This is one of those neighbor places I think about going to, but usually don't due to the crowds. That section of Clark Street is always nuts and me trying to deal with that is a no go. They do have reservations on OpenTable but only for parties of 6 and above, so the rest of us have to suffer and wait in line.
But on this particular Friday, the stars were in alignment: we were at The Hopleaf for drinks, walked down that way to Jenni's for the Yelp Elite event and then back to get something to eat. We didn't have a reservation at Lady Gregory's, but For whatever reason, there was no waiting, so we wandered in. We were seated right away in a window seat, which was great as I am still that person who doesn't like sitting on top of others....was that way before COVID.
The Doctor and I stared with the Cheddar Artichoke Dip. It came with toasted bread. Can't say it was a favorite. For me the cheddar cheese did not work well as it masked the flavor of the artichoke. This is not something I would order again....live and learn.
For dinner I got the Drive Thru Burger with fries (double cheeseburger, caramelized onion, special sauce, greens, tomato, pickle, butter bun). I got it without the special sauce and asked for mustard instead. Let me tell you, that burger was gooooood! Man I will just let you know, when I have something that rocks my world, I be dreaming about it days after the fact (bad grammar intended!). Don't know if this is how they prepare this burger every time or if the stars were in alignment during the preparation, but it was delish!
The Doctor got the Chicken Pot Pie and I have to tell you Yelp fam, it was actually good. Most places do not, I repeat, do not season their chicken or the sauce or veggies for this dish. It is typically a bland gravy thang with dough. This was seasoned nicely, with a flakey pastry dough top instead of a pie crust topping.
Our server was just so adorable! Didn't get her name but totally will ask for her by face the next time I go there. She waited on The Doctor and some of his work buddies at an earlier event and completely remembered him, as well as from other visits. She wanted to know why I was coming in with him; explained to her that for those work events, I usually pass so the EEs can talk Electrical Engineering stuff. Because The Doctor celebrated 40 years of working at his company, our server gave us a free dessert: a warm apple pie with ice cream....think it was a special. It was good, but a little on the sweet side for me, but The Doctor loved it.
Thank you to universe for allowing me to discover Lady Gregory again...without your help, I would not have stepped foot in that place, but glad I did. Now I am going to be mad if I go there and can't get in again to get that burger. read more
