Not a great experience here. Started with the watermelon sangria which their menu says has fresh watermelon, lime juice, J Bavet brandy, and pinot grigio. I saw the bartender make it - they poured a mix from the tap, then add soda water and ice, and that was it. Not sure how the other mixed drinks are made, but that was more pouring than bartending. The drink also lacked flavor and color, and neither I nor my company tasted the liquor. The deviled eggs had a horseradish bite which should really be mentioned on the menu. I've passed this place a million times and always wanted to stop in. I finally had the opportunity to do just that recently! I left a show at the Riv - which ew, wait for my review for that one... - and Green Mill had a cover. Where to? Let's head north and hit Fat Cat! To be honest, I thought this place would be way more vibey than it was. It kind of just felt like a sports bar. But the bartenders were friendly and attentive and the drink options were a-plenty. Visited Fat Cat before a concert at the Riviera. We were sad to know that all specials are void on concert nights but were still impressed with most everything we got! Starters included the poutine which was a highlight of the visit! Be aware that the gravy is slightly unconventional but nonetheless, delicious. The pretzel sticks were good but over priced for only getting three. Our mains were splitting the crispy mac and cheese bites and the hot mess burger. The burger tasted like a fresh take on a big mac. The mac and cheese bites were handmade and tasted it! They were a must order again! Our cocktails were the hot bourbon cider which was perfect for a cold winter night. I was very excited for their take on a sparkling pear martini but was confused by the pink color and no ingredients should be pink. Staff were nice but one could tell the service wait increased as it got more crowded. Overall we enjoyed the visit as there isn't much by these theaters and would come back! read more

Just left Fat Cat, and I'm severely disappointed in the service I received. I used to frequent this restaurant all summer until I found one of the server bartenders to be problematic/rude. He has an English accent and talks to customers in a very demeaning way. Today I decided to give the restaurant another chance. My friend and I went for drinks and food. Once we got to the bar top the bartender decided to say "I haven't seen you in a long time. Since the last ruckus that you caused!" Then walked away. My friend and I instantly felt uncomfortable from that comment. The bartender came back took drink order. He came back with drinks and more comments that were rude. We no longer wanted food or anymore drinks after this. We then decided to close out. He then decides to say " Thanks for being on your best behavior it this time!" So my friend left a zero on the tip. I never made a scene any time I have been in the bar. As me and my friend are walking to the car, we notice the bartender is following us to the car. We got in car locked doors. He then said "Yall have been horrible customers since you moved from Atlanta! Don't come back!" This is the worst service I have ever had in my life. It almost felt dangerous. Like why follow us to the car. I reported events to the manager on duty. The food is always good here. The drinks are always good as well. We stopped in here after a visiting the drag show at Baton Lounge. We noticed the outside and inside were pretty packed so we wanted to join the fun. The atmosphere was nice. Good music and dark lit inside. We ordered a few traditional drinks (vodka/soda) and appetizers. Our waitress was very nice and quick to serve. It is close to our house the food is good, the bartender, Allie is great and friendly, Ruby one of the servers always has a smile on her face and is super sweet, and the kitchen staff is amazing and prepares great food. The only problems we have encountered are with one of the owners called Pete. On their website, Fat Cat specified that you could have their surcharge removed upon request. When we did, Pete got very upset and was rude to us. He later returned to apologize since he realized he was in the wrong and would be losing some regulars. Today we were told that unless we paid cash, we would be charged the surcharge. I google this and that is not legal. I will consult with my lawyers on this but what google said was the following and I quote "Surcharges are legal in Chicago but must be transparently disclose and are distinct from tips, with customers having the right to have them removed, although many diners find the practice confusing or deceptive." read more

My friend ordered a mocktail (whoo whoot to all the non alcoholics!) and poutine. Bean burger - huge asl but a smidge dry. Definitely get the spicy Mayo and maybe some mustard. Like any other vegan patty, it falls apart so quickly. Poutine- amazing (per my friend). Fulfilling and definitely great amount of gravy. Hi Cat mocktail - definitely your version of a mojito and they're not stingy with the mint. This was the first time you could taste the mint in a beverage. Maybe because there was no liquor. Service? Our waiter was quick and attentive. Granted it wasn't packed but dude handled 7 tables all spread out throughout the restaurant and the establishment is massive. His name was Walter and he did great. Came here last Friday with friends before The Revivalist concert at the Aragon. I used to live in the neighborhood and this was our go to place. It was beyond packed and while we put in our names for a table we were there for an hour and never were called. But it was so busy that it was understandable. We hung out at the very crowded bar and James took care of us. He did a great job among a lot of the other servers. But he went out of his way to make sure we were able to get our drinks and actually to split a burger with my friend. We tipped him generously and as a former bartender really appreciated how quickly the entire serving and bartender team worked to handle the large crowd. They have fabulous specials during the week. And it's always a great crowd when it's the local neighborhood people hanging out. They make an amazing Sazerac and the food is always on point. Highly recommend. read more

Fat Cat is a great place to come for drinks before a concert at Aragon or Riviera since it's just a stone throw away from both. Both times I've been on concert nights, and equally busy each visit. The space itself is large and open, with a big bar in the center of the space with booths and tables around the perimeter. Our servers have always been friendly, but it's clear they are busy and feeling a bit overwhelmed. I can definitely sympathize with as a former server at a busy college restaurant. Despite that, they've been friendly and helpful. The drinks are good, but the food is where it's lacking just a bit. It's your standard bar fare where everything tastes pretty good but nothing was super mind blowing. The pretzel is definitely my favorite menu item! It's served with a dipping cheese and Dijon mustard. The Mac and cheese bites are also good and have a nice crunch, but lacks flavor. Same goes for the plant based nuggets and Brussel sprouts. The location is definitely what keeps me coming back. Next time I'll probably just skip the food and stick to some pre-show drinks! read more

Came for restaurant week 2021 and sat outside. We were hoping to be on the side with heaters but even though we had a reservation, the hostess didn't seem to be expecting us and sat us on the cold side. Oh well, it was still a huge and very well spaced out patio. Just an FYI that they can only heat one of the sides. Our server was Amanda and she was wonderful! Checked on us constantly, gave good recommendations, and was just generally upbeat and fun. For food, the two of us had the Reuben balls and fried pickles - fried pickles were SO GOOD. Beet salad and lemony lentil soup. Chicken pot pie and southern fried chicken sandwich - chicken sammie was great, pot pie was a little under seasoned but the pastry crust was soo good. And a salted caramel brownie and caramelized pineapple upside down cake for dessert! The desserts were both AWESOME; my bf was digging through the brownie and ice cream to make sure he didn't miss any bacon bits. The star of this place is definitely the cocktails - between us two we had the old fashioned, the cold fashioned, the Hi-Hat, the Uptown Royale, and then our server brought us free mini lavender lattes to make up for slow kitchen service! I wanted to bring home a gallon of the Hi-Hat - it was like a mojito but with vodka and grapes. All in all I would absolutely make the trek to uptown again for these drinks and to try even more of the menu! read more

The food was just as bad: fries that were sad, bland dishes, felt like they gave us the worst of everything.
