After searching for a nail salon within my community that I could frequent, I stumbled upon Poochiez. I did a little research and discovered that Poochie is a well-known Nail Tech that has since retired but opened her own shop and uses her own products. I made an appointment for my birthday and was excited to try them out! The Good: my nail tech was really good! I loved how she shaped my nails and I was very happy with how they turned out. I also received a pedicure which, technique-wise, for the most part was done really well. The polish application was flawless and the massage was very thorough, however The bad: I didn't love how my toenails were shaped for my pedicure... but it was one of those things that will grow out and, once it's done, there's really not too much you can do to fix it. Making an appointment here is time consuming. You can only schedule an appointment by calling the shop and, if they answe, someone will check the schedule book and then give you the number to the nail tech who has an opening. That nail tech will then have to personally make an appointment with you over the phone or via text. This was entirely too time-consuming for my taste. Also, they're always booked so you need to make sure you stay on top of when you might need to fill, and keep your appointment. Once you've paid your deposit, which could also come with a fee depending on what program they're using, the services are cash only once you get to the shop. A lot of people don't carry cash anymore so having to go out of your way to get some could be an inconvenience for some. The "meh": The last thing, although not necessarily bad, is that the shop has been there for a few years and it's practically empty. Very little decor if any, no personal touches just a couple of chairs a couple of nail stations and a tablet where they play various shows. Again if you're just going strictly on technique the nail techs do a great job! But I just really don't think this is the shop for me based on the aforementioned points. I prefer a little ambiance and a simpler booking/payment system. read more

I have been coming here to Ray (@NailsbyRayBaby) to get my nails done for two years. I make my appointments every two weeks and come to see whats the latest nail trends. That's one of my favorite things about coming here is that the staff is always learning new techniques and they are up on all the hottest trends for your nails. I absolutely love my nail tech because she puts so much care into my nails from the acrylic overlay to shaping my nail the right way. The acrylic is never to thick and bulky and she buffs my nails to perfection! I also love that I can give her some ideas about what I want for the week and she can work her magic and come up with a creative design that fits my personality. My favorite part is the laying down of the bling. She has some sort of gift when it comes to placing stones so that they pop with your Nail Color! She knows how all the stones will reflect off one another and that gives my nails the extra pop. Worried about stones falling off? It just doesn't happen. She makes sure they are there to stay. And even better there are tons of gel colors to choose from that also last. Anyway...I'm a loyal customer and I recommebd you come here too. All the nail techs are super talented! read more

Went to Poochiez Pawz Nail Studio today with this picture and this is how my nails came out... I told the girl that I wasnt satisfied and she told me to leave aggressively, and then called the cops on me saying I refused to pay. Its really sad when you do everything you can to support black businesses, you go in there trying to keep your coin in the community but you literally get met with hostility, unprofessionalism and low quality work. She said she "knew I wasnt going to pay" when I walked through the door, even after i changed my original design to something simple when she attempted my first choice and was unable to execute it. I tried to give her a chance, yall forreal. All she did was yell and lie, along with another nail tech there. Ive never been so appalled in my life by service ANYWHERE. EVER. If you can't execute the work properly, just say so. I would have been more than happy to find something she could do, or take my business elsewhere. read more

I ended up making an appointment with Robbie after finding her on Instagram. Since there is a cash only policy, I went in first and asked how much my nails would be so that I got the correct amount (I hardly carry cash on me). I was told it would be 45 total, not including my deposit of 20 bucks - which would be 25. Pulled out 60 ( was getting my toes done as well). Everything was great, nails were done beautifully. She then said my total for her was 55. Well..OK. I assumed she made a mistake with the calculation and went on over to get my toes done. Once i was all finished..i paid the lady for my toes 30 bucks (25 plus tip) then proceeded to pay Robbie the same. She said again it was 55. I said I did not take out enough to cover that amount - as i was initially told my nails were 45. I have no idea where the additonal 10 came from all of a sudden. Please note that I did not deviate from the original design i asked for in any way. I then told her I could pay the difference by credit card if possible. She told me she is not running my card for just 5 dollars (she didn't realize the extra 5 was a tip). LOL ok! Of course after this exchange, that nice chipper demeanor was out the window. I was beyond upset and ended up leaving with wet nails. I am not cheap and I pay for all my services with no problem, however, this little stunt left me confused. Love to support my black owned salons, but I will not be back. If you are looking for an upscale spa like experience, this is not the place. If you want bangin designs and don't care about the service or surroundings, then this is your spot. read more

I was referred to Poochiez Pawz by my loctician when I noticed her nail art and was intrigued. Good thing it's located in the same area where I work. Second it's a small local business. Robbie was my nail technician and did a great job with my gel manicure. She took her time and was very detailed. The biggest selling point for me to check this place out were the nail designs. There were so many designs I couldn't decide what I wanted to be done. I looked through here nail design pictures on her Instagram and picked two painted designs, one with rhinestones. Love my nails. There's only two downsides, one it's appointment only and the other there is a $20 deposit required. I don't mind because I understand why the $20 deposit is required to secure the appointment so no complaints. I will be back. read more

My nail tech is Pinky and she is great. For one I am conservative when it comes to nails since I work in corporate America and she makes sure my nails are picture perfect. She can do the wild stuff too like 3d, stones, foil (yes foil), round shapes, square, almond and coffin. I know coffin sounds morbid but they work great if you type a lot. She is by appointment only and what I like is that she is usually finishing up another customer when I arrive and the longest I have ever had to wait was 10 minutes and then she gets me in and out. Not necessarily an "upscale" salon. But its definitely a clean and regular looking salon. I went for a gel manicure and a pedicure. I was late comong from work and forfeited my deposit. Obviously, that policy I am not a fan of. But its my own fault because I thought I made my appointment at 6pm but it was at 5:30. My nail tech had already left for the day considering I was 30 minutes late. They called her and I told her I messed up my appointment time. She actually came back with no problem and did my service! I appreciated that more than she knows because I had an event that evening. Overall, my services turned out great. Just be on time! Lol I understand why the policy is in place and it makes complete sense. She took a little long on my mani/pedi but my nails are very short and takes some extra care. My gel polish from my gel manicure began to peel the day of. The rest of the polish was gone within 4 days. Never have I witnessed anything like that so it's gonna be a NO for me dawg! I went to the Salon yesterday for the first time and I loved my experience. Everyone was extremely nice and friendly. Everyone speaks when you walk in and made me feel comfortable. All of the technicians are talented. My appointment was with Ray and she out did herself. Saying that I love my nails would be a complete understatement. I love the appointment policy and did not have to wait for my services. I will most definitely be returning. The only thing missing is someone that does eyebrows and eyelashes and I would never have to go anywhere else. I cant wait until my next appointment.
