I live in DC, but my friend here found this place and told me they had great reviews and used organic products, so I was excited to try it. I booked a three o'clock appointment and came straight from the airport. I was running late, but they were still so kind and willing to fit me in. Two nail techs, Tina and Thi, worked on my gel manicure at the same time, one on each hand. They were both gentle, detailed, and so easy to talk to. Phu checked me in and helped me get settled, and he was also very friendly and welcoming. The whole team made the visit relaxing and enjoyable. The salon was clean, the service was great, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality. I visited Lacquer Nail bar because I could walk over in 5 minutes or so. My problem is I had to repeatedly ask the nail tech to not go back and forth over my natural nail bed with the drill, but she ignored me. She kept going back and forth like she was trying to remove my cuticles with the drill. I kept those nails for 2 weeks and had them properly removed. My nails are so damaged on 3 or 4 fingers because Lacquer Bar Nail tech repeatedly went back and forth with her drill. My fingers hurt and the finger nails have been separated into two parts in a crescent shape. It's taking some time to grow and it's been a couple of months since. My fingernails snag everything constantly. They catch on to my clothes, towels, my hair and everything. I think what they did is horrible and negligent. So disappointed in not only the experience here but also the quality. I chose three different dip colors that all were unavailable- they need to manage their color inventory better. My nail tech was visibly annoyed that the colors I chose were not available and I had to keep picking new ones - not my fault. Then the pricing - I've never been charged to take off dip polish if I was getting dip polish put back on, but they do that and then my dip cracked in a week! Went with my gf to get Mani and Pedi. I am visiting from out of town and seemed like a fun Saturday afternoon activity. The Salon itself is huge. Lots of comfy seating and things appear clean and in order. Staff are friendly. We didn't make rsvp but we were attended to promptly. I got Mani and pedi. Someone was doing my feet while another was doing my sns. I have had SNS done many times before in my home State and they general last 4 to 5 weeks. They actually last longer but I remove them when my nails have grown too much. This is literally the worst...I mean worst SNS I have yet to experience. The SNS here literally in day 2 starting looking crazy. The base of almost all of them had this look like the are starting to lift off. Day 3, I saw a clear crack right thru one of my nails. Very disappointed. My pedicure was good because it was just a basic paint and he did a good job. But the lady who did my SNS... No Bueno. Horrible Job. The manicurists were also very friendly and did a very good job. We did the "Ultimate" pedicure (This pedicure includes the cuticle treatment, the four step system, and the hot stone massage. This pedicure is topped off with a choice of either paraffin (hot wax) treatment or a collagen (cooling gel) foot mask. Both help lock in moisture and leave the foot hydrated and smooth.). I arrived without an appointment on a Thursday night but was greeted and seated right away. As of today, 11/11/2011, masks are still required. Heck yeah! The selection of nail polish was a-okay, less than what I am used to, but not having to compare a few shades of a certain color is time-saving. On to the comfort: massage chair is a nice touch. My pedi was on-point. The deluxe option left my skin smooth like a bb. Mani was... tough. The lady was forceful. It hurt at some point as she used all her might to scrape the polish off of the cuticles. I don't think the technique was normal, but I didn't want to make a peep. I had such a delightful experience at Lacquer Nail Bar today. When I called to make an appointment on short notice (broken nail and unexpected snafu with another salon, ARRRGGGHH!) they graciously accommodated me. Then, when I arrived the owner consulted with me and my nail tech extensively about whether I should choose gel x nails or SNS or something else. I came in asking for gel x and ended up getting that, but learned a lot about powder. I appreciated the education. My nail tech Cindy was really patient when it took several rounds of soak and file to get the Japanese gel art I came in wearing to come completely off. They also did not charge me for this extra time, but I would have been fine if they had. I think that would have been fair. Cindy was friendly and very meticulous. She did a beautiful job and I'm really happy with how my nails turned out. If I were local I would be a regular but alas I live elsewhere. Further the decor is cheery and everything is immaculate. Well, I used to come here regularly but the woman (Kim) who always did my nails perfectly left to open her own salon too far away for me. Yes, she was that good and she deserves her own salon so I'm happy for her. So I had to roll the dice with a new person and sadly, I'll never come back because of it. I got someone named Cici who was a complete b**ch. Kept throwing my hands in the air saying "relax". Yes, literally throwing them up by tugging on them. Who does that? It was so rude. I've had my nails done for years all over the place and never had anyone do that. My husband came by and saw her do that and decided not to get his manicure afterward. Then near the end of the service, she says curtly "they look beautiful" and walks off without doing the forearm cream or the cuticle oil even though I had requested the manicure which costs more. Just walked away. it was weird and I wonder if she was about to quit or something. So I got up to leave and the guy working the front says "you're not done yet". But she had left so he completed the manicure. The whole experience was weird and, on top of that, with no warning whatsoever after having gone there for years, they charged me $10 to remove my prior dip AND $5 to "shape the nails". They were not a special shape but he said "only round and square are free". OK whatever mine were uh...oval...nothing new or unique. Same I've always gotten. It was like they were fabricating "extras" to get more money. They've lost me for life. I'm guessing they're now overcharging because the place was empty and maybe they're operating at a loss and on the verge of closing? I don't know but whatever it was, they should have not made loyal customers into the victims of whatever is going on. read more

Waste of time & money. Don't be fooled by the reasonable prices or shiny pictures at this "nail bar." I booked two pedicures online through their website. Red flag #1 should've been that their system made me book back-to-back appointments instead of two appointments together at the same time for two different guests. I'm also accustomed to being able to select "any female employee" when I book salon services online, and that was not an option here. My husband picked their most luxurious pedicure, the laquer pedi, and I called the morning of the appointments to confirm that we would be receiving our pedis together at the same time. I was told yes. When we arrived (early) for our appointment and checked in, the system still showed our appts. as back-to-back instead of together. I asked again, we will be receiving service at the same time and the staff said yes. Place was not busy, tons of empty chairs. I even noticed they had staff doubled up on some customers who were receiving a mani & pedi at the same time. Weird, but ok. A young man came and told us they were ready and took us to our chairs. I advised him my husband would like a female technician and he said ok. This employee was the only male employee we saw in the business, so it shouldn't have been an issue finding a female tech for my husband. Red flag #2- the water in the pedi bowls was cold, not even warm. We picked our pedi scent and thought they would ask us about the water temperature, but they never did. Thats on us too that we didn't speak up and ask for hotter water. Red flag #3- We were purchasing pedis that were $95 each & supposed to last 90 minutes and we were never offered any beverages, not even water. The young man proceeded to dump the bath salts in both of our pedi bowls. Then he started on my pedi. Red flag #4- My husband didn't have a technician yet. Twenty minutes later, my husband still didn't have a technician, despite multiple employees walking around us and the space. He was livid and was about to get up and walk out. Finally, a female employee showed up for him. But it was too little, too late. He told both employees we wanted to downgrade our pedis to the lowest level possible so we could get out of there. He asked to make both the "spa pedicure for $33, done in 30 minutes. My pedi tech told us that because of the scented packets that had already been used in our bowl, the lowest we could downgrade was to an "organic" pedi. We were unhappy and disappointed but said ok. That dropped us down to a $49 pedi that according to their website was supposed to last 45 minutes. My husband timed his pedi and it lasted a total of 26 minutes. His tech did trim & shape his nails and cuticles, but instead of scrubbing, she lightly stroked the scrubber on the bottom of his foot maybe twice. When it came to the masque, lotion & massage, he was only rubbed maybe to mid-calf, nowhere near his knee. HIs tech clearly didn't care and knew there'd be no repercussions. After we left, my husband said the area around his chair was dirty and nasty, with loose spilled powder around it. And whatever they used on our legs made mine burn and tingle in spots (& I had not just shaved my legs that morning or night before). Products looked cheap and questionable. We didn't want to cause a scene and just wanted to leave as fast as we could. FYI- This was not our first pedicure ever, and not even our first pedi away from our hometown. We've had pedicures in many other States and even internationally. My husband and I regularly get pedis every 4-6 weeks. My manicurist Zack was delightful. He was so nice. He automatically did three coats on my nails because I had a light pink color and glitter. I usually have to ask to get three coats but he did it without me having to ask. He filed my nails with such patience and skill. It was the most relaxing nail salon visit I've ever had and I've been getting my nails professionally done for over a decade. And the hostess/secretary at the front desk was also nice. The location was really difficult to find because construction blocks the view of the steps and elevator, but once you arrive it's beautiful. On the way down, I told the lady in the elevator that I'd probably never come back because it was frustrating to find. But I'll definitely be back. They tried to explain that they didn't have a color to match "neutral" for my fill so, I either had to get a whole new set or paint gel over the acrylic. Fine. Got a new set. My nails are extra crooked, some are square shaped while others have rounded corners, some are thicker on one half of the nail then the other, the white in the French is not evenly painted (you can see splotches), there are a ton of bumps in the gel and the woman painting my gel did six coats of gel because some nails were not painting evenly as the gel was being applied. This has never happened in my experience of getting acrylics for almost four years. This place is great if you're just wanting polish. I don't think I would recommend for anything requiring advance nail tech skill or knowledge. read more

Initially coming here I loved it so I continued to come back. Until this last time when I came in to fix a nail break. I had just gotten it a fill in here the week before and one of my nails cracked. I didn't think it was for any particular reason but when I came in the nail tech who fixed it basically shamed me for "not being careful enough" and telling me my nails were "too long". I felt like it was a little micro-aggressive but I just sat uncomfortably as she pulled the fresh acrylic off my finger. At the end I ended up with a crooked nail that was too think and the incorrect shape. Normally I wouldn't wait until afterwards to express discomfort in a situation but I didn't feel it would be beneficial. I didn't want to continue to sit and continue to feel uncomfortable so I will be getting the shape corrected elsewhere. I'll just know for next time. read more

Felt a little rushed in picking a color. there were like 100 different reds to choose from but I ended up with black because they weren't interested in waiting for me to decide. Well....Ill just say that whats started out as a not so great....well a crappy experience changed with a complete 360 degree turn around. Without going into detail of the poor service and basically incomplete job by one individual, I'll address the experience with the manager. I was silently unhappy about the experience and did not make a huge fuss I paid and thought to myself I'd never return and as I headed back to ait and wait for my friend to finish the manager approached me. She spoke to me about the issue... Allow me to make a long story short (which is not my forte') I was told by the initial tech the polish was not going to last over an hour, the only way it would last was if I got sns. I said no, she insisted and said "I'm telling you because people get this and it comes off in an hour it's not going to last." NOTHING to misunderstand about that clear statement. So I said your telling me your utilizing polish that is known to be poor quality? Because I don't do heavy manual labor, im not going to be doin much with my hands so a good application this dried should be ok for me. After further insistence I opted out of getting polished all together from sheer annoyance and being told it wasn't going to last. (Yet the same bottle was passed over to my friend for her Pedicure who was with no disclaimer about the polish lasting power... she also was getting more services done than I was I brought it up because I was completely baffled how it would last thru sneakers, possible working out, just at all.... but regarding my declining it 1. Time didn't really permit 2. Several nails broke that day meaning I'd need to get 2 tips added for it to truly look uniform ( 1 broke past the nailbed) 3. I didn't want sns I stopped getting it a year ago and I just didn't want it. I tried...but like I said short stories? Not my thing. Anyway Fast forward, the manager not only came over with money in hand and insisted on getting me the polish that I wanted. It was regular polish and as we know it doesn't have the same 2 -3week staying power as sns. I was fine with that.... Not only did the manager apologize profusely, she also painted my nails , of which prior to she also realized the actual manicure I came in for was also poorly executed...cuticles and shape was....NOT GOOD. So she corrected both..taking her time and care. And also stated a good surface makes for a good foundation for the polish... read that part again.... My nails (even the 2 broken ones were shaped nicely, polish applied , a VERY pleasant conversation was had. There was no heavy insistence to justify the bad experience the other tech provided..Which we know often times it's what happens, no you didn't hear that correctly, that's not what they meant , it must be a misunderstanding.... Initially yes I was told It was a misunderstanding, but once I repeated verbatim what was said....it was crystal clear there was no misunderstanding. I could go further in detail how the charismatic demeanor of the manager pretty much made me forget about everything else. She (Tubi) went ABOVE AND BEYOND to provide Phenomenal customer service. She is not a tech,, she is the manager which also meant alot, she took complete ownership of the situation. She didn't pass me off to someone else to fix. She handled it. This may not have started out as a great experience and in my head I had already written them off as a place to never return to ....But I will definitely return. One thing I will say is especially after being a beauty professional for over 15+years sometimes clients may not get the best cut,color,polish ect and still return... BUT sometimes its just not even about that...the EXPERIENCE makes them return. Ive witness countless "questionable" looks walk out the salon but also watched those same individuals walk back in for another appointment. The level of customer service I received there has not been experienced in quite some time so I definitely recommend it. It was not just about the money to them, it was definitely about customer satisfaction. And its the next day and my polish didn't come off. I did however fumble with my keys in the rain and caused a slight blemish. But otherwise still intact and I'm satisfied. And yes this may be my longest review ever ...
