one was there to handle the situation since the office closes at 11 PM. We called the cops and finally collected our things and drove home to San Diego at 1:15 AM. I felt sorry for the guests in the other rooms that had nowhere to go. I spoke with the manager the next day and he was not sympathetic AT ALL. He claims they never have out of control parties and that we should have complained BEFORE 11 PM, which is stupid because a party before 11 isn't a problem! Our booking agency tried to get us a refund - no luck. Also the room was tiny with no chair or luggage rack. read more

I was shocked to find this gem hidden in a residential area. We pulled up to a beautiful building that was once a big home and transformed into a quaint bed and breakfast. My husband and I walked in and were greeted by Tracy who was the sweetest hostess! She was warm and inviting and extremely helpful in giving us a map and quick overview of Carmel. She showed us to our gorgeous room (with a brand new bathroom!) and invited us to complimentary wine time. They served wine every afternoon for all the guests which was so cute. Our bedroom was spacious and comfortable and as Tracy pointed out had incredible natural lighting flowing into the bedroom from the windows facing the street (and ocean). Bathroom was newly remodeled with a huge sink and beautiful rain shower and heated tiles. The inn is literally a minute's walk from the ocean, so we had a couple morning runs by the beach. So close in fact that we could hear the ocean at night when we were going to bed. Wake up and breakfast! Downstairs they laid out cereals, fruits, yogurts, boiled eggs, pastries, coffee, tea and orange juice. They also had hot croissants and the 2nd morning provided quiches. The staff is SO sweet. I can't even put into words how thrilled and satisfied we were with the experience at sea view inn. Helps that Carmel is such a great place. We will definitely come back. read more

To celebrate our first anniversary, the wife and I drove down to Carmel for the weekend. Having had good experiences with B&Bs in the past, we elected to give Sea View Inn a shot. Boy were we glad that we did! We stayed in #8, the yellow room. The room was charming, clean and comfy. The only drawback was that the bathroom was across the hall, but whatever. The kitchen and living room on the main floor were very pleasant and we enjoyed chatting with other visitors. Breakfast was solid and I left totally satisfied. We were a short walk from the main drag and could always find parking. Next time we go to Carmel, I'd love to come back here (but this time with a connected bathroom). read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Sea View Inn this past weekend and really loved it! It's such a cozy and great place to stay, close enough to town to walk there easily, but closer to the beach which we preferred. The two women who work at the Sea View Inn are both really lovely and make you feel extremely welcome. I loved the afternoon tea and cookies where I sat and read my book in the living room while waiting for my boyfriend to finish surfing. Even better than the tea and cookies is the wine and cheese they provide every evening. It's the perfect way to watch the sunset on the porch and the pours are VERY generous :) We stayed in Room 8 with a private bathroom across the hall. I thought going across the hall to use the bathroom would bother me but I didn't end up minding at all. I never ran into any of the other guests going back and forth from our room to the bathroom. Also, the bathroom for room 8 has recently been renovated and is GORGEOUS! It has heated tile floors and a huge shower head. We can't wait to make this a yearly tradition! read more

We had the pleasure of staying at the Sea View for 3 days. What a lovely place. A beautiful old home with classic details, located just a short walk away from downtown Carmel. The rooms are lovely, with built in window seats, and comfortable beds. The best thing about the Sea View however is the staff. Tracy made us feel so welcome, answering all of our questions and taking time from her busy day to chat with us. Mary, who worked nights hooked us up with reservations for dinner and brunch at a minutes notice. The entire staff was welcoming and couldn't have been any nicer. Comfortable and inviting, the Sea View hosts guests from all over the globe and does so in a wonderful and winning way. We will definitely be returning. read more

Our stay at the Sea View Inn was fantastic. My wife and I stayed here on our Babymoon in September 2014. This place is a very charming bed and breakfast. This place is located in the quaint residential area a few blocks off Ocean Ave in Carmel. The exterior has a very charming feel and the early 1900s architecture is beautiful. The ground floor has a front porch for relaxing, a front room for lounging/reading by the fireplace, and a garden and seating area out back. The main floor also doubles as the breakfast area in the mornings. The breakfast was fabulous - fresh fruits, juices, organic coffee, yogurts, croissants, cereal, eggs and baked-to-order quiche. My wife and I stayed on the 3rd floor in a cozy room with a slanted ceiling, view of the back garden, and a shared bathroom. The bed and pillows were very comfy. We had the bathroom to ourselves since the adjacent room was unoccupied during our stay. The bathroom was amazing - spacious glassed shower with rainfall spout and really good water pressure. The rooms on the 3rd floor are a bit tight due to the slanted ceiling, but I expected it based on the photos. The staff is very friendly and attentive. They also offer a complimentary wine happy hour that we took advantage of before walking to dinner in Carmel. read more

This is a quaint home tucked into a quiet neighborhood a short walk from town and the beach. You can't quite see the sea but if you're on the sea side of the house you can sure hear the surf at night crashing on the beach. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Everything about this place is perfect. Immediately when you walk you feel like you are at home with the welcoming decor. Everyone we encountered during our stay was extremely friendly (both staff and other guests). The rooms are decorated to different themes and very comfortable. My boyfriend and I stayed in room #4 at the top and didn't want to leave! You can see the ocean from the window and hear the waves crashing! Bathroom was recently remodeled and was done exquisitely. Breakfast is more than you could imagine. Fresh fruit, hot coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, an array of yogurt and cereals, plus during our stay we were offered homemade quiches from a local French bakery as well. Delicious! There is also a "happy hour" where they serve complimentary glasses of wine which is always a nice touch (and a great treat as you sit on the porch admiring all the adorable houses before heading into the village for dinner). The location of the Sea View Inn is superb. It is nestled in the heart of the fairy-tale like neighborhood that is the epitome of Carmel. The beach is approx. 2 blocks away and the village is about a 10 minute walk. Staying at Sea View Inn definitely enhanced the already magical trip to Carmel. Me and my husband stayed here after our wedding recently and were so pleased and thankful that we found the Sea View Inn. We stayed in Room 9 that was on the second floor in the front of the house with gorgeous windows, a super comfortable bed, plenty of space (including big closet) and a private large bathroom. I have never stayed at a B&B before and honestly didn't know what to expect. As soon as we pulled up to check in we were impressed. The house was gorgeous and so adorable! The living room and dining room is open all day until 10pm and they had plenty of games and seating to just sit back and relax and to mingle with others that were staying there. They provided had afternoon tea and cookies, evening wine and cheese and breakfast every morning. The B&B is located just a few blocks from the beach and the gorgeous senic view drive which we walked and watched the sunset from. The owner, owner's daughter, manager and staff were so accomodating and friendly. They personally sat down with us and mapped out everything for us to do in the area and gave great suggestions on where to eat, when to take what drives (like big sur and 17 mile) and went out of their way to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. We met guests who have been coming to the Inn for years and keep coming back time after time. Everyone we met truly enjoyed their stay and were impressed by the Sea View Inn. This place is A#1. My wife and I have just recently started to stay at few B&B's while traveling, so I'm starting to get a basis of comparison, and the Sea View Inn is the best we've stayed at. In fact, the experience was so positive that it inspired me to sign up at Yelp, and write this, my first review. First and foremost, the staff made the experience perfect. I'm usually a little shy and uncomfortable asking for services or whatnot from hotel/B&B/restaurant owners and staff, but the folks here had just the right attitude such that it never felt that any request was a bother at all. They seemed very natural in making our stay comfortable; it was clear that they were not just doing a job, but that they really enjoyed having us as guest. At least that's how it felt. Secondly, the location was excellent, just a very short walk from a very nice beach. The Inn provides beach chairs and towels to take down to the beach, which is great so you don't have to bring them from home. We stayed in Room 4, which is one of the two cheapest rooms with a private bath. The room was nicer then it looks on the website, still not luxurious, smallish but it's just not an issue. And for the price, when you take into account all the other benefits of the Inn, I don't think you'd find a better stay in Carmel. The room did have a window with a peak-a-boo view of the ocean, but more importantly, we could hear the ocean while we slept with the window open. Just a couple of things to be aware of: the room only has a shower, no tub. The stairwell to the 3rd floor rooms (including this room) is narrow and steep. Again, not something that detracted from the stay at all, but just something to be aware of if you have a hard time with stairs or a very large or heavy suitcase. The general upkeep of the Inn was excellent...it's an old house...but it is not rundown at all. Like other reviewers have mentioned, we met some guests who have been coming back to the Sea View Inn year after year. These guests had been coming every year for 25+ years! Lastly, breakfast was a lighter, simple breakfast, which I found perfect. If you have any special requests the staff was more than happy to accommodate. My only, minor criticism was that the weekend breakfast wasn't served until 9, which is a tad late for me...again, not really a problem, just something to be aware of. We stayed here on our wedding night and came back the next year for our anniversary. Had our son the next year and we've missed going back. We wanted to try to get a room for one night this year, but they can only do two night minimums during weekends this June. :*( We stayed in room 7 (private bath) the first year and 2 (shared bath with room 1) the next. The staff is extremely friendly and gave great restaurant recommendations. We'd met a few regulars, who are regulars because they like the Sea View Inn. They had a wonderful breakfast and evening wine service. Yes the walls may be thin at some of these B&Bs, but it sounds like some other reviewers are looking for more of a hotel type of experience than a B&B. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. One day we'll get back to you for a weekend Sea View Inn! read more

Got in late on a rainy Saturday evening and wasn't sure what to expect. The hostess of the house welcomed us warmingly and had some hot tea made immediately. Brought our stuff in and noticed a few folks gathered around the fireplace in the common room. The place looks small from the outside, but the way house is set up, every usable inch of space makes for very comfortable accommodations. The décor is elegantly casual and the atmosphere is charming yet not overdone. You feel like you can relax and "put your feet up and let your hair down" without offending anyone. The other guests who were staying there seemed typical according to one woman. Everyone was very social and we enjoyed meeting and discovering others from diverse regions of the country. Quick stroll the next morning and we discovered the ocean was only a 3 or 4 block walk. Made our trip to Carmel a memorable one! read more

The workers were so pleasant and kind, there were complimentary cheeses and wines to enjoy in the evening, a fantastic breakfast to wake up to, the environment was very cozy, clean, and romantic, it was a relaxing and short walk to the beach, and all the other guests we met were so nice and fun to talk to. We had one of the rooms where it shared a bathroom with one other room, and even though I was a bit hesitant, it ended up being totally fine, especially because our room had a sink or its own. I found the Sea View 30 years ago and have loved it ever since. After almost 20 years away I remembered it and we stayed for our honeymoon. That's how good an impression it left me after my first visit. Warm and inviting, staying is like visiting friends and family. Walking distance to the beach to get our dog fix in the mornings and evenings, walking and finding wonderful little bistros and art galleries to visit. My girlfriend and I totally enjoyed our two night visit this past week. The room we stayed in was room #9 which was facing the front of the B & B and it was so nice in that we could hear the crash of the ocean which helped us sleep nicely. The Innkeepers were very nice and helpful in making suggestions for places to eat and see. Our breakfasts were good in that they consisted of a hard boiled egg, differing choices of cold cereal, organic milk, fresh fruit and freshly made wonderful breads (chocolate chip and lemon on one day and on the other day, it was a Cinnamon type walnut bread that was fantastic. You could also get a toasted bread (regular bread, English muffin or bagel). We also had coffee, tea and orange juice. For the evenings, there was wine and a small plate of cheese. The room was very cute and clean and the bathroom was cool with an old fashioned tub that also had a shower. We will definitely be back to this place as our overall experience was really wonderful. read more

We very much enjoyed our stay here. We were in two different rooms due to our last minute lack of planning. Both rooms were lovely and spacious. We really enjoyed the fireplaces and the beds were quite comfortable. I am not a fan of soap/shampoo in multiple use dispensers so this feature did not delight me- but I would still stay here again. We were able to hit a store for conditioner so it wasn't much of an issue. The breakfast was quite satisfying and delivered promptly. The in-room snacks were a nice surprise as well read more

This is a cute place, but not up to the usual "Carmel Inn" standards. It is great that it is on a quiet street and so near the ocean. However, it does not offer the amenities you usually get in an inn. In addition, the room on the top floor is very hard to get up to if you are a senior. read more

I would give this B&B five stars except I feel --like the other reviewer--that they could offer better wine and a higher quality of breakfast. The location is superb and the Inn is remodeled and kept up beautifully. Why not keep the food and complimentary wine in par with the perfect service and setting? Charming B and B on a quiet residential street of Carmel within flat shoes walking of restaurants and wine rooms. Stayed in #7, a four poster bed, small sitting area and plenty of morning sun on the second floor of this old, Carmel by the Sea residence. Don't get me wrong...charmingly remodeled in cottage flavor with the most inviting breakfast and living room area. Spent the evening falling asleep with a book in front of the fireplace before bedtime in the living room. A friendly greeting at the first step through the front door by Diane and a cheery offer of hot coffee the next morning by Margo at breakfast makes me add Sea View Inn to my list of repeat lodging when we return to Carmel. read more
