    white rice and plantain

Nigerian here! I love trying new Nigerian restaurants so when I drove past Lagos Buka I knew I had to try it. I walked in and ordered. The food is served ala carte, with no wait as the food is already prepared. I appreciate this structure because many Nigerian restaurants I've been to feature a very long wait. In all fairness, I recognize not everyone will love the food being prepared, but in my opinion, the quality does not suffer from it. I paid nearly $49 and ordered Afang soup (not pictured) which came with a free swallow. I also ordered Iya's Desire (I'd never had anything like this before and wanted to try it) it came with white rice and I asked for plantain. Finally I ordered assorted meat stew-- for which I was charged double for wanting tripe and tendon. I thought it didn't make much sense but I still paid for it. The portion sizes were not bad, however the stews/ soups have a lot of oil but that tends to be the nature of Nigerian food. I loved everything I ate from here. I would recommend, and I would come back if I am in this area again.

Having never had Nigerian before, Tenyi M. was amazing about explaining each dish and its flavor profile. Before offering samples, she asked about any food allergies and what I liked. Everything I sampled was full of flavor but I decided on the Asun (spicy / peppered goat), Smokey Jollof Rice, and Zobo (hibiscus drink) . All items are à la carte. So glad I stepped out of my comfort zone today and tried the Nigerian / Naija cusine. Support local businesses like Lagos Buka!! 4031 FM 1463 #80, Katy, TX 77494 281-394-5244 lagosbuka.com

I came around 5pm and the selection of food was not good. I ordered Jollof rice and fried rice with assorted meat and goat meat. The meat I was given (goat) was all bones and the server even said it wasn't a good day. None of my food was hot or warm so I'm confused as to if I dined in would my food have been fresh or microwaved for me. Out of all the food I received the assorted meat was good in taste and so was the jollof rice. I could tell the fried rice was old and not made fresh at all. I did enjoy the taste of those 2 things but I had to go home and warm it to eat it because I attempt to eat it in my truck as soon as I got it.

I'm giving a 3 star because why in the world are you guys serving food that is not even warm. Serving food that is barley room temperature is wild to me. Everything is like buffet style so when you order you just pick from what is already there. I ordered asun which is spicy goat meat and it was flavorful and spicy, egusi soup was good too and I added tripe " they charge everything separately . The service also could have been better but I looked passed that part my only concern is the freshness of the food , if I wanted to eat my food there are you guys giving me cold food as well ? I seen other reviews say the same thing maybe you guys should work on getting better heat lamps .

To be fair I went here before and the food was better. I ordered Ayamase, Iya Desire Sauce, fried rice, with beef because that's all of the protein that was available at the time. These people charged me $77. It is insane the cost of food for lunch for two people. Food was cold and quality was worse than the time I was here last time. I hope they read this and realize that this is unacceptable. How do you buy designer stew for $12.49 and still pay for white rice $6.49? You call something Iya Desire sauce and charge someone $18.99 plus $6.49 for white rice again. If I went next door to the Vietnamese restaurant I could order 5 dishes and will not spend $77. If I go to Wazobia and the same rice you are charging $6.49, I'll get it for $1.50. How much is a bag of Rice self.

I ordered the egusi soup & okra soup with yam fufu and corn fufu. Very very flavorful! The egusi soup with yam fufu was my favorite. However, when I left the soups sitting out for my partner to try after coming home from work, they both somehow became a bit salty? And he wasn't able to enjoy it like how I did when it was fresh. There's not a lot of African restaurants in Cypress, but this place is definitely worth a try. Still can't get over the texture of fufu! It's so pleasant with the soups.

I can't believe I waited so long to try the GOLDEN BOWL. This is one of the best bites to enter my mouth in a long time. ChopnBlok is nestled away inside of POST Houston. Their menu is quaint, and in fact, the famous Golden Bowl was not visible on the menu. Fortunately, the had a few signature dishes on display - the Golden Bowl was one of them. The Golden Bowl is one of the most complex and well balanced dishes I've ever had. Sweet, salty, smoky, spicy, and soulful, this dish is an explosion for flavors that will have your tongue tingling. The succulent grilled chicken, fluffy jollof jambalaya, stewed plantain and crunchy black eyed peas work together to create an unbelievable mix of textures that keep you excited for the next bite... and the next... and then suddenly it's gone. My only regret was sharing the bowl with my husband. I could probably eat two orders in one sitting. If you haven't had a Golden Bowl, please do your tastebuds a favor and get yourself over to ChopnBlok.

We decided to go after church service. This place right next to an African food store. When we walked it the place was very intimate and had the really gooood Afro beats playing on the big screen TVs. IB the waitress/ hostess greeted us and allowed us to pick Our seats. My advice: Don't look at menus, but ask IB instead. It pretty much worked like this: We: 1. Picked our rice (plantains are included as a side) 2. Pick meat (goat, fish, chicken, or beef) 3. Order the moi moi (a must have if you are new to Nigerian Cuisine) The menu had a wide variety of soups and stews, but I'm not much of a menu reader. I usually go with what the waitress or waiter recommends. I had the Jallof rice with plantains, goat, and moi moi. Now, I am an American that knows and loves spicy food. THIS Nigerian food is perfection.... Not too spicy as some Nigerian restaurants can be. The best thing is, if you want it spicy, the chef will bring it to the back and add the spices to your liking. I had the pleasure of speaking with the Chef. Her name is Auntie Christy. She recommended (for people that are really looking for a taste of Nigeria) : Fisherman's soup! She said that it has a lot of ingredients from the Motherland and is one of her most exquisite dishes. I brought some home to my husband and he LOVED IT! as did me and Our children She did NOT disappoint! I also had the pleasure of speaking with the Owner whose name is Marvin and he mentioned how good The Egusi and Ogbono soups are when mixed together. I will be sure to try that next time we go! Did I mention that I brought my elders who are from Nigeria (Edo State) and they said that the food "Tastes like HOME". This is the place to go if you are looking for an Authentic taste of Nigerian Cuisine!

I saw that they had a lot of good reviews on Google so I figured I'd try them out. And I am so happy I did. I ordered some egusi stew with mixed meats (which does not include pork - Thank God). And I had it with pounded yam. It cost about $19 I think, which when ordering I thought was a bit much, but I was still anxious to try them out. When they brought the food, I then saw why the price was what it was. They brought 3 containers (1 for the egusi, 1 for the meats and 1 for the pounded yam). It was A LOT of food! So $19 actually wasn't bad. And what's more is it ended up being enough food for about 3 meals!!! Anyway, the taste was phenomenal!!! It was sooooo good that I've been bragging about this place ever since! The restaurant itself is very beautifully and tastefully laid out. The service was great! Once you order, you are able to get a text message when your food is ready. Which I really liked because I wanted to check out the other stores next to it while waiting. The meat with sauce was really delightfully salty and complemented the neutral fufu. Much of the meat is collagen so I'm not sure if I would get it again though. The egusi was right in the middle in terms of spice and flavor and also very beginner friendly! This thing can feed like 3 people because fufu is so filling. For the appetizer we also tried a beef pie! Pretty good, nothing super outstanding but I liked it :) Ola our server was happy to tell us all our options and even gave us free Nigerian bread with Nigerian butter on the house! I'm not sure what was different about it but it smelled very sweet and had the similar texture to milk bread. Also being two Asian females apparently attracted some attention because gentlemen from a different table tried to pay for our drinks and they were very curious where we were from. This has no bearing on the establishment I just wanted to mention it cuz it was so startling. No worries though because we gracefully (?) fended off their advancements. Definitely felt welcomed here though haha.
